Open SoundCloud in a browser window and find the page with the soundtrack you want to use. Before using the file, check to make sure it’s not copyrighted, it has a Creative Commons license, and/or it’s public domain content. 

Step 2: Select Copy Link to copy the URL of the soundtrack.

Repeat the steps for uploading an audio file to Google Drive. Then share the file, setting the access permissions to “Anyone with the link can be a viewer.”

Step 3: Add the narration to Google Slides

Select the slide you want to add your narration to then select Insert > Audio . You’ll see a speaker icon on the slide indicating the audio has been added to your presentation. 

Step 4: Preview your presentation

Select Slideshow to preview your slide in presentation mode and test whether the narration plays as it should. 

Use YouTube videos with audio

Another way to add audio to your Google Slides presentation is to embed a YouTube video. Note that some video owners copyright their YouTube content, so you can’t share it via Google Slides. 

Step 1: Open YouTube and find the video you want to use

Open YouTube and play the video, noting the start and end time timestamps for the section you want to add to your presentation. You can also create a video and upload it to your YouTube channel, then add its URL to Google Slides.

Step 2: Copy the YouTube video link

Select Share or copy the link to the YouTube video.

Step 3: Add the link to your Google Slides presentation

Open your presentation in Google Slides, select the slide that will play the file, then select Insert > Video .

Select YouTube then paste the YouTube video link you copied earlier. 

Next, select the video and click Insert .

A thumbnail preview of the YouTube video will appear on the slide. You can hide the video behind a picture or resize it and move it to a new location in your presentation.

Note: Google Slides updated the playback options for videos. By default, the video will play on click as you go through your presentation. You can change the playback mode using the “Video playback” drop-down settings to autoplay when presenting.

How to add background music or a soundtrack in your Keynote presentations

If you’re using Keynote to create a presentation, there are all sorts of reasons you may want to include background music.

You might be introducing a new product and want something upbeat and dynamic. You may be making a slideshow for an event and want a meaningful song. Or, you might be creating a presentation for a charity and want to make a bold statement.

Whatever the case may be, it’s easy to add background music or a soundtrack in Keynote, and here’s how.

Add background music to a presentation on Mac

When creating a slideshow that you want to add music to in Keynote on your Mac, make sure that you have the audio file that you want to use, that it’s in MPEG-4 file format (.M4A) and that it’s not DRM protected (you’ll receive an error that you cannot use a protected file if you try). If you don’t have that, you can use a site like CloudConvert to convert MP3 files to M4A.

Also, note that you’ll be using the Soundtrack feature. This will play the audio file from the beginning of your presentation.

1) Click the Document button on the top right of the Keynote window.

2) Select the Audio tab.

3) Below Soundtrack , click the plus sign button.

4) Browse or search for the audio file in the Music app that you want to use and select it. You can also just drag the M4A file on the tiny Soundtrack box.

5) You’ll see that file pop into the Soundtrack area in the sidebar, and you can add another if you like.

You can adjust the soundtrack to Off, Play Once, or Loop with Play Once chosen by default.

Now play your slideshow from the beginning, and you’ll hear your tune.

Add background music to a slide on Mac

If you don’t want the music to play throughout your entire presentation and want it for one slide only, this is easy too.

1) Go to the slide where you want the audio.

2) Click Media > Music from the Keynote toolbar. Alternatively, if you have the folder open containing the audio file, you can drag it onto the slide.

3) Select the file or drag it to the spot on the slide where you want it.

4) The file will display as a round play button that you can click to play and pause. To move it, just select, drag, and drop.

5) Click the Format button on the top right to make adjustments to the audio, such as trimming, repeating, or starting on click.

Add background music to a presentation on iPhone and iPad

If you’re working with Keynote on your iPhone or iPad, you can add background music there as well. And the same rules apply as on Mac as far as file type and protected files. That means you can’t use a song downloaded as part of your Apple Music subscription, as those are DRM protected.

1) Open your presentation and tap the More   button (three-dot icon) on the top.

2) Select Presentation Options > Soundtrack and tap Choose Audio .

3) Choose your audio file and then pick Off, Play Once, or Loop. You can add another file if you like, or just tap Done .

That’s it! Now play your slideshow, and you’ll hear that musical background you selected.

There are many ways to improve your PowerPoint presentation---adding animations to objects, customizing slide transition styles, and using interesting themes to name a few. In addition to all that, you can also add music to your presentation.

PowerPoint makes it very simple to add music to your presentation. Adding music to your presentation may be a great idea, but there are also cases where it may be considered unprofessional. We’re not here to tell you when to do it, just how to do it, but make sure it’s appropriate for the situation.

Switch to the "Insert" tab and then click the “Audio” button.

A menu will appear, giving you the option to either upload music from your PC or record your own audio track.

If you’d like to record your own audio, select “Record Audio,” and the “Record Sound” window will appear. Go ahead and give your audio a name, then click the “Record” icon when you’re ready to start.

After the “Record” icon is selected, a timer will start which gives you the total length of the sound being recorded. Once you’re ready to stop recording, press the “Stop” icon. To listen to your recording, you can press the “Play” icon. If you’re happy with what you're recording, select “OK” to insert it into your presentation.

If you prefer to upload music from your PC instead, go back to the audio options menu and select “Audio on My PC.” This will open your PC’s directory. Locate the audio file you’d like to use, then select “Insert” at the bottom-right of the window. PowerPoint supports several popular formats, like MP3, MP4, WAV, and AAC.

Now you’ll see a speaker icon appear in your presentation. Here, you can play the audio, control the volume, and move the audio back or forward 0.25 seconds.

Additionally, the “Playback” tab appears in the ribbon. By default, the “Audio Style” is automatically set to “No Style.” This means that the audio will only play on the slide where you insert it, the icon will appear in the presentation, and the audio will only begin once you click that icon.

But you can change all that. You can use the options here to adjust the default playback volume, choose whether the music starts automatically or on a click, whether it plays across other slides, whether it loops until you stop it, and so on.

We’re going to change this by selecting “Play in Background” in the “Audio Styles” section.

There are a few other options available to you, as well. You can add (or remove) bookmarks for specific times in your audio clip, trim parts of the audio, and give your audio a fade in/out effect.

Apple events and product introduction videos are well known for using excellent music. They fill up many of our music libraries. The company does an incredible job curating the perfect tunes. Instead of having to Shazam each song from today’s special event or going over to Apple’s YouTube channel, you can find all of the music that Apple used today directly below!

Each of today’s major product introductions featured some great music. I particularly loved the iMac reveal done to Lizzo’s “Better in Color.” You can find that video and others from the event embedded below. The video that played at the beginning of the keynote that flew all over Apple Park following the rainbow lines was very cinematic. Unfortunately, the song that played as the camera swooshed around Apple Park isn’t technically out yet. That song, “The Darkness You Fear” by The Chemical Brothers releases on April 23 . In the meantime, you can enjoy the rest of the songs used in the presentation and add them to your Apple Music library.

How Apple Presenters Create Slides That Tell Stories in 3 Seconds or Less

Apple's presentation designers are experts at creating memorable and shareable messages--especially statistics..

If you want your audience to remember and share specific numbers, statistics and data points in your presentation, you're probably designing your slides all wrong. Overwhelming your audience with multiple charts, graphs, and words on one slide is the single worst way to deliver information, according to neuroscience .

The most effective way is the Apple approach . On Tuesday, Apple launched new products --including a new Macbook Air and iPad--at a press event in the Brooklyn Academy of Music. During the presentation, Apple CEO Tim Cook delivered some numbers he wanted everyone to know about. Many of the journalists and bloggers in the room ended up using the same statistic in their headlines: 100 million.

• "There are now 100 million Macs in use" (TechCrunch)
• "Apple says there are 100 million Macs out in the wild" (CNET)

Why are these headlines calling attention to the same number? It's the way Apple wants it. Apple's presentation designers are experts at creating memorable and shareable messages--especially statistics.

The strategy is so effective that you shouldn't give another presentation without incorporating it. Here's the trick.

Stick to one number per slide and build up to it. 

Tim Cook didn't bury the statistic in the middle of a slide with other numbers on it. He built up to it, his voice starting soft and growing louder, before dropping it on the audience:

"The Mac continues to attract many new customers. In fact, over half of Mac buyers worldwide are new to Mac. We're adding millions and millions of new customers every quarter, bringing our total active installed base to a new major milestone--of 100 million Macs!"

Right on cue, the statistic "100 million" drops into the slide with animation to make it look like it's kicking up dust upon landing. It's that big a number that it figuratively lands with a thud. The font size took up the nearly the entire length of the slide. 

The human brain cannot absorb too many pieces of information at once. Give your audience too many numbers to remember at once and they're unlikely to remember any of them.

Apple speakers apply this rule to product specs, too. If you look up articles or reviews about the new Macbook Air, you'll likely find this statistic in nearly every one: 10 percent thinner. That, too, is on purpose.

When Apple executive Laura Legros introduced the new laptop on stage, she showed a slide with one image: the new computer side-by-side with the previous version. "It's incredibly thin. It's just 15.6 millimeters," she said.

That was the build-up. Next, she said: "That's 10 percent thinner than the previous air." 

In one photo and one statistic, you get the big picture. 

Some of the best professional designers in the business have told me that slides should be simple enough to get the key message across in about 2-3 seconds. That leaves very little room for too many words.

It's why the one message per slide rule works well. If you want people to remember one number, make it the only number on the screen. If you want your audience to associate the statistic with a product or company, attach the number to a photo. But that's it. 

One number per slide. It's a proven tip that will make your message instantly memorable.

This feature can also give a little extra umph to a school presentation — for example, a presentation on America in the '60s could be enhanced by the addition of some Motown music in the background.

1. At the top of the PowerPoint screen, on the toolbar, click the "Insert" tab.

2. Under "Insert, on the right side of the screen, click "Audio."

3. If you're using a PC, click the option for "Audio on My PC." If you're using a Mac, click the option for "Audio from File" or "Audio Browser."

Note: You can also record your own sound if you select "Record Audio."

4.  Locate the file you'd like to use, then click "Insert" in the dialog box. You can use MP3, MP4, WAV, or AAC files.

5. The file will appear on your PowerPoint as a little playback bar. You can use this to control the song. Move it to a part of your slide where it won't be in the way.

6. If you want the sound to play throughout the presentation, rather than just on the slide that the audio file is located on, click on the file to bring up the "Playback" tab on the toolbar at the top of your screen, and click on it.

7. Directly underneath the "Playback" tab, click the option for "Play in Background" to play the sound throughout. 

Adjust any other options you want in this tab, like volume, fade in and out, and looping. When you're finished, return to the home tab to continue working on your presentation, or click save to finish.

Music in PowerPoint presentation

We have been able to insert music into the PowerPoint and it plays the music, but the slides do not change. Once they change, the music stops even though we have told it to play the music through all the slides. Any suggestions for the problem?

Create slideshows in Photos on Mac

In Photos, there are two ways to create slideshows:

Quickly play an instant slideshow of the photos from a day, complete with a theme and music.

Create and save a slideshow project. You select a group of photos, then add text, choose a theme, add music, and set how long each slide appears. You can export a slideshow project to play it on a Mac, iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV.

When you play an instant slideshow, you can select a theme and music for the slideshow, but you can’t customize the slideshow further.

Select some photos in a day, then choose File > Play Slideshow.

Click Themes, then select a theme.

A preview of the theme appears in the pane.

Click Music and select the song you want.

To turn off or select different music, click the song again to deselect it, then select a different song.

Click Play Slideshow.

To stop playing the slideshow, press the Escape key. Press the arrow keys to skip forward or back through the slides, and press the Space bar to pause the slideshow.

Create a slideshow project

Choose File > Create > Slideshow > Photos.

Click the Slideshow pop-up menu and choose New Slideshow.

Type a slideshow name in the Slideshow Name field, then click OK.

To reorder photos, drag photos into the order you want them in the bottom of the window.

You can change the theme at any time. The theme you choose determines text position, fonts, and the transitions that appear between slides.

Choose Theme Songs from the pop-up menu to see music included with Photos, or choose Music to see music from your Music library. Drag the songs you selected to change the order they play in. To delete a song, select it and press Delete.

Set the slideshow to match the length of the selected music: Select Fit to Music.

Set a specific display time for the slideshow: Select Custom, then drag the slider to specify how long the slideshow should play.

Set a transition for the entire slideshow: Select the Transition checkbox, then choose a transition type from the pop-up menu.

Set slides to fit the screen: Select the “Scale photos to fit screen” checkbox.

To see a preview of the slideshow, click the Preview button.

To stop playing a slideshow, press the Escape key. Press the arrow keys to skip forward or back through the slides, and press the Space bar to pause the slideshow.

Note: Slideshows appear in the My Projects folder in the sidebar. If you use iCloud Shared Photo Library , you must choose Both Libraries from the Library pop-up menu in the toolbar to see projects you’ve created.

Add or remove photos and text in a slideshow project

Do any of the following:

Delete text from a photo: Select the text in the photo or select the T frame before the photo in the row of thumbnails, then press Delete.

Delete a photo from the slideshow: Select the photo you want to delete, then press Delete.
