Brunswick Community College (BCC) is located in Bolivia, North Carolina. BCC was established back in 1979 and it now serves around 9700 students. This school is a popular option for students in the area who wish to pursue an associate’s degree. BCC has many transfer partnerships as well, making it easy to transfer credits over to larger four-year schools in the pursuit of bachelor’s degrees. Students will also be able to pursue various professional and technical certificate programs at the school to further their career-based skills. The school is also well known for its athletics department and it offers students many different programs. BCC competes as part of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and offers many men's and women's team sports.

The BCC nursing program offers students either the practical nursing program or the associate’s degree nursing program. Both programs are designed to provide students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and strategies to be effective professionals in a variety of different medical settings. Graduates of either program will be eligible to apply for the corresponding NCLEX licensure exam for the program that they have completed. The BCC practical nursing program even has the distinction of being ranked in the top ten LPN programs in all of North Carolina.

The Nursing program prepares individuals to become registered nurses at the associate degree level. Upon completion of the program, graduates are eligible to take the NCLEX Registered Nurse (RN) licensure examination for entry into practice. The curriculum blends nursing and general education courses to provide a sound theoretical base for nursing practice. Diverse clinical experiences are concurrent with didactic experiences during the four semesters.

Students are required to meet clinical objectives or obtain a course grade of C (76) or better in order to receive a passing grade. In the event of a failure, students may apply for reinstatement/re-admission to the Nursing program only once.

  • Admissions Information
  • Frequently Asked Questions
  • Plan of Study

Students who declare Pre-Nursing are not automatically admitted to the nursing program. Students are admitted to the ABSN nursing program once a year.

Decisions on admission are made by the School of Nursing in the spring for summer admission. The application deadline for summer admission is in January. Admission is highly competitive and not all applicants who meet the minimum criteria for admission can be accommodated.

The ABSN program is a four-semester program that starts in the summer semester and then ends in the following summer semester. All prerequisites and outstanding University Studies requirements must be completed prior to application.

Application Deadlines:

  • Deadline for applying to UNCW
  • You must apply to the university prior to applying to the SON.
  • Must be accepted to UNCW prior to application
  • ATI TEAS test must be complete by January 6, 2025 at 5 p.m.
  • Complete all prerequisites by January 6, 2025
  • Start nursing classes May 2025

MINIMUM APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • BS or BA from an accredited institution
  • Admission to UNCW
  • Combined GPA of 3.0 or higher from all institutions attended
  • Completion of TEAS Assessment
  • BIO 246 (course only; no lab needed)
  • STT 210 or 215 or PSY 225 or QMM 280
  • Completion of all University Studies requirements
  • Describe your interest in the ABSN program.
  • Describe how will the UNCW ABSN program help you achieve your goals.
  • How will the ABSN program enable you to positively impact communities in SE North Carolina?
  • The video must be no longer than two minutes.
  • The expectation is that this will be a "professional" presentation (as if presenting for an interview).
  • The video and audio should have no background distractions that limit or restrict full attention such as music, pets, children, etc.
  • Lighting should be bright enough that you can be clearly seen.
  • Employment, education and volunteer experience, including dates
  • Research and/or health related experiences with dates
  • List transferable skills
  • Includes dates
  • Save Resume titled “Name ABSN Resume" (ex: Smith ABSN Resume).
  • Save as a PDF file.

ADMISSIONS SCORE CALCULATIONS

Scores are calculated based on four elements*:

  • All Math/Science prerequisite courses must be completed within 10 years prior to application.
  • You must complete the TEAS assessment within a testing period, and UNCW Testing Services must receive your TEAS score via ATI Testing prior to the application deadline.
  • Score on Video Interview- 15%
  • Score on Resume - 10%

*When reviewing the course list above, a class with '/L' is requiring a lab, totaling four credits, to be considered for admission.

COURSE REPEAT POLICY

GPA will be calculated based on all completed courses. Students may repeat all prerequisite courses, regardless of first grade earned. The highest grade will be used in the evaluation of the application.

For courses with multiple options in a category, students may repeat all courses in that category once and the highest grade will be used in the evaluation of the application.

TAKING HIGHER LEVEL COURSES

Students are not permitted to take a higher-level course and substitute it for one of the prerequisite courses. For example, if a student has taken CHM 102, the course will not be evaluated because it is not one of the required prerequisites.

The only exception is BIO 330 or BIO 425 can be substituted for BIO 246, as they are both Microbiology courses.

AP AND CLEP CREDIT

AP and CLEP Credit are not used in the evaluation of applications. Students will get credit for the course, but their score will not affect their standing. At least one course in each category (Math/Science prerequisites and Non- Math/Science prerequisites) must be completed for a grade in order to be evaluated for admission potential.

Once a student has earned a grade in a course, they cannot later CLEP in order to nullify the grade.

PASS/FAIL COURSES

A Pass will be calculated in application scoring in a similar way as AP and CLEP: students will receive credit for completing the course as a Pass, but the Pass will not be calculated into the total score. At least one course in each category (Math/Science prerequisites and Non-Math/Science prerequisites) must be completed for a grade in order to be evaluated for admission potential. If a student is repeating a prerequisite course and chooses to take a Pass , the previous grade will be used on the application, not the Pass. Courses taken as a Fail , or any grades below a C in pre-requisite coursework, will disqualify the applicant from applying.

10 YEAR RULE FOR MATH/SCIENCE PREREQUISITE COURSES

Math/Science prerequisite courses must have been completed within 10 years of the application deadline. If any course is older than 10 years, students must retake/audit those courses.

Specific Dates:

  • January 6, 2025 application deadline : Any courses taken before spring 2015 and prior are not valid.

TAKING THE TEAS TEST OUTSIDE OF UNCW

If a student chooses to take the TEAS Test at another testing center, it is the student's responsibility to ensure that they are taking the correct version of the TEAS Test and that UNCW receives their official scores via ATI Testing prior to the end of the test administration period.

The student will need to go to the ATI Store (online store) and request their transcript. UNCW will be in the drop-down menu on the website (online store) when they select TEAS Transcript.

Updated: 6/19/2024

GETTING ADMITTED

  • A total of 24 students will be conditionally admitted to the ABSN program. An additional six students will be placed on the alternate list and will be notified of their rank on the alternate list.
  • If any admitted students decline their admission to the program, the next student on the alternate list will be notified as soon as possible of acceptance into the program. The remaining students will then be notified of their rank on the alternate list.

COVID-19 (Updated 12/20/2022)

As the healthcare environment continues to evolve, we work with our clinical agency partners to provide the best learning opportunities for Nursing & Health Sciences students. Our healthcare partner agencies have specific health and background check requirements for all students that engage in practicum experiences at their facilities. It is important to understand that clinical agencies may update health requirements at any time and as of this date, many clinical agencies to which NHS program students are assigned require COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of engaging in clinical activities at their facilities. Additionally, at this time, some clinical agencies allow for medical or religious exemptions and some do not. All students must meet the onboarding requirements of the clinical agencies to which they are assigned. Inability to meet onboarding requirements may result in an inability to successfully complete practicum courses. For further questions, consult with your NHS academic advisor.

We do not have a program that is labeled “Accelerated”.  Students with previous degrees still follow the 4-semester Pre-Licensure BSN curriculum plan.  Classes from earlier academic degrees are evaluated at the time of application to the college; students may meet general education core requirements as a result.

Regardless of time passed, your previous grades are part of your permanent academic transcript and will be factored into your cumulative college GPA. The minimum is 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) and ineligible GPAs may be considered on a case by case basis. Please see your advisor for questions. If you don't have an advisor, please contact us at [email protected] . For questions about repeated prerequisite grades, only the most recent attempt is counted in the Science GPA.

Of course! However, the requirements for foreign students entering US colleges are sometimes difficult to meet. It is recommended that you talk directly with the   Office of International Programs .

Please review our requirements for minimum English language proficiency . These tests must have been taken within two years of application. Additionally, if you have taken college or university courses in a country other than the United States, the courses have to be carefully evaluated by an outside agency for transfer to our college.

No. The college does not presently set limits on the “age” of past coursework (sciences and/or general education core).  However, it is your responsibility to carefully evaluate your knowledge from these older classes.  It may be more difficult to be successful in courses that rely on past knowledge that is not recent.

switch-group#toggleState afterToggle->collapsible-panels#afterToggle" aria-controls="js-collapsible-2f5837c8-a695-48f7-9501-9094163f67e8-5"> Can I complete this track online? exit--solid

No. The Pre-Licensure track requires students to live in proximity to the Lewiston campus and expects you to be present 4-5 days/week (excluding clinical days.) Students living outside of the Lewiston/Clarkston Valley are still expected to meet attendance requirements.

Pre-licensure graduates of the BSN program are eligible to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN®), the national licensure exam for Registered Nurses. To be licensed as a Registered Nurse, graduates must successfully pass the NCLEX-RN® and apply for licensure directly to a state Board of Nursing. Candidates for licensure must meet individual state requirements. LC State BSN graduates consistently demonstrate NCLEX® success, with recent pass rates of 96% for first-time test-takers (recent national averages 87-89%.)

Lewis-Clark State College is approved by the Washington State Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission for pre-licensure students to be eligible to seek licensure as a nurse technician in Washington State.

CEI is proud to offer quality nursing education and a variety of affordable pathways in this high demand health profession. Students will expand their skills and knowledge in all areas of nursing with a focus on critical thinking and preparation to provide independent and holistic quality nursing care. With competitive salary, job stability and a personal impact on the lives of patients, nursing can be an enjoyable career.

There are three program options for the Registered Nursing Degree.

  • A full-time option that has classes during the day as well as clinical. This is a four-semester program with summers off. Apllication deadline is October 1 st at midnight for Spring Semester start and March 1 st at midnight for Fall semester start.   We admit 30 students in the spring and fall each year.
  • An alternative schedule option that has classes in the evening. Most clinical/simulation experiences will be administered during the day, but there may be some in the evenings and on the weekend. This is a six-semester program completed in 24 months including summer semesters.  Application deadline is October 1st for a spring semester start.  We admit one cohort of 30 students per year.

A Bridge Licensed Practical Nurse to Registered Nursing (PN-RN) option.   The application deadline is March 1st for a summer semester start.  We admit one cohort of 30 students per year. There are two pathways to enroll in this option:

The first pathway is open to LPN students currently enrolled in, or recently completing CEI’s LPN program. These students may apply for the PN-RN Bridge program as early as the semester before graduating from their LPN program. Students applying through this first pathway must pass their NCLEX exam and submit their grades and ATI test scores from the PN program as part of the application process.  Additionally, they will be required to fulfill the 1800 hours of work experience as a PN prior to graduation from this bridge program with their ADN. They must provide a plan detailing how they intend to finish these hours prior to the scheduled graduation date.  Half of the slots will be reserved for students pursuing this first pathway.

The second pathway is for LPNs who have been out of school for more than one semester, and/or who are currently working with their LPN license in the community.  This second pathway requires a minimum of 1800 hours of recent work experience as a Practical Nurse prior to applying to this program and an ATI PN comprehensive indicator with a predictability score of 80% or higher taken within 12 months of the application deadline.

For more information on the three options please refer to the nursing department website.
