02. Brainstorm themes and associated words

Think about keywords related to your app's functionality and its user benefits as these could form the basis of your name or be included as part of it. Consider the emotions or ideas you want to evoke in your audience and put words connected with this on the list. Make a list of these words and themes to work from and edit.

Using a business name generator can provide you with creative and relevant name suggestions based on the keywords and themes you've brainstormed. You can then experiment with different combinations and use the generated names for inspiration.

04. Check and confirm availability

It’s important to have a business name and website domain that match. So once you have a smaller list of app names confirmed, check if their corresponding domain names are available. You will also need to make sure that no one else is already using the name you’ve chosen, which you can check through the USPTO . Changing your name later can be complicated and confusing and bad for your branding, so whether you’re choosing a business name or just one for an app, check and confirm its availability first.

05. Test your app name

For more detail, check out our How to Name Your Business blog post. This post has ten tips that are important for every type of business venture to follow. The guide fits perfectly with these app-specific naming tips!

We're confident that it's by far the most effective name generator on the market. Using it, you'll find names that would legitimately be worth $2,000+ on domain resale sites. We also included several bonuses, including a naming mini-course. Click here to see exactly what you'll get!

Tip #1: Use a Keyword in Your App Name

Apple has an entire page dedicated to app store optimization. On the page, they state that “search plays a huge role in how users discover and download content on the App Store.”

The first section on Apple's page is “choose accurate keywords.” There are many similarities between traditional SEO and app store optimization, and choosing the right keywords is essential in both areas.

In your name, it’s even more important to give a hint as to what your app does. If your app is free, some users will download multiple similar apps, and delete all except the one they like the most. It’s crucial to get in that first wave of downloads. Often, they will look at the name and review rating to decide what to download.

If you want more detail, Moz has a helpful overview with more tips on app store optimization.

Tip #2: Pick a Name That Fits With Your App Icon and Branding

When a potential user sees your app in the app store for the first time, they’ll likely notice two things. The first is your name. The second is your app icon.

Both your app name and icon represent your first (and possibly only) chance to make an impression on your customer. It's critical to make sure that you keep both aligned and consistent.

In our How to Name Your Business blog post, we mention the importance of communicating your brand’s values. For an app, it’s essential to target a specific emotion or target audience. You want to keep everything consistent throughout the app user’s journey.

For example, take a look at the app “My Talking Tom,” on the Google Play Store . In this game, you’re taking care of a talking cat. The icon and name are light-hearted and family-friendly. You can get a good sense of the app before looking at the description.

Tip #3: Align Your App Name With Your Domain Name

Instagram grew from an iOS app, to an Android app, to a website, and beyond. Like Instagram, your business may evolve from an app into something more.

Because of this, it’s a great idea to align your app name with your domain name. Your primary method of acquiring customers will likely be the app store. But your domain and website are also important.

While it’s preferable to get a .com, don’t be afraid to choose an alternative domain extension. For apps, the best alternative extensions include .net, .app, and country domains like .co.uk. Another option is to add a domain name modifier (like try myapp or get myapp).

For many businesses, their website is top-of-mind if a customer wants to find out more information. For an app, the app store listing serves that purpose. Therefore, it’s helpful to prioritize the app store name first.

By using our app name generator, you’ll find available domain names that you can use for your app and your website.

Tip #4: Do an App Store Search and Scout Your Competition

Your app isn’t the only one that users will see on the app store! It’s vital to keep app store optimization top of mind as you create your new app.

Take a look at the apps that come up when you search for your primary keywords. How can you differentiate yourself?

Of course, your name and icon are the first items that you should attempt to differentiate. There’s a balance between making your app descriptive and making it stand out in the store.

By having a memorable, differentiated name, your app will stand out and attract more users.

Tip #5: Understand Your Audience Before You Start Brainstorming

If you hired a corporate naming agency to name your app, they would have you complete a naming brief .

A naming brief is a short document that helps you understand your business, customers, and naming goals.

An app naming brief doesn't have to be fancy or extensive. Our Naming Made Easy course contains a 12-question naming brief.

You don't want to bog yourself down by answering 50 questions. Instead, focus on developing a high-level understanding of your app and your audience. Your name should fit your future growth plans for the app. Plus, you want to make sure that your name will resonate with your target users.

How to Name Your Mobile App

homework app name ideas

It's all in the name, or so they say. But do the actual data and studies say the same about naming a mobile app? Let's take a look.

  • In today's digital age, developing a strong bond with your smartphone is not uncommon. In fact, data suggests the average person spends nearly four hours on their phone each day.
  • To put things into perspective, US consumers spend more time on their smartphones than they do watching TV. In fact, 89% of that time is spent on mobile apps.
  • A study by App Annie showed that brandable names have an edge in the app store. In fact, the research shows that "branded" app names are almost 10% more likely to rank in the top 10 for their category than keyword-based or generic names.
  • Consumers' demands are continuously evolving with the advancement of mobile apps. A good first impression is critical for a first-time visitor. Based on a poor app experience, the research found that 48% of users make fast judgments about the company's overall trustworthiness. Mobile apps are not going anywhere; they are only going to become more and more popular. Therefore, it is important to have an app name that is creative, unique, and catches the eye.

12 Steps for Coming Up with a Good App Name

So, how do you come up with a good name for your mobile app? Let's jump in!

Brainstorm Your Name Ideas

When it comes to coming up with a good app name, brainstorming is key. Don't worry if the first few ideas that come to mind seem too obvious or cliche- sometimes the best names are the simplest ones. Once you have a few ideas, try playing around with them to see what sounds the best.

Sometimes, adding a simple prefix or suffix can make all the difference. Another trick is to try different spellings or word order- for example, reversing the name can give it a whole new meaning. And if all else fails, you can always consult a thesaurus for inspiration. With a little creativity, you're sure to come up with a great app name in no time!

Gather Data on Your Existing Competitors

In a crowded app marketplace, it's more important than ever to make sure your app stands out from the competition. So how can you make sure you choose the right name? One way is to gather data and analyze your competitors. What names are they using? What do users seem to respond to? Then, once you understand the landscape well, you can start to narrow down your options and choose a name that will help your app stand out from the rest.

Understand Your Audience

The best app names are memorable, unique, and relevant to the app's target audience. They also reflect the app's purpose and have a positive connotation. Brainstorming with a team of people who understand your target audience is a good way to generate ideas.

Once you have a list of potential names, test them out by conducting user research or A/B testing. Ultimately, the goal is to choose a name that will help your app stand out from the crowd and resonate with its intended audience.

Understand Different Name Types

It's important to understand the different types of names that are out there.

  • Descriptive names, as the name implies, describe what an app does or its function. This can include things like acronyms, initials, founder names, and geographical names.
  • On the other hand, invented names are completely made-up and don't have any real meaning behind them. These might come from foreign languages or be completely fabricated.
  • Experiential names describe the experience of using an app. They show what people can expect when they use the app and how it will make them feel.
  • Lastly, evocative names represent the mobile app brand and its values. These are usually more abstract and can be open to interpretation.

Knowing the different types of names can help you choose the right one for your app.

Don't Limit Your App Name

When you're coming up with a name for your app, it's important not to limit yourself. The name of your app should be reflective of its purpose and functionality, but it shouldn't be so specific that it pigeonholes your app into one particular area.

For example, if you have a productivity app, you might be tempted to call it something like "Productivity App" or "To-Do List App." However, these names are too generic and don't really give users an idea of what your app does. So instead, try to come up with a name that is both descriptive and creative.

Something like "Effortless Productivity" would work well. Remember, the goal is to create a name that will catch people's attention and make them want to download your app. So don't be afraid to think outside the box!

Shortlist Your App Name Ideas

Once you've brainstormed a list of potential names, it's time to start narrowing things down. The first step is to remove any names that are too similar to existing apps or brands. You also want to avoid anything that could be trademarked or copyrighted.

After you've removed the obvious no-gos, it's time to start evaluating the remaining names. Try to imagine how each one would look as a logo or on a marketing campaign. Which ones are easy to remember and pronounce? Which ones convey the right message for your app?

Then, take your top picks and run them by a group of people who are familiar with your app. Ask for their honest feedback and see which ones they respond to the most.

Get Some Feedback or Conduct a Survey

When you've narrowed your options to a few final candidates, it's time to get feedback from potential users. One way to do this is to conduct a survey.

Another option is to run a user testing session. This involves showing people your app name and asking them what they think it is about. Again, this can be a great way to get some insight into how people perceive your app.

Your App Name Should Be Available as a Domain Name

Having your app name as a domain name will make it easier for people to find your website and learn more about your app. It will also make it easier for people to remember your app when they're looking for it later. So if you're still in the process of choosing a name for your app, be sure to check availability as a domain name before you commit. It could make all the difference in the success of your app.

Your App Name Should Be Available on Social Platforms

Being discoverable on social media is another important factor in the success of your app. So when you're choosing a name, be sure to check that it's available on all the major social platforms. This includes Twitter , Facebook , and Instagram .

If your app name is already taken on these platforms, you might want to consider changing it. Otherwise, you could have a hard time getting people to find and follow you.

Invest in Branding

When you think of branding, what comes to mind? For many people, the term conjures up images of big companies with well-recognized logos. But branding is not just for big businesses. In fact, it is just as important for small businesses and startups, especially in the app development industry. There are a number of reasons why branding is important for your app.

  • First, it helps to create awareness. A strong brand will make your app more visible in a crowded market.
  • Second, it builds trust. Consumers are more likely to use an app they perceive as trustworthy and reliable.
  • Third, it Differentiates your app from the competition. In a marketplace with hundreds of thousands of apps, it is vital to have a brand that sets you apart from the rest.

Investing in branding will help you to achieve all of these goals and more. So if you're serious about making your app a success, don't forget the power of branding.

Develop Your Brand

There are many ways to develop your brand for your app. branding can be developed through marketing, design, and even the app's user interface.

One way to develop your brand is through marketing. You can use various marketing channels to reach your target audience and promote your app. You can use online advertising, social media, and even traditional offline channels like print and television.

Another way to develop your brand is through design. The look and feel of your app should be consistent with your brand image. This includes the color scheme, logo, icons, and even the layout of the app.

Finally, you can also develop your brand through the app's user interface. This includes how users interact with the app and their overall experience while using it. Make sure that the user interface is intuitive and easy to use. It should also be consistent with the other elements of your brand.

Keep Looking for Inspiration

Never limit yourself to just one source of inspiration. The more ideas you have, the better chance you have of coming up with a great app name. So keep your mind open and continue to look for inspiration from all around you. Check out the names of other apps in your niche. See what they're doing right and wrong, and use that information to help you create a better name for your app.

You can also look to other industries for inspiration. See what names they're using and see if you can adapt them for your own purposes.

Should You Trademark Your App Name?

homework app name ideas

A trademark is a legal protection that you can use to protect your app's name from being used by other companies. It is a way to ensure that no one else can use your name without your permission. This can be important for protecting your brand image and preventing others from stealing your hard work

When you trademark your app's name, you essentially register it with the government. This gives you exclusive rights to use that name in connection with your app. Anyone who tries to use it without your permission can be sued for trademark infringement.

It's important to note that trademark protection is not automatic. You need to file a formal application with the government and meet certain requirements in order to receive trademark protection. It's also important to keep track of any changes that occur in the marketplace, as these could affect your trademark protection.

The Different Types of Trademark

A trademark is a word, symbol, or design that identifies and distinguishes your company's goods from those made by others. Product trademarks fall into five categories: generic mark, descriptive mark, suggestive mark, fanciful mark, and arbitrary symbol.

Generic Mark

A generic mark is a word or phrase describing a product type rather than a specific brand. For example, "computer" is a generic mark for computers, and "coffee" is a generic mark for coffee.

Descriptive Mark

A descriptive mark is a word or phrase that describes a product's ingredient, feature, function, or quality. For example, "Intel Inside" is a descriptive mark for computers that contain Intel processors.

Suggestive Mark

A suggestive mark is a word or phrase that suggests, rather than describes, a quality or characteristic of a product. For example, "Tasty Treats" is a suggestive mark for a line of dog treats.

Fanciful Mark

A fanciful mark is a made-up word or phrase that has no connection to the goods it represents. For example, "Kodak" is a fanciful mark for cameras and film.

Arbitrary Symbol

An arbitrary symbol is a common word or phrase that has no connection to the goods it represents. For example, "Apple" is an arbitrary symbol for computers.

When Should You Trademark Your App Name?

There are two main reasons to trademark your app's name: to protect your brand and to prevent others from using your name without your permission.

If you don't trademark your app's name, anyone could start using it without your consent. This could lead to confusion in the marketplace and damage your reputation. It could also make it difficult for you to enforce your rights if someone does infringe on your trademark.

Trademarking your app's name can also be important for attracting investors and partners. A strong trademark can help you build a recognizable brand that people will trust. This can make it easier to get funding and find strategic partnerships.

How to Trademark Your App Name

  • The first step in trademarking your app's name is to choose a mark that is eligible for protection.
  • The mark must be distinctive and not descriptive of the goods or services it represents to be eligible.
  • Once you have chosen a mark, you need to file a formal application with the government. The application must include a description of the mark and what goods or services it will be used for. - You will also need to pay a filing fee.
  • After you have filed your application, the government will review it to make sure it meets all the requirements. If it does, they will issue a certificate of registration. This will give you exclusive rights to use the trademarked app name.

Enforcing Your Trademark Rights

If someone infringes on your trademark, you can take legal action to stop them.

  • To do this, you will need to show that you have a valid trademark and that the infringing party is using it without your permission.
  • You can also send a cease and desist letter to an infringing party. This is a formal request for them to stop using your trademark. If they don't comply, you can take them to court.

Taking legal action can be costly and time-consuming. It's often best to avoid infringement in the first place by registering your trademark. This will give you the exclusive right to use your app's name and make enforcing your rights easier if someone violates them.

The process of trademarking your app's name can be complex. But it's important to protect your brand and prevent others from using your name without your permission. By taking the time to file a formal application, you can ensure that you have the exclusive right to use your app's name and build a strong, recognizable brand.

Examples of Great App Names

Inspiring yourself for a great app name is key to helping you decide on a name. Here are a few examples of brands and businesses that have done the naming process right.

Tinder is a dating app that has taken the world by storm. In just a few short years, it has become one of the most popular ways to meet new people. One of the things that makes Tinder so special is its name. When you hear the word "Tinder," you probably think of something that lights a fire. And that's exactly what Tinder does - it ignites a spark between two people who are looking for love. But there's more to Tinder than just its clever name.

The app's branding is also a key part of its success. The company has used bright colors and playful fonts to create an eye-catching logo that perfectly embodies the fun and excitement of online dating. Tinder's branding is just one more example of how important a good name and logo can be for a business. By creating a unique brand identity, Tinder has set itself apart from the competition and established itself as a true powerhouse in the online dating space.

There's no question that Square is one of the most innovative companies in the payments space. One of the key factors in their success has been their willingness to experiment with new ideas, and that includes their branding. While some may see the name "Square" as a simple moniker for a company that helps businesses accept credit card payments, there's actually a lot more to it. For one thing, the name is a play on the company's original product; a small square-shaped device plugged into a mobile phone.

The name was also intended to convey the idea that Square was a different kind of payments company that was more nimble and customer-friendly than its entrenched competitors. And while the company has since expanded beyond its original product, the square icon remains an important part of its brand identity. All of this goes to show that there's more to a brand than just a name.

A truly successful brand is one that conveys meaning and evokes emotion, and Square has definitely accomplished that with its branding.

Airbnb's app name is one that stands out for a number of reasons. Not only is it easy to remember and pronounce, but it also has a strong association with the brand. The word "air" conjures up images of travel and adventure, while the "bnb" suffix gives a sense of home away from home. This creates a powerful branding message that resonates with Airbnb's target audience. In addition, the app's name is highly searchable, making it more likely to be found by potential users.

From a marketing perspective, Airbnb's app name is a savvy choice that reflects the company's values and mission. It is an excellent example of how a strong brand can be created through thoughtful naming.

When you hear the word "Venmo," you probably think of the popular mobile payment app. But have you ever wondered how the app got its name? The story behind the Venmo name is actually quite interesting. According to the company, the name is a combination of the words "vendor" and "money." The brand wanted to convey that its app was a convenient way to pay for goods and services.

When it comes to branding, Venmo has definitely done its homework. The name is highly memorable, and the logo is simple yet effective. In addition, the branding reflects the company's youthful and modern image, and this is likely intentional, given that its target market is millennials. And it seems to be working - Venmo is one of the most popular payment apps on the market today.

What can we learn from Venmo's success? First, a catchy and unique name can go a long way in making an app stand out. Second, that simple and effective branding can help to boost downloads and brand recognition. Lastly, targeting a specific demographic can be key to success. All of these lessons can be applied to any business - not just apps - so keep them in mind next time you're looking to create a new brand or product!

Pinterest's app name is simple and to the point: Pinterest. And that's one of the things that makes it so unique and interesting. There are no frills or long, complicated names here. Just a simple, straightforward word that tells you exactly what the app is all about.

And that's precisely what Pinterest is all about: pinning images and ideas that inspire you. The app's colorful and minimalist branding helps to reinforce this message. Everything from the logo to the color scheme is designed to be eye-catching and visually appealing. But more than just being pretty to look at, Pinterest's branding communicates what the app is all about: simplicity, inspiration, and fun.

What can we learn from Pinterest? Well, first of all, a brand doesn't need to be overly complicated or fussy. Sometimes, the simplest approach is the best one. Secondly, even a small detail like an app name can play a big role in shaping perceptions of a brand. And finally, Pinterest is a great example of how effective branding can be used to communicate a clear and compelling message.

Slack is a communication app that has become increasingly popular in recent years, especially in the business world. One of the things that make Slack stand out is its name. Slack's name is unique and catchy, unlike many other apps with generic or descriptive names. It's also easy to remember, which is helpful when people are searching for it in app stores.

In addition to its unique name, Slack has been clever with its branding. Its logo is simple but recognizable, and its website and marketing materials use a clean and modern aesthetic. This branding has helped Slack to stand out in a crowded market, and it's something that other businesses can learn from. When it comes to naming and branding, simplicity and memorability are key.

Uber. It's a simple, one-word name that stands out in a sea of complex app names. And it's not just the name that's simple; the branding is straightforward as well. Uber's logo is a clean, modernist U, and the app interface is uncluttered and easy to use. But beyond its aesthetic appeal, what can we learn from Uber's branding?

For one thing, Uber's branding demonstrates the power of simplicity. A clear and concise message can be hugely impactful in a world where we are bombarded with information. By keeping its name and branding short and sweet, Uber cuts through the noise and gets its message across loud and clear.

Secondly, Uber's branding shows us the importance of being memorable. With so many apps out there vying for attention, it's crucial to have a name and logo that stick in people's minds. And what could be more memorable than a one-word name? By having a name that is both unique and easy to remember, Uber ensures that it will stay top of mind for potential users.

Finally, Uber's branding highlights the importance of being relevant. In order to be successful, businesses need to ensure that their products and services are relevant to their target audience. And with its on-demand transportation services, Uber has identified a need that is particularly relevant to today's consumers. By understanding the needs of its target market and delivering a product that meets those needs, Uber has established itself as a leader in the ride-hailing space.

If you've ever used a ride-sharing app, you're probably familiar with Lyft. And even if you haven't used the app, you've likely seen their distinctive pink mustache logo. But have you ever wondered about the meaning behind the app's name?

Lyft is actually a play on the word "lift." And according to the company, it's meant to represent the idea of lifting people up literally and figuratively. In other words, Lyft is about more than just getting people from one place to another. It's about making people's lives better.

This message is reflected in the company's branding, which is all about positivity and community. And it's something we can all learn from. Too often, businesses focus on greed or competition. But Lyft shows us that it's possible to be successful while also making a positive difference in the world. That's a lesson we could all stand to learn.

A strong app name is essential for standing out in a crowded marketplace and can significantly influence the app's success.

The naming process begins with understanding the app's purpose, functionality, and target audience, as well as researching the competition.

Brainstorming sessions, utilizing synonyms, and combining different words are effective methods for generating creative name ideas. Online name generators can also spark inspiration.

Legal considerations, including trademark searches, domain availability, and securing social media handles, are crucial to avoid future legal issues and ensure a cohesive online presence.

Testing the app name with potential users through feedback, surveys, A/B testing, and focus groups provides valuable insights into the name's appeal and effectiveness.

Finalizing the app name involves considering feedback, legal checks, and strategic thinking. It's also important to invest in a strong visual identity to enhance the brand.

Case studies of successful and renamed apps highlight the impact a well-chosen name can have on an app's recognition and success.

Flexibility is important if the chosen name is already taken or doesn't resonate as expected. Renaming an app after launch can benefit the brand if done correctly.

Budgeting for naming and branding should account for trademarking, domain registration, and creating visual assets, prioritizing based on business goals.

The journey to naming an app is a blend of creativity and strategy, setting the foundation for the app’s identity and market presence.

Creating a catchy and memorable name for your app is not just an exercise in creativity; it's an essential step in the journey towards your app's success. The right name can catch your potential user's eye, make your app stand out in the crowded marketplace, and significantly influence the overall perception and professionalism of your app. Let's dive into the intricacies of app naming and set the foundation for your app's success.

When kicking off the journey to finding the perfect name for your app, it's crucial to lay down what makes a good app name. Successful app names typically share a few common characteristics:

Memorability : The name should be easy to remember at first glance. Uniqueness and simplicity play key roles here.

Relevance : A good name gives clues about the app's purpose or its core functionality, making it intuitively appealing to the target audience.

Catchiness : Names that have a ring to them tend to stick in users' minds. A catchy name can also encourage word-of-mouth marketing.

Brevity : Short names are not only easy to remember but are also easier to search for and fit well on app icons.

The name is a pivotal part of your app's branding and marketing strategy, serving as a succinct representation of your app's identity. It transcends being merely a label and becomes a tool in crafting the narrative around your app.

Before diving into the brainstorming session, it's essential to have a clear view of what your app does, whom it serves, and the landscape it will navigate. Here are the first steps in the app naming process:

Understanding your app's core functions, its unique selling propositions, and the problems it solves will help in ideating names that are relevant and meaningful. It's about distilling the essence of your app into a word or a phrase.

Knowing who your app is for is pivotal. Different demographics and target users have varying preferences and cultural references. A name that resonates well with teenagers might not have the same effect on middle-aged professionals.

A deep dive into your competitors' names can serve two purposes: ensuring your app stands out and avoiding names that are overly similar, which could confuse potential users. This step not only fuels inspiration but also helps in positioning your app distinctly in the marketplace.

The initial groundwork lays the cornerstone for the naming journey. It ensures that your creative process is informed, targeted, and aligned with your app's overall strategy.

Let's pause here. Would you like to continue with the next sections of the blog post?

Embarking on the creative journey to name your app can be both exciting and daunting. Here are key strategies to help guide your brainstorming process and make the most of online name generators.

The quintessential method for generating app names, brainstorming allows for the free flow of ideas, no matter how unconventional. Consider the following approaches:

Mind Mapping : Start with your app's core function at the center and branch out with related words, benefits, emotions, and even puns.

The Thesaurus is Your Friend : Look up synonyms for words closely tied to your app's purpose. Unexpected inspirations can often come from diverse linguistics.

Mix and Match : Combine different words and concepts related to your app. Sometimes, a compelling name is a hybrid, capturing multiple facets of your app.

Hold your brainstorming sessions with a diverse group if possible, as varied perspectives can significantly enrich the process.

Online name generators can spark creativity or even hit the nail on the head with the perfect name suggestion. Sites like Typli offer algorithm-powered suggestions based on keywords related to your app. While these tools are convenient and can provide a broad range of options, it's essential to use them as part of a broader brainstorming strategy rather than the sole source of your app's name.

As you narrow down your potential app names, it's crucial to consider legal ramifications to avoid future hurdles.

Searching for Trademarks : Utilize databases like the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to ensure your name isn't already trademarked in your app’s category.

Domain Availability : Your app's name ideally should be your website's URL. Check domain availability to ensure your app's online presence is cohesive.

Secure Social Media Handles : In today's digital landscape, having consistent social media handles is as crucial as your domain. Quick checks on major platforms can save a lot of headaches later on.

Addressing these legal considerations early in the naming process helps secure your app’s name and brand, offering a smooth path to launch and scaling.

With a shortlist of potential names in hand, it's time to test their viability and appeal.

Soliciting Feedback : Share your app name ideas with potential users, industry peers, and friends to gather impressions and preferences.

Surveys and A/B Testing : Online tools allow you to conduct more formalized testing among your target audience, providing quantitative insights into the appeal of different names.

Focus Groups : For a deeper dive, focus groups can discuss the nuances of each name, providing qualitative data on the name's resonance, memorability, and relevance.

This feedback loop is invaluable, offering real-world responses that can significantly influence your final decision.

Choosing the final name for your app involves a blend of intuition, feedback, and strategic thinking. Ensure that the name reflects your app’s essence, appeals to your target audience, and stands out in the marketplace. After making the selection, take the necessary steps to register the name and consider pairing it with a strong visual identity to further strengthen your brand.

Examining both successes and failures in app naming can provide valuable lessons. Consider the impact of names like "Tinder" or "Spotify," which have become synonymous with their respective services, showcasing the power of memorable and unique naming. On the flip side, rebrands like "Snapchat" from its original name "Picaboo" demonstrate how a name change can propel an app to global recognition when the original name doesn't fully capture the app's potential.

How to pivot if your chosen name is already taken? Explore variations or go back to the drawing board with your brainstorming insights. Flexibility is key.

Can changing an app's name after launch be beneficial? Yes, if the original name limits growth or fails to resonate. However, consider the impact on your brand and user base.

How much should you budget for naming and branding? Investment varies, but securing a domain, trademarking, and creating visual assets are considerations. Prioritize based on your business model and scaling goals.

The journey to naming your app is both a creative endeavor and a strategic process. It sets the stage for your app’s identity, branding, and market position. By carefully navigating through brainstorming, legal checks, and audience testing, you can choose a name that captivates and endures. Remember, the name is just the beginning; building a great app experience is what turns a great name into a legendary brand.

For further exploration into branding and naming, consider resources like "Hello, My Name Is Awesome: How to Create Brand Names That Stick" by Alexandra Watkins or websites like Brand New for branding and identity insights. We know that homework can be a real drag. It’s time-consuming, and can be difficult to complete all on your own. So, what can you do if you’re struggling?

You might try looking online or in the app store! If you’ve already looked around you probably know that there are tons of homework sites for students and homework apps out there that all say they can help you improve your grades and pass your classes. But, can you trust them? And what are the best apps for homework help?

Below, we answer these questions and more about homework help apps–free and paid . We’ll go over:

  • The basics of homework help apps
  • The cost of homework help apps
  • The five best apps for homework help
  • The pros and cons of using apps that help you with homework

  • Tips for getting the most out of homework sites for students

So let’s jump in!

The Basics About Apps that Help You With Homework–Free and Paid

The bottom line is, homework sites and homework apps are intended to help you complete your take-home assignments successfully. They provide assistance that ranges from answering questions you submit through a portal all the way to one-on-one tutoring, depending on the help you need!

The big plus for both homework help apps and websites is that they usually offer help on-demand. So if you can’t make it to after school tutoring, or if you're studying late into the night (it happens!), you can still access the help you need!

If you’re specifically looking for an answer to the question: “what is the best homework help website ?,” you can check out our article on those here! [LINK COMING SOON]

What’s the Difference Between a Homework Help Website and an App?

So if they’re both designed to give you a little boost with your take-home assignments, what makes homework apps and websites different from one another? First off, homework help websites are optimized to be used on a desktop, while apps are designed to be run natively on mobile devices. So depending on which devices you have access to, you may decide to use a website instead of an app
or vice versa!

The other big difference between homework help apps and websites is that they sometimes offer different features. For instance, with the Photomath app, you’ll be able to submit photos of math problems instead of having to type everything out, which is easier to do by using an app on your phone.

If you’re trying to decide whether to go with a website or app, the good news is that you may not have to. Some homework help websites also have companion apps, so you can have the best of both worlds!

What Makes a Homework Help App Worth Using

Apps that help you with homework should ideally help you actually learn the material you’re struggling with, and/or help you turn in your work on time. Most of the best apps for homework help allow you to ask questions and provide answers and explanations almost immediately. And like we mentioned earlier, many of these apps let you send a picture of a question or problem instead of writing it all out.

But homework help apps offer more than just quick answers and explanations for your assignment questions. They also offer things like educational videos, lectures, tutorials, practice tests and quizzes, math solving tools, proofreading services, and even Q&A with experts.

And the best part is, most offer these services 24/7!

What You Should Look Out For

When it comes to homework help, there are lots–and we mean lots –of apps willing to prey on desperate students. Before you download any apps (and especially before you pay to sign up for any services), read reviews of the app to ensure you’re working with a legitimate company.

Keep in mind: the more a company advertises help that seems like cheating, the more likely it is to be a scam. Actual subject matter experts aren’t likely to work with those companies. Remember, the best apps for homework help are going to help you learn the concepts needed to successfully complete your homework on your own.

If you’re not sure if an app is legitimate, you can also check to see if the app has an honor code about using their services ethically , like this one from Brainly. (We’ll go over the difference between “homework help” and “cheating” in more detail a little later!)

How Expensive Are Apps That Help You With Homework?

A word to the wise: just because a homework help app costs money doesn’t mean it’s a good service. And, just because a homework help app is free doesn’t mean the help isn’t high quality. To find the best apps, you have to take a close look at the quality and types of information they provide!

Most of the apps out there allow you to download them for free, and provide at least some free services–such as a couple of free questions and answers. Additional services or subscriptions are then charged as in-app purchases. When it comes to in-app purchases and subscriptions for homework help, the prices vary depending on the amount of services you want to subscribe to. Subscriptions can cost anywhere from $2 to around $60 dollars per month, with the most expensive app subscriptions including some tutoring (which is usually only available through homework help websites.)

The 5 Best Apps for Homework Help

Okay, now that you’re up to speed on what these apps are and how they can help you, we’ll run you through the best five apps you can use.

Keep in mind that even though we recommend all of these apps, they tend to excel at different things. We’ve broken these apps into categories so that you can pick the best one for your needs!

Best Free Homework Help App: Khan Academy

  • Price: Free!
  • Best for: Practicing tough material

While there are lots of free homework help apps out there, this is our favorite because it actually supports learning, rather than just providing answers. The Khan Academy app works like the website, and offers the same services. It’s full of information and can be personalized to suit your educational needs.

After you download the app, you choose which courses you need to study, and Khan Academy sets up a personal dashboard of instructional videos, practice exercises, and quizzes –with both correct and incorrect answer explanations–so you can learn at your own pace.

As an added bonus, it covers more course topics than many other homework help apps, including several AP classes.

Best Paid Homework Help App: Brainly

  • Price: $18 for a 6 month subscription, $24 for a year
  • Best for: 24/7 homework assistance

Brainly is free to download and allows you to type in questions (or snap a pic) and get answers and explanations from both fellow students and teachers. Plus, subject matter experts and moderators verify answers daily, so you know you’re getting quality solutions! The downside is that you’re limited to two free answers per question and have to watch ads for more if you don’t pay for a subscription.

That said, their subscription fees average around only $2 per month, making this a particularly affordable option if you’re looking for homework help on a budget. Brainly subscriptions not only cover unlimited answers and explanations on a wide variety of school subjects (including Art and World Languages which aren’t always included in other apps), they also provide tutoring in Math and Physics!

body-photomath-logo-2

Best App for Math Homework Help: Photomath

  • Price: Free (or up to $59.99 per year for premium services)
  • Best for: Explaining solutions to math problems

This app allows you to take a picture of a math problem, and instantly pulls up a step-by-step solution, as well as a detailed explanation of the concept. Photomath subscription services also include animated videos that break down mathematical concepts–all the way up to advanced Calculus!--to help you better understand and remember them.

The basic textbook solution service is free, but for an additional fee you can get extra study tools, access to one-on-one tutoring, and additional strategies for solving common math problems.

Best App for STEM and English Homework Help: Studypool

  • Price: Varies; you’ll pay for each question you submit
  • Best for: Science and English homework help in one app

When it comes to apps for science and English homework help, there aren’t lots of great resources out there, much less out there all in one place. While Grammarly is a good service for proofreading, SparkNotes has some decent summaries, and Khan Academy covers science, the best of the bunch if you need help with both subjects Studypool. Instead of using lots of different apps for STEM and English help, they’re combined together here! But while Studypool has great reviews, there are some downsides as well.

The Studypool Q&A model is a little different than other homework help apps. After you create a free account, you ask questions, and tutors submit bids to answer them. You’ll be able to select the tutor–and price point–that works for you, then you’ll pay to have your homework question answered. You can also pay a small fee to access thousands of notes, lectures, and other documents that top tutors have uploaded.

The downside to Studypool is that the pricing is not transparent . There’s no way to plan for how much your homework help will cost, especially if you have lots of questions! It’s also not clear how they choose their tutors, so you’ll need to be careful when you decide who you’d like to answer your homework questions. That said, if you only need a few questions answered per month, this could be cheaper than other monthly subscription services.

Best Homework Scheduling App: MyStudyLife

  • Best for: Keeping track of your schedule and deadlines

If the reason you’re looking for homework help is less about finding answers to questions and more about needing assistance with organization and time-management , MyStudyLife is a great option. This is a cross-platform planner that allows you to store your class schedule, upcoming tests, and homework assignments in the cloud so you can access it all wherever you are, and on any device.

One of the unique things about it is that it easily works for daily or weekly rotating class schedules that can get confusing, helping you keep track of when you need to finish your homework based on your changing schedule. You can get reminders for upcoming classes and assignments as well as past-due homework and any revisions you may need to do. It can even let you know when you need to start studying for a big test!

Best of all, you can actually schedule assignments and study sessions for multiple nights, and specify how much of the task you got done each night. That way you’ll know how much additional time you’ll need to spend!

While homework apps might seem like magic, it's important to weigh the pros and cons before you commit to one.

What Are the Pros and Cons of Using Homework Help Apps?

Homework help apps can be useful tools if you’re struggling in any of your classes. But there are a few problems you might run into if you don’t use them ethically and responsibly.

Below we’ll cover some of the good and the not-so-good parts of using homework help apps to complete your take-home assignments.

3 Pros of Using Homework Help Apps

Let’s start with the pros of using apps for homework help.

Pro 1: All-Around Better Grades

This is undeniably the main pro and the reason apps that help you with homework are so popular with students. Not only can you potentially get better grades on individual assignments, because they help you learn tricky concepts, you can also earn better grades overall .

Just keep in mind that if you want better grades you have to actually learn the material you’re studying, not just find easy answers. So be sure to use apps that provide good explanations . That way you’ll have the mental tools you need to succeed on your class exams and on standardized tests for college.

Pro 2: Flexibility

It’s hard to beat homework help that you can access anywhere you are from your mobile device. You can also get assistance whenever you need it since the best apps offer their services 24/7. This is especially useful for students who need to study during hours when their free school resources aren’t available because of extracurriculars, jobs, or family obligations.

If you need convenient and flexible homework help or tutoring services to fit your schedule, apps can be your go-to resource.

Pro 3: Individualized Learning

Sometimes the kind of learner you are doesn’t match your teacher’s style of teaching. Or maybe the pace of a class is a little too fast or too slow for your tastes. Homework apps can help by allowing you to learn at your own speed and in ways that support your own learning style.

You can use their features, such as educational videos, 24/7 conversations with experts and peers, and tutorials to review concepts you may have forgotten. These apps can also let you dive deeper into topics or subjects you enjoy! With homework help apps, you get to choose what you need to learn and how you learn it.

3 Cons of Using Homework Help Apps

Next, let’s look at the cons of homework help apps.

Con 1: Questionable Info

Unfortunately there are lots of less-than-reliable homework help apps out there. They might not hire actual experts in their fields to provide answers and create study tools, or they rely on user-submitted answers that they don’t verify. In those cases, you might not be getting the accurate, thorough, and up-to-date answers you need to really learn.

In addition to the possibility of running into plain-old wrong answers, even the best apps sometimes just won’t have a specific answer you need. This could be because you’re enrolled in an advanced class the app doesn’t really cover or because of the algorithm or chatbot a particular app uses.

If that’s the case , your best bet will likely be to talk to your teacher or a free tutor (if your school provides them) to get help answering your question.

Con 2: Information Overload

While having tons of information at your fingertips can be helpful, the sheer amount and variety of videos, tutorials, expert answers, and resources a homework app provides can be overwhelming . It’s also easy to get sucked into a research rabbit-hole where you learn new things but don’t actually get your work done. This is especially true for students who tend to be easily distracted.

Additionally, you may be learning to do things differently than you’ve learned them in class , which could cause problems. For example, if your math teacher asks you to solve a problem one way, but you learned to do it differently through an app, you could get confused come test time!

Con 3: Cutting Corners

There are a lot of apps out there that bill themselves as “the best app for cheating.” They allow users to type in a question or take a picture, then instantly provide an answer without any explanation of the material. Many of these are scams or provide unreliable answers, but not all. Some apps are legitimate and provide quick and easy answers that could allow you to do your whole homework assignment in minutes.

The problem is that even though taking shortcuts on homework to save time is tempting, it can keep you from really learning. The point of practicing concepts and skills is so you develop them and can access them whenever you need to. This is especially true if skills build on one another, like in a math or English class.

Sometimes s truggling with an assignment or question, trying, failing, then trying again until you succeed can help you learn difficult material. If you don’t let yourself really try, and instead take too many shortcuts, you may end up behind.

body-cheat-cheating-cc0

When Does “Help” Become “Cheating”?

When it comes to using homework help apps, sometimes the difference between “help” and “cheating” is really clear. For example, if you’re using an app to get answers while you’re taking a test, that’s definitely cheating . But what if you’re struggling with a math problem and need to know the correct answer so you can work backwards to learn the process? Is that “cheating” or is it “help?”

The truth is, not everyone agrees on when “help” crosses the line into “cheating .” If you’re not sure, you can always check with your teacher to see what they think about a particular type of help you want to get. That said, a general rule of thumb to keep in mind is to make sure that the assignment you turn in for credit is authentically yours . It needs to demonstrate your own thoughts and your own current abilities. Remember: the point of every homework assignment is to 1) help you learn something, and 2) show what you’ve learned.

So if you’re relying on an app to do all of the work for you, there’s a good chance using it might constitute cheating.

Think of it this way: say you’re studying for an upcoming math test, and are stumped by a few of the questions on the study guide. Even though you’ve tried and tried, you can’t seem to get the right answer because you can’t remember the steps to take. Using an app to explain the steps as you’re studying is “help.” Using the app to get answers so you can make a good homework grade is “cheating.”

The same is true for other subjects: brainstorming essay ideas with others or looking online for inspiration is “help” as long as you write the essay yourself. Having someone read it and give you feedback about what you need to change is also “help,” provided you’re the one that makes the changes later.

But copying all or part of an essay you find online or having someone write (or rewrite) the whole thing for you would be “cheating.” Ultimately, if you’re not generating your own work or learning to produce your own answers, it’s probably cheating.

5 Tips for Finding the Best Homework Help App for You

If you’re serious about using a homework help app, our expert tips can help you pick one that’s right for you and your budget!

#1: Decide What Tools You Need to Succeed

While most apps offer Q&A services, the best apps provide study tools to help you learn the material you need to learn .

For instance, if you’re a visual learner, you might need an app that provides lots of videos. If you learn best by reading, an app that provides lots of in-depth written resources might be better for you. Or, if you learn best by actually doing things, look for an app that provides practice tests and quizzes, along with explanations for correct and incorrect answers.

Before committing to an app, take a quick survey of the tools they offer users to make sure they meet your unique learning needs.

#2: Decide Which Subjects You Need to Study

Not all homework apps are created equal. One might provide tutoring in math and science, but no proofreading services to help you with writing. Another might be perfect for American History, but what you really need help with is your Spanish class. So, before you can decide which app is best for you, make sure to create a list of the subjects you need the most help in.

#3: Do Your Research

As we’ve said before, there are tons of homework apps in the app store to choose from, and the most important thing you can do is research what they offer students. Services, prices for those services, and subjects that the apps cover all vary, so it’s important that you look into your options. We’ve compiled our all-around favorite (and reliable) apps here, but it’s still a good idea to do your own research to find out what might meet your individual needs best.

body-five-star-best-number-one

#4: Learn Why People Like and Dislike the App

Maybe you’ve heard the phrase “buyer beware?” It means that the person buying something should check for quality before actually handing over their money. This applies to both free and paid homework apps, but especially those that actually cost money.

Before you download anything, be sure to read the user reviews . While all apps will have both positive and negative reviews, you want to look for one that has more positive than negative. And if you’re considering paying for a service, be sure that users think it’s worth the price overall!

#5: Budget Yourself

If you find a paid app that provides the learning tools you need, covers the subjects you need to study, and that has good reviews overall, set a budget to pay for it before you hit that “install” button. The costs for paid homework apps vary, and especially if you’re using one that requires you to pay for individual questions or services, the prices can add up quickly. So make sure there’s money for it in your budget before you commit!

How to Name Your Mobile App?

Mobile Apps are the best way to reach your customers and make them aware of your business. But, naming a mobile app is not an easy task. You need to think about how you want your users to remember it. It should be catchy, short, simple, and meaningful.

In this section, we will discuss some important points that you must consider while naming your mobile apps.

An app name is one of the most important things to consider when creating an app. If you don’t have a good app name, then you won’t get any downloads. So, here’s a list of tips on how to choose the perfect app name.

Brainstorm Your Name Ideas

Before starting with the brainstorming process, you need to know what kind of app you are going to create. For example, if you are planning to build a travel app, then you can use the word “Travel” in your app name. Or, if you are building a food delivery app, then you can name it “FoodCat”.

You can also use the names of your products or services for your app. For example, if your company sells shoes, then you can name your app “Shoes”.

Now, let’s move forward with the brainstorming process.

Think About Your Audience

The first thing you need to do before choosing the name for your app is to understand who your audience is. This will help you in deciding what kind of app you want to create. For example, if you’re planning to develop an educational app, then you can use words like “learn”, “teach” or “study”.

The first thing you want to do is figure out who your audience is. What kind of apps would they download? What type of apps would they prefer? Once you know who your audience is, you can come up with a better app name.

Know your goals

Before you start thinking about the app name, you need to decide what exactly you want from your app. Do you want to attract new customers? Or do you want to increase sales? Whatever your goal is, you need to clearly define it.

Once you’ve decided what your goal is, you’ll be able to find a suitable app name. For example, if your goal is to attract new customers, then you can use keywords such as “free”, “download” or “app”.

If you want to increase sales, then you can use terms like “promo code”, “discounts” or “deals”.

Think About Your Niche

You also need to think about your niche. What is your target market? Who are your competitors? Knowing these details will help you in coming up with a unique app name.

For example, if you’re developing an e-commerce app, then you can select names like “Shopify”, “amazon”, “eBay” etc.

Analyze Your Existing Competitors

Another tip is to analyze your existing competitors. Find out which ones are popular among their users. Then, try to come up with something similar to those names.

This will give you ideas about what people might search for. Also, it will help you in coming up with a more relevant app name.

Look for Inspiration Elsewhere

Sometimes inspiration comes from unexpected places. You may see a movie title, song lyrics, or even a book title. These titles can inspire you to come up with a great app name.

Try to combine all three elements mentioned above. Choose a name that has meaning, is catchy, and is memorable.

Don’t Use Generic Words

Generic words are those which describe something without giving much information. They are usually used by companies to promote their products. However, generic words are not appropriate for mobile apps because people expect more than just a product description.

So, avoid using generic words like “product”, “service”, “software” etc. Instead, try to use specific words that give more information.

Use Short, Simple, and Easy to Spell Phrases

When naming your app, keep in mind that people usually search for apps using keywords. Therefore, you should try to include those keywords in your app name. Also, you should avoid long phrases as these may confuse your users.

You should also avoid using too many special characters. Special characters are used for different purposes such as mathematical symbols, punctuation marks, etc.

You want to keep your app name short, simple, and easy to spell. This makes it easier for users to remember and search for your app.

Make Sure Your App Name Is Unique

If you want to increase the chances of getting more downloads, then you need to make sure that your app name is unique. The uniqueness factor plays a major role in increasing the number of downloads.

It is very difficult to find two similar names. However, if you have a unique app name, then you’ll be able to attract more users.

If there are other apps with the same name, then you’ll lose potential customers. Make sure your app name is unique so that no one else uses it.

Don’t Use Exact Matching Phrases

There are times when you might want to use exact matching phrases. These phrases are used by Google and Apple to match the content of your app.

For example, if you’re developing an app related to sports, then you can use the phrase “sports app”. Similarly, if you’re developing a travel app, then you can say “travel app”.

When choosing an app name, avoid using exact matching phrases. These include words like “app”, “apps”, “application”, etc.

You may think these will help people find your app faster, but in reality, they’re just confusing.

Avoid Using Numbers or Symbols

Numbers and symbols are not allowed in app names. You shouldn’t use numbers or symbols because they’re hard to read. They may also cause problems during the submission process.

Also, avoid using numbers or symbols in your app title. It’s best to stick to lowercase letters only.

Include Keywords

Keywords play a vital role in helping users find your app. When choosing an app name, make sure you include relevant keywords.

You can use keywords from your website, social media accounts, and blog posts. If you don’t have any of these, then you can simply use generic keywords.

You should always choose keywords that are relevant to your app. For example, if your app helps people learn how to cook, then you can use cooking-related keywords.

Choose A Good Domain Name

A domain name is what shows up when someone types in a web address into their browser. It’s basically like your company’s website. When selecting a domain name, try not to use anything too long. The longer your domain name, the more expensive it will be.

The most important thing about a domain name is that it must be memorable. People should be able to easily recall it.

Consider Adding Extra Words

Adding extra words to your app name increases its chances of being found on mobile devices.

Adding extra words to your app name can make it sound more interesting. For example, you could add “for iPhone” to your app name. Or, you could add “free”.

Be Creative!

Your app name doesn’t have to be boring. Try adding some creativity to it. This way, you’ll stand out among all the other apps.

There are many different ways to come up with an app name. Try thinking about something fun, exciting, or unusual. Also, look at famous movies, songs, books, tv shows, sports teams, celebrities, etc.

App names are important. They’re the first impression people get of your product, and they set the tone for everything else that happens after. So, if you’re looking to start a new project, or just trying to figure out what to call your current one, you might want to consider these tips.

The first step is to brainstorm. Think about what kind of apps you’d like to create. What would you like to accomplish? What problems does your idea solve?

After you’ve thought about those things, write them down. Then, look around for other apps that share similar goals.

For example, if you’re working on an app for kids, you might want to check out kid-friendly apps already on the market. Or, if you’re creating an app for parents, you might want to see what others have done.

You can also search by category. For example, if you’re building an app for fitness, you might want to find apps that target specific types of workouts.

6 Homework Apps to Help Keep You Organized

homework apps

Managing everything you have to do as a student can seem like a full-time job. With so many classes, activities, club meetings, and homework assignments thrown at you every day, it can be very overwhelming to keep track of it all.

Luckily, there are some great homework apps you can install on your phone or tablet that can help you know what classes you have coming up each day and stay on top of all of your assignments.

Here are six of our favorites. We hope these help you stay organized all year long!

Although the myHomework app supports traditional school schedules as well as block schedules, it does not support alternating block schedules, so if you have an A/B schedule, this is probably not the app for you.

  • My Study Life This app is a full-fledged homework management app with its own web application, which is awesome because you can check your assignments from your computer or your phone. Plus, the calendar view shows all of your classes and assignments at the same time, and it shows you incomplete tasks that are due soon so you know what to work on first. The design is unique, too, with circles showing what percentage of a task is completed and how much more you have to go. Available for: iPhone, Android, Windows 8, Windows Phone and the web. Requires iOS 8.0 or later. Cost: Free

Another cool feature is that you can organize all of your assignments by date, course or priority, and you can sort them by pending and completed as well. Other bonus features include the ability to add contact info for all of your teachers and the ability to enter your grades so you can track how your GPA is doing.

Unfortunately, none of the apps listed above will actually do your homework for you — that part’s still up to you — but at least they’ll make it more likely that you’ll get it finished on-time and stress-free.

The organization was established over 50 years ago and works “to change the trajectory of high-potential Black youth by providing unique programming in the classroom and beyond.” Their scholars complete a four-year fellowship that includes academic enrichment, leadership development, career exposure, mentoring and college access.

Students must maintain a grade point average near 3.0 to remain in good standing with the organization — a bar the organization sets knowing full well that access to scholarships and grants for college will be the only way that most of its students can afford to go. Not all students meet this threshold despite mentoring from caring adults and strong support from administrative staff. Thus additional academic supports are needed.

Over many years, EE provided programs to help get students back on track if they started to flounder and to establish academic habits that put them on a trajectory for success. We started by offering weekly group tutoring events at the organization’s facility that not only helped students with homework completion and exam prep but also provided lessons on learning strategies, goal setting, and self-advocacy. However, traveling to the facility after school was a burden for some scholars, so EE tutors also met students at libraries and other public locations to provide support in specific subject areas where students requested help. Year after year we met with administrators and added additional resources: a summer school study skills workshop for freshmen and final exam prep workshops for all grade levels. Our unique array of programs allowed the organization to support their scholars at every stage of their academic journey.

The mission of the organization is to fight for economic mobility among highly motivated, first-generation college students by providing mentoring and intensive career development. The agency was founded on the belief that socioeconomic status should not be a barrier to college persistence and career success.

Their staff found that many of their participants were struggling with writing assignments of all sorts in college. From essays in English class to writing cover letters for potential summer internships, many students were not effective writers. The organization provided various career development workshops throughout the academic year, but they lacked a writer’s workshop to specifically address this area of weakness.

We met with program managers and the executive director to discuss their students’ needs and what type of program would be beneficial. The Writer’s Practice Workshop was an ideal fit for them. The course allowed students to understand that everyone is a writer even if they don’t think of themselves as such. Over the course of four sessions students assessed their own writing process; discussed the tools of a good writer’s practice; considered the audience, purpose, and the needs of any piece; and produced writing on topics that were important to them. Students left the workshop with a greater understanding of how to start assignments and follow steps to revise, edit, and polish for best results, giving them confidence in their writing.

The organization’s mission is to provide opportunities for underserved youth to achieve academic and personal success via financial, educational and personal support during their high school years. They provide tuition assistance to attend a high-quality school along with the guidance and commitment of caring, adult mentors. They aim to serve an often overlooked segment: academically “average” students from the city’s most challenging and underserved neighborhoods.

Program staff wanted to help their students prepare for final exams and train mentors to more effectively support students in their exam prep efforts. Volunteer mentors were available to give support, but the organization lacked a consistent approach on how best to help students and make them better learners.

EE met with program administrators and board members to plan and implement a Final Exams Workshop in the lead-up to final exams. The 3-hour workshop was attended by students and their mentors on a Saturday morning. The curriculum helped students create DIY study guides for any class, plan a study schedule, prioritize final exams by difficulty and need, assess and discuss their strengths and weaknesses in regards to learning strategies, and share with peers their successes or concerns. We also facilitated a conversation between mentors and mentees as to how they could best support their students in the coming weeks. Students and mentors left the workshop with a blueprint for attacking finals week in the most efficient way — a plan they could use for high school and college.

The organization supported immigrants and their families by connecting women from over 60 countries who share a dedication to the pursuit of global understanding and universal human rights. As part of their philanthropic arm, the organization supported a local elementary school they had identified as highly diverse with a large number of immigrant students. Before engaging EE, the organization relied mostly on volunteers to provide reading support to students during school hours.

After discussions with the organization and the school principal, teachers, families, and other stakeholders, we developed a school year calendar of after school programs that would help students develop the skills needed to succeed in elementary school and beyond. We provided courses for grades 5-8 in the spring and fall, greatly expanding the enrichment opportunities the NFP was able to provide. In doing so, we developed a close relationship with the school administration and their teaching staff, who saw the positive impact the program was having on their students. Additionally, the NFP was able to expand their mission to areas where they saw a great need: improving study skills, raising test scores, and increasing access to high school opportunities for immigrant youth.

A scholarship foundation funded by a suburban country club was disappointed with the caliber of student who typically applied for their college scholarship offerings. Knowing that the skills needed for success in college must be cultivated from an early age, they wanted to establish a summer enrichment program for students entering 9th and 10th grade that would serve as an early intervention and better position the pool of applicants when the time came a few years later to apply for the college scholarships.

We collaborated with the foundation to identify areas of strength and weakness in their applicant pool and listened to their personal beliefs about what it takes to succeed in college. With that understanding, we customized a version of the Summer Learners’ Workshop that lays the foundation for college-level skills and caters to the learning styles and academic backgrounds of the particular students at this organization.

The resulting program has gained a reputation as one of the top summer enrichment experiences in that community with parents routinely reporting that the results exceeded their expectations. The program is now attended by an even wider array of students than those who were first targeted by the foundation.

A charter school network was seeking to implement a test prep program across eight campuses to prepare their 8th grade students for the Chicago Public Schools selective enrollment entrance exam. The high school admissions process is highly competitive, and it was the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic when students were learning from home. The schools did not have expert knowledge about the contents of the test, and finding staff at their schools to cover a program outside of school hours would be challenging. Administrators knew how competitive the admissions process was and that even their strongest students were not guaranteed a spot. For equity, they wanted to offer the course to all of their students – even those who were very unlikely to be admitted to a selective enrollment school.

Given the wide array of students, the EE team worked with individual school counselors to create ability groupings, determine a process for reporting attendance, progress, and behavior issues, and create a curriculum that would be effective in a remote learning model. We knew that remote engagement for an after school program would be a challenge, so we incorporated competitive team games, a leaderboard of accomplishments, and other incentives to encourage maximum participation. EE provided all management and instructional staffing to deliver the test prep course successfully while freeing up teachers and counselors at the charter school to focus on their daily workload. Students received a robust course focused on strategies, practice tests, and concept review that put them in the best position to maximize their potential on test day.

A leading scholarship fund that provides financial assistance for highly qualified, low-income students knew that financial aid alone would be insufficient to ensure their students’ success at rigorous private and parochial high schools. Therefore, they sought an intensive summer program to prepare scholars for what lay ahead.

EE worked with the organization to determine the biggest challenges scholars would face. We landed on a wide array of non-cognitive skills that are not necessarily taught in middle school: time management, organization, self-advocacy, focus, growth mindset, etc. Inspired by this challenge, we developed our Ideal Student Workshop, which would later become the basis for our Learners’ Workshop.

Over a decade later we are still delivering the program to students at this scholarship fund and others. The program works to develop the three dimensions of successful students: character, learning strategies and habits. We update the program yearly to keep up with changes in student needs and the educational landscape. Our fun and research-based curriculum continues to be a popular summer bridge for various organizations.

A prominent sports-based youth development organization wanted to improve one of the core elements of their program: providing educational enrichment programs to their participants.

Their goal was to offer a continuum of services for 9th-12th graders that would support students in their schoolwork, provide a pathway to college, and create a culture of learning amongst players. EE was uniquely positioned to offer a variety of services to meet this need: private tutoring, study skills classes, writing courses, high school admissions test prep, SAT/ACT prep, and college readiness seminars. We listened to the players, parents, and other stakeholders to determine which programs were most effective, established expectations for participants, and decided on the best timing and format to deliver the courses.

Since 2017 we have successfully delivered these services allowing their administrative team to focus on their primary coaching responsibilities. Ultimately, the best praise we have received is that we have provided a wide circle of caring adults to support students academically and emotionally and that we have listened to their needs and adapted our offerings to suit their participants.

Brainy is a lifesaver!!!!!

Brainly is a lifesaver. It is SOOOO helpful and my grades definitely wouldn’t be where they are now if it weren’t for Brainly. I struggle a bit in certain subjects and so if I need help I just go to Brainly and ask a question or search for a question others have asked and read explanations. You see, Brainly doesn’t just give you the answer, they give you a thorough step-by-step explanation that really helps you understand how to get to the correct answer. Helps me every time. I have paid $0 and I can still get so much homework assistance. I also really love Brainly AI because all you do is ask/scan the question and the AI gives you a PERFECT step-by-step explanation. I’ve tried other online [math] calculators that also give step-by-step explanations, but sometimes I don’t understand and just ask Brainly AI and I understand it much better. The best part is that you can use their AI for free :) I also really enjoy answering other people’s questions and I like how Brainly incorporates points and badges into the app because it keeps you motivated to ask questions and help other people as well. Great work! â€ïžđŸ“šđŸ“Žâœïž

Brainily plus subscription

I have been using the tutors to help me with some challenging questions for my math homework. Many have been very helpful but you’re only able to ask 20 questions a month. I have used 12/20 mostly because the tutors take me in then say they can’t solve the question and end the session. Because of this it has been using up the questions I can ask for this month. And when you loose connection it gets rid of all the tutors work and you have to ask a new tutor. Its really upsetting when you have waited to find out how to solve the question your struggling on for 10 or minutes to see oh you lost connection go find a new tutor. It happened to me once and all the other tutors gave me the wrong answer or said they didn’t know how to do it. One tutor was convinced what they got was the right answer but my teacher gives us the correct answers so we can check our work. I would have made a comment on it but then it said I lost connection. Which is really weird because I have really good wifi and it doesn’t say or do this on other apps. If this happens I wish there was a reconnect option. Just know when you sign up for brainly plus there is a chance the tutors won’t give you the correct answer. They are real people and won’t know how to do everything and can make minor mistakes within the problems. Just make sure you go through and check everything and that it makes sense to you before you end the session.

Developer Response ,

Hello there, We are sorry to hear that the Brainly Homework App did not meet your expectations. We're always looking to improve and we would greatly appreciate it if you could share with us your feedback. Whether it's about our math calculator, or any other issue, we're happy to help you at [email protected]

Ads loading forever and not showing up at all...

The app it’s self is really good and very helpful and I appreciate it very much but, Recently for the past 3 days whenever I’ve went into the app and had to watch an ad as usual, it would load for very a long time and never show up in the end no matter how long I waited. I even tried many things to see what the problem was. My connection was fine and I’ve tried to refresh, turn off or shut off my phone, logging in out logging back in, deleting the app and re-installing, and offloading the app. But with all the efforts I put in to make it work it never did. So I decided to go on the website instead and it worked perfectly fine the ads did show up and let me play them. So the problem seemed to be the app it’s self, but the only thing that is inconvenient about going to the website instead of the app, is it only gives me a limited amount of ads I can watch to get answers in a day. I’m not sure if I’m The only one with this problem but I believe since a couple days have passed this seem to be a really worrisome for me and difficult since I really like the app in general. So therefore, I would like to see and know if there’s anything I’m doing wrong or something that I need to do to make it work. Please and thank you for your value time.

7 Apps That Can Do Your Homework Much Faster Than You

7 Apps That Will Do Your Homework For You

In the field of educational technology, some apps might be getting too smart.

More and more apps are delivering on-demand homework help to students, who can easily re-purpose the learning tools to obtain not just assistance, but also answers. Whether or not that’s cheating—and how to stop it—is one of the concerns surrounding a new app that can solve math equations with the snap of a camera . While the software has inspired teachers to create real-world homework problems that can’t be automatically solved , that strategy doesn’t hold up to other apps that tap into real-life brains for solutions.

Here’s a look at 7 apps that can do your homework for you, and what they have to say about cheating:

Price : Free Availability : iOS, Android app coming in early 2015

The new, seemingly magic app allows users to take pictures of typed equations, and then outputs a step-by-step solution. As of Wednesday, the app is the number one free app on the App Store. But the biggest issue, one teacher argues , isn’t if students will use the app to cheat, because many will. Rather, it’s about how teachers will adapt. A PhotoMath spokeswoman said educators have welcomed the app with positive reviews, but the software remains “quite controversial.”

“We didn’t develop PhotoMath as a cheating tool. We really wanted kids to learn,” said Tijana Zganec, a sales and marketing associate at tech company MicroBlink, which created PhotoMath. “If you want to cheat, you will find a way to cheat. But if you want to learn, you can use PhotoMath for that.”

Whether you’re a high schooler with eight periods of classes or a college student tackling dozens of credits, there’s one thing you’ve got for sure: a mess of assignments. iHomework can help you keep track of all your work, slicing and dicing it in a variety of ways. Sorting it by due date, week, month, or by course, the app is more organized than a Trapper Keeper. And in integrating data from Questia, you can link your reading material to your assignments so you don’t have to dig through a pile of papers to find the right information.

A scheduling feature can help you keep track of those random bi-weekly Thursday labs, and you can even mark the location of your courses on a map so you don’t end up on the wrong side of campus. And finally, with iCloud syncing, you can access all this information on whatever Apple-compatible device you’re using at the moment — no need to dig for your iPad.

Google Apps for Education

Taking the search giant’s suite of free browser-based apps and sandboxing them so they are safe for school use, Google Apps for Education is an excellent alternative to the mainstream installable productivity software, but this one has a perk that almost school board will love—it’s free. Packaging together favorites like Gmail, Hangouts, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Drive with Classroom, a digital hub for organizing assignments and sending feedback, the goal of this collection is to make learning a more collaborative process.

Though Google Apps for Education is cloud-hosted, the programs can be used offline, ideal for when your student needs to escape the internet and work distraction-free. And since it works on any device, it also helps students avoid buying overly expensive hardware. That means more money for extracurricular activities.

Price: Free, but some homework services require payment Availability: iOS and Android

HwPic is a tutoring service that allows students to take send pictures of their homework to tutors, who will then respond within minutes to your questions with a step-by-step solution. There’s even an option to expedite the answers if a student is in a hurry. HwPic Co-Founder Tiklat Issa said that the app was initially rejected by Apple’s App Store, which believed it would promote cheating, but he successfully argued that just because someone uses the app in a way that it’s not meant to be used doesn’t mean the app should be punished.

Issa added that HwPic prohibits cheating in its terms and conditions. Tutors don’t solve homework that has words like “Quiz” or “Exam,” and they often know if a student is sending a photo during a test if they’ve paid for expedited answers, and if the photo is dim, blurry and taken under a desk. “We’ve minimized cheating,” said Issa. “We haven’t eliminated it. That’s kind of unrealistic.”

Wolfram Alpha

Price : $2.99 Availability : iOS and Android

Wolfram Alpha is similar to PhotoMath, only that it targets older students studying high levels of math and doesn’t support photos. The service also outputs step-by-step solutions to topics as advanced as vector calculus and differential equations, making it a popular tool for college students.

“It’s cheating not doing computer-based math, because we’re cheating students out of real conceptual understanding and an ability to drive much further forward in the math they can do, to cover much more conceptual ground. And in turn, that’s cheating our economies,” said Conrad Wolfram, Wolfram Research’s Director of Strategic Development, in a TEDx Talk . “People talk about the knowledge economy. I think we’re moving forward to what we’re calling the computational knowledge economy.”

Homework Helper

Price: Free Availability: iOS and Android

Chinese Internet search company Baidu launched an app called Homework Helper this year with which students can crowdsource help or answers to homework. Users post a picture or type their homework questions onto online forums, and those who answer the questions can win e-coins that can be used to buy electronics like iPhones and laptops.

The app has logged 5 million downloads, much to the dismay of many some parents who argue that the students spend less time thinking about challenging problems. A Homework Helper staffer admitted to Quartz , “I think this is a kind of cheating.”

Price: Free, but some homework services require payment Availability: iOS

Slader is a crowdsourcing app for high school and college students to post and answer questions in math and science. While students can post original homework for help, many questions in popular textbooks have already been answered on the app, according to Fast Company . An Illinois high school said earlier this year that it suspected students were using the service to cheat on their math homework.

Slader argues that it’s “challenging traditional ideas about math and education,” and said that the ideas behind its app “aren’t a write-off to teachers,” according to its blog . Slader told San Francisco media outlet KQED that it shouldn’t be dismissed as a cheating tool, but rather considered a way for students to access real-time help.

The Best Homework Apps For iPhone and iPad

By Justin Meredith 0 comments Last updated February 26, 2021

Today, we get to write about everyone’s favorite subject: Homework . More specifically, we’re going to talk about homework apps for iPhone and iPad.

Of course, most of us don’t actually get excited about homework. It’s boring, stressful, challenging, time-consuming, and lots of other adjectives that none of us like too much.

I hope, however, that by sharing some of these apps with you, you’ll be able to alleviate some of the negativity that’s attached to assignments. I’ll cover apps to help you schedule, solve, save, and prepare for your homework.

Let’s get started!

  • 1. myHomework: The ultimate homework planner
  • 2. Mathway: Get step-by-step solutions to your math homework
  • 3. Class Timetable: A beautiful way to view your class schedule
  • 4. Wyzant: Find a great tutor at a moment’s notice
  • 5. IELTS Essays: Take the pressure off of your essays
  • 6. Microsoft Lens: Save your notes, assignments, instructions, and more
  • 7. The Homework App: An alternative to myHomework
  • 1. Khan Academy: The ultimate learning resource
  • 2. Google Docs: Collaborate, write, and take notes for free
  • 3. Microsoft OneNote: The ultimate note-taking app for typed notes
  • 4. Wolfram Alpha: Every calculator ever in a single app
  • 5. Stack Exchange: Get answers in advanced subjects
  • 6. Apple Notes: The best note-taking app for handwritten notes

Start using the best homework apps for iPhone and iPad

The best homework apps for iphone.

First, we’re going to cover homework apps for iPhone. Many of these apps are available on iPhone and iPad, so be sure to download them to your device of preference.

I’m separating these apps based on how I suspect most of us use our iPhones vs. how we use our iPads. In other words, I’m going to be focusing on scheduling, calculating, and saving your homework on iPhone with the following apps.

Let’s start with a classic.

1. myHomework : The ultimate homework planner

myHomework is without a doubt the most popular homework app there is. If you only take one thing away from this article, it’s to download myHomework. I used this app through college and wish I had discovered it in high school.

homework app name ideas

myHomework combines your assignments and your class schedule into a single app. This allows you to use it to see when assignments are due, when classes are coming up, and how these two things relate to each other.

Even better, you can link assignments to your classes. And you can color-code your classes, too. This means that you’ll easily be able to see when assignments are due, what class they’re due for, and you can check these things on all of your devices (including a computer). You can even schedule recurring assignments and set reminders.

2. Mathway : Get step-by-step solutions to your math homework

Mathway is a great example of a tool that would only be possible in today’s day and age. It allows you to take a picture of your math homework (in any level or area of math) and instantly receive the answer.

While that’s a convenient way to get your homework done, it’s also not so great for learning. This is why Mathway also provides you with step-by-step directions on how to solve the problem. If you miss class, didn’t take enough notes, or are simply struggling to understand certain concepts, this can be a lifesaver.

Mathway even has a chatbot that you can interact with. You can ask it about certain types of problems, for definitions, and much more. It should be noted, though, that you’ll need to subscribe to the app for anything more than just getting the solution to a problem. If math is a major part of your coursework, however, it’s well worth the subscription.

3. Class Timetable : A beautiful way to view your class schedule

Like myHomework, Class Timetable allows you to enter your classes into a schedule and view them in a calendar. Unlike myHomework, however, you can view your courses in a much more visual and pleasing layout.

homework app name ideas

Rather than just listing out your classes and their times, Class Timetable shows you a visual calendar where your classes are represented by blocks. You can see how long classes are compared to one another in an instance and quickly see where your free time lies.

Class Timetable offers notifications, exporting, and more. It’s one of the prettiest apps for keeping track of your classes and can help you plan out your day way faster. It’s one of the best looking homework apps for iPhone to be sure.

4. Wyzant : Find a great tutor at a moment’s notice

As someone who has since left college, one of the resources I woefully ignored was tutoring. I was worried about embarrassing myself, admitting that I was struggling, and my grades suffered as a result.

This is why I think it’s super important for high schoolers and college students to use an app like Wyzant. Wyzant is like Yelp for tutors. You can quickly find tutors in your area, see their reviews, and message them to set up a meeting.

Wyzant hosts tutors for students in kindergarten through college. They even offer tutors for PSAT, ACT, SAT, LSAT, MCAT, GRE, and more. In other words, you’ll find someone who can help. And getting that help is so important that I had to include this on this list of homework apps for iPhone.

5. IELTS Essays : Take the pressure off of your essays

As someone who now writes for a living, I can confidently tell you that apps like IELTS Essays are a godsend. You can use this app and others like it to get past writers’ block and make essay writing less daunting.

homework app name ideas

IELTS Essays is an app that provides you with tips, advice, and examples for your essay writing. You can use it to come up with a response to a prompt, see how you should structure your essay, and brainstorm ideas.

The app even helps you outline your essay and polish your introduction. It’s a pretty simple app, but if you’re new to essay writing, the simple stuff can go a long way. It’s deserving of a spot on our best homework apps for iPhone.

6. Microsoft Lens : Save your notes, assignments, instructions, and more

Unlike everything else on this list of homework apps for iPhone so far, Microsoft Lens was not made specifically for homework. I doubt too many users even use it for this purpose. But I loved using it in college.

If you don’t know, Microsoft Lens is a simple app that allows you to quickly scan documents into your phone. You just point the in-app camera at a sheet of paper or whiteboard and snap a pic. It’ll automatically crop the image so that all you can see is the document. You can tweak the crop if you like as well as use it to edit photos in your Photos app.

You can save the photos you take with Microsoft Lens to your Photos app, Files app, export them as PDFs, and more. There are other apps like Microsoft Lens ( read here ) but Microsoft Lens is the one that’s stayed on my phone for years.

7. The Homework App : An alternative to myHomework

Ok, so I still think that myHomework is one of the best homework apps for iPhone. However, there are alternatives, and I’d be remiss not to suggest any. Just in case you end up not liking myHomework.

homework app name ideas

The Homework App is very similar to myHomework, with some slight adjustments. First, I think it’s a huge visual improvement. It looks way better, is much simpler, and all-around looks like an app made in 2021.

Second, The Homework App allows you to break your homework up into subtasks. For a basic assignment, this might not seem like a big deal. But when you’re working on a project that takes weeks and maybe even has graded milestones, this is an appreciated feature.

Third, you can add your instructors’ details to each of your assignments. This makes this app more of an all-in-one tool; you won’t be flipping back to your notes so often.

I recommend trying this out alongside myHomework and seeing which one better suits your needs.

The best homework apps for iPad

Next up, we have the best homework apps for iPad. As mentioned, these are going to differ slightly from the homework apps for iPhone, even though many of these apps are also available on iPhone.

In this list, I’ve tried to include apps related to note-taking, research, and studying, as I feel like these tasks are better suited to iPad users.

1. Khan Academy : The ultimate learning resource

First up on our list of homework apps for iPad is one of my favorite apps of all time: Khan Academy. If you don’t know what Khan Academy is, it’s a free education resource for pretty much everything. Any subject, question, course, or problem most likely has a resource on Khan Academy.

homework app name ideas

Khan Academy is a completely free app filled with lesson plans and video tutorials on everything. From basic math to calculus to chemistry to programming to English, there are Khan Academy courses that will teach and test you.

One of the best parts of Khan Academy is that it doesn’t care about grading you – its goal is to teach you. So it’ll keep helping you through a subject until you achieve mastery, not necessarily a good grade.

If you need a free alternative to a tutor, learn something new, or just keep your skills sharp, download this app.

2. Google Docs : Collaborate, write, and take notes for free

You probably already use Google Docs, but I couldn’t help but mention it in a homework context. If you already have a Google Account, then you already have free, unlimited access to Google Docs. It’s a robust word processor that you can use on all of your devices.

What makes Google Docs so great, though, is that it’s cloud-based. This means all of your assignments, notes, and essays are stored online for free. You’ll never lose the files. And you won’t be stuck using Apple Pages or Microsoft Word.

Additionally, Google Docs allows you to collaborate with other users on a doc in real-time, remotely. That means two people can be editing the same doc without needing to be in the same place. Super helpful for group notes or projects. It’s one of the staple homework apps for iPad.

3. Microsoft OneNote : The ultimate note-taking app for typed notes

If you prefer to type your notes like me, then OneNote is going to become one of your favorites. It’s a simple note-taking app that makes organization and layouts super easy.

First off, this app is separated by notebooks, which you can also divide into different sections. So a simple organization technique would be to have a notebook for each of your classes and then a new section of notes for each lecture. Everything can be color-coded as well, which is easy for quick identification.

Secondly, you can type anywhere, instantly. OneNote creates a new text box wherever you start typing. So you don’t have to take notes linearly. You can quickly add photos, too. In my opinion, this is superior to Apple Notes for anyone who prefers typed notes over handwritten ones.

4. Wolfram Alpha : Every calculator ever in a single app

Wolfram Alpha is one of those apps that you’ve probably used countless times without realizing. It has a web-based version that you can access at any time and that many websites incorporate into their own site. Like Google Images or Wikipedia, it’s just one of those internet things you bump into a lot.

homework app name ideas

Well, the Wolfram Alpha app for iPad is even better than the web version. The design is clean and simple, the features are extremely robust, and it contains everything you would ever need when it comes to calculators, graphs, and data.

In addition to its numerous calculators, Wolfram Alpha has features like hints, step-by-step solutions, an expanded keyboard, data pulled from websites, fitness information, and so much more. If the internet is like having a library in your pocket, this is like having every calculator in your pocket at once. It’s by far one of the best homework apps for iPad, and it’s only $2.99.

5. Stack Exchange : Get answers in advanced subjects

When I started college, I was surprised to find for the first time that I had questions Google couldn’t answer. The further you get into a particular study, especially if that study is complex, the harder it’s going to be to find information online. And you might have a professor that uses terms and concepts that are unique to them.

That’s where a forum like Stack Exchange can help you fill in the gaps. Similar to Reddit, Stack Exchange is a vote-based forum for people to ask and answer questions. Unlike Reddit, however, Stack Exchange is pretty serious. You’ll find that there are lots of rules, which can be tricky at first, but this creates a much more reliable resource in the end.

You can get educated and interactive answers on all kinds of topics. Many think that Stack Exchange is just for programming, but not so! Stack Exchange has forums dedicated to all kinds of disciplines and subjects, so you can find the one for your major and get personalized, educated advice to all of your questions. It’s like an upgrade for Google, which is why it’s made our list of homework apps for iPad.

6. Apple Notes : The best note-taking app for handwritten notes

I almost didn’t include this app since every iPad user already has this app and probably uses it. But just in case, I wanted to throw it out there.

By now, the majority of iPads have some form of Apple Pencil support. And thanks to iOS 14, that support includes handwritten text detection. This means that iPad can detect the words you write with the Apple Pencil and help you edit, spell check, and relocate your handwritten notes.

If you have an Apple Pencil and like to write your notes down, you should be taking notes in the Notes app. You can search your handwritten text, keep it stored and organized, and reduce the number of notebooks you’re carrying from class to class. And even if you like typing notes on your iPad, using the Notes app with the Apple Pencil makes it easy to include sketches and graphs with your notes.

And that’s all of the apps I have to suggest! I’ve used and loved most of these apps, and I hope that you do, too. They’re all great and useful and can make your school life so much easier. Not to mention that some of these apps can completely save your grade when you’re struggling.

Guide: How To Name Your Business

Why is your business name important.

Your business name is one of the single most important pieces to starting a business.

Because your business name has power.

It reflects your reputation, your mission, values, and represents what people (and customers) are searching for.

It impacts the way in which people remember, refer you, and perceive your business

When choosing your business name, there's a lot to think about in order to get it right - so it's important not to rush this process.

Let's take a look at everything you need to consider before deciding on a business name:

Tips To Consider When Naming Your Team Collaboration App:

Simple is always better

This means a few different things. Your team collaboration app name should always be:

  • Easy to spell
  • Easy to pronounce
  • Easy to remember

Consider avoiding long names as much as possible, as this will only lead your customers forgetting your name and feeling frustrated.

To test this point, try to think of any well-known reputable brand off the top of your head.

The first that come to mind for me are Alexa, Google, Nike, Apple - each unique in their own way (hence, easy to remember) , less than six characters and easy to spell.

Your Business Name Should Define What You Do

The name of your business should reflect a defining characteristic of what you do.

Before your customer goes to your website or speaks to you, the name of your business should spark some initial thoughts in their brain as to what you're all about.

For example, marketingexamples.com describes exactly what their company is about: providing great examples of marketing tactics.

Consider SEO When Naming Your Business

Bottom line: If you don't show up in google, you're going to make it that much more challenging for customers to find you.

There are several different aspects to think about when it comes to SEO & naming your team collaboration app:

  • Try not to pick a business name that's crowded with other businesses
  • Consider naming your business based on highly searched keywords
  • Make sure the name of your business matches search intent and what people are looking for

Think about the emotions you want to evoke

Your business name has the power to evoke certain emotions and thoughts from your customer.

It has the ability to evoke a positive or a negative feeling. An inclusive or an exclusive feeling. A fearful or a loving feeling.

It's not to say that any of these feelings are wrong, but it's important to ensure that they are in line with your values and mission.

For example, the brand Death's Door makes me feel a bit risky and uncertain - but that's the point. They're selling Gin.

Try Not To Pick Something Too Limiting

Your business name should be fitting for the future and growth of your business , that way you don't have to confront a re-brand down the road.

If you choose something too narrow, it may be challenging to diversify your product and revenue streams down the road.

Here are some tips to avoid making this mistake:

  • Try not to name the business after a particular geographical area (this makes it hard to grow in other areas)
  • Try not to name the business after only one product you sell
  • Try not to name something based on a current trend

Brainstorming Names For Your Business

If you're in the brainstorming phase and trying to come up with a business name, there are a few key things to think about in order to get the juices flowing:

  • Write out a list of words that reflect your brand, personality, team etc. These should be the first things that come to your mind and you shouldn't have to think too hard about it.
  • Look at competition in the space and see if there's a common theme. Write down some key words or phrases that resonate with you and add them to the list.
  • Think about the emotion you want to evoke with your business name
  • Ask yourself: If I had to describe my business in one word, what would it be?

From there, you can create a shortlist based on the words that resonate best with you and follow the naming guidelines above.

Tips on naming your business

In addition to the requirements from the State, there are some general naming guidelines that may help you down the road as well.

We've put together a full guide here for naming your business here but will also cover the most critical pieces below:

Examples of Great Business Names

When choosing a business name, it's critical that you look at other examples of businesses not only in your space, but business names in other industries that have done particularly well.

Here are a few examples of great business names (+ how some of these businesses came up with their name):

Competitor Analysis Example

One great way to name your business is by looking at the competition and getting inspiration.

Gia Paddock, founder of Boutique Rye analyzed other businesses in the space and added her own personal spin to her business name:

A popular national brick & mortar women’s boutique that many may have heard of is called Francesca’s
How original, right? So we came up with Boutique Rye named after our son, Riley. We put "boutique" in front to be a little different.

The name "Boutique Rye" checks the boxes for naming a business:

  • Short and simple
  • Easy to spell and easy to remember
  • Clearly defines what the company does
  • Optimized for SEO (people searching for boutiques)
  • Unique and personal touch - tells a story.

Ask Other People

Sometimes, coming up with a name is as easy as asking other people, whether that be friends, family, people at a coffee shop, or in Spyq Sklar case, his own customer!

How we came up with the name Cat Sushi :

So, we put together a quick business plan and set aside some money that we were willing to risk. One of our loyal customers actually came up with the name. We still give them free cat food.

The name "Cat Sushi" checks all the boxes for naming a business:

  • Memorable and funny
  • Obvious that they sell treats for cats
  • Fun & unique story - their customer literally came up with the name of their business!

The Amazon Example

Formerly called "Cadabra", Jeff Bezos decided that the name was too obscure, hard to spell, and easy to misinterpret.

The name Amazon came from a simple dictionary search .

Jeff Bezos wanted something that started with an A, looked through a dictionary and came up with the word Amazon.

When he told his team, he didn't care for anyone else's input. He was set on it.

Here's how the word "Amazon" checks all the boxes (aside from being worth a trillion dollars):

  • Represents the largest river in the world, making it very memorable
  • The story and meaning of the word matches the vision of the company: To be the larger and better than any other business!
  • The name allows for future growth opportunity - they didn't name something specific to just "books," even though at the time, that's what it was.
  • Easy to spell, pronounce and recommend!
