I was born in a log cabin in Illinois and used to write by candlelight with a piece of chalk on a shovel. Oh, wait a minute. That was Abraham Lincoln.
Actually, Iām a children's book author. Iāve written more than 170 books for kids from kindergarten up to middle school.
For the little ones, I write picture books like "Rappy the Raptor," about a rapping raptor named Rappy, who raps.
For beginning readers, I write "My Weird School," about some kids who go to a school in which all the grownups are crazy. Thirty-one million copies have been sold. I also write āWait! WHAT?ā a series of biographies that focus on the unusual aspects of people like Albert Einstein, Amelia Earhart, Muhammad Ali, and Teddy Roosevelt.
For middle-graders, I write the baseball card adventure series, about a boy who has the power to travel through time using a baseball card like a time machine. He goes on adventures with players like Babe Ruth, Jackie Robinson, Willie Mays, and others.
For advanced readers, I write "The Genius Files," "Flashback Four,ā āHoudini and Meā and others.

Monday, august 27, 2012, chapter 5 / january, 14 comments:.
Judy changed because she used to do her homework and now she uses Belch to do her homework. The evidence is she is never thought about doing her homework the old way and was getting lazy. She wanted it to be easy by using Belch. She was getting addicted to the homework machine like her mom was to cigarettes.Judy was concerned about Snick's dad gong to war. Snick was enjoying playing chess by email overseas with his dad. He used to play in person. Judy used to do homework with her friend Jessica Martin and now she does it with Brenton, Snick, and Kelsey.Jessica got mad because they used to do their work together.
Through that chapter I thought about Judy. I'm thinking in my head that she's getting lazy by using Belch, like most of the D Squad.
Yes but then another reason is that Snik'sdad was sent over seas so Sam is not very happy.
Nick, you are right. Judy doesn't do her homework with pencil an paper she just slips it through Belch and then her homework is complete.
First Snik is changing because he is bonding with Brenton and the others in the D squad.Next Judy was finally beginning to bond with Kelsey when the others searched the school for Judy and when they left she was mad that they left her because she thinks there all friends.Brenton bonded with snik when snik was asking help for his next move against his dad in chess Brenton and the class helped him and he decided he wold move his castle. And these are the many ways the D squad bonded.
Sam is changing because his dad wa sent somewhere in the desert. Ronnie is trying to find out a bit more of what the d squad is doing. Judy can not feel comfortable with her best friend. Kelsey can not come over to her friend's house to listen to a CD because she has to go over to Brenton's house to do her homework on Belch. Brenton believes that chess is the answer instead of war. He used to think that war was the answer.
Iagree with you because he is really sad about his dad going over seas
I also believe that chess is the answer to war, so nobody gets killed.
The character I see changing this chapter is Snik. Mrs. Rasmussen was the first person to notice a change. She noticed that Snik didn't crack any jokes or make fun of other kids. Judy noticed that Snik was all Gung-ho G.I Joe about his dad being sent overseas which he wasn't before. I also realized that Snik started to play a game of chess with his dad which he didn't want to before.
I think it is cool that Sam is playing a game of chess with his dad even though he is overseas because that shows how much he truly loves his dad.
The teacher was the first to notice a change. She noticed that the chess changed the mood of sam. She was carfle about not to tell sam about chess. Then sam would stop playing. I think it was a good idea to not tell sam because then sam would stop playing chess.
Snick is changing because he isn't as fun and playful as he was before because his dad went out in war to fight for the U.S.A in the middle of some random desert. At least he can play chess with his dad by e-mail. Brenton is also noticing how great Snick is becoming at chess. The rest of the d-squad is being a little sweeter to Snick so he isn't so sad. The d-squad is starting to bond with each other because they re starting to have feelings for one another.
I see that Judy is changing because before she was jelious of Brenton but now she has a crush. It's obvious evidence that she likes him because Brenton was the only one that got a valentines on valintine day. I think we all knew it was coming a smart boy with a smart girl, the writer is trying to spice up the story with some romance. I think it definetly makes it more interresting with Brenton not being interested. I mean, a good story doesn't just say once upon a time, happily ever after it has to hook the readers to find out what happens next. If it didn't have some wondering for the readers it wouldn't sell at all.
I think that the character that is changing the most is Snik. HE is changing the most because his father went overseas and he is not so happy about is ,but he does know that it is to protect the country ,so in one way he is happy , but in another he is very sad.

Starting with a stern statement from the Grand Canyon, Arizona Police Chief Rebecca Fish, meet four fifth graders in big trouble. There's long-haired, rebellious, cool guy Sam Dawkins; fun-loving, unacademic, pink-haired Kelsey Donnelly, African American grind Judy Douglas, and friendless genius Brenton Damagatchi. The whole thing starts because Sam is anti-homework, especially the daily fill in-the-blank worksheets his first-year teacher Miss Rasmussen hands out. Sam is skeptical when Brenton claims he has programmed his computer to search the web and do all his homework each day, but itās true. Soon the four seatmates are spending every afternoon in Brentonās bedroom, printing out their daily assignments on the computer they nickname Belch. It canāt do any harm, right? The chronology and confession of their ill-fated escapade is related entirely through a series of transcripts, narrated by the four contrite kids, their parents, classmates, and Miss Rasmussen.
There are many interesting threads explored in this nimble story: keeping secrets, making friends, being popular, the morality of taking the easy way out, first crushes, the meaning of war, and even the loss of a parent. The setting of the Grand Canyon and sub-themes about playing chess, starting fads, and using a catapult will get kids looking up supporting information in books and on the Internet. Questions readers can think about as they read include: Which of the four main characters is most like or unlike you and why? Which one would or would not be your friend and why?

Snik is cocky and outspoken. He prides himself on being a quick and accurate judge of character, pigeonholing his peers into groups of "clueless dweebs, pre-jock idiots, loses, brown-noses, and bullies" (8). Snik hates homework, and rather than take it seriously, he writes sassy, sarcastic answers that hint at his latent intelligence.
