Costello was hired by Swallow Marketing Corporation as a counter salesperson for San Fernando branch six months ago. His official working hours begins at 9:00 AM and ends at 5:00 PM from Monday to Friday. It Is almost that he serves customers till 6:00 PM. He does not complain and he feels happy that his unit Is performing. An evaluation of the numbers of units sold by Rowdy's unit Indicated a 50 percent Increase for the past six months. That period coldness with the period that Rudy had en working for the company.

There were four salesperson In the branch who were able to sell 80 units of the company's products during the six months prior to Rowdy's hiring. When Rudy came in, he sold 40 units and the other four duplicated their previous

six months' output. This rough the total sales of the unit to 120. The four salesperson have been working for the company for over two years and each receives a monthly salary of P20000. As a new recruit, Ruddy salary is pegged at Pl 1000 per month.

Rudy can only hope for an increase after salary reviews which are made by top management every two years. After six month stint, Rudy has become entitled to the only benefit, the 13th month pay. He has to earn his vacation and sick leave benefit. Rowdy's supervisor is happy that his unit was able to sell more with Ruddy help. Leaders of international nongovernmental organizations (INGOs) navigate daily between the internal politics of their own organization and the external environment. Frequently, these leaders have to make decisions with regard to starting or managing a partnership or collaboration. Although there is extensive literature on collaboration, rarely have the leaders’ own perceptions been the focus of analysis. This article draws on transcripts from 137 in-depth, in-person interviews with senior executives of U.S.-based INGOs. The research questions are: What leadership skills and behaviors are perceived to be important among executives of INGOs? and Do leaders view these skills and behaviors differently based on whether or not they are involved in collaborative partnerships? The results show that consensus-driven and visionary leadership are dominant across all leaders, no matter their level of involvement in collaborative partnerships. However, we find differences with regard to other leadership areas. Leaders involved in partnerships are more likely to emphasize motivational leadership and relationship management. Leaders who do not work in partnerships place more emphasis on task-oriented aspects of leadership: decisiveness, cost-effectiveness, and marketing & outreach. These results provide new insights into the possible causes of differences in leadership styles and have implications for both nonprofit and public management.

Significance Statement The emergence of social sector has become a driving force for organizational change and innovation in China. However, creating a social organization and scaling its impact in China's social sector are challenging under the conditions of strict regulations and complex institutional environment. Counterintuitively, our research demonstrates that it is this complex institutional environment that creates an impetus for actors to explore discretionary organizational structure and practice. Our research unpacks the underlying process and mechanisms and offers implications for understanding organizational change and innovation in Chinese context.

Sustainable development goals (SDGs) have become increasingly important for today's firms as they build sustainability strategies that integrate SDGs into their core activities. Addressing these goals collaboratively, in line with SDG 17-partnerships for the goals, has gained momentum, hence the growing literature on sustainability-oriented partnerships. However, addressing SDGs through partnerships is not straightforward. For firms, contributing to SDGs through alliances and partnerships requires building environmental capabilities and embracing new value frames; in other words, going through the complex process of inter-organizational learning. This paper reviews the literature on sustainability-oriented partnerships with a focus on the inter-organizational learning process. As a result of the review, a model of inter-organizational sustainability learning is presented. This model captures the different levels and types of the inter-organizational learning process; partner and partnership characteristics that impact learning; the environmental conditions that set the conditions for learning to take place; the catalyst and inhibitors of learning; and finally outcomes of learning. This model expands and reorganizes the existing scholarly conversation about inter-organizational learning in the context of sustainability-oriented alliances and partnerships and offers a learning-based understanding of sustainability partnerships to practitioners. Based on the review, the paper proposes ideas for future research and contributes to the development of a future research agenda in the area of sustainability-oriented alliances and partnerships.

Abstract: One initiative largely stimulated through public policy to strengthen firms’ innovation capacity is the creation and consolidation of Incubators and Science & Technology Parks (ISTPs). These habitats aim to foster innovation through, among other methods, the promotion of resource complementarity and action interdependence. Empirical studies, however, have not been conclusive about this. This article analyse the relations between resources provided by ISTPs and the elements of collaborative R&D. We conducted a survey with Brazilian ISTPs and analysed the results using a quantitative multilevel approach. Our study suggests that these innovative environments do affect collaborative R&D, but not by through the services and infrastructure they provide. We indicate possible alternatives to support future studies that analyse ISTPs in emerging countries.

According to McCartney in his book The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present , he was inspired to write this ballad after buying a farm in 1966. The long and winding road he sings about was a very real pathway that could be seen from his window in Argyllshire, Scotland. After a few years of looking at the road, he decided to use it as a jumping-off point for this Let It Be cut.

Despite McCartney having a finite inspiration for the song, he also writes about the “double meaning” the track took on because of the time in which it was released.

“One of the most fascinating aspects of this song is that it seems to resonate in very powerful ways,” McCartney writes in The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present . “For those who were there at the time, there seems to be a double association of terrific sadness and also a sense of hope.”

Though Abbey Road is the Beatles’ official swan song, Let It Be was the last album the foursome released. In the lyrics, McCartney created a bittersweet goodbye. While on the surface the goodbye seems to be to a lover, if you apply the same sentiment to his breakup with the band, an even more poignant meaning arises.

“The Long and Winding Road” is a unique offering in the Beatles’ catalog. According to McCartney, the song’s distinctive sound was a result of him trying to imitate other artists to “keep things fresh.”

“Often when I write a song, I do a bit of a disappearing act myself,” McCartney added. “For example, I imagine it having been recorded by somebody else – in this case Ray Charles.

“There’s always someone else you can invoke,” he continued. “You can put on a mask and a cloak as you’re writing something, and it takes away a lot of the anxiety. You discover as you get through it that it wasn’t a Ray Charles song anyway; it was yours. The road leads not to Campbeltown, but to somewhere you never expected.”

Social innovations, which increasingly take place in interorganizational networks, occur in environments characterized by resource scarcity. To secure access to resources, social innovators need to establish legitimacy for their initiatives. Yet, empirical work investigating the process of establishing legitimacy for social innovation—also known as legitimation—is absent. This research aims to uncover how legitimacy is established when social innovations are developed, over time, through interorganizational networks. To investigate this process, the research adopts a longitudinal case study of a network of five market‐leading organizations in the home care sector. A process‐based analysis of evidence from 33 meeting observations, 45 in‐depth interviews, and 249 documents reveals three novel findings. (1) The attainment of overall legitimacy depends on the establishment, over time, of three types of legitimacy targeted at different audiences. These are framed as building blocks oriented toward achieving interorganizational, multilevel, and external legitimacy. (2) The process of establishing legitimacy, across the building blocks, is underpinned by two dominant combinations of patterns—denoted as courting and demonstrating commitment. (3) Variation in two underlying mechanisms—conflicting tensions and role promotion—drives the enactment of these patterns across the different building blocks. The study's novelty lies in the extrication of critical types of legitimacy and dominant patterns and mechanisms which underpin the process of establishing legitimacy. It contributes to social innovation and innovation legitimation literature by providing a deep‐grained understanding of the process to establish legitimacy within social innovations carried out through interorganizational networks.

Practitioner Points

  • Managers and policymakers should be cognizant of the need to establish three types of legitimacy when developing social innovations in interorganizational networks: interorganizational, multilevel, and external legitimacy.
  • To establish different types of legitimacy, social innovators are advised to iteratively engage in combinations of actions akin to courting and demonstrating commitment.
  • Managers should avoid trying to speed up the development of social innovation, as this can cause resentment and ultimately slow down the legitimation.
  • If policymakers want to stimulate social innovation in interorganizational networks, they should launch incentives for iterative re‐engagement in courting and demonstrating commitment to key bodies.
