Immerse yourself in a unique Finance Ecosystem

[Michelle Sisto - Associate Dean for Graduate Studies]

EDHEC made the choice about 20 years ago to really focus our financial industry and our financial programmes here on our Nice campus.

So our EDHEC Risk Institute is housed here. Our EDHEC Risk Climate Impact Institute is housed here in Nice. Our Career Centre oriented to finance is here and our masters in finance programmes as well as our PhD programme are also housed here.

So we have a really strong ecosystem of a multitude of actors working in the financial industry and academia based here on our campus.

Anyone who joins EDHEC, part of our selection process is we expect them to be an active, proactive member of our community. Not just today, but long term, particularly in finance.

We want students who will come and join us who are ready to challenge themselves, who are ready to challenge the current practices that are going on in the industry and ready to learn and be creative, looking for new ways of changing the industry in a positive way. That's part of our ethos - make an impact. We could add an adjective and say make a positive impact.

So the specialisations that we've chosen are really in line with where we see the industry moving. We want our students to be industry ready at graduation. So, they can choose amongst a wide portfolio of specialisations, accounting and finance, financial engineering with a very strong impetus on data science, on private equity, on decentralised finance, all areas where the industry is moving.

We also have a large number of students who are interested in corporate finance. That remains a very big field.

And just recently we've chosen a new specialisation, it’s a double degree that we developed with the MINES Paris PSL on climate change and sustainable finance.

[Chloé Lévy - Finance Career Centre Manager]

In terms of events, the Career Centre organises more than 60 events per year.

Some of them are generalists, like the forum held in Paris with more than 100 companies. Some of them are more specialised to master's students in finance. It could be workshops, company presentations, or recruitment events. On top of that, there are job dating events twice a year,

audit days, finance recruitment days, where recruiters come on campus to meet, interview and recruit our students. And students have the opportunity to participate in treks we organise in London, Paris and Luxembourg.

Our graduates are very successful with their placement. Actually, more than half of them already signed a contract before their graduation. Some of our top recruiters are Bank of America, Barclays, Citigroup, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, to name just a few.

One of our strongest assets of the career centre is that we provide students with individual meetings, individual coaching. We try to consider the long-term perspective and we set together a real proper strategy for each student. You're not just a number, right?

You're part of a community. You have individual needs, individual expectations. That's why you have to benefit from individual advice and coaching.

Hi everybody, I'm Neeti and I'm from India

and I'm studying the MSc in Climate Change & Sustainable Finance here at EDHEC So I did attend a lot of the [networking sessions] I think attended Macquarie, Moody's... yesterday I attended STX Group...They all had a huge focus on sustainability which was very insightful and gave me a lot of new ideas about where I could apply and where it would be a perfect fit for me.

So Green Finance is now a a huge part of the industry where as investment managers, portfolio managers you have the power to move a lot of funds away from industries that are harmful to the climate and push industries to actually change their business model so that they are more sustainable. So I want to gain some experience in portfolio management on the sustainability side and start a fund of my own, I could cater to clients who fought passionately about climate change and want to actually make a difference with their money. A lot of women are now moving to the board, to top positions in companies bringing their very innovative and different solutions and perspectives so I think we do have a long way to go but we are getting there. I think it has been a great experience.

It has been very insightful in understanding the different kinds of opportunities that are being made available to students and I'm actually very grateful that I've been given this opportunity to interact with all the companies I think it's a great takeaway and will help with my future career path.

Understanding the difference between an MBA and a Master of Science in Finance is crucial for you to make the best choice depending on your career goal. Both programmes are recognised and offer great outcomes for applicants, but their focus and their audience are different.

An MBA is usually a programme designed as training for experienced professionals who have already acquired significant work experience and are looking to expand their managerial skills in finance. An MBA typically lasts 1 to 2 years and aims to develop leadership and management skills.

An MSc, on the other hand, is usually designed for candidates who haven't yet started their careers or as early career training. It may also be of interest to people moving into finance from another sector. The MSc tends to be more specialised and technical than an MBA, with the duration of the course usually set at one year. This shorter time frame is designed to allow students to develop a deep and technical understanding of financial concepts, tools and techniques required for missions such as quantitative analysis, investment management or risk assessment.

An MBA and a Master in Finance offer valuable networking opportunities, although they differ in nature. With an MBA, you would be likely to meet managers, reflecting the programme's focus on leadership and management. On the other hand, a Master in Management - Finance or an MSc will provide you with deeper connections with finance professionals and industry specialists, which will prove particularly beneficial to start your career in the sector.

As you can see, the choice between an MBA and an MSc depends largely on your profile and career aspirations. If you are a young student without any work experience and you wish to kickstart your career in Finance, our Master in Management - Finance track is the best option. If you are a student or a young graduate in the early stages of your career, a Master of Science in Finance is the more appropriate option. However, after a few years of experience, an MBA will prove worthwhile in order to progress in your career and open up more professional opportunities. Considering the programme’s comprehensive nature, you will engage with various core modules that align with your career goals. Furthermore, you will need to meet specific entry requirements to be eligible for the programme.

The duration of EDHEC Business School's Masters of Finance is designed to provide you with a comprehensive education in finance, while allowing you to gain practical experience through an in-company period. The balance between academic learning and professional exposure ensures that upon completion of the programme, you are well prepared to start your career in finance whichever Master you will choose.

Our Masters of Science programmes run from September to May, encompassing the core academic coursework. During these months, you will engage in a series of intensive course periods where you will study the intricacies of finance through various core modules, such as corporate finance, portfolio management, climate change economics, advanced derivatives, etc. These courses will give you an in-depth understanding of finance.

In addition to the course periods, you will start an internship in June. You will have the possibility to do your internship abroad and enjoy an international period during your Master in Finance. This international exposure and insight into global financial markets will prove invaluable if you wish to pursue a global career.

This brings the total duration of the Master of Science in Finance to about one year. This structured approach not only provides you with advanced valuable skills, but also incorporates significant practical and even international experience. This will help you to steer your career in the direction you want in just one year. This is a perfect opportunity for you to complete your professional profile with strategic and competitive skills.

Depending on your background, the programme may start earlier for you. You may be required to take preparatory courses remotely, at your own pace, in July and August before arriving on campus. These are designed to ensure that all students start the programme with the same foundation and knowledge. After these courses you will be ready to start your Master of Science in Finance.

Our Master in Management - Finance track lasts 3 years. The programme combines a 2-year academic education with a full year of professional immersion. The Master begins with a foundational year, focusing on giving you a 360-degree view of finance. This comprehensive approach ensures graduates are well-informed in both corporate and market finance, equipped with managerial skills, and skilled in applying tools and knowledge to real-world situations.

A distinguishing feature of this 2-year academic programme is the year of professional immersion, allowing you to apply your academic knowledge in real-world experience through two 6-month internships. This practical experience is invaluable, often influencing the specialisation choice in the final year.

In the final year, your second academic year,  you will choose from our four Masters of Science to gain additional skills in your chosen field – Accounting and Finance, Corporate Finance and Banking, Financial Engineering, and Climate Change & Sustainable Finance.

Upon graduation, you will possess both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for navigating the complexities of the finance industry. Additionally, you will earn a French Master's degree, fully accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education in France, along with an MSc degree in your chosen specialisation for the final year of your education.

A Masters in Finance teaches you advanced financial concepts, quantitative analysis, risk management, and investment strategies. It also covers subjects like corporate finance, financial engineering, and sustainable finance, preparing you for diverse roles in the finance industry.

A Master's in Finance can significantly boost your career prospects by providing specialised knowledge and skills. It enables you to pursue high-level roles such as financial analyst, investment banker, or risk manager, and enhances your earning potential.
