Nursing in PGIMER

• It has a great faculty who are fully determined in providing quality education and practical experiences. The college has large classrooms and multiple labs for practice.
• The college is situated in the pgimer campus which is one of the best tertiary care hospital in india and it provides great clinical exposures with all types of cases from simple to complex . We get posted in various departments during our graduation
• We have to regular in the college as the clinical areas require 100% attendance. If the attendance is up to mark, we have to complete it in the vacations and it
• The number of assignments we have to make is huge. It is a tedious task but helps us a lot in studying while preparing for exams.

Course Curriculum Overview :

We have very large number of subjects to be covered during our entire course. All the subjects are directly or indirectly influencing the patient care we provide. The subjects start from the basics and towards the end is more focused on specialized care for various individuals . Most of exams are of 100 marks with 25 marks of internal assessment. Internal assessment is based on all the assignments and tests during the entire session. The final exam is for 75 marks and 3 hours. The exam is conducted by the PGIMER being a university. The invigilators are also administrative staff. None of college faculty is there during exams. The exams are uniform and very much relevant to practical skills. We do have practical exams conducted to test our skills. Computer is also being added as a subject to cope with upcoming trends in hospital settings.

The curriculum of the course lacks at some points like proper class, schedule of some departments like biochemistry and physiology, anatomy department is the best with the best curriculum and experienced teachers. Exams are held semester wise, and the difficulty is moderate

• Anatomy department having the best curriculum and experienced faculty
• Upper cafe providing the best varieties of delicious cuisines and fast food
• Curriculum of the classes is not so organised
• Repetitive exams causing students to get a hectic schedule

The curriculum of the course is not upto the mark , anatomy classes have the best curriculum but the biochemistry and physiology department is not so good , propper classes are not organised, jn the curriculum, clinical curriculum is very good which allows the students to excell in the clinical field. The curriculum of the classes should be improved. Exams are also held semester wise

Life of PGI

• Sports complex and the social environment of the campus, environment of the campus
• The upper cafe, which provide a variety of fast food and cuisines
• Physiology and biochemistry department, it doesn't provide a good curriculum
• Stipend provided is very low according to the hectic duties assigned

The curriculum of the course is not good enough, anatomy classes are best and the faculty is really good and experienced. Other faculty of physiology and biochemistry are not good enough Exams are taken semester wise

I choose this course because of the increasing number of patients suffering with kidney problems. Curriculum is well planned with proper classes and tests viva and practical and studentship also . I want to improve this in a way that students give more time to learn not only for working during postings. The frequency and tyming of exams is okay and their difficulty level is fine according to schedule and classes.

About my course is that I am currently pursuing BSc in Operation Theatre Technology which has a higher level in all other paramedical courses and I think it is best for any abroad job also with a great income. About the academics is that everyone has to study on its own, get ready to make your reflexes starts acting faster. The difficulty level of the exams held is of such kind that we would become habitual to face problems and handle them easily in future when we are doing our job. Teaching methods include PPTs for different topics which we also have to make on our own and the consultant will explain each and every point or concept included in our presentation. PGIMER Chandigarh moves ahead with 100-seat MBBS course plan

Pgimer has proposed a state-of-the-art medical college with an intake of 100 students for the mbbs course, which it plans to start at the institute’s extension in sarangpur, chandigarh.

Moving forward with its plan to launch its MBBS course next year, the Post Graduate Institute of Medical education and Research (PGIMER) will present the proposal before its standing finance committee for budget approval from the central government.

PGIMER has proposed a state-of-the-art medical college with an intake of 100 students for the MBBS course, which it plans to start at the institute’s extension in Sarangpur. The 500-bed hospital is being set up at at an estimated cost of ₹ 1,800 crore.

It will be the first time at PGIMER, which has been teaching post-graduate courses, that an undergraduate programme will be started on the lines of AIIMS, New Delhi. At present, Chandigarh has only 92 MBBS seats in the general category at the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32.

In June this year, the standing academic committee (SAC) had given in-principle approval for setting up a medical college for MBBS and also a 500-bed hospital, an extension of Nehru Hospital, having all clinical departments required for running the course. The hospital will have all clinical departments and enough beds, as per the National Medical Council guidelines.

It will also be equipped with modular operation theatres, an administrative block, a library, accommodation for faculty, paramedical staff and students, and a learning resources centre with a first-of-its-kind integrated skill lab for imparting soft skills and surgical skills in all specialties.

Kumar Gaurav Dhawan, deputy director, PGIMER said, “The agenda for setting up the MBBS course will be placed before the standing finance committee, which is scheduled in October. The budget approval will also be a part of the meeting, as Rajesh Bhushan, secretary, Union ministry of health and family welfare, will chair it.”

The hospital’s SAC had proposed various subjects in the MBBS course, such as concept of yoga science, ayurvedic science and traditional medicine. New branches, including aviation medicine and organ transplant, were also recommended.

Meanwhile, PGIMER director Dr Vivek Lal said, “Our proposal is ready to be tabled in the SFC meeting and soon after getting the proposal, we will start working on it. The MBBS course and 500-bed hospital will help in managing patient load with the help of more number of trained doctors and healthcare staff.”

The college has experience and a wide range of knowledge to gain, the environment and campus are also very good and it has a very great medical environment which allows the students to excel in their respective fields.

The entrance exam is conducted by the institute every year in July, the exam is for 100 marks in physics, chemistry, biology, English, and general knowledge. The counseling process occurs at the end of August in the institute.

• Faculty, college , campus life is good .
• Hostel facility is also good and it lies near to the academic blocks and campus in PGI .

Good aspects of my college include gaining knowledge from Resident Doctors, Consultants, and even Professors. Also, the supporting staff pattern is good. Some Bad aspects include very less stipend as compared to other institutions and colleges. The Admission process includes passing the Entrance examination for Paramedical students which helps every year nearly in May or June Month. Only two rounds of counseling occur in offline counseling.

Little bit about physios

• PGI is most prestigious college and you get to know a lot of new things in this college.
• As AIIMS donot have physiotherapy, this makes pgimer to be the best college fir physiotherapy.
• Faculty is helpful and they teach various new things.
• Campus Life is also very entertaining and interesting.
• There is a lot of burden of the patients and the staff sometimes don't co-operate so in the end of the day you're exhausted.
• There is no dedicated faculty , which makes studying very difficult. There is no proper system for teaching.

Factors that made me choose this college were: 1. Pgimer is one of the most prestigious colleges in India with a ranking of 2 among all medical colleges in India. 2. Physiotherapy is a growing field and a lot of people still don't know about physiotherapy. 3. In this course we get to treat the patients without using any medicine. There were no group discussions or interviews for the entrance. The exam for this course is conducted once in a year and its mode is online. One can fill out the form from the primer site. For the preparations, class 11th and 12th syllabus which includes biology, chemistry, and physics is enough. Apart from this gen English and gen knowledge are also included in the exam syllabus. There are 100 mcqs in the exam and a negative mark of -1. The exam is 3 hrs. The result is in the form of percentiles.

PGIMER Chandigarh is a reputed institution and is the 2nd best institution in the country which made me choose it. An all India level entrance examination is conducted for admission to the paramedical courses . It was a CBT comprising of physics chemistry biology sections along with English and GK.

• I like the infrastructure of the advanced eye centre ,every machine is lastest and up to date
• Campus life of the pgi is very good ,a student can enroll In many cultural programs and fest.
• I don't like the the boys hostle, waiting period for hostel is very long and takes at least one year.
• Theory classes in my course is very less .

My marks in neet was less , so I tried for BSc. Paramedical pgimer test , my college is very good in term of practical knowledge but theoretical classes are very less in the course. Afimission process is based on percentile in Bsc.Paramedical exam more than 95 for general. My neet preparation is enough to get selected.

The college is good in terms of experience and practice. I got admitted by giving entrance exam where we were given choices to choose centres. We got admitted at the same time we attended counselling and joined within three days. I gave entrance while preparing for next exam.

It was the only center in India for the postdoctoral course (DM) in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine for almost two decades (since its inception in 1989).
