మిస్పింగ్ కథ ఏమిటంటే?

గౌతమ్ (హర్ష నర్రా) సాఫ్ట్‌వేర్ ఇంజినీర్. శృతి (నికీషా రంగ్వాలా)ను ప్రేమించి పెళ్లి చేసుకొంటాడు. ఊహించని రీతిలో గౌతమ్, శృతి ప్రయాణిస్తున్న కారు ప్రమాదానికి గురవుతుంది. యాక్సిడెంట్ తర్వాత శృతి కనిపించకుండా పోతుంది. గాయాలతో హాస్పిటల్‌‌లో చేరిన గౌతమ్ చికిత్స అనంతరం కోలుకొని బయటకు వస్తాడు. ఆ తర్వాత తమను వెంటాడిని ఐదుగురు వ్యక్తులను గుర్తిస్తాడు. ఆ తర్వాత ఆ వ్యక్తులను చేరుకొనే లోపే ఆ నలుగురు హత్యకు గురవుతారు.

ఫస్టాఫ్ ఎలా ఉందంటే..

సినిమా ఆరంభంలోనే ఓ ఆసక్తికరమైన కిడ్నాప్ సీన్‌తో మిస్సింగ్ ప్రారంభమవుతుంది. ఆ తర్వాత గౌతమి, శృతి వెహికిల్ యాక్సిడెంట్ కావడంతో అసలు సినిమా అసలు కథలోకి వెళ్తుంది. యాక్సిడెంట్ తర్వాత కథ ఊహించని విధంగా మలుపులు తిరగడమే కాకుండా ముందు ముందు ఏం జరుగుతుందోననే ఉత్కంఠను కూడా రేపుతుంది. గౌతమ్‌కు సంబంధించి ఓ ఇంట్రెస్టింగ్ పాయింట్‌తో ఇంటర్వెల్ బ్యాంగ్ పడుతుంది. దాంతో సినిమా రెండో భాగంపై మరింత ఆసక్తి పెరుగుతుంది.

దర్శకుడు శ్రీని ప్రతిభ

దర్శకుడు శ్రీని జోస్యులు రాసుకొన్న కథనే సినిమాకు బలంగా మారింది. ఎమోషనల్ రోల్స్‌లో నూతన నటీనటులు, చిన్నస్థాయి నటులు నుంచి ఫెర్ఫార్మెన్స్‌ను రాబట్టుకొన్న విధానం దర్శకత్వ ప్రతిభకు అద్దం పట్టింది. కథను నడిపించిన విధానం, ట్విస్టులను స్టోరీలో జొప్పించిన పద్దతి ఆకట్టుకొనేలా ఉందని చెప్పవచ్చు. సినిమా సక్సెస్‌లో దర్శకుడిదే అగ్రభాగమని చెప్పవచ్చు.

హర్ష, మిషా నారంగ్

మిస్పింగ్ సినిమాలో గౌతమ్ పాత్రదే వన్ మ్యాన్ షో. ఆ పాత్రలో కనిపించిన హర్ష నర్రా కొత్తవాడైనప్పటికీ అనుభవం ఉన్న నటుడిగా కనిపించాడు. కీలక సన్నివేశాలలో ఎలాంటి తడబాటు లేకుండా తన హావభావాలతో కథను మరో లెవెల్‌కు తీసుకెళ్లే ప్రయత్నం చేశాడని చెప్పవచ్చు. డైలాగ్ డెలివరీ, బాడీ లాంగ్వేజ్ స్పెషల్ ఎట్రాక్షన్ అని చెప్పవచ్చు. హీరో, హీరోయిన్ల విషయానికి వస్తే.. శృతి పాత్రలో నికీషా ఒదిగిపోయింది. పాత్ర పరిధిని బట్టి తన నటనతో ఆకట్టుకొన్నది. రొమాంటిక్ సీన్లతో హర్షతో కెమిస్ట్రీ బాగుంది. క్లైమాక్స్‌లో ఒక సీన్‌లో మంచి నటనతో ఆకట్టుకొనే ప్రయత్నం నికీషా చేసింది. జర్నలిస్టు పాత్రలో మిషా నారంగ్ తనదైన శైలిలో నటించింది. కథలో కీలకంగా మారిన పాత్రలో ఆమె నటన మెప్పించిందని చెప్పవచ్చు. ఇక ఏసీపీ త్యాగి, సీఐ పాత్రలో రామ్ దత్, చత్రపతి శేఖర్ ఆకట్టుకొన్నారు.

సాంకేతిక విభాగాల పనితీరు

సాంకేతిక విభాగాల విషయానికి వస్తే.. థ్రిల్లర్‌కు సరిపోయే విధంగా అజయ్ అరసాడ అందించిన బ్యాక్ గ్రౌండ్ స్కోర్ ఉంది. కొన్ని సీన్లలో కాస్త అతిగా అనిపిస్తుంది. జనా డీ సినిమాటోగ్రఫి సినిమాకు స్పెషల్ ఎట్రాక్షన్. లైటింగ్ వాడుకొన్న విధానం బాగుంది. సత్య ఎడిటింగ్ ప్రతిభ కూడా ఫర్‌ఫెక్ట్‌గా ఉంది. మిగితా అన్ని విభాగాల పనితీరు బాగుంది.

Disappointing crime drama; nonsensical, inconsistent, diffuse, predictable and trivial. It's tone is all over the place, none of the characters were really interesting, the plot became quite predictable after little run time, I honestly struggled to get through 😬

When it all comes together, it comes together beautifully, and at its best, Missing crackles with life and raw emotion. Its unfocused digressions are regrettable, but there is a lot of promise to Katayama's vision, and his second outing establishes him as a director who's worth keeping an eye on.

The second feature film from Shinzo Katayama (friend of Bong Joon-Ho and AD on his incredible Mother [2009]), Missing is an extraordinary and lengthy look at a serial killer, a daughter, and the daughter's dad who goes missing after being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Is it all as simple as that sounds? Is anything ever?

Twists, turns, and a heaping amount of depression follows, in addition to homages to Memories of Murder, another Joon-Ho film. Not as good, but still fairly surprising and with some breathtaking scenes, including its final (and maybe most memorable) one

Jiro Sato is pretty incredible in Missing , but I found it to be relentlessly bleak, and not in an interesting way. There are character moments that don't work for me (especially the daughter/boyfriend stuff), and the serial killer character felt a bit edgy for the sake of it. In addition to some over-written dialogue, I just felt like this film really wants to feel more twisted and clever than it actually ends up being. I felt a bit letdown.

You do feel the weight of its runtime, but this human drama disguised as a serial killer thriller is worth the investment. One of the best teenage girl protagonists to come along in awhile, it's the father-daughter relationship at the center of the story that really makes this film special. Up till the first hour or so I was into this but after I realized where it's going, I zoned out completely. Tries too hard to be shocking and appear complex when in reality it's just too heavy handed and self indulgent. Wonder how many takes that final scene needed to get right, though.

Story Review

Software engineers Gautam (Harsha Narra) and Sruthi ( Nikkesha Rangwala) fall in love and get married. However the car they were traveling in meets with an accident and after the accident, Gautam finds himself in a coma. After gaining consciousness, he gets another shock when he comes to know that his wife Shruti goes missing. Where Shruti goes missing and what is the mystery behind it, how is his brother in law (Surya) who owns the hospital, young journalist Meena(Misha Narang), investigating officer Tyagi (Ram Dutt), and the police officer (Chatrapati Sekhar) are connected to it, forms the mystery of Missing.

Artists, Technicians Review

Director Srini Josyula starts off the narration in an interesting manner with the kidnap. The car accident involving Gautam and Shruti increases curiosity. However, he quickly loses the plot in the first half and confuses people. When viewers expected a better second half, he thought numerous twists will drive viewers crazy. However, they ended up confusing the viewers. Though Srini Josuya came with an interesting plot and concept, he failed with his insipid screenplay and direction. Except for a couple of dialogues and a few twists, Srini Josyula failed to elevate the proceedings. Srini Josuyla generates interest with the interval bang but with unnecessary flashback episodes and romantic track, he diluted and deviated from the main story.

Ajay Arasada with his music attracted viewers. He made a good impact with his background music elevating the scenes. The cinematography of Jana is good and took viewers into the story. Editing of Satya could have been a little better. Production values are good.

Harsha Narra tried his best to attract viewers. However, his inexperience came to the fore as he couldn't come with good expressions at times. Nikkesha Rangwala is confined to glamor show on the screen. Misha Narang is ok in her role. Others performed according to their roles.

Director Srini Josyula with Missing tried to mesmerize movie lovers with interesting twists and turns thrilling them completely. However, he failed completely with his execution and instead ended up confusing viewers. With a little bit of fine-tuning of the script and getting the optimum out of the cast and crew, he would have got better results with Missing. Considering all these points, CJ goes with a 2 rating for Missing.

దర్శకుడు శ్రీని జోస్యుల కథను బాగానే రాసుకున్నాడు కానీ కథను స్క్రీన్‌పై చూపించిన విధానం కాస్త గజిబిజీగా అనిపిస్తుంది. అతడికి ఇది తొలి చిత్రం కావడంతో ఆ అనుభవ లేమి స్పష్టంగా కనిపించింది. ఇక ఎమోషనల్ రోల్స్‌లో నూతన నటీనటుల నుంచి సరైన ఫెర్ఫార్మెన్స్‌ను రాబట్టుకోలేకపోయాడు.

అయితే థ్రిల్లర్‌కు సరిపోయే విధంగా అజయ్ అరసాడ అందించిన బ్యాక్ గ్రౌండ్ స్కోర్ బాగుంది. జనా డీ సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ ఆకట్టుకుంది. ఎడిటర్‌ సత్య మరికాస్త శ్రద్ధ పెట్టి ఉంటే బాగుండేది. నిర్మాణ విలువలు బాగున్నాయి.

ఇక మొత్తంగా చూసుకున్నట్టైతే ఫ్యామిలీ ఎమోషన్స్‌, లవ్, క్రైమ్ అంశాలతో తెరకెక్కించిన సస్పెన్స్ థ్రిల్లర్ “మిస్పింగ్”లో ట్విస్టులు ఒకే అనిపించినా అవి మరీ ఎక్కువవ్వడంతో ప్రేక్షకుడిని కన్‌ఫ్యూజన్‌కి గురిచేస్తాయి. అయితే సస్పెన్స్ థ్రిల్లర్ సినిమాలను కోరుకునే ప్రేక్షకులకు ఈ సినిమా నచ్చే అవకాశం ఉంది కానీ మిగతా వర్గాల ప్రేక్షకులను మాత్రం పెద్దగా ఆకట్టుకోదనే చెప్పాలి.

A low-budget movie titled, Missing under the direction of Srini Josyula has caught everyone’s attention with its promos. Starring newcomer Harsha Narra in the lead role, the film had a theatrical release today. Let’s check how it is.

Being a happy-go-lucky couple, Gowtham (Harsha Narra) and Sruthi ( Nikkesha Rangwala) will be leading a happy life. But as an unexpected scenario, while on a road trip, they meet with an accident, and later Sruthi will be missing from the accident spot. After getting conscious, Gowtham gets to know that Sruthi is kidnapped. Later, what will Gowtham do to track Sruthi? How is a young journalist named Meena’s (Misha Narang) role linked in the proceedings? To know that, you have to watch the film on the screen.

On-screen performances:

Hero Harsha Narra has a decent screen presence and tried to give his best in the multi-shaded character. Though his physical appearance is good, Harsha has to improve his acting skills a lot.

Heroine Nikkesha Rangwala is cute but has limited screen time. The second heroine Misha Narang gets a purposeful role in which she does a good job. But her chemistry with the hero has not been projected in a convincing manner.

Other artists like Ram Dutt in okay as a bad cop. Chatrapathi Shekar gets a meaty role and did his part nicely.

Off-screen talents:

Music by Vasishta Sharma is good as his background elevates the mood of the film nicely. Songs are passable on the screen.

The cinematography by Janaa is fine as he captured the night mood shots neatly with his framing and lighting setup. The sound design by T Udayakumar is alright.

The artwork by Dhara Ramesh is good. Editing by Satya G is adequate. Production values for this tight-budget movie are okay.

Verdict: In an overview, Missing has a decent concept that has scope to explore in an even better manner. But director Srini Josyula diluted the content with a flat narration in the first half and by incorporating too many sub-plots in the latter half. Barring a few episodes and some well-written dialogues here and there, Missing has nothing great to watch in the theatres. All we suggest is to wait for the OTT release and watch it if you have enough time.

Following the death of his wife, Satoshi has fallen into a deep depressive state and is also in debt. But he thinks he has found a way out when he tells his daughter that he will hunt down an infamous serial killer known as 'No Name'.

I wasn't quite prepared for the impact that this film would have on me. Having only been exposed to the vague plot not too long before my viewing, I can honestly say that 'Missing' is a film that punched me right in the gut on various occasions, leaving me a sobbing mess more than once during its runtime.

I want to preface that if you're currently in a loving relationship with someone then 'Missing' will be very difficult to watch at times. There are a few scenes that genuinely made me feel sick with a grief that I haven't even experienced yet and there was even a point when I considered bailing out, but I'm glad I didn't. Film is art after all and a reflection of real life and sometimes the most emotionally suffocating experiences make you stronger. I managed to get through those particularly difficult scenes, albeit with blubbering tears and snot, and what followed kinda blew me away.

We're first introduced to Satoshi Harada (Jîro Satô) when his daughter Kaede (Aoi Itô) has to bail him out of a precarious shoplifting incident. Poor Kaede has ran through the streets of Osaka at night-time to get to her father on time before it escalates and she manages to get him off the hook. We then get a little backstory here about Harada and Kaede's situation. It's just the two of them now because Kimiko, Satoshi's wife and Kaede's mother has sadly passed away. They're not living their best life and Satoshi is struggling with depression and understandably he is also struggling to hide it. With very little money to their name and zero ambitions whatsoever, life itself has become almost unbearable. Yet the father daughter relationship is still strong enough, sharing funny, intimate moments when they can. Satoshi admits to his daughter that he thinks he knows who the infamous 'No Name' serial killer is who has been featured in all the recent news reports so he plans on capturing him and claiming a large reward from the authorities. Kaede essentially laughs this off but one morning Satoshi has vanished leaving behind zero clues. Fearing the worst, Kaede makes it her mission to find her father at all costs. But this is so much more than just a generic missing person thriller. Filled with twists and turns and breathtaking performances, 'Missing' is an emotional rollercoaster and an absolute heartbreaking piece of filmmaking.

From the very first frame of 'Missing' I knew I was in for a treat. Satoshi practicing swinging a hammer in slow motion. Without context this is a simple yet intriguing way to open a picture and obviously bares a lot more importance later on in the film. It starts off a little in the same vein as Bong Joon-ho's Oscar winning 'Parasite' in how it highlights the divisive class system, although in a much more subtle way. After Satoshi's disappearance it becomes apparent that nobody really wants to help Kaede find him, even the authorities, who have wrote his vanishing off as nothing more than an easy way out of his crippling debts. Katayama worked as AD on Joon-ho's ' Mother' and the influeneces are noticeable. Kaede becomes super desperate and eventually manages to string a couple of fine threaded clues together which reveal that the 'No Name' serial killer is in fact living in Osaka and that he may have had something to do with her father going missing.

I won't spoil anything to do with the plot any further but through some time jumps we are exposed to something a lot more sinister going on. If this was a Hollywood movie (I'm sure a US remake won't be far away) then I could definitely see David Fincher or M. Night Shyamalan taking the helm.

The three leads in this film are all incredible. Aoi Itô is particularly outstanding as the young, female heroine who seems to fear nothing else but the so-called inevitability of finding her father's corpse somewhere. There's a terrific sequence relatively early on where she is chasing the killer (Hiroya Shimizu) but becomes boxed in and in her only suitable way of defending herself she raises her closed fists up to fight the man off. It doesn't sound like much on paper but it perfectly sums up her courage and determination. Her character is like a tiny Jack Russell who just won't stop trying to nibble at your heels. Her tenacity is one of her overpowering qualities. That and her enduring love for her father.

There are some very shocking scenes in the film and as mentioned previously some scenes that are just heart-wrenchingly painful to watch. It is a very bleak film but it does dare to ask some important questions about humanity and it's also gorgeous to look at. I'm a little bit obsessed with the Japanese streets lit up at night. I know for a fact that there is one scene that will stay with me for a very long time and it involves Jirô Satô making an unimaginable decision, all for the unwavering love he has for his wife. Crazy to think that this is Shinzô Katayama's commercial feature film directorial debut. What a stunning way to introduce yourself to the film world.
