Mother is undoubtedly the second name for love. Every mother loves her child more than anything and the love of a child for his/her mother is no lesser. Yes, we all have the deepest and strongest unconditional love for our mothers but it isn’t an easy thing to show. However, there are few ways to show our feelings for our mothers and the best is through the literary works. Unfortunately, everyone isn’t good at literature. But still, you may express your love for your mother this mother’s day by sharing a poem with her. Though these poems aren’t written by you, they are relatable to any mother and her child. So, feel free to send these poems to your mother if you find them relatable to you and her. So, here are the best Nepali Poems on Mother that we found lying anonymously in different social media.

Nepali Muktak Aama

English Poems on Mother

Just one little wish for you, Mom, But it’s loving and happy and true – It’s a wish that the nicest and best things Will always keep coming to you!

The heart of a home is a mother Whose love is warm and true, And home has always been “sweet home” With a wonderful mother like you!

There is no doubt Mom, you’re the best. The one and only. I’m proud to be your son. And I’d like to thank you for the loving things you’ve done.

Mom, you’re a wonderful mother, So gentle, yet so strong. The many ways you show you care Always make me feel I belong.

You’re patient when I’m foolish; You give guidance when I ask; It seems you can do most anything; You’re the master of every task.

You’re a dependable source of comfort; You’re my cushion when I fall. You help in times of trouble; You support me whenever I call.

I love you more than you know; You have my total respect. If I had my choice of mothers, You’d be the one I’d select! By Joanna Fuchs

“Mother” is such a simple word, But to me there’s meaning seldom heard. For everything I am today, My mother’s love showed me the way.

I’ll love my mother all my days, For enriching my life in so many ways. She set me straight and then set me free, And that’s what the word “mother” means to me. Thanks for being a wonderful mother, Mom! By Karl Fuchs

I want to write a poem for my mom She’s terrific in every way. No matter if I’m up or down, She always knows what to say.

So here’s to you, mom, and all you’ve done To fill my life with pleasure. Every memory of time with you Is one I’ll always treasure.

Mahakavi Laxmi Prasad Devkota, the most famous writer in Nepal

essay on mother in nepali for class 3

In Nepal every school boy knows the name Laxmi Devkota (1909-59), author of the short Napelese epic  Muna Madan . All over Himalaya his works are revered as classics , yet in Europe and the West his folk inspired narrative poems remain largely unknown. In a special interview one of his two surviving sons, Padma Devkota, explains the continuing attraction of his father’s stories, and why a tale like Muna Madan still fascinates today, almost 100 years after it was written.

essay on mother in nepali for class 3

Historyradio.org:  Why has Muna Madan become such a central work in Nepalese literature?

Professor Padma Devkota: Muna-Madan remains a central work in Nepali literature for several reasons. Briefly, it is the first major Romantic work in Nepali literature which revolts against the age-long Sanskrit classical tradition and seeks to tell the story, as Professor Shreedhar Lohani observes in “Life, Love, and Death in Muna Madan,” of real people through lives of fictional characters, and to fictionalize real geographical space. This is the first work in Nepali literature which elevates the jhyaure song, an otherwise neglected cultural space, to a significant literary height. Next, it tells a story of the common Nepali people which remains realistically contemporary in the context of the international labor market which still attracts many indigent Nepali workers. It is a heart-rending tragedy written in a simple diction which even the illiterate people of Nepal easily understood. They found their own lives written all over the pages of this book. Even then, Poet Devkota himself was criticized by elitist writers as having done something that would mar his literary career.

Historyradio.org:  Muna Madan deals with issues like poverty and caste, to what extent are these issues in present day Nepal?

Professor Padma Devkota: The caste system is not a central theme of Muna-Madan. It is mentioned only once in the course of the story when Madan’s overwhelming gratitude to the Good Samaritan figure, the Bhote, causes Madan to mention his own caste. Furthermore, the caste system itself was efficient at the time it was created. Later practices cast a slur on its original intent, which was simply a division of labor within a small, ancient community. Quite obviously it has outlasted its use in contemporary societies and the Government of Nepal has taken efficient action against all caste discriminations. However, even as poets and thinkers point up the correct path, human habits die hard. We now fear the rise of economic castes such as those that encrust capitalistic societies. I believe Nepal, especially after its secularization, has been more successful fighting the discriminatory caste system than it has succeeded in fighting poverty.

Historyradio.org:  Tell us a little about your father, Laxmi Prasad Devkota. What sort of man was he?

Professor Padma Devkota: Laxmi Devkota is popular as Mahakavi (Great Poet/Epicist). The public was quick to recognize the exceptional qualities of a poet whose fifty-ninth book, The Witch Doctor and Other Essays, a collection of thirty essays written originally in English, appeared on November 11, 2017. There are several other documents waiting to be published. He wrote in practically all the genres of literature and excelled in poetry and essay. Initially, he wrote under the influence of his Sanskrit background and English education. He started out as a Romantic poet in the Nepali tradition but continually grew as a poet to a literary modernity which the bulk of his writings have shaped. As an intellectual, he participated in the socio-political life of the nation, which he loved with all his heart. As a writer, he had vision, imagination and mastery over the medium. He also raised his voice against colonialism, imperialism, discriminations and injustice. As a thinker, he asserted the necessity of scientific and logical thinking to counteract blind faith and orthodoxy which hindered progress. As a human being, he had the gift of compassion and empathy. Legends continue growing around the life of the poet.

Historyradio.org:  What kind of reception did Muna Mudan receive when it was published?

Professor Padma Devkota: Muna-Madan is a long narrative poem written in the lyrical form called jhyaure in which learned people of the time found, as Devkota himself explains, “a low standard of rural taste, an inkling of distancing from civilization or of showiness or trace of ill-manners of the hills.” He tells us how the pundits “started wrinkling their nose” at the mention of jhyaure. For them, the merits of literature were with Kalidas and Bhavabhuti, the classical Sanskrit poets. For Devkota, they were not national poets and their literary output was not the Nepali national literature. So, he compares his situation to that of his predecessor, Bhanubhakta Acharya, the Adi Kavi or the First Poet of Nepal. During Bhanubhakta’s time, the elitists asked if it was possible to write poetry in Nepali. But Bhanubhakta used the Sanskrit classical meter and produced wonderful poetry in Nepali. Similarly, in Devkota’s time, the elitists asked if it was possible to write poetry in jhyaure. Devkota elevated the status of jhyaure by writing serious literature in this rhythm of the common heart. Quickly, Muna-Madan gained popularity and it still remains the best-seller even to this day.

Historyradio.org:  There is a movie version of the novel, is this film faithful to the original text?

Professor Padma Devkota: I would have to look at the movie again to tell you just how faithful it is. When I watched it for the first time years ago, I thought it was sufficiently faithful to the original text, but that is just a passing claim. Gaps, additions and interpretations of the movie need a more serious revisiting.

Historyradio.org:  Could you describe the literary style of that your father uses in his narrative? Is he a realist writer, a naturalist? A modernist?

Professor Padma Devkota: Muna-Madan is a long narrative poem written with the ballad in mind. It uses a lyrical form called the jhyaure which was popular among people at work, especially in the paddy fields where young boys and girls teased each other with songs and fell in love. Although Devkota’s poem is tragic in essence in keeping with the eastern view of life, he insists on the importance of action, which alone can give significance to life. Throughout the poem, there are reversals of the imaginary and the real, of gender roles, of situations, and so on. The poem is romantic in vision, emotionally well-balanced and under full control of the writer. It uses fresh metaphors and images that have a lasting impression upon the mind of the reader. The work is popularly acclaimed as being simple, but simplicity of diction is counteracted by the poet’s imaginative flights that trail the syntax behind them. It is as if my father wanted to apply William Wordsworth’s famous poetic declaration in the Preface to Lyrical Ballads to Nepali literature: to write about real people in their own tongues. In trying to select a “language really used by men,” Devkota strikes gold and achieves a simplicity which stands in great contrast to the complexity he was later able to achieve in the epic language of Nepali Shakuntala, for instance.

In terms of its revolt against the classical tradition and its attempt to speak in the simple language of the common people, Muna-Madan is modernist too. It does make a very powerful statement against discriminatory caste practices.

Historyradio.org:  In which way does his novel fall into the narrative of Nepalese literary history?

Professor Padma Devkota: Nepali derives from Pali, which derives from Sanskrit. Very early Nepali writers wrote devotional poetry in Sanskrit; but Bhanubhakta Acharya decided to freely translate Ramanyan into Nepali using the classical Sanskrit meters. He also wrote a few poems about the political and social issues of his time. Then came Motiram Bhatta and introduced the Urdu gazal and wrote many love poems. Lekhanath Poudyal stuck to the Sanskrit tradition but wrote a Nepali that gleamed with polished language. Balakrishna Sama, a playwright and a poet, looked westward and to science and philosophy. Laxmi Prasad Devkota introduced Romanticism and Modernity to Nepali literature.

Briefly again, my father’s poetry is spontaneous, deeply felt, sincere and honest, and has a touch of spirituality in it. He loves his nation, but goes glocal. He finds his inspiration in the histories and mythologies of India, Greater India (Bharatvarsha), Greece, Rome and Nepal. For him, mythology offers a proper window into the hearts of the peoples of the world. For the human being must stand at the center of the universe. The human being is the only significantly worthy object of worship. And the poet remains a liberal humanist.

Historyradio.org:  Why do you think Muna Madan is so little known in Europe?

Professor Padma Devkota: No serious attempt has been made by the Nepalese Government to introduce its culture and literature to the Europeans, who don’t read Nepali anyway. And why should they? Nepal is not an economic or military giant. So, its richest cultural mine awaits discovery by individuals who wander in search of the best in world literature. Some such as Dom Moreas who met Devkota at his death-bed and reminisced him in Gone Away: An Indian Journal or David Rubin whose translations of Devkota’s poems appear under the title Nepali Visions, Nepali Dreams or Michael Hutt of the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), London, who translated Muna-Madan are examples of Western scholars who have discovered him. More recently, international scholarship has grown around Devkota’s work. One such study, though peripheral to Muna-Madan, is that of Anna Stirr’s on “Sounding and Writing a Nepali Public Sphere: The Music and Language of Jhyaure” (Asian Music 46, 2015). Although Devkota himself started the tradition of translating his own works and those of his colleagues’ into English, and although he also started the tradition of writing serious literature originally in English, we have not been able to publicize it beyond the frontiers of our immediate neighbors.

Historyradio.org:  Are there many foreign translations of the story?

Professor Padma Devkota: Not as many as or as good as we would like to see. Some Nepali translators have attempted rendering Muna-Madan into English. Among them are my father’s brother, Madhusudhan Devkota, and Tirtha Man Tuladhar both of whom attempted a translation of this work in 1970. Ananda Shrestha’s rendering into English appeared in 1995. Foreigners, too, have tried to translate this work in their own ways. A. M. Syangden and Ganga Singh Rai form India attempted translating Muna-Madan in 1994 and 1996, respectively. Their major problem is with the language itself. Michael J. Hutt’s translation appeared in 1996. It remains the most noted version to this day. Liu Xian translated it into Chinese in 2011. Portions of the text have been translated into Russian, Korean, French, German and other European languages, too. All of them have translated from the original text of Muna-Madan, which is shorter by 399 lines from the text revised by the poet in 1958. This one remains to be translated by someone.

“Muna Madan follows the life of Madan who leaves his wife , Muna,  and goes to Lhasa to make money, and while returning he becomes sick on the way. His friends leave him on the road and come back home saying he has died. The story also shows the life of a poor woman who suffered much without her husband and later dies because of grief. Finally he is rescued by a man who is considered to be of lower caste in Nepal. That is why it is said that a man is said to be great not by caste or race but by a heart full of love and humanity. When Madan returns to Kathmandu after regaining his health, he discovers that his wife is dead and becomes grief-stricken. Madan comes to realize that money is of no value at that point. In this poem, Devkota has written about the biggest problems in Nepalese society at the time.” (Wiki)

An Essay On My Family For Class 3 Kids

Shaili Contractor

Key Points to Remember When Writing an Essay About My Family for Class 3

A 10-line essay on my family for class 3 kids, short paragraph on my family for class 3 kids, long essay on my family for grade 3, what your 3rd grader will learn from the essay.

Essay writing is an important skill that students must possess for academic success in the future. Just like any other skill, writing well takes time and steady effort; and to improve their writing skills, kids have to be assigned topics that are easy and intuitive, such as ‘My Family’. For third graders, this topic is close to heart, and since many of them learn to express their feelings in a slightly better way and with a slightly more advanced vocabulary, it is a great topic to write about. In this article, we touch upon some important tips and key points that your third grader can keep in mind as they write their essay. These points will also teach your child to think about their family more deeply, understand the relationship dynamics and articulate their thoughts well.

Here are some important points to remember before writing an essay:

  • Teach them to form their ideas about what they wish to write in the essay. This will help them determine the direction the essay will take and decide if they want to write about the life of each member or about their relationship and interactions with them.
  • Show them how to write an outline for the essay. This is where they put their ideas from the last step into simple lines so they wouldn’t forget anything else later.
  • Tell them to keep the essay simple and not dive too deep into any particular topic. This will help them stay on point and maintain the word count.
  • Teach them to write in the “flow”. It means to write all that comes to their head without restriction.
  • Write in short sentences and convey as many ideas as possible in fewer words. An essay such as ‘My Family’ can be written in short sentences by describing each family member and their importance in the child’s life.

Before children write complicated paragraphs, they should be asked to write essays in a simple one-line format. This is a good start before advancing to more complicated essay formats. Here is an example:

  • I come from a humble family of four members – my dad, mom, my sister, and me.
  • Our family is settled in Bangalore, although we are originally from a small town called Sangli in Maharashtra.
  • My dad is a software engineer at an IT company in Bangalore, and my mother is an HR manager at a big company.
  • I have extended families spread across Maharashtra and Karnataka. Some of my cousins also live in Bangalore.
  • I love visiting my grandparents in Sangli during the holidays. They always take me out for ice cream and tell me nice stories during bedtime.
  • My grandmother is an amazing cook, and I love all the food she prepares. I always long for her food before the holidays start.
  • During weekends I go out with my parents and sister to the mall for fun. I love visiting toy stores and buying new toys.
  • My sister is very young and likes to play all day long. She is still not old enough to play with me, so we play inside the house.
  • My father loves wildlife and nature photography, and I love to watch him take photos. So sometimes, we go on long trips to capture beautiful pictures.
  • My family is very loving and caring, and it is the most important thing for me in this world.

A short paragraph is slightly more challenging than the one-line essay discussed above. Here is an example of how to write one:

We are a family of five members. I am the youngest, while my sister and brother are much older than me. My father is a doctor, and he spends most of his time in the hospital. My mother is a homemaker, but before she decided to become a homemaker to take care of our family, she worked as a school teacher. My brother is studying engineering in a college close by, and my sister is in high school. I love my family because we do a lot of fun things together. During weekends, we go for long picnics. I enjoy the drive very much as there is a lot of greenery outside the city. My mother likes to watch the stars through her telescope. So, sometimes, we also go stargazing. Everyone in the neighbourhood likes our family as my parents are warm and kind-hearted people and they always teach us to be kind and considerate. We have a great relationship with all our neighbours, and we live together in harmony.

Long-form essay composition is quite complicated and requires some skill. Children first need to learn how to write short-form essays before moving to long essays. Here is an example of how your third grader can structure a long essay on ‘My Family’:

I am from a big joint family. There are seven members living in our house – my grandfather, grandmother, father, mother, sister, our pet dog Tommy, and me. Since we all consider Tommy an important member of the family, I have included him in the list. Unlike many of my friends in school who come from nuclear families, my grandparents live with us. I love having them in my life all the time as they are fun-loving people, and they take care of us.

My grandfather is a retired engineer, and my grandmother is a retired teacher. They were really good in studies themselves, which is why I take tuition from them. With my grandparents’ help, I have become an excellent student, and I get good marks on every test. My sister is preparing for her board exams, which is why my grandfather is helping her with maths and science when he gets time.

My father and mother are both software engineers at an IT company. They have busy schedules and leave home early together. My parents and my grandparents take turns to drop us at school. Our family is very closely bonded, and we love and treat each other with respect.

We enjoy watching television together. On occasions such as festivals, my grandmother prepares delicious food for us all. Every evening during dinner time, we discuss our day and share everything that makes us happy and sad. I feel blessed to have my family, and I feel even luckier to live with my grandparents as many of my classmates rarely meet their grandparents.

As English is not the first language for many Indian kids, writing an essay in English is bound to be beneficial for them. In this regard, familiar topics, such as My Family, My Best Friends, My Pets, My Mother, etc., can help third graders jog their memory and incorporate ideas on the chosen topic as they are most relevant to them. Also, since third graders have a better grasp of emotions than first and second graders, they can do a better job at it. Thus, this activity can improve your child’s observation skills, help them appreciate their family more, and strengthen their bond with the family as they pen down their thoughts and emotions.

‘My Family’ essay is a simple topic that all children would enjoy writing. Since it is most likely to be asked in tests and exams, it is good to be prepared for it. Have your child write about the topic in multiple ways using different styles and ideas to create a brilliant write-up each time!

Naag panchami – the story behind the snake worshiping festival in nepal.

Nag Panchami is the festival to worship Nag – snake. The snakes are scary reptile as some of them are poisonous. The snakes that are referred as Nag are usually poisonous cobra snakes. The festival is celebrated to be safe from the snakes.

The people in Kathmandu go to Taudaha Lake, Naagpokhari to worship the Naag. Naagdaha at Dhapakhel in Lalitpur also considered one of the places to go for Naag Panchami Puja.

A story of Nag Panchami

There are various stories to explain the reason people started worshiping the snake god. According to a legend, while plowing on field, a farmer had killed three baby snakes. When the mother snake found out about the death, it crept into the house and killed everybody in the house.

All but one of the daughters of the farmer had gone to a neighbour’s house on that night. So, she escaped snake bite and survived. When the Nag found out the girl has survived she went to bite her too. But, the daughter started worshiping the Nag and offered her foods when she visited the house. The snake god was very happy by the devotion of the daughter. She later brought everybody back to life and the family lived happily.

The story of the survival spread allover the place and they started worshiping the Nag god.

Mahabharata Story

According to various mythological scriptures like Agni Purana, Skanda Purana, Narada Purana and Mahabharata give account of worshiping of snakes.

According to the Mahabharata epic, King Parikshita of Kuru dynasty was killed by a snake bite by the snake king called Taksaka. The son of King Parikshita, Janamejeya, was so angered by his father’s death that he performed a snake sacrifice Yagya, known as Sarpa Satra. For the Yagya, a sacrificial fireplace was prepared to kill all the snakes in the world. The sacrifice performed was so powerful that it was caused all the snakes to fall into the Yagna kunda (sacrificial fire pit).

The snake king Takshaka however escaped to the nether world of Indra to seek his protection. The sages at the Yagna Kunda increased the tempo of reciting the mantras to drag Takshaka to the Yagna Kunda. Takshaka had coiled himself around Indra’s cot. The force of the sacrificial yagna was so powerful that Indra was also dragged along with Takshaka towards the fire.

The gods were scared and they appealed to Manasadevi to resolve the crisis. Manasadevi asked her son Astika to go to the site of the yagna and request Janamejaya to stop the Sarpa Satra yagna. Janamejaya was impressed by Astika’s knowledge of all the Sastras. When Janamejaya granted Astika a boon – Astika requested Janamejeya to stop the Sarpa Satra. As the king was bound by his promise he couldn’t refuse a boon given to the Brahmin. The yagna was then stopped and the life of Indra and Takshaka were spared. Since then the day celebrated as Naag Panchami.

essay on my country Nepal

Essay on My Country Nepal For Students

If there is a country’s flag that stands out among all other countries it is the flag of Nepal . Our flag is very unique and cannot be compared to other countries’ flags due to its shape. It also has a hidden meaning behind it which represents the country’s peace-loving and friendly nature, bravery, and immortal history.

My country Nepal is situated between two countries, India and China. Although it is sandwiched between international powers, conflicts have not happened between any, and peace remains. Nepal is a country of various castes and cultures. In other words, it is like a beautiful garden of flowers with people of different ethnicities and backgrounds.

My country Nepal is not only unique for its flag but also its geographical terrain, the variety of castes and cultures you can find, and the rich history of it. It is the land of various great places and important figures that people know far and wide. The temperature here spans from cool to hot and is a heaven for residing in.

There are about 126 castes in Nepal each with its own rich history and culture which makes Nepal a rich place for culture. Some dating back to the millenniums. Not only that, our country is very rich in its geographical terrain. From the lowest point of just 70 Meters from sea level to the world’s highest peak Mt. Everest (8848.86 meters) , we have temperature scales that vary from place to place. It is divided into three regions, Terai, Hilly, and Himalayas each according to their altitude and geographical differences.

Himalayan regions have high and mighty Himalayas that are breathtaking to look at. Out of the world’s top 10 highest peaks, 8 of them fall in my country. It is already a great pride to have come from such a country. The diverse flora and fauna, beautiful landscapes, lush and green jungles, historical and religious places in Nepal are enough to gather the attention of foreigners and locals too. People from all over the world pay thousands of dollars just to see our country’s snow-capped mountains, rivers, cliffs, waterfalls, other beautiful landscapes, the rich flora and fauna, and sites of great religious and historical importance. It just doesn’t end there.

📌 Read –   Essay on the Importance of English Language

Our country ranks in the top 5 for the richest in water resources. With just a small country with an area of 1,47,181 sq kilometers, it has the potential to fuel hydropower worth 2% of the entire world. It may look small in number but taking our country’s small area in context, it is a potential incomparable to all. The Terai region holds fertile land and smooth flowing waters that are excellent for farming and cultivating.

Nepal is also known as an agricultural country where 60% of the people here follow agriculture as their work. Our country also has huge historical importance. Gautama Buddha the founder and preacher of Buddhism which is practiced worldwide was also born in Nepal. Buddhism is known to preach peace and non-violence and to love everyone. King Janak is also an important figure who holds great importance to communities in Nepal.

Other personalities include Bhrikuti, Araniko, etc. Our country is also known for its bravery. Our country never has to celebrate Independence day as we were never under the rule of any other. We stood and fought against the Britans and other Mongol countries. Brave Gorkhalis were united after a long struggle and fought their way to preserve their country. The courage and bravery of Nepali people are also know world wide. Many brave Gorkhalis went to fight under countries in world wars and won various colors and medals. This brought our country so much respect that we even enjoy it for granted to date.

Although our country’s history, culture, terrains, and achievements make anyone feel proud, the power struggle for the politicians, previous kings, and presidents have made the country weak and fall in the developing country category. Our rich natural resources have not been utilized and we have fallen way behind. Corruption is widely prevalent in our country and the loans we have taken from other countries are in a large number. The amount of food and other materialistic consumption has made Nepal import more and export less.

Our country is poor but the people here are rich. This is because of the corruption and the illegal working/trading that has been done. The government has not made significant progress and the people aren’t responsible. Although I feel proud to be A Nepali, the condition of my country makes me feel bad. People should feel responsible and carry out their duties and not just complain about the government.

The government too should implement proper policies and rules and enforce them accordingly. Utilization of our natural resources should be done in an effective way and social evils such as discrimination according to castes and genders, other superstitions should be slowly removed. Centralized development should stop and we should control the people moving out to other countries with their skills that are wasted abroad. This way we can slowly develop our country.
