Nursing (B.S.)

  • Major in Global Public Health and the Common Good (B.A./B.S.)
  • Minor in Global Public Health and the Common Good

As a student in our bachelor's program in nursing, you will be prepared to practice as a generalist in a range of settings—including hospitals, clinics, and community agencies—while also making the most of your undergraduate experience by studying abroad, participating in student organizations, and working alongside faculty on their current research.

Our undergraduate curriculum combines classroom learning with clinical experiences and includes essentials in nursing, the liberal arts, and the natural and social sciences. You also may be eligible to take graduate-level electives during your junior and senior years.

Earning a bachelor's degree takes four years, and we encourage you to take advantage of opportunities outside the classroom—including Boston College athletics, student clubs, and international study and travel. In fact, one-third of our students study abroad during their junior year and another third of senior students participate in global clinical experiences.

“ While at Boston College, I explored philosophy and theology classes. I learned about restorative justice, ethics, and Catholic social teaching. I was encouraged to reflect on what it means to live a “good life” and how to find meaning amid human suffering. This value set, coupled with my nursing classes, allowed me to learn not only the science of nursing, but the art of nursing as well. ”

Your chance of acceptance, your chancing factors, extracurriculars, what's the acceptance rate for connell school of nursing.

I'm a high school junior and I'm really interested in nursing programs! I came across the Connell School of Nursing and it caught my eye. Does anyone know the acceptance rate for this program, and any advice on what it takes to get in?

The Connell School of Nursing is part of Boston College, and while the overall acceptance rate for Boston College is around 15%, the acceptance rate for the Connell School of Nursing can be slightly more competitive. Although the exact acceptance rate for the nursing program may vary from year to year, you can expect it to be within a similar range.

To increase your chances of being accepted into the Connell School of Nursing, you should focus on the following:

1. Strong academic performance: Maintain a high GPA and take rigorous courses, including AP and honors classes, especially in science subjects such as biology and chemistry.

2. Standardized test scores: While some colleges are moving toward test-optional or test-blind policies, having strong SAT or ACT scores can still be helpful if Boston College considers them at the time of your application.

3. Experience in healthcare: Demonstrating your interest in nursing and healthcare through extracurricular activities, volunteering, or job-shadowing can give you a competitive edge.

4. Strong letters of recommendation: Ask teachers, counselors, or healthcare professionals who know you well to write recommendation letters that highlight your individual strengths, commitment to nursing, and any relevant experiences you have had in the field.

5. A compelling personal essay: Write a thoughtful and engaging essay that showcases your passion for nursing, tells a unique story about you, and highlights your personal experiences and values related to the field.

6. Interview preparation: If offered an interview, be ready to discuss why you are interested in nursing, your experiences, and what makes you a good fit for the Connell School of Nursing program.

Remember, the admissions process will take a holistic approach, reviewing all aspects of your application in order to make a decision. Best of luck as you prepare your application and pursue your passion for nursing!

However, Boston College, like nearly all highly selective colleges and universities, has a holistic admissions process involving other factors beyond your grades and test scores. Students with particularly compelling stories or achievements can still receive serious consideration even if their grades and test scores are outside of Boston College's average range.

To apply, students must use the  Common Application or the Questbridge Application and complete the BC writing supplement. Boston College has an Early Decision program that can improve admission chances for students who are sure the university is their top choice school. Students with interests in studio art, music, or theater can use Slide Room to upload files of their visual or performing art to the Common Application. Note that interviews are not part of the Boston College application process.

boston college nursing acceptance rate

How hard is it to get into Boston College's nursing program?

How competitive is it and what is the average GPA/SAT scores, etc? What are they looking for in applicants?

BC doesn’t release acceptance rates/stats by school, so any answer to this would be pure guesswork. I think people tend to think that, on average, it is a bit easier to get into nursing than the school as a whole, but I’m not sure how well-informed or productive such opinions are. It is certainly not easy, as a review of results threads on this site will reveal.

Keep in mind that a successful nursing app should demonstrate one’s interest in the field and that the AdCom is likely to give more weight to science and possibly math coursework.

Perhaps someone else has more insider info.

At a BC info session, an admissions rep said the acceptance rate is within a point or 2 for all 4 schools.
