If you love historical dramas, then you’ve certainly watched The King’s Speech a time or two. With twelve Oscar nominations and four wins, The King’s Speech is one of the best movies to ever be created. But can we watch The King’s Speech on Netflix?

The King’s Speech is a movie that came out in 2010, and it features Colin Firth in the role of future King George VI. As the future King has a speech issue, namely stuttering, he gets the help of a speech therapist, played by Geoffrey Rush. Another delight is the presence of Helena Bonham Carter as Queen Elizabeth, as well as Michael Gambon, who played King George V. The film follows their journey to creating a proper speech to give during his first wartime radio broadcast in 1939.

The movie received great reviews from everyone at the time, and it managed to receive the most Oscar nominations at the 83rd Academy Awards, namely 12 of them. They even won four awards, including for Best Picture.

Is The King’s Speech on Netflix?

The answer to this question is “yes,” but it truly does depend on where you live. As you may have already found out, Netflix has specific libraries available in all the countries it’s available in. Each of these libraries is also geoblocked, so you can only access the ones from the country you’re in. If you want to watch The King’s Speech on Netflix, you’ll need to be in the United States . We’ve gone and done our research, and we didn’t manage to find the film in the UK, Australia, or even Canada, but it did pop up on Japan’s list.

The availability of various titles depends on the licensing deals they manage to sign, which clearly state where they’re allowed to stream them. If the film is available on a competing platform, you won’t get it on Netflix.

Unfortunately, even though we all pay pretty much the same subscription price, we are not always able to watch the content we love, the titles we heard are present in other areas of the world, which can be quite frustrating.

Editor’s note : NordVPN is our #1 choice for unblocking Netflix . Sign up for the 2-year plan with NordVPN at $3.49 per month, as well as 3 months for FREE. A 30-day money-back guarantee is included on all plans, so you can cancel any time and get your money back.

Can I watch The King’s Speech on Netflix from another country?

As long as Netflix has a title available in a certain country, you’ll be able to watch it, including The King’s Speech. You will have to make use of everything the Internet has to offer, such as VPNs. These tools can help change your IP address, so you appear in whatever country you need to be in order to bypass the geoblockade. We are particularly fond of NordVPN because it’s a tool that has thousands of servers in about 100 countries. They also have some great encryption protocols ensuring your privacy.

Here’s what you need to do to watch The King’s Speech

  • The first thing on your list needs to be visiting the NordVPN website to sign up for an account. They offer new subscribers 3 months for free and 68% OFF the 2-year plan, at $3.49 per month , so you’ll want to take advantage of that deal!
  • Then, you’ll need to pick a server that’s located in the United States or in Japan.
  • When they establish the connection, you need to load Netflix in a different tab and to look for The King’s Speech again. Now that Netflix thinks you’re in the US or Japan, they’ll offer the movie.

Wasn’t Netflix blocking VPNs?

For a few years now, Netflix has been on the hunt for VPNs, doing its best to block users from accessing content they weren’t technically supposed to access. And while such is deployed on its platforms, it doesn’t always work. More specifically, in the long time we’ve been using NordVPN, we haven’t had this happen to us. We’re not saying it can’t happen, but NordVPN is pretty good at flying under the radar. In fact, if you do happen to go through this and Netflix flags you to shut down your VPN and reload the page, you have to contact Customer Support. NordVPN has a team available 24/7, and they’ll be more than happy to steer you towards the right IP or server to watch Netflix in your desired location; they always know how to help you.

See? Things aren’t that difficult if you have the right tools at your disposal and we hope we’ve brightened your day by helping you watch The King’s Speech on Netflix.

If you need a VPN for a short while when traveling for example, you can get our top ranked VPN free of charge. NordVPN includes a 30-day money-back guarantee. You will need to pay for the subscription, that’s a fact, but it allows full access for 30 days and then you cancel for a full refund . Their no-questions-asked cancellation policy lives up to its name.

Positive Messages

The film has a stirring message: Our biggest limitations are the voices in our head that remind us of all of our imperfections and failures. But they're only voices, and our will and perseverance are stronger than our fears. Communication, integrity, and humility are major themes. The film has some classist overtones, but they’re placed within historical context.

Positive Role Models

The three main characters serve as strong role models: Lionel Logue, though somewhat untraditional in his approach to speech therapy (at least for the movie's time period), believes in himself so much that he's able to help others do so, too. The queen is a lesson in being supportive without condescension, and King George VI is a man not to be denied his life because of his past.

Violence & Scariness

A character struggles with his temper, which is fueled by frustration.

It has inspiring and empowering messages about triumphing over your fears. An indie about a king who stutters might not seem like typical adolescent fare, but don't judge a movie by the brief synopsis: Teens will enjoy it as much as the grown-ups will if they give it a chance. In addition to the swearing, there's some social drinking, but that all fades in comparison to the movie's surprisingly moving themes of hope and perseverance. Note: An edited version of the movie that removes/lessens some of the strongest language has been rated PG-13 and released separately. Great Oscar winning about overcoming fears.

I loved this movie, what's the story.

In THE KING'S SPEECH, King George VI ( Colin Firth ), father to Queen Elizabeth II, inherited the British throne in 1936 after his brother Edward's controversial abdication to marry divorcee Wallis Simpson. Ultimately, he would lead the United Kingdom through World War II. But even before he ascended the throne, he was a man struggling with a persistent and troubling condition: He stammered. This was a source of deep despair for the soon-to-be king, who was known among friends and family members as Bertie. Despite his wife's ( Helena Bonham Carter ) best efforts and deep, abiding love, Bertie was stunted by rage and anxiety. But in this film based on true events, the king finally finds an ally in Lionel Logue ( Geoffrey Rush ), an Australian speech therapist who helps Bertie gain the confidence and will to overcome his fears and let his voice be heard, literally and metaphorically.

Is It Any Good?

It is a singularly gratifying experience to watch this film's three stars -- Firth, Bonham Carter, and Rush -- do what they do best: act. It's like watching a master class. They disappear into their characters and make them both interesting and understandable. That's not always the case with films about royalty. Often, they're a visual (and unremarkable) summary of what we know from books; here, they fascinate with their trials, triumphs, and, most of all, humanity. And for a movie steeped in a feel-good message -- "You don't need to be afraid of the things you were afraid of when you were 5," intones one man -- it's far from clichéd.

Credit, too, goes to director Tom Hooper and screenwriter David Seidler, who himself conquered a stutter and was inspired by the king. They have created characters so rich that they compel viewers to rush to the Web for some post-viewing research. We know a lot about today's royals, but they don't hold a candle to their predecessors -- or at least to the ones portrayed here. The movie makes history and self-help irresistible. Bottom line? The King's Speech is superb.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

Families can talk about the messages in The King's Speech. What are viewers meant to take away from watching?

How does the movie portray stuttering and those who suffer from it? Does it seem realistic and believable? How does Bertie's struggle with stuttering affect him?

How did the queen pave the way for the king's success? Are they positive role models? Do you think the movie portrays them accurately? Why might filmmakers change some details in a fact-based story?

How do the characters in The King's Speech demonstrate communication and perseverance ? What about integrity and humility ? Why are these important character strengths?

Britain’s Violent Riots: What We Know

Officials had braced for more unrest on Wednesday, but the night’s anti-immigration protests were smaller, with counterprotesters dominating the streets instead.

  • Share full article

A handful of protesters, two in masks, face a group of riot police officers with shields. In the background are a crowd, a fire and smoke in the air.

By Lynsey Chutel

After days of violent rioting set off by disinformation around a deadly stabbing rampage, the authorities in Britain had been bracing for more unrest on Wednesday. But by nightfall, large-scale anti-immigration demonstrations had not materialized, and only a few arrests had been made nationwide.

Instead, streets in cities across the country were filled with thousands of antiracism protesters, including in Liverpool, where by late evening, the counterdemonstration had taken on an almost celebratory tone.

Over the weekend, the anti-immigration protests, organized by far-right groups, had devolved into violence in more than a dozen towns and cities. And with messages on social media calling for wider protests and counterprotests on Wednesday, the British authorities were on high alert.

With tensions running high, Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s cabinet held emergency meetings to discuss what has become the first crisis of his recently elected government. Some 6,000 specialist public-order police officers were mobilized nationwide to respond to any disorder, and the authorities in several cities and towns stepped up patrols.

Wednesday was not trouble-free, however.

In Bristol, the police said there was one arrest after a brick was thrown at a police vehicle and a bottle was thrown. In the southern city of Portsmouth, police officers dispersed a small group of anti-immigration protesters who had blocked a roadway. And in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where there have been at least four nights of unrest, disorder continued, and the police service said it would bring in additional officers.

But overall, many expressed relief that the fears of wide-scale violence had not been realized.

Here’s what we know about the turmoil in Britain.

Where arrests have been reported

After years of waiting, Netflix is gearing up to release its adaptation of Scott Westerfeld’s Uglies in September 2024. Here’s the lowdown on everything about McG’s next Netflix movie, which stars Joey King, Chase Stokes, Brianne Tju, and Keith Powers.

Netflix’s Uglies will be directed by McG (Joseph McGinty Nichol), whose credits include Charlie’s Angels and Terminator Salvation. The writer/director is also a frequent collaborator with Netflix as well, working on The Babysitter, Rim of the World, and most recently, Family Switch .

The script for Uglies was penned by Emmy-nominated screenwriters Krista Vernoff ( Grey’s Anatomy, Shameless, Charmed ) and Vanessa Taylor ( The Shape of Water, Game of Thrones, Divergent ).

The project was first announced back in September 2020 when it was attached to Netflix. Adaptations had been in development before landing on Netflix, with it previously set up under Fox. According to Deadline ‘s sources, lead star Joey King has been a fan of the series for a long time and brought the series to Netflix –called them, got them to read the script and the book, and then King got Netflix to option it.

Joey King notably signed a first-look deal with Netflix in the Summer of 2021 for upcoming projects from her production company, All The King’s Horses.

Here’s everything else we know about Netflix’s Uglies :

What’s the Netflix release date for Uglies ?

After a long wait, we can confirm that Netflix has scheduled Uglies for release on Netflix globally on September 13th, 2024.

Uglies Release Date

What’s the plot of Uglies ?

As mentioned above, Netflix’s Uglies will be an adaptation of Scott Westerfield’s international bestselling novel, which was first published in 2005. It later spawned many sequels and will be getting a re-release to coincide with the Netflix movie .

The story is set in a world in which a compulsory operation at 16 wipes out physical differences and makes everyone pretty by conforming to an ideal standard of beauty. Here’s the plot synopsis of the book:

“Tally is about to turn sixteen, and she can’t wait. In just a few weeks she’ll have the operation that will turn her from a repellent ugly into a stunningly attractive pretty. And as a pretty, she’ll be catapulted into a high-tech paradise where her only job is to have fun. But Tally’s new friend Shay isn’t sure she wants to become a pretty. When Shay runs away, Tally learns about a whole new side of the pretty world—and it isn’t very pretty. The authorities offer Tally a choice: find her friend and turn her in, or never turn pretty at all. Tally’s choice will change her world forever.”

Who is cast in Uglies ?

Joey King In Uglies On Netflix

Joey King in Uglies – Picture: Netflix

Joey King is an extremely familiar face on Netflix now thanks to her starring role in The Kissing Booth trilogy. In Uglies , King will be playing the role of Tally Youngblood, a character she has wanted to play for years since reading the books over a decade ago.

While on the red carpet for David Leitch’s Bullet Train , King was asked about Uglies and had the following response;

It was very exciting for me. The Uglies books meant a lot to me as a kid. Being able to make that and be the lead of those movies and also have so much fun while doing it–what a dream realized! I was 11 years old when I fell in love with the books.

On October 18th, 2021, three further cast members were announced for Uglies. Brianne Tju of Amazon’s I Know What You Did Last Summer , Chase Stokes of Outer Banks , and Keith Powers of The Tomorrow War have been cast in unconfirmed roles.

What’s the production status of Uglies ?

In 2021, in issue 1265 of Production Weekly, it was reported that production of Uglies would begin in October 2021 and last until January 2022.

Filming actually wrapped up a little earlier than expected. On December 19th, Joey King posted on Instagram that filming had finished. The caption reads as follows:

“Can’t believe I spent the last several months playing a character I’ve dreamt about for 10 years. See you in Uglyville folks. #ThatsAWrap”

Joey King Filming Update Uglies

Scott Westerfeld also confirmed that filming had concluded but added there’s a long way to go:

“The filming is done! Now for the editing, VFX, music, etc. No release date yet.”

In February 2022, shortly after filming had finished, Joey King was interviewed by Collider , who stated that the movie was “looking fantastic.”

Speaking more about the project and how it came about, King said:

“I was really lucky that they [Netflix] were on board with it and that we got not only Scott Westerfeld stamp of approval, but like his enthusiasm. He is so excited and I’m such a fan of his and McG is so smart and just was the perfect person. I think to make this, this film, we finished filming in December and McG was so generous and showed a lot of the footage to me and the cast while we were still shooting. And God, it looks cool already. It’s it was zero effects, zero coloring, zero like special effects edited in.”

In August 2023, Scott Westerfeld delivered a small update on the movie, responding to a question on X about the status, saying , “Minor tweaks delayed by the strikes.”

Then, in late 2023, we got an update through McG with the website TooFab , who asked about the forthcoming movie. When asked about the status of the movie, he responded:

“Yeah, I’m just finishing it right now with Joey King. It’s really exciting — big world creation, dystopian future. Joey’s such a courageous little rebel in that movie. Chase Stokes is in that movie, Laverne Cox. It’s really, really exciting. It’s our answer to Hunger Games, and it’s turning out really cool.”

In early 2024, we learned that additional filming for the movie was taking place in Atlanta, Georgia, again.

What’s the runtime and age rating for Uglies ?

In June 2024, we got word that the movie had been handed a PG-13 rating in the United States for “some violence and action, and brief strong language.”

The runtime for Uglies will be 1 hour and 40 minutes.

Before we sign off, we should mention that Netflix is also set to adapt another novel by Scott Westerfeld. Coming from the studio behind Beastars is a new series called Leviathan that’s set to release exclusively on Netflix in 2025 .

‘The King’s Speech’

Celebrate Oscars week with 2010 Best Picture winner  The King’s Speech . Directed by Tom Hooper,  The King’s Speech  stars Colin Firth as Prince Albert, who must learn to overcome his stammer after his brother abdicates the throne. The newly-minted King George VI begins working with speech therapist Lionel Logue (played by Geoffrey Rush), and together, they prepare the royal for his first wartime radio broadcast in 1939. While  The King’s Speech  may not be Firth’s best film — that honor belongs to What a Girl Wants  — he did win a Best Actor Oscar for his performance, so it’s definitely a close second.

3. Munich , 2005

From Steven Spielberg, Munich is the sharp and thrilling depiction of Mossad agents on a mission to avenge the Munich Massacre, the killing of 11 Israeli Olympic team members at the 1972 Summer Olympics. Despite being based on real events, it’s a work of fiction. This allows the film to stand on clear yet nuanced grounds, focusing on the moral dilemmas that may rise for the secret agents and the perpetrators, now targets. The ensemble cast including Daniel Craig and Eric Bana allow Spielberg to deliver the film you can tell he wanted to make. A personal and striking effort.

4. Margin Call , 2011

A thoughtful drama about the financial crisis, Margin Call is gripping. Seriously, even something as convoluted as the 2008 global economic meltdown is not only accessible and understandable, but it's gripping. Margin Call transports you to the heart of Wall Street, both the financial institutions and the street, literally. It is exciting, well-acted and informative. Uh, also: Kevin Spacey.

5. Maudie , 2017

This moving biopic is about Maud Lewis, the legendary Canadian painter who suffered from arthritis. In the film, Maud gets away from her controlling family by finding a job as a live-in housekeeper for a local fish peddler. It is there where she begins to paint, before marrying the fish peddler in spite of their different personalities. Sally Hawkins, who plays Lewis, brings undeniable spark and soul to the role, for which she had to undergo an astonishing physical transformation.

Maudie is a beautiful and uncomplicated film that challenges the conventions of marriage and relationship roles, while at the same time celebrating Maud Lewis’ paintings and life’s simple pleasures.

Genre : Drama, Romance

Actor : Billy MacLellan, Brian Marler, David Feehan, Denise Sinnott, Erin Mick, Ethan Hawke, Gabrielle Rose, Greg Malone, Kari Matchett, Kate Ross, Lawrence Barry, Lisa Machin, Marthe Bernard, Mike Daly, Nik Sexton, Sally Hawkins, Zachary Bennett

6. Even the Rain , 2010

Film direction—at least in the traditional sense—is all about establishing control. In Even the Rain, however, the crew led by director Sebastian faces a problem larger than what they can manage when they become embroiled in a local conflict over water supply while shooting a period film in Bolivia. The situation escalates into a violent uprising between the residents and the Bolivian state forces, which then endangers the completion of Sebastian’s film.

Even the Rain exposes the hypocrisy of urban filmmaking, questioning its exploitative and selfish tendencies. “Some things are more important than your film,” the actor Daniel bluntly tells Sebastian in one scene. This meta-commentary extends to the audience and encourages us to reevaluate the importance we put into films, especially with regards to the current socio-political context.

8. Indian Horse , 2018

This Canadian drama produced by Clint Eastwood is based on the true story of Saul Indian Horse, a famous indigenous hockey player who survived Canada’s residential school system. As recently as 1996, indigenous children were taken away from their families to attend brutal assimilation boarding schools.

Indian Horse, by virtue of being based on true events, is not an against-all-odds story. The main character goes through a series of ups and downs between the 70s and 90s, when the movie is set, which reflect the recent history of abuse that Indigenous communities suffered in Canada.

Genre : Drama

A Kurdish-Iraqi immigrant runs into serious immigration problems as he tries to immigrate from France to England in order to be reunited with his girlfriend. Eventually he begins to train in swimming, in an attempt to swim the channel between France and England. Welcome is a gripping tale of tolerance as well as relationships between locals and immigrants. It also gives a great look into the shortcoming of the European immigration system, and will have you crying by the end of it, no question.

10. The Wolf's Call , 2019

A thrilling French movie about a nuclear submarine division that is confronted with a world-ending scenario.

One sonar agent is at the center of the story, his exceptional hearing capabilities are the main resource of the submarine commanders he works for (one of whom is played by the masterful Reda Kateb).

Wolf’s Call tries very hard to be a Hollywood movie, but even if it serves as a reminder that countries like France don’t have to always make arthouse films to be noticed, the visual effects and the writing fall short of that big-budget feel.

Still, if you’re looking for a fun movie that’s full of surprises, solid acting, and a great heroism tale, you’ll love this.

11. Christine , 2016

Christine is about Christine Chubbuck, an awkward and complex reporter who was the first person ever to commit suicide on live TV.

Rebecca Hall is terrific as Chubbuck and goes to great lengths to communicate the personality of her subject matter. The movie might seem slow at times, and her acting off, but it’ll all make sense once she immerses you in the complex reality of the character.

An interesting story and an incredible performance.

  • Us Weekly Thelma Adams A charming, personal period drama.
  • Fort Worth Star-Telegram/DFW.com Christopher Kelly A polite, occasionally rousing, and more often than not, boring affair.
  • New York Post Lou Lumenick The King's Speech is the rare work of art that's also an immense crowdpleaser.
  • AV Club Tasha Robinson The King's Speech is admirably free of easy answers and simple, happy endings; it's a skewed, awards-ready version of history, but one polished to a fine, satisfying shine.
  • Entertainment Weekly Lisa Schwarzbaum The King's Speech is simultaneously cozy and majestic.
  • San Diego Reader David Elliott The film is richly rooted, with splendid trappings, including pea-soup fogs. For all the pomp and protocol, it's an intimate story about a scared man who must find his voice if he is to rise, in regal stature, above his epaulets.
  • St. Louis Post-Dispatch Joe Williams The King's Speech is the epitome of prestige cinema, an impeccably crafted and emotionally compelling drama that deserves the many laurels it surely will receive.
  • Film Comment Magazine Scott Foundas Hooper...has become something of a specialist in exhuming British history from the mothballs of Masterpiece Theatre.
  • Newsday Rafer Guzman A powerful back story does not necessarily improve a movie, but The King's Speech has a pretty irresistible one. It might even end with a dramatic night at the Oscars in February.
  • Detroit News Tom Long Classic, rousing entertainment loaded with both humor and poignancy.
  • New York Times Manohla Dargis Too ingratiating to resonate deeply.
  • IFC.com Matt Singer It's hard to imagine a much better film being made from this material.

  • Austin Chronicle Marc Savlov he King's Speech brings a country's amorphous fear of war and a sudden king's dread of his hesitant supremacy into perfect, uncommon focus.
  • Arizona Republic Bill Goodykoontz OK, sure, "The King's Speech" obviously is feel-good Oscar bait, but who cares? It's also a terrific movie with two fantastic performances at its heart.
  • Shockya.com Perri Nemiroff The combination of spectacular performances and masterful direction turns this true story into an all-consuming emotional experience.
  • Denver Post Lisa Kennedy It is an intelligent, winning drama fit for a king -- and the rest of us. And this year, there were far too few of those coming from Hollywood.
  • Seattle Times Moira MacDonald "The King's Speech" is old-fashioned filmmaking at its best: a good story, elegantly told, and a joy to watch.
  • Houston Chronicle Amy Biancolli The King's Speech is a warm, wise film -- the best period movie of the year and one of the year's best movies, period.

7 great movies you can watch on Netflix this weekend

No plans this weekend? Thankfully, there are plenty of movies available on Netflix, and you don't have to choose among its entire catalog anymore.

Every week, we go through Netflix's inventory and select amazing movies that you can watch over the weekend.

We pick some that have recently come onto the service and mix in a few old favorites as well.

From Pixar's Oscar-winning tear-jerker "Coco" to the silly but enjoyable action-adventure film "National Treasure" starring Nicolas Cage, these are some great movies on Netflix that you can watch over the weekend.

Here are seven movies you won't regret watching on Netflix:

"Coco" (2017)

the king's speech netflix canada

Netflix description: On the Dia de los Muertos, young would-be musician Miguel crosses into the afterlife on a quest to meet his ancestor and understand his family legacy.

Critic score: 97%

Audience score: 94%

Before you watch this sweet and visually stunning Oscar winner from Pixar, make sure you have a lot of tissues, because it will make you cry a river.

"The Truman Show" (1998)

the king's speech netflix canada

Netflix description: Truman Burbank is the star of "The Truman Show," a 24-hour-a-day TV phenomenon that broadcasts every aspect of his life without his knowledge.

Critic score: 94%

Audience score: 88%

This film, one of the smartest movies from the 1990s, quickly became a classic for its thought-provoking twist and Jim Carrey's exemplary performance. It's such a pop-culture touchstone that people still discuss it 20 years later.

"Other People" (2016)

the king's speech netflix canada

Netflix description: After a bad breakup, a struggling New York comedy writer tries to don a brave face and care for his dying mother in Sacramento.

Critic score: 88%

Audience score: 79%

This dark comedy about death from the "Saturday Night Live" writer Chris Kelly doesn't exactly cover anything new, but it has a fresh take. It's a smart, funny, emotional movie, and it's some of the best work Molly Shannon has ever done.

"The King's Speech" (2010)

the king's speech netflix canada

Netflix description: In this biographical drama, Britain's King George VI struggles with an embarrassing stutter until he seeks help from speech therapist Lionel Logue.

Critic score: 95%

Audience score: 92%

Still not over British things after the royal wedding? Netflix has plenty of British royals content to keep you busy, including "The King's Speech," a delightful movie that won the Oscar for best picture in 2011 and won Colin Firth an Oscar for best actor. There are a sufficient number of corgis in this, so it's worth your time.

"Breakfast at Tiffany's" (1961)

the king's speech netflix canada

Netflix description: Fortune hunter Holly Golightly finds herself captivated by aspiring writer Paul Varjak, who moves into her building on a wealthy woman's dime.

Audience score: 91%

This iconic comedy hasn't aged well in a few ways, including Mickey Rooney's portrayal of Mr. Yunioshi, a character who is a collection of offensive, painfully misguided stereotypes of Asians. But at its core, it's a sweet movie that defined what romantic comedies could be.

"National Treasure" (2004)

the king's speech netflix canada

Netflix description: Modern treasure hunters search for a chest of riches rumored to have been stashed away by George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin.

Critic score: 44%

Audience score: 76%

The plot and frankly the entire premise of this movie make no sense. But Nicolas Cage is at his best in movies that make no sense, so this is a fun adventure film you won't regret watching. Also noteworthy: Sean Bean is in this, and he doesn't die.

"The Duchess" (2008)

the king's speech netflix canada

Netflix description: To compensate for her unhappy marriage, young duchess Georgiana Spencer begins a scandalous affair with politician Charles Grey.

Critic score: 61%

Audience score: 67%

This excellent period drama focuses on a woman's lack of satisfaction with the life and marriage that's been placed on her by society. It also has some incredible costume design, as evidenced in the image above.

Disclosure: Mathias Döpfner, CEO of Business Insider's parent company, Axel Springer, is a Netflix board member.
