50 Creative Ideas For Your Next PowerPoint Night

presentation night meaning

TikTok is the newest, hippest (just ask any twenty-something year old) social media platform and arguably the biggest thing since Instagram’s launch in 2010. The platform boasts over 1 billion users and has been downloaded an upwards of 200 million times in the United States alone. You can find all sorts of videos on TikTok from food recipes and fashion, to presentation tips. Its diverse, entertaining, short-form content is what makes the app so favorable across many different age groups and demographics.

Many trends and recommendations have come to light because of the ever-popular social media app like dances, sounds, and meals. But another TikTok trend that has taken millennials and Gen Z by storm is PowerPoint nights. PowerPoint nights became especially popular in 2020 during the pandemic when friends and family were looking for ways to connect with one another via technology. Essentially, friends create presentation decks about cheeky topics (unrelated to work or school) and present them to each other either in-person or through video calls. Oftentimes served with plenty of snacks and beverages, PowerPoint nights have become a new Friday night “thing” to do. A trend we can get behind.

And of course, we’re thrilled that it put presentations on the map for something fun other than board meetings and thesis assignments.

So we’re tapping in. Here are 50 creative ideas for your next PowerPoint night. Extra points if you use Beautiful.ai and tag us on TikTok.

PowerPoint Parties Are the Party Trend You Have to Try—Here's How to Host One

Try these clever PowerPoint party hosting tips and ideas for a fun night.

Lauren is a former editor at Real Simple and currently serves as a senior digital editor for Better Homes & Gardens.

presentation night meaning

All get-togethers are great, but PowerPoint parties have become popular for livening up in-person and virtual parties. PowerPoint nights give everyone something to contribute to the party's success (beyond a hostess gift ). And they're great for connecting with far-flung friends or family, as you can easily host it over Zoom or video chat.

The cool thing: All you need is a computer, a screen, and your friends' creativity to host a PowerPoint night that'll leave everyone laughing (and likely, looking to host their own PowerPoint party in the not-so-distant future). If you're ready to jump on the PowerPoint party trend, here's everything you need to know to host one of your own, plus plenty of ideas for PowerPoint presentations that will make you the hit of any party you attend.

What Is a PowerPoint Party?

A PowerPoint party takes the meeting and school presentation staple—the Microsoft PowerPoint presentation or slideshow—and makes it fun, playful, and party-appropriate. PowerPoint party attendees craft and give presentations on topics of their choice. Drinking, themed costumes , Q&As, and other fun add-ons may also be included.

A PowerPoint party can also be done with Google Slides, Keynote (the presentation software from Apple available on iOS devices), or any other presentation tool—Microsoft PowerPoint is not required. PowerPoint parties are best kept to a small group of people—it's not an activity for a crowded rager—and can be enjoyed virtually or in person.

How to Host a PowerPoint Party

To plan and host a PowerPoint party, first, gather a select group of people you think will enjoy the party. PowerPoint parties aren't for everyone or every occasion—it's something best left for smaller groups of adults, young adults, and teens. If you want to include younger kids, consider pairing them with an adult or an older child with experience giving presentations; if you want to have larger groups, consider dividing them into teams to create presentations.

When you invite people, explain the expectations of the party. What's the time limit or slide limit for each presentation? What's the dress code? Is the PowerPoint party themed? If you're hosting the party virtually , send around the link to join the video call early and avoid technical difficulties. You can allow everyone to share their screen when presenting, or you can collect all the presentations and serve as the presenter.

Don't load up your slides with text. Use your slideshow for images, graphs, and keywords or phrases that help make your point. When presenting, don't just read what's on the screen; try to use notecards to make your argument. To ensure you rule at the PowerPoint party, take your presentation for a spin or two to fine-tune what you want to say.

PowerPoint Night Hosting Tips

If you're attending a PowerPoint party, your presentation can be whatever you want it to be. (Most PowerPoint parties should be goofy—in the topic or presentation.) Use PowerPoint, Google Slides, or Keynote to fill your slideshow with images, charts, graphs, quotes, gifs, videos, and whatever else makes your point, and have fun with it. And don't be afraid to use all those weird effects that the apps offer that you never get to use in everyday work life. (Why not make that slide spin off into the ether?) Here are some other fun rules to incorporate.

Turn It Into a Drinking Game

Have presenters take a sip of their drink every time they say "um" or another filler word, or ask them to finish their drink in its entirety if their presentation extends beyond the allotted time. (Always drink responsibly, of course.) You could even pick an uncommon word or phrase—like "pink umbrella," for example—and if anyone works it organically into their presentation, the whole party has to drink.

If you're worried about people having the same topic, ask that everyone submit their topics to you ahead of time to avoid any duplicates.

Create a Dress Code

Take the party up a notch by enforcing a themed dress code. If everyone is presenting about historical figures, have them dress up like their chosen figure. You could also ask everyone to wear business attire or dress entirely in one color.

Consider Assigning Topics

While it's fun to let them use their imagination and share a wide array of presentations at your PowerPoint night, assigning a topic theme or a specific topic can give your party more structure and challenge your guests a little, too. They'll have to work up a passion for their given topic, and you can laugh at their efforts to make their presentations entertaining. (Bonus points if you choose extremely obscure topics, like how staples are made or where sand comes from.)

Award Prizes

To get everyone invested in your PowerPoint party, make it competitive. Find a great prize and create a scoring sheet with points for the quality of the presentation, the strength of the argument, choice of images, outfit choice, adherence to the time limit, and whatever other details you think are important. Have everyone score their fellow presenters (all in jest) after their presentation. The winner at the end gets the prize.

There isn't just a single Oscar awarded, is there? Consider offering prizes in an array of categories at your PowerPoint party— the wildest use of PowerPoint effects, most dedicated presenter, best costume, etc.

Share Presentations

Once your PowerPoint party is over, consider sending out the various presentations (with permission, of course) to everyone on the guest list. Attendees can relive their favorite moments and those who attended virtually can better see the fun. Who knows? Maybe they'll be inspired to host their own PowerPoint get-together.

30 PowerPoint Party Theme Ideas

Ready to host your very own themed PowerPoint party? While the Drink, Talk, Learn (DTL) PowerPoint party—in which everyone chooses a topic they're passionate about, with no themes or restrictions—is a classic option, if you want to choose a party theme , check out some clever PowerPoint night ideas below.

  • Drunk history: Presenters choose a historical figure or event and present about it. Have everyone dress like their figure or era, and encourage people to have a drink or two before their presentation to make it really interesting.
  • The best [whatever] of all time: Every presenter picks a movie, TV show, video game, board game, fictional character, food, city, etc., and everyone makes the case that their pick is the best one of all time. Keep topic selections within the same genre to spark a little friendly competition.
  • Conspiracy theories: Have everyone select a conspiracy theory and present it to convince everyone that it could indeed be true.
  • Assigning characters: All presenters pick a category—it could be dogs, foods, characters in a movie, TV show, or book, whatever—and explain who everyone would be in each group. (This is best done within a close-knit group of friends.) Presenters could explain which Harry Potter or The Office character everyone might be or which type of pasta noodle they'd be. The opportunities are endless.
  • Who survives? Rate your friends on their survival skills in several dangerous events, such as The Hunger Games, a slasher movie, or a zombie apocalypse. Be sure to share how each pal at the PowerPoint party meets their bitter end and who will survive the longest (and how).
  • Over/underrated: Each guest shares their hot take on something overrated or underrated—and shares their reasoning behind it. It can be something from pop culture, foods, a beauty product, a fashion trend, or even a hobby.
  • Cast the movie of your life: Choose who would lay your parents, your friends, your mate—and you! (Be sure to assign celebs for each of the attendees that you know, of course.)
  • Biggest regrets: Reveal it all, from highlights gone wrong to spring break shenanigans to major parenting fails.
  • Dream pets: Rank dog breeds, highlight why lizards reign supreme, or go ahead and list the magical pets you'd love to have (hello, unicorns!).
  • How-to hacks: Share your skills! Take your friends step by step through concocting your signature cocktail , getting killer deals on travel, or crafting cool nail art .
  • The perfect undercover names: Give every party member a secret agent moniker and highlight their spy-worthy skills, whether it's their next-level driving or their ability to keep a (top) secret.
  • When a favorite show jumped the shark: Narrow it down to the key moment that the show in question started its decline in quality—and make your case for it.
  • Crystal ball prognostication: Imagine where you and your friends will be in five, 10, or 20 years from now. (The funnier your predictions, the better!)
  • Worst gift ever: Chronicle the weirdest gifts you (or people you know) received—and why they're bad. Don't forget to include photos!
  • Dream wedding: Even if you're already paired off, pop in what you'd want to do to celebrate your wedding now if money was no object.
  • Bucket lists: A PowerPoint party is the perfect opportunity to see which wish list items you share with your friends—and start making plans to cross them off together.
  • Guilty pleasures: Share your favorite guilty pleasure(s), and lay out the argument why others should indulge as well.
  • Me in the multiverse: Take a cue from Everything Everywhere All at Once and imagine what your alter egos are doing in alternate realities.
  • Junk drawer archaeology: Dive into the depths of your junk drawer and share the weirdest/smartest/oldest finds.
  • Confessions: It's time to come clean on sins from your past or present and plead your case for why it had to be done.
  • Friends trivia: No, we're not talking about what the mail label says on Chandler Bing's TV Guide (though it's Chanandler Bong, if you need it for your next trivia night). Instead, quiz other guests to see how much they remember about each other.
  • Word to the wise: Keep your friends from learning the hard way by sharing a life lesson you've learned.
  • Phobias: Share your biggest (and ideally, weirdest) fears and why you're not a fan.
  • Two truths and a lie: Turn the classic party game into a PowerPoint party presentation—and see who knows you best.
  • DIY fails: Share the tales (and ideally, photos!) of projects you envisioned and how they went wrong.
  • Fandom vs. fandom : Presenters can pick their favorite fandom to discuss and (playfully) pit against other fandoms. For example, someone can bring up the classic Star Wars vs. Star Trek debate.
  • Awkward photos : We all have those not-so-photogenic moments in our lives. Whether it's an awkward family photo, an embarrassing school photo, or some other cringe-inducing memory, it's time to share with everyone.
  • Lottery dream : Share what you would do if you were to hit the jackpot and win millions in the lottery. The more lavish and outrageous your expenses, the more fun for the party.
  • Pet peeves : Whether it's the use of the Oxford comma or honking while driving, get your grievances out and tell everyone why your pet peeves should be banished.
  • Celebrity crushes : Go ahead and ask everyone to talk about their ultimate celebrity crush—past and present. They can gush about why this person is their favorite, share some eye candy, and even say what they would do if they ever met their crush in person.

Preparing for PowerPoint Night

When planning a PowerPoint night, carefully select a captivating theme, tailor content to your audience, and mindfully determine the date, time and location to create an engaging event.

Selecting a theme for PowerPoint Night

Planning a PowerPoint Night for family, friends, or college friends? Selecting a theme is essential. A good theme provides structure and coherence, making presentations engaging and memorable. It’s important to align the theme with the interests and passions of the participants, and the following steps can guide you:

  • Brainstorm Potential Themes: Consider the event’s purpose. Themes could be entrepreneurship for business ideas, personal development, or global issues for educational events.
  • Evaluate Each Theme: Assess relevance, uniqueness, and ability to captivate. Make sure themes align with presenters’ expertise and passions.
  • Seek Input from Participants: Conduct a survey or ask potential participants to ensure the theme resonates with the audience.
  • Remember the Importance of the Theme: A well-chosen theme sets the tone, helps create a cohesive experience, and ensures that presentations flow seamlessly, contributing to the overall message.

Determining the target audience and adjusting the content accordingly

Creating a captivating presentation requires a deep understanding of your audience, whether they are family, friends, college friends, or even professionals. Tailoring your content to their interests and expectations is key to engagement. Follow this advices to ensure your content resonates with your viewers:

  • Identify Your Audience: Determine if they are students, professionals, or community members to make content relatable.
  • Align with Audience’s Interests: Focus on areas of expertise and interest for content relevance.
  • Understand Objectives: Consider whether the audience seeks inspiration, education, or entertainment, and tailor accordingly.
  • Research for Insights: Utilize surveys, interviews, or previous events to gain insights into audience preferences.
  • Engage with Multimedia: Incorporate visual aids, storytelling, and interactive elements such as videos or infographics to make your message more compelling.

Setting a date, time, and location for the event

Success requires careful planning and attention to scheduling and logistics. Here’s a 4 thing to take into account to make sure you get the essentials right:

  • Selecting the Date: Choose a date that doesn’t clash with major events or holidays to ensure maximum attendance.
  • Choosing the Time: If it’s an after-work event, select a convenient time. For weekend events, consider diverse schedules.
  • Location Matters: Select an accessible venue, considering factors like parking, public transport, and ambiance. A theme-aligned venue can further enhance the experience.
  • Guide Your Attendees: Offer clear directions to the venue, including details about parking and public transport, to make the journey smooth for your guests.

Tips for a Memorable PowerPoint Night

Gather your loved ones for a fun-filled PowerPoint Night, blending creativity with shared memories and laughter. Here’s how to make it unforgettable.

  • Choose Fun and Engaging Topics: Begin with a splash! Encourage participants to choose light-hearted, fun topics that everyone can relate to. Think “10 Reasons Why Cats Rule the World” or “Weird Facts About Our Family.”
  • Add Interactive Elements: Make your presentations more than just slides. Incorporate quizzes or polls. For instance, “Guess the Baby Photo” or “Which Family Recipe is This?” can evoke bouts of laughter and surprise.
  • Engage Your Audience: A presentation comes to life when the presenter interacts with their audience. Encourage participants to ask questions, share anecdotes, or even include mini-games in between slides. It’s not just about presenting; it’s about connecting!
  • Keep It Short and Sweet: While it’s tempting to delve deep into a topic, remember it’s a fun night. Limit presentations to 5-10 minutes each to keep the momentum going and retain everyone’s attention.
  • Use Visually Appealing Slides: Enhance your story with images, GIFs, and animations. A slide with a hilarious meme or a nostalgic family photo can evoke more emotions than a page full of text. Remember, it’s about entertainment!
  • Prepare a Cozy Atmosphere: Set the mood right. Dim the lights a bit, use a projector if available, and arrange comfortable seating. Whether it’s in a living room or a conference hall, make it feel intimate and warm.
  • Don’t Forget the Snacks!: No night is complete without munchies and beverages. Prepare a mix of salty and sweet snacks. Popcorn, chips, cookies, and perhaps some homemade treats can go a long way. Offer a mix of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, to cater to everyone’s preference.

If you love the idea of mixing laughter with a dash of competitive spirit, all while showcasing your most whimsical ideas through presentations, then you're in the right place. From crafting the perfect slide to mastering the art of the teleprompter game, we're here to walk you through 14 brilliant ideas that promise to make your PowerPoint night the talk of the town. So grab your projector, gather your friends, and get ready to dive into a night filled with creativity, debates, and unforgettable fun.

What is a PowerPoint Night?

This trend popped up back in 2020 on TikTok for those who really enjoy a good PowerPoint and the fun of presenting to a group of friends, but it’s still going strong in 2022. PowerPoint and presentation nights are parties where you and your friends get together to present silly topics to each other. It can be anything from reading a teleprompter blind to arguing what Disney villain deserves a redemption arc.

How to Make Your PowerPoint Night Great

The key to a good PowerPoint night is planning. From deciding the venue to selecting the theme, every detail counts. Begin by setting a date and inviting your friends well in advance. Next, decide on the format of the night: will it be a casual gathering or a more structured event with designated presentation times? Know what the topic(s) of the night will be.

Make sure you have the right tools you need. After all, you can’t have a PowerPoint or Teleprompter game without either of those. Effective event planning is crucial for the smooth execution of your PowerPoint night, turning a simple get-together into an epic event.

‍ Here are some PowerPoint night ideas to help you get started.

Teleprompter Games

Teleprompters are used by newscasters, politicians, and social influencers alike. They’re excellent for presentations, and that means they’re great for presentation game night. Here are some fun teleprompter games to play on your next game night.

Haywire Teleprompter

Write a news story for your friends to read with the solemness of a daytime newscaster. But here’s the twist. You and your friends each take the story, deliberately rewrite it with the intent to throw the speaker off, and then pass your scripts to each other. Whoever lasts the longest without cracking a smile wins.

Beat the Teleprompter

See which of your friends can read and speak the fastest. Use an app like Teleprompter with adjustable scroll speed , add a silly script, and take turns as you increase the scroll speed. For extra fun, add rules for slip-ups and laughing.

The Anchorman Teleprompter Game

This game is similar to Haywire Newscast teleprompter, but you use a teleprompter alongside Anchorman: Improper Teleprompter. The game involves choosing random words to fill in premade scripts. It isn’t original as Haywire Teleprompter, but the setup is quick and easy.

Group Blind Reads

Another game to make your friend laugh involves blind reading any presentation. Have your friends speak at length about the values of the turnip, or how they love the things you know they hate. If it’s in the script, they have to say it.

Clueless Narrator

Find any YouTube video you want, mute it, and write out the narration. Add all of the goofy commentaries you want, the only limit is imagination. Then have someone blind read from the teleprompter app as you watch the video as a group.

Who’s Who Presentation Night Ideas

group of friends having fun

Ever wanted to give a presentation on what you think of your friends? Exploring personal connections through creative presentations adds a heartfelt dimension to your PowerPoint night. These games involve making presentations on your friends, their habits, their fashion, or whatever you want. These friendship games not only foster a deeper sense of camaraderie but also provide endless entertainment.

Friend Starter Packs

What 5 items do you associate with each of your friends? Make a presentation, and tell them why.

What kind of [Blank] is Everyone

Time to tell your friends what things you associate them with. Pick a category and assign your friends to an item in it.

Everyone’s Theme Songs

What is your theme song, and what do your friends think your theme song is? Have everyone make a presentation and share the music they associate each other with.

Don’t name names in this game. Have everyone make presentations in secret that describes each other point for point. Then have a game of guessing who the PowerPoint is describing.

Friend Aesthetic

Aesthetic packs really took off a few years ago. In this game, design one for each of your friends, and share them at game night.

PowerPoint Party & Karaoke

This category is totally dedicated to delivering a PowerPoint presentation blind without breaking. An awesome choice for improv fans.

Unpopular Opinion Presentation

Pick random unpopular topics for your friends to try to make a convincing presentation for. This could be anything from pineapple on pizza to whether Beyonce is overrated.

Embarrass Your Friends Edition

Design PowerPoints deliberately made to embarrass your friends, and have them present them. Remember to be kind, but having your always-late friend give a presentation on the number of times they’ve been late is sure to get a chuckle.

Satire News Reporting

Another great game to combo with a teleprompter, this will be popular with any fans of The Onion. Design and present PowerPoints on satirized news events. E.g. “Local man still searching for the wallet still in his pocket.”

Random Slides

This presentation game involves picking random slides of stock photos and having presenters try to give a coherent presentation without knowing what the next slide will be.

Tips for a Successful PowerPoint Night

  • Start with a Theme : Establishing a theme can guide the tone and content of presentations, making the night more cohesive and engaging.
  • Preparation is Key : Encourage participants to prepare their presentations in advance to ensure a smooth flow of the night and minimize technical issues.
  • Set Time Limits : To keep the event dynamic and allow everyone a chance to present, set a reasonable time limit for each presentation.
  • Include Breaks : Schedule short breaks between presentations to allow for socializing, refreshments, and discussion about the topics presented.
  • Foster a Supportive Environment : Encourage positive feedback and respect for all presenters to maintain a fun and inclusive atmosphere.

‍Frequently Asked Questions

How do you pick topics for powerpoint night.

Choosing topics for PowerPoint night should be a fun and collaborative process. Consider the interests of your group, trending topics, or even random generators to spark creativity. Aim for a mix of humorous, thought-provoking, and absurd topics to keep presentations varied and entertaining. Engage your friends in the selection process through a group chat or poll to ensure everyone feels included and excited about the chosen topics.

What tools do you need for a successful PowerPoint night?

The essentials include a projector or large screen for displaying presentations, a computer or tablet with PowerPoint or a similar software installed, speakers for audio, and a comfortable seating arrangement for your audience. For a more interactive experience, consider incorporating a teleprompter app for certain games or challenges. Reliable Wi-Fi and access to online resources can also enhance the variety and quality of presentations.

Land the Joke with Teleprompter

Although a lot of these games require improvisation, some of them need a bit of preparation. For this, Teleprompter is the best teleprompter app to keep the fun rolling, especially for teleprompter presentation games. It’s quick and easy to use, meaning you won’t have to slow the fun down with setup. Plus, you won’t have to worry about forgetting any of the witty jokes you worked into your presentation the night before. Download Teleprompter for your next PowerPoint night today.

With many built-in tools that make the process simpler, there’s no longer a need to waste time creating traditional slideshows when Prezi can do a lot of the work for you. Let’s look at some Prezi features that would be particularly useful for bringing your PowerPoint night ideas to life.

AI presentation creator

One of Prezi’s biggest game-changers is its built-in AI assistant. Forget spending hours wrestling with layouts and agonizing over transitions. Prezi AI helps you transform your ideas, keywords, or even a rough outline into a captivating narrative . Simply jot down your key points, and Prezi AI will seamlessly arrange them into a visually stunning presentation.

This intuitive approach is perfect for creating a PowerPoint night presentation, where you might need to craft your presentation on the fly . Prezi AI handles the visual heavy-lifting, ensuring a polished presentation that keeps your audience engaged, freeing you to focus on delivering your topic and ideas with confidence.

AI text editing

Presentation nights should be light-hearted and fun, so why spend hours writing up slides when the Prezi AI text tool can speed up the process? This cool feature can recommend text for each section of your presentation, based on your chosen PowerPoint night ideas. You can prompt the AI by feeding it the information you want to talk about and it will write it up in a way that’s readable. It can also offer suggestions and edits for your text, so you don’t need to worry about spelling mistakes or whether your sentences make sense.

Layout functions

Not only can Prezi AI assist you with crafting text, but it can also help with the layout of each frame. It can condense text to bite-sized chunks and suggest a layout that’s clear for your audience, such as bullet points and lists. The AI can also offer recommendations for where each part of your slide should be placed for maximum impact and understanding, like where your text should be placed in comparison to images and visuals. This is essential when putting your PowerPoint night ideas into action, as it takes the hassle out of the design aspect and lets you focus on the content you want to talk about.

Open canvas

This is a signature feature of Prezi. The open canvas means that instead of a slide-by-slide slideshow, you can zoom in on important points and then zoom back out to the bigger picture. A good slideshow will usually tell a story, and this way of presenting your slides is perfect for storytelling, as you can walk the audience in and out of each scene as you’re telling the story. The end result will be a more dynamic, exciting slideshow than traditional methods. Presentation nights are all about humour and getting people talking, and Prezi presentations do just that.

Examples of Prezi in action

This presentation showcases Prezi open canvas features beautifully. As you can see, the presentation begins with a full view of the content, and then as the presentation progresses it uses the zoom feature to capture each point close up. This is much more enjoyable than traditional slideshows, and it’s a great way to put your PowerPoint night ideas into action.

International celebration of ice cream

This Prezi is a great example of how you can make a presentation that’s fun and engaging, the perfect inspiration for your PowerPoint night ideas. Again, the open canvas adds a layer of excitement that’s totally different from slideshows. The choice of lively colors and images used here would be great for a presentation night. Prezi has many visuals to choose from that you can add to your presentation, adding an extra layer of entertainment for your guests.

Powerpoint night ideas that come to life with the help of Prezi

To wrap up, Prezi stands out as a superior choice for those looking to elevate their PowerPoint nights from simple slideshows to engaging stories. Prezi’s design tools, including Prezi AI , make the creation process much easier. The standout open canvas feature allows presenters to showcase key points, making stories more dynamic. This approach makes sure your PowerPoint nights are far from dull, encouraging laughter and discussions through impactful presentations.

10 Fun "Presentation Night" Ideas

10 Fun “Presentation Night” Ideas

Presentation night is an evening where you get together with friends and give funny presentations using slideshows and it may be just what you need to keep the good times rolling. here’s how to craft a fun presentation night for your friends..

In this blog post, we’ll discuss:

What Is a Presentation Night?

How to host a presentation night.

  • Entertaining Presentation Night Ideas

How to Make Your Presentation Night Slideshow

In a nutshell, it’s an evening where you get together with friends and give funny presentations using slideshows (like you would at work, but with a lot more laughter). Instead of talking about sales goals and marketing strategies, guests present their bold observations and hot takes about a topic.

Whether it’s sharing how you really feel about a celebrity or why you think you were a goat-herder in a past life, a presentation night is a surefire way to get creative and learn more about your friends.

Nobody knows who had the first presentation night, but the trend has taken off over the last few years, especially as people started spending more time inside.

In fact, on TikTok alone, there are over 200 million views of videos with the hashtag #PresentationNight, as well as tons of ideas for hosting your own.

So, are you ready to start working on your dek?

Explore these fun presentation night ideas and learn how to make your presentation night slideshow in minutes.

Let’s get started.

When you consider how new of a trend presentation night is, the unwritten rules and etiquette of how to host yours can be pretty confusing. Do you keep things low-key and try not to overthink it? Or, should you go all out and make a big deal of it?

How you plan yours is up to you. Still, you can follow these three steps to host your presentation night with finesse:

1. Invite Your Friends

Presentation night slideshow template with pink background behind paintbrush effect and text that says "live in the moment"

Of course, you were already going to invite your friends, right? But, who and how many friends you invite influences how intimate your presentation night turns out.

If you welcome more guests—especially those that bring a plus-one—it might be harder for the personal humor, rhythm, and energy of your inner circle to come through.

However, hosting a large group is worth it when you choose a relatable theme (and if you want to get to know some new people).

2. Choose Your Theme

Presentation slide featuring healthy living theme

There are two types of presentation night themes: a group theme or an individual theme.

A group theme is when all your guests present on the same topic. By limiting the night to one subject, you allow everyone to engage with each other and operate within a similar scope of knowledge. And, in turn, this promotes social harmony for your night.

Meanwhile, an individual theme is like an UNO Wild Card—you can choose your own topic and go as subjective, specific, and weird as you’d like.

3. Setup Your Presentation Area

Whether or not you have equipment at home, putting your own spin on your presentation setup will make your night feel special.

Be sure you have your presentation ready to go. And, remember to let your guests know which presentation software you’ll be using for the evening. (After all, there’s nothing more awkward than when your slideshow won’t show up on the screen).

Entertaining Presentation Night Ideas

What’s the secret sauce behind an unforgettable presentation night?

Simple: It starts with creative ideas. Before you wear your party host hat and mingle with your guests, discover these fun presentation night ideas and examples for any budget.

1. Rank the Songs on an Album

Presentation night slideshow example with black background and an orange header text that says "BBNY" next to Bad Bunny logo icon above a sample album cover with text to left and graphic of boy riding bike down street above the tracklist

Pick an album all your guests have listened to and know well, and have everyone present how they’d rank the best songs on it.

With a close group of friends, feel free to choose one they have strong opinions of. Or, go with a popular album if you host a lot of guests and don’t know their taste in music.

2. Your Friends as Movie and TV Characters

Presentation night slideshow example with light purple background above six faces of TV show characters divided by title text that says "Friends"

Call on your own ensemble cast of Friends and make a case for why they’re a real-life version of that movie or TV character. For everyone who believes they are a Monica or a Rachel, this one’s for you.

3. Trivia with Friends

Presentation night slideshow template with background divided by two columns and the first features headshot of woman while the second has text featuring a quiz

Prefer to get personal? Make your friends the stars of your presentation night instead.

Remind your guests to include ten trivia questions about themselves in their slideshows. Then, sit back and watch how long it takes your guests to answer them correctly.

4. Trends You Followed

Presentation night slideshow example with a green photo background behind a sunburnt woman looking to the right while wearing and lifting up pink shutter-shades

The magic of presentation night is that it helps you get to know your friends even better. Did they wear low-rise jeans in the 2000s? Are they always the first to join new social media platforms? This theme dials up the nostalgia and will have you traveling back in time.

5. Which Era Best Suits Your Friends?

Presentation night slideshow graphic design example with a tan background and the Space Needle and a clownfish and a music record behind font with iridescent grooves and text that says "1972"

Make no mistake, if there’s a character or a trivia question that speaks to you, there’s a decade for you and your friends. Share why you think it speaks to their style as much as their spirit.

6. What Would Your Friends Do in The Hunger Games ?

Presentation night slideshow example with a black background featuring the Hunger Games logo behind text that says "Areli by Yaquelinne" and "Bermudez Zamorano Yaquelinne Lizeth"

Beyond comparing your friends to a compelling era or figure, it’s also fun to imagine what they’d do in the The Hunger Games . Predict who would be fending off enemies, gathering berries, or falling asleep.

And, let the debates begin.

7. Why _____ Is Underrated

Remember what we said about hot takes? Spice things up at your presentation night with a provocative topic that will have your guests defending what they consider overrated.

8. Tour Your Dream House

You can also customize your own presentation night slideshow template with Shutterstock Create.

3. Swap Images, Graphics, Text

In Shutterstock Create, click Photos and Video > Add photo to add images. Choose from Shutterstock’s stock library , or import your own.

Click Graphics > Add text to add text.

4. Choose Colors

5. Download and Export

Download your presentation night slideshow as a PNG, JPG, or MP4 file. Shutterstock Create subscribers can also download as a PDF file.

If you download as a PNG or JPG, your file will export as a .ZIP file.

If you download as an MP4, you can export as a single video file or individual files.

So, get creative, have fun, and remember to double-check your work before presenting.

It's a new trend that's taking over is PowerPoint nights . This TikTok trend hit its peak popularity in 2020 during the pandemic. People were looking for a way to connect and have fun through technology.

A PowerPoint night is where a group of friends create short presentations about fun topics. After they create them, they present them to their group of friends, either in person or over a video call. People often have snacks and beverages that they eat and drink during these fun nights.

Now that you know what a PowerPoint is, maybe you want to know how to host one? Here’s how:

1. Choose Who to Invite

Choose who to invite

A key part of a PowerPoint night is having fun; this means that you want to invite people you’d have fun with. This type of party isn’t for everyone.  Adults, Young adults, and teens would do better with this type of night. You want people who would have experience making presentations.

2. Explain the Rules

After choosing who you want to invite, you’ll need to explain the rules of the game you’re playing. You should also explain if there's a theme and what topics everyone in your group wants. For example, some people set rules like you've got three minutes to present your topic, and your limit is three PowerPoint slides.

You can have people do a topic they're passionate about or have a theme. If you’re worried about people having the same subject, have your guests submit their topics beforehand. This means that if someone submits the same topic as someone else, they can choose another topic.

3. Send the Link

If you decide to do the PowerPoint night over a video call, send the link to your friends and join the call early. Entering the call early will give you work out any possible technical difficulties. Plus, you can allow everyone to share their screen while they're presenting.

4. Have Fun!

Have Fun!

Remember, the most important part of PowerPoint nights is to have fun. This means the presentations can be filled with memes, images, gifs, videos, charts, and whatever else you need.

Most PowerPoint parties have funny topics, and the presentations aren’t taken seriously. This night is used as a time to have fun and unwind.

In this section, I'll show you some title slides and some ideas to help boost your creativity. I’m using the Color FUN PowerPoint premium template from Envato Elements.

If you want to have a fun night but don’t want to do a presentation, here are some funny PowerPoint night ideas for some games instead:

1. Bracket Nights

Bracket Nights

This game is great for any group that likes to debate. In this game, you choose a topic that's got 16 subcategories—for example, types of tables.

After you’ve chosen a topic, you and your friends debate it until you come up with the best of the category. Then you can have a winner in the topic. For example, you and your friend might debate and end up deciding that a recliner is the best chair.

2. Build a Theory

If you and your friends are creative, this could be the game for you. In this game, you give your friend a random topic, and they've got to build a crazy conspiracy theory around it.

Each friend is given a separate topic and whoever comes up with the best theory wins.

You can also do a spin-off of this game where you give your friend two separate random topics. They've got to connect these two topics in a conspiracy theory. Whoever creates the best theory wins.

3. Research Random Funny PowerPoint Night Topics

Research random fun topics

If you've got a group that likes to learn, this could be a fun game. In this game, everyone is given a presentation topic at random. Each person is given ten minutes (or however long you choose) to research and create a presentation topic. Then, each person has to present the topic to everyone. Whoever has the best presentation and well-researched topic wins.

4. Three Minute Passionate Presentation

This game is very similar to a PowerPoint night. In this game, people aren’t assigned a topic; they get to choose their own topic.

Each friend gives a three-minute presentation that they're passionate about. The limit is three slides, and the presentation can’t go over three minutes. In the end, everyone votes on who has the best presentation and chooses the winner.

5. Random Rant

Random Rant

This game is fun if you and your group like to rant about various things. In this game, everyone is assigned a random topic. Then, the person has to present an angry rant about the topic. Whoever gives the best rant wins the game.

6. Would You Rather

Would you rather.

This PowerPoint night most people have played before. In case you haven’t played before, give your audience two scenarios in this game. They've got to choose which one they would rather experience.

You can still easily play this game if you've got a large audience. You can use an interactive poll tool or have the audience members raise their hands. An example of this type of question is "Would you rather have four arms or six feet?" The players choose which one they prefer.

7. Two Truths and One Lie

This presentation night idea is self-explanatory. You play this game by saying three statements. Two statements must be facts that are truths about yourself, and the third statement must be a believable lie.

The players pick which statement they think is a lie. This game is an excellent way for your audience to learn more about you. If you have a large audience, you can have your audience vote by raising their hands or using a voting poll tool.

8. PowerPoint Karaoke

PowerPoint Karaoke

PowerPoint Karaoke is a presentation night idea where the presenter has to give a presentation based on a set of slides they’ve never seen before. Most players of this game download a presentation deck from the internet to get unknown topics and slides. The rules of this game are:

  • The presenter cannot see the slides before presenting.
  • The slides must be given in order, and skipping slides is not allowed.
  • Once all the slides have been presented, the presentation is over. (You can set a time limit if you desire.)
  • The slides can be about a regular topic (for example, a country, animal, or hobby), a complex topic (for example, the economy, a concept of science), or nonsense.

It is a straightforward way to keep yourselves busy for the night (add wine and make it a drinking game if you wish).

American girl doll rice purity scores

Just so you know, this virtuous Doll serves as our childhood material mentor, but in the words of wisdom from Cobra Starship’s hit song, “Good Girls Go Bad.” We also know Kit Kittredge isn’t that innocent; he’s just pretending. But the blonde bob, lavender cardigan, and flat-panel floral skirt fooled no one.

Recasting your friends as high school musical characters

Each group of friends has Taylor Mckessie and Sharpay Evans. This topic will always be a hit on PowerPoint night ideas for you, a basketball athlete, or a theater kid.

Your friend’s celebrity lookalikes

You will be on top of PowerPoint night ideas if you understand this topic and put together pieces that your friend looks precisely like Buford from Phineas and Ferb (true story) because cartoons can be a target too. Start thinking!

Who will you play in Shrek live-action?

Shrek is in a funny category, and this topic is a winner. This topic is a genius idea. Shrek did a lot of comedy on presentation night. In addition to the Shrek cast, there are also Ratatouille, Madagascar, and Ice Age actors.

Top 10 worst trends of the 2000s

With the people hyping up the Y2K trends , this Idea allows you to take a trip down memory lane. I talked to my roommate about how I wore jean shorts over my pink leggings in high school. Then, I paired it with a green top to look like a watermelon.

The only trend of the 2000s was Lip Smackers. This Idea would be fun for you to come.

Disney characters you would not let hold my drink at a party

You can use Disney characters in your PowerPoint night ideas, like mystical and magical Disney. You might be able to name five to 10 slightly sketchy Disney characters. For example, you can use the Baboon character from The Lion King. Now activate that Disney+ account and explore those childhood classics!

Predicting your friend’s futures

You can get creative and make each of your friend’s future starter packs for your PowerPoint evening. It is an easy and fun topic to dive into & test your best friend’s knowledge.

Rating your friend’s drunk snacks

You can include ideas, for example, when you open the refrigerator. You will find some food for reference ideas.

The spicy Cheetos are the only thing that will make the night right for some. There was a pizza roll and a bag of Skittles. For example, make a literal video of someone eating a bowl of turkey with a spoon or eating a piece of bread.

Whatever floats your boat, put it in PowerPoint night ideas.

Rating the most attractive fast-food mascots

This topic is entirely out of the box. This Idea is a new contribution to the world of PowerPoint night ideas.

Rating your friends as getaway drivers

We all have friends who are currently driving like runaway drivers without being asked (the sound of a car swerving). Now is the time to allow them to maneuver quickly in traffic without causing accidents. Channel the “Driver” idea in this PowerPoint night!

Which old flame of Jose Rizal would your friends’ date?

Jose Rizal is more than just a revolutionary writer, sports fan, and lover. Rizal likes many of these women for different reasons. According to him, every woman is a unique individual.

Recasting Four Sisters and a Wedding, but it’s you and your friends

This iconic film will have you laughing at one scene and crying the next because there are more characters than just the four sisters—and you might relate to one feeling a little more than the other.

An in-depth analysis of your friend group’s reactions to different types/amounts of alcohol.

You can use PowerPoint night ideas with varying types of alcohol according to How I Met Your Mother episode 22 of Season 6, entitled: The Perfect Cocktail .

Different people react to alcohol (and other types of alcohol) differently. Therefore, take this opportunity to use all the photos and videos of your friends, but in an analytical, scientific, research paper way.

Which atomic model best suits your friend’s personality?

We are all material, so it’s time to get personal on this PowerPoint night’s atomic (and perhaps philosophical) level. Everything that occupies space and has weight is called matter. The matter consists of atoms.

What would your friends do if they were on ASAP?

ASAP has provided entertainment for over 20 years with a variety of shows. What would your friends do if they were on stage?

Apart from roles, it also takes a hard-working and dedicated crew to produce such a show. Maybe you can take PowerPoint night ideas to another level and turn them into a variety show.

The Taylor Swift song era that best describes your friend’s romantic past and present (or lack thereof)

The Powerpoint topics are specifically for everyone out there. They travel down memory lane and rediscover past emotions. Meanwhile, Taylor and his fans are preparing for the release of Red (Taylor’s Version).

Ranking who would most likely help you hide a body (and what their plan would be)

Are you and your friends For-Lifers? (For this purpose, it is a joke only for entertainment among friends)

What art period/movement would your friends in thrive?

Interesting Bob Ross Powerpoint topic is suitable for art. Be it in self-created art or the world scene during the period/movement.

Do you give off “Sinigang” or adobo energy?

The topic of Powerpoint Sinigang or adobo to explain it to some people gives a different vibe.

Who your friends’ perfect ka-love team would be (and if they would end up dating off-screen)

Celebrities are constantly trying to develop the on-screen couple with the best chemistry. Stars or your group of friends can do the match.

History drunk

The presenter selects a historical figure or event as the topic of the evening’s PowerPoint. For example, asking everyone with their personality or period style to drink alcohol before a presentation is fun.

The greatest ever

Each presenter selects a movie television show, game town, or food town in the same genre to encourage a friendly contest.

Theorems about conspiracy theories

Choose alternative conspiracy theories to convince everyone.

Writing characters

Presenters choose groups: dogs, characters from television, movies or books, and food, and explain who will be in each group. For example, the presenter can describe the Harry Potter characters.

Superlative, adult edition

Give each of your friends the best adult version, e.g., the Irish are going out of the party, they might order takeout even after an entire Trader Joe’s ride, etc.

And those are 35 topics for PowerPoint Night Ideas that can be your reference.

HUMAN EVENTS: Last night was Trump vs the Mean Girls

HUMAN EVENTS: Last night was Trump vs the Mean Girls

As last night’s debate proceeded, left-wing Twitter was gleeful. In their view, Trump got destroyed in pretty much every way known to man. Yet in the light of day, even the largely pro-Harris media has been forced to avoid such overexcited wishcasting. All they can agree on, seemingly, is that the debate…wasn’t particularly civil.

What happened? Well, perhaps they did what liberals have struggled to do for the past eight years: namely, they got off social media and actually talked to actual undecided voters. And, at least if you judge by Reuters and the New York Times, the results were not the blowout Twitter was expecting. While the people in question didn’t like Trump’s performance, they also weren’t all that concerned because they could remember what it was like when he was president. Harris, on the other hand, was simply too “vague” (their words) for them to trust her. This suggests that, despite the CNN post-debate poll showing 63 percent of voters saying Harris won, compared to only 37 for Trump, it may not move the needle nearly as much as the average pink hat wearer would hope.

But just as importantly, we think there is ample room for optimism that Trump will gain sympathy over time. Because not only was last night’s debate not civil, it wasn’t even fair.

To begin with, the optics alone were terrible: Trump was on the left side of the screen, with the camera pointing down at him (a classic filmmaking technique to make someone appear villainous). But worse than that, it quickly devolved into a 3-on-1. This became obvious around the same time the debate started going downhill for Trump: when moderator Linsey Davis did something which was supposed to be utterly off-limits since 2012 and corrected President Trump live on-air. After what had otherwise been a strong performance from the former president pointing out the extremism of the Democrats’ abortion stance, and how it even includes support for abortion after birth, Davis sniffed that there was no state where abortion after birth is legal. This was a total non sequitur, by the way, since what Trump was talking about what the Democrats want to be legal, not what is, and was referencing a statement by former Gov. Ralph Northam of Virginia, which is on tape:

Again, this kind of correction was a scandal in 2012 when moderator Candy Crowley corrected Republican nominee Mitt Romney live on-air. Yet last night? It was hard to tell who Trump was debating at times, so often did the moderators—particularly David Muir—make themselves part of the story. And the point was obvious: to throw Trump off his stride. Because, as became obvious in the first segment (on the economy), Kamala Harris could not handle him on her own.

However, once abortion came around and it was clear the moderators would protect her at all costs? Well, anyone would feel confident, then, because not only was Trump fact checked, but Kamala was allowed to use any argument she wanted, the facts be damned. For example, she was allowed to lie about Trump’s support of Project 2025 (he doesn’t support it), his record on IVF (he supports it), the “very fine people” hoax, the lie that he denigrated the military, and those are just the ones we remember. Worse still, the questions themselves were slanted, with the moderators often asking Trump questions that were literal Harris campaign talking points, only to then turn to Harris and ask her to react, with virtually no challenge in response. No wonder whatever that this happened on the most anti-Trump news network in America.

In short, Trump got jumped. It was 3-on-1, and he had to swing at everyone, not just his opponent. This wasn’t a fair fight; it was an ambush. Some even suspect that Harris was given the questions in advance.

In other words, it would have taken a miracle to come out of this unscathed.

So why was Trump still able to win over undecided voters? Well, the answer there comes not so much in what was said, but in what wasn’t. Not only was Harris essentially pivoting from one canned, contentless speech to another the entire night, but her nonverbal behavior during the debate was atrocious; so much so that it invites comparisons to the infamous 1960 Kennedy-Nixon debate, which Kennedy won among TV viewers because Nixon’s sweating made him appear untrustworthy. Kamala didn’t sweat – though her nerves were apparent early on – but oh boy, did she smirk. While Trump’s expression was basically a brick wall the whole time, with occasional flashes of wry humor, Kamala practically mugged for the camera, like she was trying to do an impression of Maya Rudolph’s impression of her. It didn’t just come off as silly, but as smug, insufferable, and catty. At times we weren’t sure if we were watching Trump debating Kamala Harris, or Cady Herron debating Regina George, with Gretchen Wieners and Karen Smith moderating.

Don’t take our word for it. The often anti-Trump pollster Frank Luntz said this more diplomatically, but more or less agreed:

Which is yet another reason why we think that with time, Trump’s performance will be viewed with more sympathy. Because while liberals have been begging for someone to laugh in Trump’s face and goad him for eight years, voters don’t actually want to vote for the political equivalent of female high school bullies snickering into their hands, particularly when those bullies are laughing at concerns they may share. The natural question is, “would they be that nasty to me?” And the answer is yes, yes they would, because in their eyes, Trump supporters – and anyone who dares to question them— are only worthy of unbridled malice.

Which is funny, because Kamala herself seemed eager to crib from Trump’s notes. This was particularly obvious early on in the debate, when she not only had to dodge the obvious point that her own administration kept Trump’s tariffs on China in place, but also had to concede that Trump had been right all along about something when she blamed President Xi Jinping of China for COVID. Yes, the thing that was derided as a racist conspiracy theory in 2020 is now a Democratic talking point. We think the lady doth smirk too much.

Not to mention that despite any missteps he may have made, Trump closed strong, with a question that was basically a bullet to the entire Harris leer-laugh-lie strategy: “Why hasn’t she done it?”

Why, indeed? To the extent that Harris has an agenda at all, you have to wonder: why hasn’t she been able to take leadership on any of it? Why did it only materialize literally this Monday? Again, this is why undecided voters might be inclined to score the debate as a draw. Because Trump, love him or hate him, has been saying the same thing for eight years. Harris’ policy agenda isn’t even a week old, and flatly contradicts what she’s run on in the past. So which is the real Harris? Trump saved that question – the most important one, and the one that (by design) she could not answer with the help of her ABC toadies – for last. And as closing statements go, he made it count.

Which is to say nothing about the fact that despite all her carefully choreographed speechifying, Harris studiously avoided addressing her biggest weaknesses – her perceived extreme progressivism and her perceived connection to the Biden administration. Her only gesture toward dispelling the idea that she’s too progressive was touting an endorsement by Dick Cheney – a figure practically synonymous with the worst parts of the Washington establishment. And as for her connections to Biden? Here’s a game for you: name one time when she disagreed with Biden’s approach as president. On anything. You can’t, because it didn’t happen. Which means Harris did nothing to help herself with the kind of people who will decide this election. Instead, her entire performance was pitched straight at the Reddit and SNL crowd who just wanted someone to belittle the Bad Orange Man. Sorry liberals, but even if man cannot live on bread alone, no one can live entirely on Twitter owns.

Oh, and did we mention that Kamala Harris is already calling for a second debate? Because she is. Which just goes to show that either her campaign is desperately afraid that last night didn’t go as well as the media believes (which, after the undecided reaction, seems likely), or else they’re so suicidally overconfident that they can’t imagine President Trump learning from the experience and counterpunching. Either way, they will regret it.

So, be of good cheer. Yes, maybe Kamala Harris made herself look like a winner to the pundit class for two hours. Donald Trump made all of America win for four straight years. Kamala Harris was fake, evasive, and slippery; Donald Trump was real, warts and all. Which is why, despite the flood of premature backslapping last night, the media has avoided calling the night a blowout. Even they know that once the glitz fades, and the smoke clears, the American people will remember who talked, and who acted. They’ll remember who pretended to stand for democracy despite getting zero votes, and who actually stands for it despite getting at least one bullet to the head for his trouble. And, as even Reuters and the New York Times have been forced to concede, there is still every reason to believe that when November comes along, people will vote for a real, if flawed change agent over a fake, disingenuous, smirking embodiment of the status quo.

California teachers union drops 'BIPOC' board position after discrimination lawsuit

by KRISTINA WATROBSKI | Crisis in the Classroom

Issac Newman (The Fairness Center)

ELK GROVE, Calif. (CITC) — A California teachers union agreed Thursday to drop its "BIPOC" executive board position after a member filed a discrimination lawsuit.

The lawsuit filed in late May centered around the “BIPOC At-Large” board position for the Elk Grove Education Association (EGEA). The executive role, created by the teachers union in 2023, was reserved for educators who identify as a member of a racial minority group, according to the lawsuit.

History teacher Issac Newman claimed he was denied the ability to run for the position due to being White. He accused EGEA of discrimination, alleging the board position's criteria permanently damaged his "future prospects of attaining a union leadership role.”

EGEA agreed Thursday to end the "BIPOC At-Large" position, as well as to demonstrate commitment to "non-discriminatory practices" in other positions, Newman's attorneys announced . A judge also entered an order requiring EGEA to pay Newman $12,000 and to pay his attorney fees.

Newman told Crisis in the Classroom (CITC) Friday that while the decision is "enormous progress," he feels someone must still "hold the union to its word." The teacher said he plans to run for a new executive position "on a platform of diversity of thought, equity that fairly rewards merit, and inclusion of all employees without regard to race.”

“I did everything I could to persuade my union to see the injustice of segregating teachers through this discriminatory board position, but they refused to see reason. Yet as soon as they heard from my lawyers, they backtracked, removed the racial requirement to run for election, and promised to never practice discrimination in other positions," Newman said.

Some supported the EGEA board position while the lawsuit was ongoing. Lorreen Pryor, a parent in the Elk Grove Unified School District, told CBS News in June that such positions are often created due to a lack of representation and "the need for diverse voices."

CITC reached out to EGEA for comment, but did not receive a response prior to publication.
