ఈ “మారుతినగర్ సుబ్రమణ్యం” ఒక సరదా చిత్రం. లాజిక్కులు, కన్విన్సింగ్ సీన్లు ఆశించకుండా చూసేస్తే బాగానే ఉంటుంది.

లో బడ్జెట్ కామెడీ సినిమాలు తరచూ వస్తుంటాయి. అయితే వాటికి పెద్ద బ్యానర్లో, పేర్లో తోడైనప్పుడు కాస్త అంచనాలు పెరుగుతాయి. అలా ఈ చిత్రం సుప్రసిద్ధ దర్శకుడు సుకుమార్ సతీమణి తబిత సమర్పణలో విడుదలయ్యింది. ప్రచారంలో అల్లు అర్జున్ కూడా పాల్గొనడంతో ప్రేక్షకుల దృష్టి దీనిపై పడింది. ఇంతకీ ఆశించిన ఫలితం దక్కిందో లేదో చూద్దాం.

సుబ్రమణ్యం (రావురమేష్) మారుతినగర్లో నివశించే ఒక మధ్య తరగతి మనిషి. అతను 1998లో టీచర్ ఉద్యోగానికి సెలక్టైనా నియామకం ఆపేయడంతో అప్పటి నుంచీ నిరుద్యోగిగా గడిపేస్తుంటాడు. అతని భార్య కళావతి (ఇంద్రజ) మాత్రం ఉద్యోగం చేస్తుంటుంది. వాళ్ల కొడుకు అర్జున్ (అంకిత్ కొయ్య). కానీ అతని అసలు తండ్రి నిర్మాత అల్లు అరవింద్ అని, ఎప్పుడో అప్పుడు తనను ఈ మధ్యతరగతి కూపం నుంచి తీసుకెళ్లిపొతాడని నమ్ముతుంటాడు. ఇతను కాంచన (రమ్య) అనే అమ్మాయిని ప్రేమిస్తాడు.

ఇదిలా ఉండగా ఒక రోజు అనుకోకుండా సుబ్రమణ్యం అకౌంట్లో పది లక్షలు పడతాయి. ఆ డబ్బు ఎలా వచ్చింది, ఎవరు వేసారనేది తెలీదు. అలా అనుకోకుండా వచ్చి పడిన డబ్బు సుబ్రమణ్యాన్ని ఎలా ప్రభావితం చేసింది అనేదే తక్కిన కథంతా!

ఈ కథ వింటూంటేనే ప్రధానమైన లాజిక్ లోపం అర్ధమవుతుంది. బ్యాంక్ అకౌంట్లో క్రెడిట్ అయిన డబ్బు ఎవరు వేసారో తెలియకపోవడమేంటి? ఈ ఆన్లైన్ రోజుల్లో బ్యాంక్ ట్రాన్సాక్షన్ ప్రతీదీ నెట్ బ్యాంకింగులో రికార్డవుతుంది. పాస్ బుక్ అప్డేట్ చేసుకునే సీన్ కూడా ఉంది ఇందులో. అందులో అయినా తెలుస్తుంది సెండర్ ఎవరన్నది. అయినా కూడా కన్వీనియంట్ గా ఆ లాజిక్కులన్నీ వదిలేసి కేవలం డ్రామా మీదే ఫోకస్ పెట్టి, జనం కూడా అలాగే చూసేస్తారని తీసేసిన చిత్రమిది.

అయితే డ్రామా నడపడం వరకు బాగానే ఉంది. ఎంచుకున్న నటీనటులు విషయమున్నవాళ్లు కనుక అంతా సరదాగా సాగిపోయింది.

మధ్యతరగతి జీవితం, వాళ్ల చిన్న చిన్న కోరికలు, ఆశలు, భయాలు, అవసరాలు అన్నీ రావురమేష్ పాత్ర ద్వారా కళ్లకు కట్టినట్టు చూపించాడు దర్శకుడు. అయితే కథంతా అక్కడక్కడే తిరుగుతూ సీన్లు, ఎమోషన్ రిపీట్ అవుతున్నట్టుగా అనిపిస్తుంది కొన్ని సార్లు.

ఉన్నంతలో కామెడీ ట్రాక్ ని వెరైటీగా నడపాలని చూసాడు. హీరోయిన్ ఫ్యామిలీ మోడెర్న్ సంస్కృతి, రావురమేష్ వెనకుబాటుతనం మధ్య కామెడీ వర్కౌట్ అయ్యింది. అలాగే ఇక్కడ హీరోయిన్ క్యారెక్టర్ కి, క్యారెక్టరైజేషన్ కి పెద్ద ప్రాముఖ్యత లేదు. అదొక సరదా పాత్ర అంతే. హీరో అంకిత్ కొయ్య కూడా అంతే. ప్రధాన కథంతా రావు రమేష్ మీదే నడుస్తుంది. చాలా బాగా నటించాడు. ఒక్కోసారి కాస్త ఓవరాక్షన్ అనిపించినా అది ఈ జానర్లో సెట్టైపోయింది.

ఇంద్రజ తెర మీద కనిపించిన సీన్లలోనే కాకుండా, కనిపించని సీన్లల్లో కూడా తన ఇంపాక్ట్ చూపించింది. అయితే సీరియస్ గా కనిపించిన క్యారెక్టర్ చివరి భాగంలో ఊర మాస్ తీన్మార్ స్టెప్పులేయడం నాన్ సింక్ అనిపించింది. ఇంద్రజ డ్యాన్స్ బాగా చేస్తుంది కనుక ఆమె ప్రతిభని వాడేయాలని బలవంతంగా చొప్పించినట్టుంది ఈ డ్యాన్స్.

హర్షవర్ధన్ తన పాత్ర వరకు హుందాగా, సటిల్ గా చేసుకుపోయాడు. బిందు చంద్రమౌళి కూడా ఓకే. పక్కింటి పార్ధసారధిగా శివన్నారాయణ ది చిన్న ట్రాక్.

భారీ బిల్డప్పుతో ఎంట్రీ ఇచ్చిన కమెడియన్ ప్రవీణ్ ఆశించిన రీతిలో నవ్వించలేదు. స్క్రిప్ట్ ఇంకాస్త బలంగా ఉంటే ఆ క్యారెక్టర్ కూడా బాగా పండేది.

అన్నట్టు ట్రావెల్ వీడియోలు చేసే వ్లాగర్ అన్వేష్ క్యారక్టర్ ని ఇందులో వాడుకోవడం జరిగింది. అతను అర్జెంటైనా టూరులో బ్లాక్ మనీ, వైట్ మనీ కాకుండా “బ్లూ మనీ” గురించి చెప్పాడు. అదే మేటర్ ని ఇందులో ప్రవీణ్ ట్రాకులో వాడారు. అంతటితో ఆగకుండా అన్వేష్ బాడీ లాంగ్వేజ్, వాయిస్ ని ఇమిటేట్ చేస్తూ ఒక పాత్రను కూడా పెట్టారు.

టెక్నికల్ గా చూస్తే యావరేజ్ గా ఉంది. పాటల్లో కూడా పట్టు లేదు. నేపథ్య సంగీతం జస్ట్ ఓకే. ఇలాంటి సినిమాని సరైన బ్యాక్ గ్రౌండ్ స్కోర్ తో ఇంకా హిలారియస్ గా చేయొచ్చు అనిపించింది.

ఈ చిత్రానికి ప్రధానమైన ప్లస్ పాయింట్ కథలో ఐడియా, మరియు రావురమేష్ నటన. మైనస్ ఏమిటంటే ప్రధానమైన ట్విస్టులు కనివిన్సింగ్ గా లేకపోవడం.

ప్రధమార్ధంలో పాత్రల పరిచయంతో మొదలై వాళ్ల ఇష్టాలు, కష్టాలు అన్నీ చెబుతూ కథలో కాన్ ఫ్లిక్ట్ పాయింట్ కూడా స్టార్ట్ అవుతుంది. ఇంటర్వల్ బ్యాంగ్ సరదాగానే ఉంది. ద్వితీయార్ధంలో సస్పెన్స్ వీడినట్టే వీడి మళ్లీ ఒక చోట మొదలవుతుంది. ఈ విషయంలో స్క్రీన్ ప్లేని మెచ్చుకోవచ్చు.

తాను కోరుకున్న ప్రభుత్వ ఉద్యోగం రాలేదని 26ఏళ్లుగా అసలు ఏ ఉద్యోగమూ చేయకుండా గడిపేసే వ్యక్తిని అర్ధం చేసుకోవడం కష్టం. ఎంత కనిన్విన్స్ చేసే ప్రయత్నం చేసినా కనెక్ట్ అవడం కూడా కష్టం. అలాగే, అల్లు అరవింద్ కొడుకుని అనే భ్రమలో బతికే హీరో ట్రాక్ ని కూడా కామెడీ దిశగా ఇంకాస్త నడిపించినా బాగానే ఉండేది.

మొత్తంగా చూస్తే ఈ “మారుతినగర్ సుబ్రమణ్యం” ఒక సరదా చిత్రం. లాజిక్కులు, కన్విన్సింగ్ సీన్లు ఆశించకుండా చూసేస్తే బాగానే ఉంటుంది. అదే కనుక ఇంకాస్త కన్విన్సింగ్ స్క్రీన్ ప్లే రాసుకుని మరింత బలమైన ట్విస్టుతో ప్రెజెంట్ చేసి ఉంటే ఈ చిత్రం మరో మెట్టు పైకెక్కి ఉండేది. ఇలాంటి సినిమాలు పండగ సీజన్లోనో, సెలవల్లోనో వస్తే ప్రేక్షకాదరణ బాగుండేది.

What’s it about?

Business magnet Rajendra (Sarath Kumar) is told he has pancreatic cancer. His prognosis from doctors is that he has no more than 10 months to live. Up until that point, he had dealt with complete brutality, thinking that only his two eldest sons (Srikanth and Shaam), could take over his business empire. Vijay, Rajednra’s youngest son, moved out seven years ago after they had a disagreement.

Because of his terminal illness and the dawning realisation that his older sons are not as perfect as he had once thought them to be, he has declared his younger son Vijay to be the true Vaarasudu (heir).

But the transition is difficult; the other two sons rebel, and the family appears to be on the verge of breaking apart.

Two recent Telugu Sankranthi films, “Waltair Veerayya” and “Veera Simha Reddy,” are focused on the bond between siblings. Similarly, “Vaarasudu” explores the sentiment among brothers. The dubbed version of the Tamil film “Varisu”, titled “Vaarasudu,” arrived in theatres three days after the original version.

It doesn’t take long for us to figure out that Vamshi Paidipally and the other screenwriters just recycled a bunch of old Telugu movies and strung them together. Paidipally tells a story about family values and the significance of a united family, entering the territory of director Trivikram, who is master at such family dramas.

Familiar setting aside, many sequences also remind movies like Trivikram’s “Attarintiki Daaredi” and “Ala Vaikuntapurramlo”.

The patriarch of the family in ‘Attarintiki Daaredi,’ a multimillionaire business magnet, has a epiphany about the importance of living peacefully before his death and asks his grandson (Pawan Kalyan) to bring his estranged daughter to him so that they can be reunited.

Similarly, in “Vaarasudu,” the business magnate patriarch of the family asks his son (played by Vijay) to mend the family’s rifts so that he can pass away in peace.

In a hilarious scene from “Vaarasudu,” Vijay tries to win over the company’s board of directors. This whole thing feels lifted right out of “Ala Vaikunthapurramloo.”

There is a sense of having “been there, seen that” in both the story and the narration. Although it has some flaws, “Vaarausudu” has some advantages. This typical family drama is given a new spin by director Vamshi Paidipally and the script’s authors. There are couple of moving moments in the film. He has an uncanny ability to make us feel all fuzzy inside. As he also did in “Oopiri,” he does at couple of places in this work.

The first half of the film, however, features TV-serial-like sequences and a romantic subplot that falls flat. The second act of the film is where everything clicks. Some major heroic moments occur in the second half. The climactic sequence is also very well done.

However, at nearly three hours in length, the film never manages to justify its lengthy running time. Many unnecessary scenes and slower parts can be cut out easily.

Vijay is in his element. He’s the film’s main strength and delivers a terrific performance. Sarath Kumar is ideal for the part. Both Srikanth and Shaam are fine. Prakash Raj’s characterisation is not strong enough. Rashmika is mostly seen in songs.

Thaman’s songs and background score are both excellent. The sets and camerawork are reek of richness.

Bottom-line: ‘Vaarasudu,’ is director Vamshi Paidipally’s attempt at a Trivikram-style family drama. However, the results are not rosy. Some funny and emotional scenes in the second half really worked, and Vijay’s performance is another plus. However, it mostly gives ‘see there’ feel, and excruciatingly long runtime mar the proceedings.

అత్యధిక మార్కెట్ ఉన్న హీరోగా..

తమిళ చిత్ర పరిశ్రమలో స్టార్ హీరోగా మంచి గుర్తింపును అందుకున్న విజయ్ కు తెలుగు రాష్ట్రాల్లో కూడా అభిమానులు ఉన్నారు. అలాగే సౌత్ ఇండస్ట్రీలో అందరికంటే ఎక్కువ స్థాయిలో పారితోషికం అందుకున్న హీరోలలో అతను కూడా ఒకడు. ఒక విధంగా సౌత్ లో ఇప్పుడు అత్యధిక మార్కెట్ ఉన్న హీరో కూడా అతనే అని చెప్పవచ్చు. వరుసగా సినిమాలు చేస్తూ ఫుల్ బిజీగా ఉండే విజయ్ తాజాగా మొదటిసారి తెలుగు స్ట్రయిట్ మూవీ చేస్తున్న విషయం తెలిసిందే.

నిర్మాతలుగా దిల్ రాజు, శిరీష్..

కోలీవుడ్ స్టార్ విజయ్ హీరోగా నటించిన తాజా చిత్రమే 'వారసుడు' (తమిళంలో వారిసు). ప్రముఖ టాలీవుడ్ డైరెక్టర్ వంశీ పైడిపల్లి తెరకెక్కించిన ఈ సినిమాలో నేషనల్ క్రష్ రష్మిక మందన్నా హీరోయిన్‌గా నటించింది. ఈ మూవీ శ్రీ వెంకటేశ్వర క్రియేషన్స్, పీవీపీ బ్యానర్లపై దిల్ రాజు, శిరీష్ నిర్మించారు. ఇందులో శరత్‌కుమార్, శ్రీకాంత్, కిక్ శ్యామ్, ప్రభు, ప్రకాశ్ రాజ్, ఖుష్భూ, జయసుధ తదితరులు కీలక పాత్రల్లో నటించారు. ఈ చిత్రానికి ఎస్ థమన్ సంగీతాన్ని అందించాడు.

తెలుగు చిత్రసీమలోని అగ్ర నిర్మాతల్లో ఒకరైన దిల్ రాజు.. తమిళనాట అడుగిడుతూ నిర్మించిన మొదటి సినిమా “వారిసు”. తమిళ సూపర్ స్టార్ విజయ్ కథానాయకుడిగా నటించిన ఈ చిత్రానికి వంశీ పైడిపల్లి దర్శకుడు. క్లీన్ ఫ్యామిలీ ఎంటర్ టైనర్ గా తెరకెక్కిన ఈ చిత్రం తమిళనాడులో జనవరి 11న విడుదల కాగా.. తెలుగు డబ్బింగ్ వెర్షన్ “వారసుడు” నేడు (జనవరి 14) ప్రేక్షకుల ముందుకు వచ్చింది. మరి తెలుగు బృందం పండించిన ఆరవ సెంటిమెంట్ ఎంత వరకు వర్కవుటయ్యిందో చూద్దాం..!!

కథ: రాజేంద్రన్ గ్రూప్ ఆఫ్ ఇండస్ట్రీస్ అధినేత రాజేంద్రన్ (శరత్ కుమార్)కు ముగ్గురు కొడుకులు. జై (శ్రీకాంత్), అజయ్ (శ్యామ్), విజయ్ (విజయ్). ఈ ముగ్గురిలో ఎవర్ని తన తదనంతరం వారసుడిగా ప్రకటిద్దామనే ఆలోచనలో ఉన్న రాజేంద్రన్ కు తాను ఎక్కువ కాలం బ్రతకనని తెలుస్తుంది.

దాంతో.. అప్పటివరకూ ఉన్న తన లెక్కలన్నీ మారిపోతాయి. అనంతరం రాజేంద్రన్ తన కుటుంబాన్ని, కంపెనీని కాపాడుకోవడం కోసం విజయ్ ను ఎందుకు వారసుడిగా ప్రకటించాడు? వారసుడిగా మారిన విజయ్ తన అన్నల మన్ననలు ఎలా అందుకున్నాడు? అనేది “వారసుడు” కథాంశం.

నటీనటుల పనితీరు: సినిమాలో స్పెషాలిటీ ఏంటంటే.. ఏ ఒక్క పాత్ర కూడా కొత్తగా ఉండదు. ఆల్రెడీ మనం పదుల సార్లు చూసేసిన సినిమాలా కనిపించడమే కాక.. పాత్రలు కూడా అదే తరహాలో ఉంటాయి. శరత్ కుమార్ కి తండ్రి పాత్రలు పోషించడం కొత్త కాదు, ఇక శ్రీకాంత్ కు అన్నయ్య పాత్రలో మెప్పించడమూ కొత్త కాదు. రెండో అన్నగా శ్యామ్, తల్లిగా జయసుధ, వదినగా సంగీత.. ఇలా అందరూ ఈ చిత్రంలో పోషించిన పాత్రలను ఇప్పటికే ఒక 50 సినిమాల్లో చేసి ఉంటారు. వాళ్లందరినీ మళ్ళీ అవే పాత్రల్లో చూడడం ప్రేక్షకులకు కూడా పెద్ద కొత్తగా ఏమీ కనిపించదు.

ఇక విజయ్ పోషించిన పాత్ర కూడా కొత్తదేమీ కాదు. అయితే.. అతడి మ్యానరిజమ్స్ మాత్రం కాస్త అలరిస్తాయి. డ్యాన్సుల విషయంలోనూ ఓ మోస్తరుగా ఆకట్టుకున్నాడు. యోగిబాబుతో కామెడీ సన్నివేశాలు ఒక వర్గానికి నచ్చే విధంగా ఉన్నాయి.

రష్మిక రెండు పాటల్లో విజయ్ తో కనిపించి.. మిగతా సినిమా మొత్తం బ్యాగ్రౌండ్ ఆర్టిస్ట్ లా మిన్నకుండిపోయింది. లుక్స్ విషయంలోనూ ఆకట్టుకోలేకపోయింది.

ప్రకాష్ రాజ్ ఇప్పటికే కొన్ని వందలాసార్లు పోషించిన బడా బ్యాడ్ బిజినెస్ మ్యాన్ పాత్రలో ఎప్పట్లానే ఒదిగిపోయాడు.

సాంకేతికవర్గం పనితీరు: కార్తీక్ పళని సినిమాటోగ్రఫీకే సినిమా క్రెడిట్స్ లో అగ్ర తాంబూలం దొరుకుతుంది. ప్రతి సన్నివేశాన్ని ఎంతో క్లాసిక్ గా, దిల్ రాజు పెట్టిన ప్రతి రూపాయి కనిపించే విధంగా తెరకెక్కించాడు. సీజీ వర్క్ విషయంలో ఇంకాస్త జాగ్రత్త తీసుకోవాల్సింది.

తమన్ పాటలు పర్వాలేదనిపించినా.. నేపధ్య సంగీతం మాత్రం ఇప్పటికే చాలాసార్లు విన్న ఫీలింగ్ కలిగించింది. ప్రొడక్షన్ డిజైన్ & ఆర్ట్ డిపార్ట్మెంట్ వర్క్ సినిమాకి మేజర్ ఎస్సెట్. ముఖ్యంగా ఇల్లు సెట్ వర్క్ చాలా బాగుంది.

దర్శకుడు వంశీ పైడిపల్లి.. ఎక్కువ కష్టపడకుండా, తెలుగు, తమిళ భాషల్లో ఇదివరకు సక్సెస్ అయిన ఫ్యామిలీ సెంటిమెంట్ సినిమాలన్నీ కలగలిపి “వారసుడు” కథను రాసేసుకున్నాడు. అయితే.. సినిమాలో ఎక్కువగా వెంకటేష్ నటించిన “లక్ష్మీ” ఛాయలు కనిపించడం తెలుగు వెర్షన్ వరకూ పెద్ద మైనస్. స్క్రీన్ ప్లే దగ్గర నుంచి సీన్ కంపోజిషన్ వరకూ చాలా చోట్ల లక్ష్మి సినిమా గుర్తొస్తుంది. అలాగే.. దర్శకుడిగా “ఊపిరి” చిత్రంతో తనకంటూ ప్రత్యేకమైన మార్క్ సంపాదించుకున్న వంశీ.. “వారసుడు” సినిమాలో ఆ మార్క్ ఎక్కడా కనిపించకుండా లాక్కొచ్చేశాడు.

విశ్లేషణ: చిరంజీవి, బాలకృష్ణలు ఆల్రెడీ సంక్రాంతికి సిస్టర్/బ్రదర్ సెంటిమెంట్ తో కలగలిసిన యాక్షన్ ఎంటర్ టైనర్స్ తో అదరగొడుతున్న తరుణంలో.. బోలెడు తెలుగు సినిమాల రిఫరెన్సులు పుష్కలంగా ఉన్న విజయ్ “వారసుడు” మన ప్రేక్షకుల్ని మెప్పించడం కాస్త కష్టమే.

Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay has been aiming to get market share in Telugu from a longtime. Most of his previous attempts turned futile. Murugadoss’s Thuppakki was his first film that get noticed in Telugu. However, his subsequent films have failed again here. Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Master again gave him some hopes in Telugu. For the first time, Vijay teamed up with Telugu director (Vamshi Paidipally) and Telugu producer (Dil Raju). Interestingly, he opted for a family drama (Vaarasudu/Varisu) contrary to his usual ‘mass’ films. Will Vijay succeed this time and breaks the jinx? Let’s check out Vaarasudu pans out to be.

Rajendran (Sarathkumar) is the king of his business empire – Rajendran Group. His two sons Jay Rajendran (Srikanth) and Ajay Rajendran (Kick Shaam) are his loyalists who drive his company. One among them would be declared as the successor of his business. His third son Vijay Rajendran (Vijay) has huge differences with his father and lives far away from the family chasing his own dreams. Vijay starts his own start-up company. However, circumstances force Vijay to return to the family and take over the family business to fight the mighty JP group’s Jayaprakash (Prakash Raj). The story is how Vijay sustains the company against all the odds and evils.

Performances

Thalapathy Vijay’s role is very superficial. He couldn’t shine despite his stylish performance. Many of his histrionics and trademark style elements in body language and dialogues don’t work. In fact, they put off audiences. He is good in serious and intense scenes. He is good in action scenes. But Vijay’s attempts to make audiences laugh don’t work with mana Telugu folks. It is an absolute disconnect. Rashmika is totally sidelined. Sarathkumar’s role is powerful and the whole story revolves around him. Jayasudha too gets a decent role as mom. Srikanth and Kick Shyam have good roles as Vijay’s brothers. Prakash Raj is shown as a weak villain and businessman who always fails to challenge the protagonist & family. Ganesh Venkatraman is confined to a side role. Yogi Babu’s comedy as a housemaid failed to work. Prabhu as Doctor Anand played the role of Sarathkumar’s best friend. None of the characters have completeness.

Technicalities

Vamshi Paidipally chose a very thin point of family feud that was attempted before several times. He tried to show differences among family members in a top business family and how it impacts their business and family. Neither story nor the screenplay hold strength resulting in a bland family drama. Thaman’s background score is fine. None of the songs are entertaining for Telugu audience. Visuals are appealing. Production values are good, but it is splurge of money on a weak script. Slow paced narration adds to the woes. 

Intention Of Film Father & Mother Sentiment

Story & Screenplay Lack of High Scenes Weak Climax

Right from the start to the end, Vaarasudu is very cinematic and artificial. The film focuses more on the internal conflicts and runs only on tit for tats. But Vijay is ‘mass’ and ‘mass’ is Vijay. Audiences and fans who expect such mass elements from Vijay tend to disappoint due to Vamshi’s toneless film. ‘Amma’ sentiment films and ‘Nanna’ sentiment films have come many. Here Vamshi and Dil Raju wanted to make Bommarillu with superstar like Vijay by changing scenes and treatment and infusing a caproate villain. All this boils down to a routine, dated family drama.

The scenes of tender quotes are all done to death in many of the previous movies. Clearly, the writing team and direction team lack fresh thoughts to project this. The songs and their placements are too forced. They are out of place. The romance with the lead actress Rashmika also look artificial. She just comes and falls for him. The chemistry between lead pair is shown unconvincingly. Thaman’s songs are not entertaining. They have Tamil flavour.

The problem lies with Sarathkumar’s role itself which is portrayed as an emotionless shrewd businessman. He changes/transforms overnight due to a problem. But how could he expect everyone around him to change and adapt to his new characterization. Even Vijay’s character is not fully convincing. It is neither serious nor funny. The protagonist has serious differences with family head and how he ends them is very conveniently portrayed. The ‘Boss Returns’ without much force. The sequence of Vijay going and rescuing his niece is good despite cinematic liberties. This scene helps to change his eldest brother Jay. This is saving grace scene.

While saying one of the dialogues in the second-half protagonist Vijay himself utters this is so weak and says he is waiting for clap-worthy and whistle-worthy scene. This is exactly the feeling of the audiences watching the film in theatres. 

There are many scenes in this lengthy film. But none of them has the required power to give high to viewers. It all goes in a montonous way. The heroic elevation scenes turned out to be flat. The climax portions are rushed and very predictable. The brothers are shown as morons who has muscle but no brains. The screenplay is flat as well. It is a shallow and bland family drama without entertainment. The only blessing in disguise is the intention of the film. It has its soul. But the soul just wanders aimlessly due to lack of body. This Vaarasudu is better to skip.

Verdict: Boring To The Core!

Thalapathy Vijay, who enjoys a good following in Telugu states, has now come up with a family entertainer Vaarasudu. Directed by Vamshi Paidipally, the movie has Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead. The film hit the screens today, and let’s see how it is.

Rajendra (Sarathkumar) is a renowned businessman who wants to hand over his group of companies to one of his sons, played by Shaam and Srikanth. Rajendra also has a third son Vijay Rajendra (Vijay) with whom he has understanding issues. Hence Vijay stays away from the family. When Rajendra is about to decide on his heir, the whole family breaks into parts. When things go out of hand, Vijay takes the responsibility of holding the family together. What did Vijay do? How did he solve the family issues? This forms the rest of the story.

Plus Points:

Thalapathy Vijay is once again in his elements and gave a neat performance. It has been a while since he acted in a proper family drama, and the actor was superb in the film with his one-liners, punch dialogues, and screen presence. His comedy timing worked big time, and Vijay is also stunning in sentimental scenes.

For the most part, the emotions work well and are kept on a lighter note. This part was nicely handled without overdoing them and strikes a chord. Amma song was nicely placed which is the soul of Vaarasudu. There are some good moments placed in both halves and they were nicely used whenever the film became slow. There are a fair amount of elevation scenes for Vijay and a few are whistle worthy.

The fun part is neat and scenes between Vijay and Yogi Babu evoked decent laughs. The boardroom scene that comes in the second half is hilarious and lifts the spirits. There is a big list of artists in the movie like Jayasudha, Sarathkumar, Srikanth, Shaam, and Sangeetha and they were all good in their respective roles.

Minus Points:

The biggest culprit here is the film’s painful length which at times tests the patience levels. The movie is close to three hours which as a whole reduces the overall feel. Due to the excessive length a few good moments in places go unnoticed too. A few unwanted and prolonged sequences are included which weren’t necessary and the movie team could have taken care regarding them.

The movie’s story isn’t new and a few scenes also do remind of other family dramas. The movie runs on a template that has been used several times by now. In addition, the antagonist’s character played by Prakash Raj is poorly written and he doesn’t have much scope to perform.

Few scenes are conveniently written for the protagonist and they seem redundant. Rashmika doesn’t much have to perform and she is just limited to a couple of songs. The drama between Vijay and Sarathkumar is just okay but it could have been way better. The VFX works at places are shoddy.

Technical Aspects:

Dil Raju has spent a huge amount of money on the film, which is reflected in every frame. The production values are magnificent, and the visuals are colorful bringing a festive vibe. Credits to the cinematographer Karthik Palani for making the movie look eye-candy. Music by Thaman is top-notch, and in a few portions, he elevated Vijay with his thumping background score.

The editing as mentioned is below-par and as close to fifteen minutes should have been chopped off. Coming to the director, Vamshi Paidipally, he has played a safe game by taking a formula-based story but he has made sure to place a few entertaining moments in places. But he could have been cautious about the length. Vamshi has presented Vijay in a good manner though.

On the whole, Vaarasudu is a passable family drama that has its moments. Vijay looks good and the way Vamshi elevates the actor will please the fans. The family drama is decent but to enjoy the movie one has to go through its lengthy runtime. The movie hence ends up a passable watch this festive season.

పాడుబడిన భవనం చుట్టూ తిరిగే కథ

స్టాండప్‌ కమెడియన్‌, డాక్టర్‌, సినీ నిర్మాత, ఫొటోగ్రాఫర్‌, ప్రముఖ జ్యోతిషుడు, పోలీసు అధికారి.. ఇలా ఒకరితో ఒకరికి పరిచయం లేని వీరంతా ఎవరో అజ్ఞాతవాసి ఫోన్‌ చేయడం వల్ల ఓ పాడుబడిన భవనానికి వెళ్తారు. అది ఒకప్పుడు పిచ్చాసుపత్రి అని గుర్తించి, అక్కడి వాతావరణం చూసి భయభ్రాంతులకు గురవుతారు. తమకు అదే చివరిరోజు అని ఓ కార్డుపై రాసి పెట్టి ఉంటుంది. దాన్ని చూసి ప్రాణాలు అరచేత పెట్టుకుని అక్కడ నుంచి పారిపోయేందుకు ప్రయత్నిస్తారు. ఆ క్రమంలో ఒకరి తర్వాత అనుమానాస్పదంగా చనిపోతూ ఉంటారు. అదే సమయంలో.. డ్రగ్స్‌కు బానిసైన ఆండ్రీ (వరుణ్‌ సందేశ్‌) ఆ బిల్డింగ్‌లో అడుగుపెడతాడు. అతడి రాకతో చోటుచేసుకున్న పరిణామేంటి? వారిలో కొందరైనా అక్కడి నుంచి బయటపడగలిగారా? ఆ చావుల వెనుక ఉన్నది వ్యక్తా? దెయ్యమా? అసలు వారందరికీ కాల్‌ చేసి, అక్కడికి ఆహ్వానించిందెవరు? ఈ ఆసక్తికర ప్రశ్నలన్నింటికీ సమాధానాలను సినిమా తెలుసుకోవాల్సిందే (Viraaji Review).

వావ్‌ అనిపించే ట్విస్టు..

చెన్నైలో చోటుచేసుకున్న కొన్ని ఘటనల ఆధారంగా ఈ చిత్రాన్ని రూపొందించారు దర్శకుడు హర్ష. థ్రిల్లర్‌ నేపథ్యంతో సందేశాన్ని ఇచ్చే ప్రయత్నం చేశారు. ఒకట్రెండు పాత్రలతో వినోదాత్మకంగా ప్రారంభమైన సినిమా పాడుబడిన భనవం పరిచయం నుంచి థ్రిల్లర్‌ జానర్‌లోకి మారిపోతుంది. పలు రంగాలకు చెందిన అంతమంది ఒక చోటకు చేరుకోవడం వెనుక కారణమేంటి? అనే ఆసక్తిని పెంచుతూ కథ ముందుకెళ్తుంది. అయితే, అన్ని క్యారెక్టర్లు కాకుండా కొన్నింటిని ఎంపిక చేసుకుని ఉంటే బాగుండేది. ప్రతి రోల్‌నూ హైలైట్‌ చేస్తూ.. అవన్నీ భవనానికి ఎందుకు రావాల్సి వచ్చిందో వివరించడానికే ఎక్కువ సమయం పట్టింది. పేరుకే థ్రిల్లింగ్‌ ఎలిమెంట్స్‌ పెట్టినట్టు అనిపిస్తుంది తప్ప అవి ఎలాంటి ప్రభావం చూపవు. ఆ హత్యల వెనుక ఎవరున్నారనే ఉత్కంఠను మరింత పెంచేలా సీన్స్‌ క్రియేట్‌ చేసి ఉంటే బాగుండేది. ఇంటర్వెల్‌కు కొన్ని నిమిషాల ముందు వచ్చే హీరో ఎంట్రీ సీన్‌తో కథ మలుపు తిరుగుతుంది. కథానాయకుడే అదంతా చేస్తున్నాడా? అనిపించేలా తీర్చిదిద్దిన సీన్స్‌ బాగున్నాయి. ఇంటర్వెల్‌ బ్యాంగ్‌ సెకండాఫ్‌పై ఆసక్తి రేకెత్తిస్తుంది (Viraaji Review in Telugu).

ఆండ్రీ పాత్ర ప్రధానంగా ద్వితీయార్ధం సాగుతుంది. వరుణ్‌ సందేశ్‌ ఆహార్యం, హావభావాలు ఆకట్టుకుంటాయి. కథానాయకుడు అక్కడికెందుకు రావాల్సి వచ్చిందో చెప్పే కథ.. స్నేహం విలువ తెలియజేస్తుంది. ఈ స్టోరీలన్నీ తెలిశాక ‘ప్రతి ఒక్కరూ తప్పు చేశారు.. అందుకే అక్కడ అందరికీ శిక్ష పడుతుంది’ అని ప్రేక్షకుడు ఊహించే అవకాశం ఉంది. కానీ, ఊహించని ట్విస్ట్‌తో దర్శకుడు సర్‌ప్రైజ్‌ చేస్తాడు. క్లైమాక్స్‌ ఎమోషనల్‌గా ఉంటుంది.

నటన పరంగా..

ఆండ్రీ రోల్‌లో కొత్త వరుణ్‌ సందేశ్‌ను చూడొచ్చు. ముందునుంచీ మత్తులో మునిగితేలే యువకుడిగా కనిపించిన ఆయన ప్రీ క్లైమాక్స్‌లో మరో రోల్‌తో మెప్పిస్తారు. డాక్టర్‌గా ప్రమోదిని, జ్యోతిష్యుడుగా కారుమంచి రఘు తదితరులు పాత్రకు మేరకు నటించారు. సాంకేతిక విభాగాల్లో నేపథ్య సంగీతానిదే పైచేయి (Viraaji Review).

కుటుంబంతో కలిసి చూడొచ్చా? నిరభ్యంతరంగా చూడొచ్చు. ఎక్కడా అసభ్య సన్నివేశాలు, సంభాషణలు లేవు. నిడివి కూడా తక్కువ (1: 37 గంటలు).

In an effort to regain his momentum after the failure of Liger, Puri Jagannadh decided to create a sequel to iSmart Shankar and successfully persuaded Ram Pothineni to collaborate with him. Let's see if this sequel lives up to the original. Story: Jannath, a girl who has relocated to Hyderabad from Delhi, captivates iSmart Shankar (Ram). In addition to flirting with her, he also has the objective of extraditing mafia don Big Bull (Sanjay Dutt) to India in order to seek vengeance for the murder of his mother, Pochamma (Jhansi). Diagnosed with a brain tumor, Bigg Bull instructs his staff to find a recipient's brain to transfer his memories to. Bigg Bull's concept revolves around achieving immortality and accomplishing his ambitious objective by utilizing someone else's brain. His team is convinced that iSmart Shankar is the most suitable candidate for this memory transfer. Both Bigg Bull and iSmart Shankar are in pursuit of one another. What are the consequences of completing this memory transfer process? Will Shankar be able to seek vengeance or not? Artistes’ Performances: Ram reprises his role as Shankar with equal aplomb. As an actor, Ram fulfills his role and tries to infuse energy into even the duller moments. However, since his characterization is a repetition of the first part, there is no thrill, making it feel like watching iSmart Shankar a second time. Kavya Thapar plays a typical Puri Jagannadh heroine role, primarily serving as a glam show. Sanjay Dutt is well-suited for the role of the Big Bull, with his imposing physique adding to the character. Jhansi and Pragati, both playing mothers, deliver commendable performances. Get Up Srinu functions merely as a sidekick to the hero, while Ali’s comedy is cheap and in poor taste. Technical Excellence: Mani Sharma's music is good. While two of the songs are catchy, they don't have the same foot-tapping appeal as those in the first part. The cinematography and production design are solid for an action movie, but writing lack precision. Highlights: Ram’s efforts Two songs Drawback: Routine narration No peak moments Cheap comedy track involving Ali Analysis When described verbally, the basic concept of "Double iSmart" may seem captivating. The central idea revolves around the hero’s quest for revenge against the villain, who desires to transfer his own memories into the hero's mind. Eventually, the villain achieves this goal, causing the hero to gradually forget his initial quest for vengeance. A more sophisticated narrator could have turned this into a compelling action thriller. However, Puri Jagannadh’s execution raises doubts about the presence of a coherent story in the film. He relies on outdated scenes to sustain the plot, resulting in a storyline that feels like a blend of his previous films such as "Paisa Vasool," "Liger," and "iSmart Shankar." The hero’s vulgar and flirtatious behavior towards the heroine, coupled with his routine of singing, dancing, and fighting, makes the film resemble a typical mass movie from a bygone era rather than a contemporary one. While the songs and Ram's energy manage to keep viewers engaged, the entire first half tests our patience. Additionally, a parallel comedy track featuring Ali raises questions about Puri Jagannadh's intentions. The track, intended to be humorous, fails to evoke laughter and seems disconnected from the story. Ali plays a tribal person from the Amazon who is brought to India for an experiment, using gestures that come off as obscene and cheap. This track highlights that Puri Jagannadh may have run out of fresh ideas for comedy, resorting instead to recycled methods of narration. The film didn't take any interesting turns in second half and towards the climax part. The Lord Shiva ambience and the final portion are forced with no organic flow of events. Overall, "Double iSmart" lacks freshness. While some “mass” moments are acceptable, excessive “mental mass” moments fail to resonate with regular audiences. Despite Ram's energetic performance, the film falls short of the original "iSmart Shankar" and suffers from outdated notions of "mass moments."
