What is the pathways degree completion program.

The NCU Pathways program is a degree completion program focused on students who have been away from North Central for more than 5 years and would like to go back to college. This program works with our Registrar’s office and Deans’ Council to create an efficient, highly discounted pathway to allow you to finish your degree.

Flexibility to fit your lifestyle

Pathways students have flexible options for helping you finish your degree that are not available to traditional students. We want to help you go back to college and complete the credits you have left!

  • On-campus or online courses
  • Portfolio consideration (professional and prior learning evaluation)
  • Transfer credits from other accredited universities considered
  • Directed research courses

After re-application and degree evaluation, many students in the Pathways program only need to complete 1-2 major or general education courses and a portfolio (professional experience and prior learning assessment) to cover classes such as a senior project or internship.

I honestly thought my opportunity to graduate from North Central University had long passed. My experience with the faculty and staff in the Pathways Program at NCU has been wonderful. A completion plan was designed specifically for me taking into consideration my professional and volunteer experience as it related to my field of study many years ago. I felt as though I was being rewarded for the time that had passed instead of condemned. Now, after 25 plus years I can proclaim with gratitude and joy that I am an NCU grad! Heather L.

Northcentral University Announces Dissertation Completion Pathway USA - English USA - English

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) November 27, 2017 -- Northcentral University today announced the debut of its new Dissertation Completion Pathway. It’s no secret that many doctoral candidates never complete the final step towards their coveted degrees and, instead, settle for a designation of the dreaded ABD – a post-graduate acronym for “All but Dissertation.” With the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS) reporting an alarming 55% completion rate for doctoral programs, Northcentral University created the DCP to specifically help doctoral students who, due to circumstances beyond their control, departed their previous programs prior to completion and are now seeking opportunities to complete their dissertation and attain their degree.

The Dissertation Completion Pathway was created out of NCU’s strong desire to help each and every student complete their degree programs and reach graduation day.

Northcentral University’s Dissertation Completion Pathway (DCP) is designed for students who:

• Have completed their doctoral coursework, began the dissertation process, but withdrew from the program due to personal or professional circumstances. • Completed the dissertation coursework, but withdrew from the program due to personal or professional circumstances, and opted for a migrating degree.

The vision for the NCU Dissertation Completion Pathway is to provide students a structured program to help them achieve an advanced professional position or their personal/professional goal to “become a Dr.” The program provides a student-centered, high touch, and structured pathway that recognizes past academic coursework while providing the student with the preparation and guidance to complete a dissertation.

This guided approach, including weekly objectives and milestones, provides students the structure, support and personal attention they need. It also includes innovative learning processes like the DCP Boot Camp where students come together in an intense, focused environment designed to help them take the final steps toward their goals.

“We believe every doctoral candidate should have the chance to earn the right to be called “Doctor,” says Dr. Patricia Henry, Dean of The Graduate School at NCU. “These students have already worked very hard to pursue their dreams and we’re proud to play a part in helping them complete their dissertations and attain their doctoral degrees.”

NCU is well-known for its unique approach for self-starters and independent thinkers who want a premier education with outstanding flexibility. NCU provides students with a personal, one-to-one learning experience – delivered by professors who all hold doctoral degrees. In addition, with no group projects and flexible scheduling, students can pursue degree programs on their schedule.

NCU’s Dissertation Completion Pathway is turning ABD’s into PhD’s.

Nursing, allied health programs grow with FHSU, Fort Hays Tech North Central affiliation

Nursing and allied health are the education program teams most recently working on the affiliation implementation between FHSU, NCK Technical College and NWK Technical College.

By BECKY KISER Hays Post

Implementing the vision behind the recent affiliation initiative between Fort Hays State University, North Central Kansas Technical College in Hays and Beloit, and Northwest Kansas Technical College in Goodland is underway.

The nursing and allied health professionals teams at FHSU and what is now known as Fort Hays Tech North Central are leading the way in forming an affiliation partnership that will better serve rural Kansas's educational and workforce development needs.

One affiliation implementation team is addressing the nursing shortage and other challenges in health care, including opportunities for students to get credentialed in health care areas.

"We've worked very closely with Fort Hays Tech North Central, which has a very vibrant nursing program on its Hays campus and an emerging program at its Beloit campus," said Jeff Briggs, dean of the FHSU College of Health and Behavioral Sciences.

The schools' partnership is designed to make a student's transfer to FHSU seamless and enhance the pipeline of persons that will serve rural and remote communities, particularly in western and central Kansas.

"We're really concerned about the demographic decline and how that will devastate some of these communities," said Tisa Mason, FHSU president. "To be a strong state, we can't just focus on the urban areas."

Students interested in nursing can get an associate's degree at the technical college and then follow several seamless transfer pathways to a bachelor of science in nursing degree at FHSU.

"We've been able to create a host of courses that transfer directly, and we've opened up a number of courses students can take while they're pursuing their two-year degree. At the same time, they can take up to five courses in the baccalaureate program," Briggs said.

"It fast tracks these students to the BSN through this partnership. It prepares nurses much faster than what has been our historical pattern."

This academic year, the affiliation implementation will be creating a pathway for seamless admission to Fort Hays State from Fort Hays Tech North Central.

FHSU will also launch a hybrid program this year.

Students will be able to take lecture courses online and have clinical-intensive experiences throughout the semester, then sit for the registered nurse licensure.

Briggs credits the FHSU nursing faculty for developing the creative program concept.

"We know that students tend to stay within the parameters of where they're educated. If we can keep them in western Kansas for educational opportunities, it's often that they'll go back to populate and serve the rural region."

Allied health professionals are also needed in rural areas of Kansas.

Fort Hays Tech Northwest in Goodland offers respiratory care and medical assistant programs, and it is developing a medical specialist program.

"We're partnering with them as part of this affiliation so those students can then receive a baccalaureate degree through Fort Hays State University, advance their credentials. Perhaps pathway into a master's degree, move into administration."

Industry partners are critical for all FHSU allied health programs, and several professionals serve on the implementation team, including Terry Siek, chief nursing officer at HaysMed, Nicki Cleveland, chief nursing officer at Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, and Jaron Caffrey of the Kansas Hospital Association.

"Independently, we work so closely with all our regional hospitals, our critical care access hospitals, and clinics for placing our students for clinical experiences. Then there are opportunities for them to recruit those students into employment upon completion of the program."

Briggs said the hands-on clinical experience is critically important for the original nursing certification.

FHSU and its partner schools have patient simulation labs on their campuses, where students can learn and practice techniques before entering the more organic real-life environment.

"They've had to think through the scenarios that they're presented. They're more work-ready when they do graduate," Briggs said.

FHSU students do a rural clinical rotation, which is a vastly different environment from an urban hospital such as Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

The university has submitted an application for a competitive $4 million federal grant to support the rural clinical rotation program.

Thanks in part to $15 million in funding from the Kansas Legislature, Fort Hays State University is expanding its nursing program and adding to Stroup Hall, the nursing building.

Design plans are underway with a goal of opening the doors in 2027.

Community promotional events to celebrate the affiliation between FHSU and Fort Hays Tech North Central will be at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 12 in the Hays downtown pavilion and Sept. 14 in downtown Beloit.

Biden-Harris administration awards more than $44M to improve postsecondary education access and completion for rural students

The U.S. Department of Education (Department) recently announced more than $44.5 million for 22 grants under the Rural Postsecondary and Economic Development (RPED) program to improve rates of postsecondary enrollment, persistence, and completion among rural students through the development of high-quality career pathways aligned to high-skill, high-wage and in-demand industry sectors and occupations in the region.

Ohio recipients include:

• Marion Technical College will receive $1,714,423 to increase postsecondary enrollment and degree attainment of rural students and awareness of in-demand occupations among rural populations in north-central Ohio.

• Ohio University will receive $2,022,519 to increase the number of underserved students in the Southeastern Appalachian region of Ohio who enroll in, and complete, postsecondary educational pathways leading to careers in Advanced Manufacturing and related STEM fields.

“Rural communities face unique challenges in educating, training, and developing high-skill workers — yet they are also home to students with unique skills and potential,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona. “These dedicated funds will ensure that students in rural areas have access to postsecondary credentials and other resources that lead to high-quality career pathways and economic success.”

Applicants for the RPED grant program were encouraged to provide programs to support secondary students in accessing postsecondary education, to include partnerships with career pathways, and to provide strategies for community college students to transition to a four-year institution.

By Siberian standards, Kemerovo Oblast is populous, urban, and industrialized. It lies in the heart of the "Kuzbass" (Kuznets Basin) region, home to the world's largest deposits of coal. Accordingly, most of Kemerovo Oblast's cities developed because of economic opportunities related to the coal industry. As a result, the region's cities are often quite polluted, although the situation has improved since the fall of the USSR. Visitors to the region's cities will find them busy, but not significant tourist attractions in and of themselves. But this is all the more reason to get out into the beautiful and unspoilt (and uninhabited) Siberian countryside!

Russian is the only dish on the menu.

Most visitors will pass through Kemerovo Oblast on the Trans-Siberian Railway , which makes stops at (from west to east) Yurga, Taiga, Anzhero-Sudzhensk , Yaya , and Mariinsk.

There is an airport at Kemerovo ( KEJ   IATA ), with flights to/from Moscow , Krasnoyarsk , and in the summer: Anapa , Sochi and Khabarovsk .

Novokuznetsk also has an airport serving flights from Moscow (Domodedovo and Vnukovo Airports), Saint Petersburg , Tomsk and in the summer: Sochi , Krasnodar , and Anapa .

Rail is the most important means of transport in this industrialized region on the Trans-Siberian Railway . The most important junction town is Yurga, junction for the branch going south to Kemerovo .

The next major stops on the Trans-Siberian Railway are Novosibirsk to the west and Achinsk and Krasnoyarsk to the east.

Travelers heading to Tomsk should take the branch from the Trans-Siberian Railway junction at Taiga.
