The Journal of International Medical Research is a peer-reviewed, open access journal which focuses on original clinical and preclinical research, systematic and perspective reviews, meta-analyses, and case reports, with every article accepted by peer review given a full technical edit to make all papers highly accessible to the international medical community. The journal will be of particular interest to authors from countries where English is not the first language. We are looking for research that adds to the existing literature and shows innovation and relevancy. Authors must follow EQUATOR Network reporting guidelines for any manuscript they wish to submit to the journal. Authors must also follow our publishing policies .

You are free to submit a manuscript on your area of research at any time. We also have lists of Special Topics and Special Collections for you to consider.

The journal takes pride in the quality of its rigorous peer review, editing and publishing service, and in ensuring that articles are thoroughly checked to eliminate unethical publishing and any errors in content, formatting, presentation, typography and layout:

Rigorous peer review: All manuscripts are subjected to single-blind peer review with comments required from at least two independent peer reviewers and ultimate decisions made by the Editors.

Thorough technical edit: Accepted manuscripts receive an in-depth technical edit to make sure the content is understood and accepted by the medical community worldwide. This editing stage makes the journal particularly appealing to authors where English is not their first language.

Free-to-view articles: Once the technical edit queries have been answered to the satisfaction of the journal, your paper will be published and made available freely to anyone on our website and on PubMed Central under a creative commons licence.

Prestigious indexing: The journal is indexed by PubMed: MEDLINE and by Scopus and is ranked in the Clarivate Analytics: Science Citation Index ®

Approximately 30,000 records are included in the PubMed journal list which is updated daily and includes all MEDLINE® titles as well as other non-MEDLINE titles in PubMed . The PubMed journal list covers the entire span of MEDLINE, not just currently indexed journals. The non-MEDLINE journals include those whose content is deposited in PMC (PubMed Central) . PMC is also the repository for author manuscripts that are required under the NIH Public Access Policy to be deposited when the research is funded by NIH. Certain other government agencies or funding organizations use PMC for their Public Access Policy requirements as well.

NLM creates a cataloging record for every journal with a full text article in PMC. Therefore, while most MEDLINE journals over the years have citations for all substantive content published, some of the non-MEDLINE journals may contribute far fewer citations over the years.

A few notes about the PubMed journal list:

  • The list is offered in different formats; see: How do I know if my journal is indexed in MEDLINE/PubMed?
  • The records are not in alphabetical order.
  • The JrId is a sequential identifier number for the journals that appear in various NCBI databases; therefore, the PubMed journal list has gaps in the JrID range. The bottom JrID number does not equal the total number of records in the file.
  • Full journal title names may contain initial grammar articles (e.g., The, An, A) which may affect use of these data for searching and filing purposes.
  • The NlmId is the accession number for the journal cataloging record in the NLM bibliographic database. LocatorPlus and the NLM Catalog on the NCBI Entrez system are public interfaces to NLM bibliographic data.
  • MedAbbr is a short form of the full journal title; it is assigned whether the title is a MEDLINE journal or not.
  • ISO Abbreviations are constructed at NLM to assist NCBI in linking from GenBank to PubMed.

Sample Entries:

  • Number of Titles Currently Indexed for Index Medicus® and MEDLINE® on PubMed®
  • FAQ: Finding NLM Serials Data and MEDLINE Indexed Journals
  • Other FTP journal lists offered by NCBI: How do I know if my journal is indexed in MEDLINE/PubMed?

A protein consists of amino acids (AA) linked by peptide bonds. Dietary protein is hydrolyzed by proteases and peptidases to generate AA, dipeptides, and tripeptides in the lumen of the gastrointestinal tract. These digestion products are utilized by bacteria in the small intestine or absorbed into enterocytes. AA that are not degraded by the small intestine enter the portal vein for protein synthesis in skeletal muscle and other tissues. AA are also used for cell-specific production of low-molecular-weight metabolites with enormous physiological importance. Thus, protein undernutrition results in stunting, anemia, physical weakness, edema, vascular dysfunction, and impaired immunity. Based on short-term nitrogen balance studies, the Recommended Dietary Allowance of protein for a healthy adult with minimal physical activity is currently 0.8 g protein per kg body weight (BW) per day. To meet the functional needs such as promoting skeletal-muscle protein accretion and physical strength, dietary intake of 1.0, 1.3, and 1.6 g protein per kg BW per day is recommended for individuals with minimal, moderate, and intense physical activity, respectively. Long-term consumption of protein at 2 g per kg BW per day is safe for healthy adults, and the tolerable upper limit is 3.5 g per kg BW per day for well-adapted subjects. Chronic high protein intake (>2 g per kg BW per day for adults) may result in digestive, renal, and vascular abnormalities and should be avoided. The quantity and quality of protein are the determinants of its nutritional values. Therefore, adequate consumption of high-quality proteins from animal products (e.g., lean meat and milk) is essential for optimal growth, development, and health of humans.

Spaceflight induces molecular, cellular, and physiological shifts in astronauts and poses myriad biomedical challenges to the human body, which are becoming increasingly relevant as more humans venture into space 1-6 . Yet, current frameworks for aerospace medicine are nascent and lag far behind advancements in precision medicine on Earth, underscoring the need for rapid development of space medicine databases, tools, and protocols. Here, we present the Space Omics and Medical Atlas (SOMA), an integrated data and sample repository for clinical, cellular, and multi-omic research profiles from a diverse range of missions, including the NASA Twins Study 7 , JAXA CFE study 8,9 , SpaceX Inspiration4 crew 10-12 , plus Axiom and Polaris. The SOMA resource represents a >10-fold increase in publicly available human space omics data, with matched samples available from the Cornell Aerospace Medicine Biobank. The Atlas includes extensive molecular and physiological profiles encompassing genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and microbiome data sets, which reveal some consistent features across missions, including cytokine shifts, telomere elongation, and gene expression changes, as well as mission-specific molecular responses and links to orthologous, tissue-specific murine data sets. Leveraging the datasets, tools, and resources in SOMA can help accelerate precision aerospace medicine, bringing needed health monitoring, risk mitigation, and countermeasures data for upcoming lunar, Mars, and exploration-class missions.

On March 13, 2020, national science and technology advisors from a dozen countries, including the United States, called on publishers to voluntarily make their COVID-19 and coronavirus-related publications, and the available data supporting them, immediately accessible in PubMed Central (PMC) and other appropriate public repositories to support public health emergency response efforts (see the Call to Make COVID-19 Data/Research Publicly Available ).

In response, more than 50 publishers and scholarly societies (see Collaborators to the right) volunteered to make their COVID-19 and coronavirus-related articles published in peer-reviewed journals freely accessible in PMC to researchers, health practitioners, and the public in formats and under license terms that facilitate text mining and secondary analysis. From March 2020 through June 2023, this collaboration resulted in making more than 350,000 articles relating to COVID-19 and previous coronaviruses accessible under license terms and through distribution channels that supported further research re-use and secondary analysis (see PMC Open Access Subset ). In 2023, NLM renamed the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency Initiative as the PMC COVID-19 Collection (“Collection”).

Around one-third of articles in the Collection were made available in PMC under a Creative Commons license, which ensures that the articles remain permanently accessible in PMC and the PMC Open Access Subset. All other articles in the Collection were deposited by publishers under custom license terms that allowed for access and/or re-use only for the duration of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency.

Upon the expiration of global public health emergency declarations, NLM engaged collaborators on providing continued access to and discovery of COVID-19 research to support ongoing research. See the PMC COVID-19 Collection FAQ for the current access status of articles deposited under such custom license terms following the expiration of the public health emergency.

NLM remains appreciative for the opportunity to collaborate with the scholarly publishing community on the COVID-19 public health emergency response effort and remains committed to providing perpetual public access to all articles deposited in the PMC COVID-19 Collection for which the copyright holder provides such permission.

Coronavirus-Related and COVID-19-Related Articles in PMC

Use the buttons below to run queries in PMC to find full-text content relating to COVID-19 and coronaviruses.

COVID-19 Content

Coronavirus Content (historical and current literature)

NLM encourages customization of these suggested search queries to meet your specific research or information needs. For example, in PMC you can append 'AND "open access"[filter]' or 'AND "author manuscript"[filter]' to this query or to your own custom queries to identify articles that are currently available in machine-readable formats for text mining or other types of re-use through the  PMC Article Datasets .

Individuals interested in discovering all COVID-19-related literature in NLM literature databases should search each database individually (see also the NCBI Virus SARS-CoV-2 Data Hub ). Results may differ due to the availability of records in each database as well as the scope of what is available to search in each database (e.g., titles and abstracts vs. full text). To view PMC-only records to complement your PubMed search results, you may append your PMC search with “NOT pmc pubmed[filter].” (See also “ Why are some articles from the PMC COVID-19 Collection not discoverable in PubMed? ”)

PubMed Central® (PMC) is a free full-text archive of biomedical and life sciences journal literature at the U.S. National Institutes of Health's National Library of Medicine (NIH/NLM). In keeping with NLM’s legislative mandate to collect and preserve the biomedical literature, PMC serves as a digital counterpart to NLM’s extensive print journal collection that supports contemporary biomedical and health care research and practice as well as future scholarship. It is also part of the PMC International Network .
