When it comes to business phone plans, Verizon stands out as one of the best options around. Filled with features, backed by some excellent coverage and heavy on the discounts for added lines, there's a lot to like about what Verizon has to offer.

As with standard Verizon phone plans , the best Verizon business phone plans won't be the cheapest option. But if you're looking to stack up on lines, you could end up with some pretty affordable prices for your business.

Verizon keeps things simple, offering just three cell phone plans in its business section. All three options offer unlimited data, calls and texts; the more you pay, the more features that get chucked in.

These extras include security features, mobile hotspots, more advanced 5G and priority data. Verizon also offers business phone deals and 5G internet service. In some cases, Verizon business phone plans can also get you discounts on tablets and phones when you sign up for different plans.

What Verizon business phone plans are available?

The choice in Verizon business phone plans is pretty simple: You can choose between three options, all with unlimited data — Unlimited Start, Unlimited Plus or Unlimited Pro. You can stack the plans up for added discounts with the price falling by $5 per line the more you add.

Verizon Business Unlimited Start Verizon's cheapest business plan, the Unlimited Start offer, features unlimited calls, texts and data with 5G nationwide and 4G LTE. While you do get unlimited calls, texts and data, the plan is otherwise pretty limited. A Call Filter is included for screening potential spam), but you won't get mobile hotspot data or access to Verizon's faster Ultra Wideband 5G network.

Verizon Business Unlimited Plus Jumping up in cost, the Unlimited Plus plan sits in the middle of the Verizon business phone plan offerings, blending features and affordability. You'll get the same basics as the above plan — unlimited calls, texts and data — but you'll also get 60GB of premium network access, giving you priority when there is congestion. You'll also get a unlimited mobile hotspot, access to Verizon's 5G Ultra Wideband and, enhanced security features with Verizon's Business Mobile Secure .

Verizon Business Unlimited Pro Finally, Verizon's most expensive business plan — the Unlimited Pro. This plan, just like the two above, includes unlimited calls, texts and data, but it brings your premium data up to 120GB. Other than that, this is almost identical to the Plus plan above with the only other difference being that you can also get 50% off Business Unlimited Pro Tablet plans.

Why choose Verizon?

As the biggest carrier in the U.S., Verizon has the infrastructure, speeds and connections to offer impressive wireless performance. It takes the number 2 spot in our best phone carriers guide and for good reason.

While Verizon has some pretty pricey plans, that's in part because Verizon offerings tend to be packed full of features across all of its plans, including its business options.

Through our tests, Verizon has come out on top for LTE speeds and its Ultra Wideband 5G connections reach more than 80 cities, capable of reaching 1 Gbps download speeds. Verizon's nationwide 5G network isn't that fast, but it does bring coverage to 230 million people.

Among the features included with Verizon business phone plans are Call Filters, enhanced security features and the possibility of additional plans for devices and internet service.

Which other carriers offer business plans?

While Verizon does have some of the best business plans around, it isn't the only provider catering to businesses. The other two major wireless services and many MVNOs offer business plans in some form, some focusing on affordability and others on features.

Like Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile put their priority on feature-filled business plans...at a high cost. With unlimited data, add-ons and a host of features around data prioritization, these are the options if you've got a bit more budget in your business.

Alternatively, if you're looking for something more affordable, a number of MVNOs offer plans that will work well for a business. Mint Mobile for example is one of the cheapest providers in the US and while it doesn't offer specific business discounts, it will likely be the cheapest option for smaller businesses; just don't expect discounts on multiple lines like you'd find with Verizon business phone plans.

This Is How Long Verizon's CEO Says Customers Are Waiting to Upgrade Their Phones

A lack of phone upgrades has been weighing on Verizon's growth, but that could soon change.

A big problem for telecom companies such as Verizon Communications ( VZ 1.42% ) these days is that consumers aren't rushing to upgrade their phones. At a time when inflation is forcing people to stretch their budgets, one easy way to keep costs down is to resist the urge to upgrade a cellphone that's working fine, and to avoid potentially having to take on a more expensive phone plan as well.

Here's how long consumers are waiting to upgrade their phones, and why that could soon change.

Consumers are holding on to their phones for longer than 36 months

Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg said in a recent interview with CNBC that its current customer holds on to their phone for "way over 36 months," compared to in the past, when it was normal to change a phone every year. The company offers promotions for 36 months to help pay for a new phone, but Vestberg's statement suggests that consumers are keeping them even after the promo period ends.

While Verizon did increase the length of its payment terms a couple of years ago, it's still possible for customers to pay off a phone early. The long period consumers are going through before upgrading their phone is indicative of both the current economic conditions and the lack of urgency to upgrade; consumers aren't seeing an incentive to upgrade early, even perhaps after their phone is fully paid off.

Why an upgrade cycle could be coming soon

Although the economic situation may not be improving soon with fears of a recession rising, there could at least be an incentive for customers to upgrade their phones soon.

Apple is launching new phones with artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities that could give consumers the incentive they finally need to upgrade their phones sooner rather than later. Even though some of Apple's new AI features may not be coming until next year, users will need to upgrade to the latest, most powerful iPhones to be able to take advantage of them, including image generation and a more advanced assistant.

Critics believe that Apple is doing this to force customers into upgrading, triggering what some are calling a potential upgrade "supercycle." Not only could Apple benefit from more upgrades, but that would also be welcome news for Verizon and other telecom companies that would lock customers into new contracts and plans.

In Verizon's most recent quarter, which ended in June, its total operating revenue of $32.8 billion rose by just 0.6% year over year, with the company blaming a part of that on "lower upgrade volumes."

Should you buy Verizon's stock?

An upgrade cycle, or a "supercycle," could be just what Verizon's business needs for its growth rate to accelerate and for it to attract some much-needed attention from investors. Over the past three years, the stock has fallen by 28%, making it an underwhelming investment overall. As investors have focused on growth stocks , Verizon has simply fallen out of favor in the market.

But with a high dividend yield at 6.5% and a potential catalyst on the way for its top line, now may be an optimal time to add Verizon to your portfolio, potentially before its growth rate improves and before it lands on the radars of investors who may have been waiting for more of a reason to invest in the stock. Although Verizon may not be a high-powered growth machine, it can make for a solid income stock to buy and hold for the long haul.

Verizon  provides some of the most reliable wireless coverage for smartphones , but it's also the most costly carrier in the United States. If Verizon's plans have gotten too expensive, someone isn't happy with the service, or anything else in between, knowing how to cancel a subscription with the company and move on to something else is a must.

Founded in 1983, Verizon has long been one of the most recognizable wireless providers in the U.S — largely because it tends to work just about everywhere in the country. While Verizon's coverage lead isn't quite as large as it used to be, it's still one of the better carrier choices out there. The only problem, however, is that Verizon isn't cheap. The company's baseline plan, Start Unlimited, costs $70/month for one service line and includes very few perks outside of the standard unlimited talk, text, and data. For folks that want to go all the way with the Get More Unlimited plan, they'll be paying $90/month for one line — and that's before additional taxes/fees. It's not difficult to find similar plans for less money, and when someone eventually does, there's a certain way Verizon expects people to say goodbye.

Per Verizon's website , customers that want to cancel their service will need to call the Verizon Customer Service line at 1-800-922-0204. While many subscriptions these days can be canceled through an online account page or by using a company's chat feature , Verizon doesn't allow this. It's inconvenient, sure, but it's also an important safety measure to ensure accounts can only be canceled by the people that actually own them.

Things To Know Before Canceling Your Verizon Plan

Before making the call and getting into the nitty-gritty, there are a few tips to keep in mind that'll help the cancellation process go as smoothly as can be. For starters, only the account owner or a designated account manager is allowed to make a cancellation request. Anyone else on the plan won't be allowed to do so, so be sure the right person makes the call. Additionally, Verizon recommends having a few bits of information at the ready to make the process as seamless as possible. This includes the account owner's name, the associated phone number , and either the account PIN or the account owner's social security number.

After the account owner has called Verizon and made the cancellation, phone service won't stop immediately. Instead, it'll continue to be active until the last day of the billing period. If someone cancels Verizon on May 5, but the end of their billing period isn't until May 30, their service will keep working like normal until May 30. For people that have a phone under a payment plan through Verizon, any remaining balance will become due  "on your next bill after disconnecting."  To pay any remaining bills after canceling Verizon, there's a special 'Disconnected Accounts' page where that can be done.

People should also think about what they want to do with their phone number . Verizon will port people's numbers over to just about any other carrier, but the steps for which this is done varies from company to company. For example, transferring a Verizon number to T-Mobile will be different than taking it to AT&T. As such, it's best to talk with the new carrier to see how the process works. If someone cancels Verizon and doesn't transfer their number, Verizon says it will reassign it to another customer  "no sooner than 45 days."  Not porting a number over to a different carrier is fine, but people should make sure to give contacts their new phone number as not to accidentally call or text someone else. Canceling any phone service plan can be tricky, but at the very least, these tips will help it be just a little less stressful.

NASA Says Boeing Starliner Astronauts May Fly Home on SpaceX in 2025

The agency had insisted for a couple of months that it was confident that Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore would return on Starliner.

For weeks, NASA has downplayed problems experienced by Starliner, a Boeing spacecraft that took two astronauts to the International Space Station in June.

But on Wednesday, NASA officials admitted that the issues might be more serious than first thought and that the astronauts might not return on the Boeing vehicle, after all.

The agency is exploring a backup option for the astronauts, Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore, to instead hitch a ride back to Earth on a spacecraft built by Boeing’s competitor SpaceX.

The astronauts’ stay in orbit, which was to be as short as eight days, could be extended into next year.

“We could take either path,” Ken Bowersox, NASA’s associate administrator for the space operations mission directorate, said during a news conference on Wednesday. “And reasonable people could pick either path.”

The announcement adds more headaches and embarrassment for Boeing, an aerospace giant that has billions of dollars of aerospace contracts with the federal government and builds commercial jets that fly all around the world.

What Borrowers Should Know As Biden’s Student Loan Forgiveness Goes To Supreme Court—Again

Some federal student loan borrowers’ payments are now on pause while a court battle plays out over the Biden administration’s latest student loan forgiveness plan, with a recent court ruling pausing all forgiveness entirely—and the Supreme Court is now considering two different lawsuits over the program’s fate.

Republicans sued the Biden administration over its Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) plan , an income-driven repayment plan that lowers the percentage of their monthly income that borrowers pay, allows borrowers’ debt to be forgiven sooner, and makes it possible for more borrowers to pay $0 per month.

The SAVE plan sparked two separate but similar lawsuits from GOP-led states, one filed in Kansas by attorneys general in multiple states (Alaska v. Department of Education) and the other filed in Missouri (Missouri v. Department of Education), arguing the sweeping relief it provides is “unlawful” and imposes a financial burden on states.

Alaska v. Department of Education: A district court blocked part of the SAVE plan from taking effect, but the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals then opposed that ruling and said the plan could take effect while the court battle continues—prompting GOP-led states to take the case to the Supreme Court, asking the court to pause parts of the program while the litigation plays out.

Missouri v. Department of Education: A district court similarly paused only one part of the SAVE plan, but the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals then blocked the program entirely, ruling Friday the government can’t provide any relief through the SAVE plan until the 8th Circuit or the Supreme Court rules otherwise—which led the Biden administration to ask the Supreme Court Tuesday to throw out the 8th Circuit’s decision.

Texas—one of the states involved with the Kansas lawsuit—filed a letter at the Supreme Court on Saturday, noting that the 8th Circuit’s ruling pausing the SAVE program entirely makes their previous request irrelevant, but they now want the Supreme Court to either order the Missouri district court to throw out the SAVE plan entirely, or accept the case for oral arguments, which means the high court would decide whether or not it’s lawful.

The Biden administration’s request to the Supreme Court in the Missouri case asks the high court to throw out the 8th Circuit’s ruling and let the SAVE plan take effect while litigation plays out, or take up the case for oral arguments, and it remains to be seen how the Supreme Court will navigate the two separate legal disputes.

What Does This Mean For Borrowers?

The Department of Education said Monday borrowers in the program will have their loans put in forbearance—meaning they’ll be on pause and borrowers won’t have to pay—while the court dispute plays out. Borrowers whose loans are paused won’t accrue interest while they’re in forbearance, according to the Education Department. Any time spent in forbearance also won’t count toward loan forgiveness on income-driven repayment plans or for public servants. SAVE plan borrowers who have already received a bill for August are still being put in forbearance, which means paying it isn’t required, the agency noted, and borrowers who haven’t yet received a bill for August won’t receive one. The Education Department said it will provide “regular updates” to borrowers on the court dispute.

What Is The Save Plan?

The Biden administration first announced the SAVE plan in August 2023, replacing the previous Revised Pay-As-You-Earn (REPAYE) plan. While previous plans allowed borrowers’ debt to be forgiven after 20 or 25 years of making payments, the SAVE plan cut that down to 10 years for anyone who owed $12,000 or less, with one year added per $1,000 owed (up to a maximum of 20 or 25 years, depending on the kind of loan). It also reduced undergraduate loan payments to 5% of a borrower’s monthly income, down from 10%; reduced accrued interest on payments and raised the salary minimum for when a borrower has to make monthly payments. Under the new plan, anyone whose income is less than 225% of the poverty line qualified for $0 monthly payments, versus 150% previously. The White House justified the changes under federal rules that say income-driven repayment plans “shall require payments that vary in relation to the appropriate portion of the annual income of the borrower … as determined by the [Education] Secretary.”

What To Watch For

Borrowers’ loans will remain in forbearance for now while the court battles play out. It’s unclear when the Supreme Court could rule on either of the requests from Texas and the Biden administration. If it takes up the dispute over the SAVE plan, the cases would be heard during the court’s next term, which begins in October, and the court would release its opinion sometime before the term ends in June 2025.

What We Don’t Know

How far the 8th Circuit’s ruling goes when it comes to student loan forgiveness. The ruling blocking the SAVE plan broadly bars the government from providing “any further forgiveness of principal or interest” for loans covered by income-driven repayment rules or the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) program. The Biden administration asked the 8th Circuit Tuesday to clarify what exactly that means in practice, since it could affect student loan programs outside of the SAVE plan that aren’t at issue in the lawsuit. The government asked the court to respond to its request by Friday.

Chief Critic

The 8th Circuit’s Friday ruling blocking the SAVE plan “rejects a practice of providing loan forgiveness that goes back 30 years,” Education Secretary Miguel Cardona said in a statement Monday. “It’s shameful that politically motivated lawsuits waged by Republican elected officials are once again standing in the way of lower payments for millions of borrowers.”

More than 8 million. That’s the number of federal student loan borrowers who were already enrolled in the SAVE plan as of July, according to the Biden administration. It noted that any uncertainty over the plan is also likely to affect other borrowers with income-driven repayment plans, however—and that surges in borrowers asking for clarification about their student loan plans has often led to student loan servicers suffering widespread “breakdowns” that affect all borrowers.

The SAVE program is separate from a different student loan forgiveness plan the Biden administration announced in April, which would affect borrowers who now owe more than they started with, borrowers who have been paying undergraduate loans for more than 20 years and those who are eligible for existing forgiveness programs but never applied for them. The Biden administration said it would start sending out emails to borrowers in July about that plan, but it still has to be finalized, and it’s unclear what the final version will look like. It also remains unclear how that could be affected by the ongoing court dispute over the SAVE plan, since the 8th Circuit’s Friday ruling broadly blocks the government from providing “any further forgiveness of principal or interest” for loans covered by income-driven repayment rules or the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) program.

The Biden administration has put a strong emphasis on student loan forgiveness, responding to widespread calls on the left for debt relief — even as President Joe Biden hasn’t gone as far as other Democrats who want full loan forgiveness. Biden initially announced widespread loan forgiveness that would forgive up to $20,000 in loans for all federal borrowers making up to $125,000 per year, but Republicans opposed the plan in court. The Supreme Court ultimately struck the plan down in June 2023, ruling the Biden administration had exceeded its authority in implementing the forgiveness program. The Biden administration has opted for more piecemeal approaches to loan forgiveness since then in response, providing more than $168 million in relief as a result, the Education Department reported in July.

From Paris to Los Angeles: How the city is preparing for the 2028 Olympics

Paris closed out two and a-half extraordinary weeks of Olympic sports and emotion with a boisterous, star-studded show in France’s national stadium on Sunday, handing over hosting duties for the Summer Games to the next city in line: Los Angeles in 2028.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — It’s Los Angeles’ turn for the torch. Mayor Karen Bass accepted the Olympic flag at the Paris closing ceremony Sunday, before handing it off to a key representative of LA’s local business — Tom Cruise — who in a pre-recorded trek via motorcycle, plane and parachute kicked off the countdown to 2028.

The city will become the third in the world to host the games three times as it adds to the storied years of 1932 and 1984. Here’s a look forward and back in time at the Olympics in LA.

LA’s Olympic trilogy

Los Angeles got the 2028 games as a consolation prize when Paris was picked for 2024.

Back in 1932, LA hosted its first Olympics . The city was the only bidder for the games at a time marred by the Great Depression and the absence of several nations. Yet memorable sport moments came from athletes including American athlete Babe Didrikson Zaharias, who won golds in the new women’s events of javelin and hurdles.

Financial and cultural success gave 1984 a reputation as the “good” Olympics” which made seemingly every major world city want their own.

Emphasizing both the modern and the classical with a hand from Hollywood, the games opened with decathlon champion Rafer Johnson lighting the torch, a guy in a jetpack descending into the Memorial Coliseum and theme music by “Star Wars” maestro John Williams .

With Eastern Bloc countries boycotting, the U.S. dominated. Carl Lewis and Mary Lou Retton are among the athletes who became household names. A young Michael Jordan led the men’s basketball team to gold.

The games renewed, for a while, the global reputation of a city that had been perceived to be in decline.

“We want our games to be a modern games, youthful, full of the optimism that Southern California brings to the world and the globe,” Janet Evans, four-time Olympic gold medalist in swimming and chief athlete officer for the LA 2028 organizing committee, told The Associated Press in Paris.

Bass, who returned to LA Monday, said one of the biggest takeaways was the way Paris organizers made the “Olympics for everyone, whether you participated in the games or not.”

She gave examples of watch parties held in surrounding cities and breakdancing classes before the competitions.

Joining her were LA28 Chairperson Casey Wasserman, an entertainment executive, and LA councilmember Traci Park, chair of the city Olympic committee.

City council president Paul Krekorian, who joined Bass in bringing the Olympic flag to LA, said they were “going to make this the only city in the world who have ever had three financially successful Olympic Games.”

Venues old and new, plus a swimming stadium

Amid a stadium-and-arena boom, LA will polish existing structures rather than erect new ones.

“It’s a no-build games,” Evans said.

After Paris’ innovative opening ceremony on the Seine River, LA plans to open with a traditional, stadium-based approach at SoFi Stadium in neighboring Inglewood that also incorporates the century-old Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles itself.

Home to two NFL teams, SoFi has hosted a Super Bowl and several Taylor Swift concerts since opening in 2020. It will become what organizers say is the largest Olympic swimming venue ever. Its opening ceremony role means swimming will come after track and field for the first time since 1972.

Intuit Dome, the soon-to-open Inglewood home of the NBA’s Clippers, would be the games’ newest major venue and is the planned home for Olympic basketball. The Lakers’ downtown Crypto.com Arena will host gymnastics.

The toxicity of swimming in the Seine became a serious issue in Paris. That could put renewed focus on the Long Beach area waterfront when it hosts marathon swimming and triathlon races. Its cleanliness history is mixed but its ocean waters got consistently high marks in a 2023 analysis by nonprofit Heal the Bay.

The Long Beach shore was home to the pre-recorded performances during Sunday’s ceremony of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, though it was easy to mistake for LA’s Venice Beach, where the journey of the flag begun by Cruise was shown ending moments earlier.

Trains, buses and traffic

A city that’s notoriously hard to traverse may seem like an odd fit for the Olympics, but it can work.

Bass said she plans to emulate the tactics of Tom Bradley, the mayor in 1984, whose traffic mitigations had some saying it was better than at non-Olympic times. They include asking local businesses to stagger workforce hours to reduce the number of cars on the road and allow work from home during the 17-day games.

Landing the Olympics under then-Mayor Eric Garcetti in 2017 gave the city an unusually long lead time for planning.

While it’s no Paris Metro, LA has built a subway since its last Olympics, with lines running past major venues.

In 2018, the city planned an ambitious slate of 28 bus and rail projects to transform public transit. Some were scrapped but others moved forward, including the extension of a subway line to connect downtown Los Angeles with UCLA, the planned home of the Olympic Village.

Another high-profile project is the Inglewood People Mover, an automated, three-stop rail line past major Olympic venues. It initially received a commitment of $1 billion in federal funding, but opposition from Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters led to a $200 million reduction, the Los Angeles Times reported . It’s unclear whether the line will be completed by 2028.

Metro recently received $900 million in funding through an infrastructure spending package and grants from the Biden administration, of which $139 million will go directly toward improving transportation by 2028 and the goal of a “car-free” Olympics.

“The biggest challenge is not waiting to 2028, but really taking the opportunity between now and 2028 to help Angelenos and visitors alike reimagine the transportation network as something that will be their first choice,” Metro CEO Stephanie Wiggins said.

Crime, safety and perception

While crime rates were considerably higher in 1984 than today, the countdown to 2028 comes as the issue has gotten increased attention and cast a social-media-amplified shadow.

The Olympics are designated as a national special security event, which makes the U.S. Secret Service the lead agency tasked with developing a security plan, supported by significant federal resources.

LA city and county law enforcement sent officers to Paris to observe, learn and assist as they prepare for their own 2028 games.

There are many more encampments on city streets than there were in 1984, and it’s unlikely LA will have solved its homeless crisis in the next four years. As the Paris games ended, California Gov. Gavin Newsom threatened to withhold funding from cities unable to clear encampments.

Ahead of the Games in Paris, organizers relocated thousands of unhoused people , a practice also used for the 2016 Rio de Janiero games and criticized by activists as “social cleansing.”

Tourists and finances

LA is the “next logical destination” for the Olympics, said Adam Burke, president and CEO of the LA Tourism and Convention Board. “LA has emerged as really one of the world’s sports capitals.”

First though, the city will host a FIFA World Cup event and U.S. Women’s Open in 2026 and another Super Bowl in 2027.

The city’s hotel industry has continued to see growth, adding 9,000 new hotel rooms in the past four years with more to come over the next four.

LA28 organizers are banking on ticket sales, sponsorships, payments from the International Olympic Committee and other revenue streams to cover the games’ $6.9 billion budget. The committee has brought in just over $1 billion toward a goal of $2.5 billion in domestic corporate sponsorships.
