Hiya! My name is Kenzee and I am the Assistant Director here at All About Kids Anderson! I have worked for All About Kids since October of 2017. How to Write a Compelling Teacher Bio with Samples

A teacher’s solid online presence is essential, and a well-written bio is a crucial part of that. In this blog, I will guide you through creating a teacher bio that effectively showcases your skills, experience, and unique qualities to potential students and employers.

Understanding Your Audience:

As a teacher, your bio is your chance to introduce yourself to potential students and showcase your unique qualifications and teaching style. But before you start writing, it’s important to consider who will read your bio. Tailoring your bio to your audience can make all the difference in capturing their attention and standing out online.

Who will be reading your bio? Your audience will likely consist of students and parents looking for a teacher to help them achieve their academic goals. They may also include fellow educators and administrators interested in your teaching methods and experience. Knowing your audience will help you understand what they are looking for in a teacher and how you can appeal to their needs and interests.

Tailoring your bio to your audience:

Once you have identified your audience, it’s time to tailor it to their interests and needs. For example, if you target students, highlight your experience teaching a particular subject or your success in helping students improve their grades. If your audience is parents, you should emphasize your approach to creating a positive and engaging learning environment for their children.

What do they want to know about you?

What strategies can be used to address the needs and interests of the individuals.

To make your bio more appealing to your audience, it’s essential to highlight the aspects of your teaching that align with their needs and interests. For example, if you know that your audience values a teacher who is passionate about their subject, you can showcase your enthusiasm for teaching and the topic you specialize in. If your audience is looking for a patient and understanding teacher, mention your experience working with diverse groups of students.

Highlighting Your Education and Experience:

Emphasizing relevant degrees and certifications:.

One of the first things potential students or parents will look for in your bio is your educational background. Make sure to highlight any relevant degrees or certifications that you have earned, as they demonstrate your commitment to your field and showcase your knowledge and skills. This includes your teaching degree, advanced degrees, or specialized certifications in a specific subject or teaching method.

Highlighting teaching experience and accomplishments:

Including any specialized training or expertise: , below are the some high quality teacher bio examples :.

1. John Smith is a veteran teacher with over 20 years of classroom experience. He holds a master’s degree in education and is passionate about helping students achieve their full potential. John is known for his dynamic teaching style and ability to connect with students on a personal level. His classes are challenging, but also engaging and fun.

4. Karen Lee is a highly qualified science teacher with over 15 years of experience teaching in both public and private schools. She is a graduate of MIT and is passionate about STEM education. Karen’s classes are hands-on and interactive, with a focus on real-world applications of science. She also encourages students to participate in science competitions and has mentored several award-winning teams.

7. Jane Smith is a certified elementary school teacher with 10 years of experience in the classroom. She is passionate about integrating technology into her lessons and has been recognized for her innovative teaching methods by both her colleagues and superiors.

10. Michael Johnson is a high school music teacher with a Master’s degree in music education from Juilliard School of Music. He has conducted several award-winning school orchestras and is an accomplished pianist and composer.

12. James Green is a special education teacher with extensive experience working with students with a range of learning disabilities. He is also the department head for special education at his school and has developed a comprehensive program that provides individualized support to each student.

13. Fiona Brown is a high school science teacher with a passion for making science accessible and engaging for all her students. She has collaborated on several research projects with her students and has been recognized for her work by several scientific organizations.

How to Make Your Education and Experience Stand Out In a Crowded Field:

In a competitive field like education, making your education and experience stand out is essential. One way to do this is by using specific and quantifiable examples in your bio. For example, instead of just mentioning that you have a teaching degree, you could say, “I have a Bachelor’s degree in Education from XYZ University, where I graduated with honors and received the Outstanding Student Teacher Award.” This showcases your education, highlights your achievements, and sets you apart from others.

Showcasing Your Teaching Philosophy and Approach:

why it’s important to share your teaching philosophy: .

Sharing your teaching philosophy is essential for building trust and credibility with potential students and their parents. It allows them to understand your values, beliefs, and approach to teaching, giving them a glimpse into what they can expect in your classroom. It also helps them determine if your teaching style aligns with their child’s learning needs and goals.

How to Effectively Communicate Your Approach to Teaching:

including specific examples and anecdotes: , making your teaching style and methods clear and appealing: .

In addition to your philosophy, it’s essential to highlight your teaching style and methods. This could include your technology use, approach to classroom management, or strategies for differentiating instruction. Please explain how your teaching style benefits students and why it makes you stand out as an educator. Use positive and enthusiastic language to make your approach appealing and exciting to potential students and their parents.

Adding Personal Touches and Unique Qualities:

Sharing personal experiences and interests that relate to teaching: ,  highlighting unique qualities and strengths that set you apart: .

What makes you stand out as a teacher? Is it your ability to connect with students on a personal level? Your creativity in lesson planning? What is your passion for a particular subject? Whatever it may be, highlight these unique qualities and strengths in your bio. This will help you differentiate yourself from other teachers and show potential students and parents what makes you unique as an educator.

How to Strike a Balance Between Personal and Professional In Your Bio:

Tips for writing a strong and engaging bio:,  keep it concise and focused:.

You want to provide enough information to give readers a sense of who you are and what you offer, but you want to ensure they get all the details. Stick to the most relevant and impressive aspects of your education and experience.

Use a friendly and approachable tone:

Incorporate keywords and buzzwords:, proofread and edit for clarity and impact:.

Before publishing your bio, proofread and edit it for clarity and impact. Check for spelling or grammatical errors, and ensure that your sentences flow well and are easy to understand. You want your bio to be polished and professional.

Use a call to action to encourage further engagement:

Conclusion:.

In conclusion, crafting a compelling teacher bio is essential in building your online presence as an educator. It allows you to showcase your unique qualities and experiences and effectively communicate your teaching philosophy to potential students and parents. By following the tips outlined in this blog, you can create a bio that stands out and captures your audience’s attention.

I have a true passion for working with our youngest learners!!  Helping each child progress in all areas of their development—academic, social, language, and motor—is a challenge that I am honored to accept daily.  I strive to create a community of learners that nurtures this growth in a positive, fun environment.

Personally, I have been married for 22 glorious years and have three fantastic children who are 21,18, and 15 years old and attend Parkway Schools and Mizzou.  We love to watch our kids' sports—tennis, volleyball, basketball, baseball, and swim! I also enjoy reading, cooking, music, relaxing at the beach, and spending time with friends and family.

I look forward to working together with you as partners in your child’s growth and development!!

Teachers Biography

Feyrouze Chunara

Feyrouze Chunara – Owner/Director

I believe that children thrive if they have a balance between structured activities, and those that are self-chosen. All children need time to explore their environment, to discover and invent on their own. Play allows for this, therefore it is a good thing to protect. It is my intention to continue to support our developmentally appropriate curriculum.

Credentials

Feyrouze Chunara , proprietor of Learning Clock Montessori, has always been passionate about education. She holds a masters degree in biochemistry, and taught at a university in Pakistan before relocating to the United States.

In the years following my son’s birth, I became interested in how children’s minds worked. Once I had my son, my passion changed to preschool. What better way to serve the community than to focus on children from birth through age five? The first five years of a child’s life are known to be the formative years. When children receive a strong foundation-quality education coupled with a commitment to provide a safe and loving environment, they stand an excellent chance of reaching their full potential as human beings, ready to take on challenges that will come their way!

Silvia Akter

Silvia Akter- Preschool Teacher/Director

I believe in the Montessori method of education because each child can develop and grow at her/his own pace, and this opens the door for them to reach their full potential. A developmentally appropriate curriculum can incorporate some very important life skills which will enhance a child’s understanding of his/her environment. Learning how to negotiate and reason with peers amicably, developing patience, and learning common courtesy, are to my mind, important life skills. At Learning Clock Montessori School , children enjoy a balance of teacher guided curriculum, and free play time, which I believe provides a healthy learning environment.

Zeb Hussain

Zeb Hussain – Preschool Teacher

Teaching children has been a consistent joy for me, and giving back to the community has always been one of my primary goals! I believe that a teacher must be devoted to the children in her/his care, patient, and willing to listen carefully to what the children say. It is also essential that a teacher be responsive to those children who are needing attention, and speak in a positive, caring tone when addressing a child.

Anita Chattmon

Anita Chattmon- Pre-K Teacher

I believe that it is important to incorporate pre-writing skills, drama, arts and crafts, and outside play, into the children’s weekly schedule. I love helping children gain practical life skills, and watching how they develop into confident individuals who can then say, “ I can do that, or, “ I don’t need any help!” Children who are in my care learn to identify the sound of letters, to count, and to develop pro-social behaviors. Young children may often need assistance to form friendships, and to learn how to take turns, or share curriculum materials. Caring teachers can help them with these things.

Anita has been working with young children for the past thirty years. She received an early childhood development degree from Merritt College in Oakland.

Mei Zhang

Mei Zhang – Toddler Teacher

Supporting children to achieve their highest potential has been very rewarding! I believe that children learn best in a nurturing atmosphere where they feel free to be creative and express themselves. Providing children with a developmentally appropriate environment which promotes their self-esteem, and encourages them to interact with peers and with curriculum/natural materials in meaningful ways, is one of my priorities. When children feel empowered to make appropriate choices, and are respected for who they are, they thrive!

Mei Zhang has worked with children for eleven years, the first five years of which were with school aged children in an after school program. Shen then worked with both infants, and preschoolers in an early childhood program. Mei is a fully qualified teacher who has completed over thirty early childhood education units, and is CPR and first aide trained and certified. Mei is bilingual, speaking English and Chinese (Cantonese,Mandarin).

Alanna

Head of School/Executive Director

Joined Sunshine: Fall 2000

Alanna is in her twentieth year at Sunshine Montessori! She began her work at Sunshine while finishing up as a student at the University of Minnesota, majoring in Early Childhood Education. After graduation, she enjoyed several years as the lead teacher of the Toddler House prior to taking the role as Sunshine's Head of School. Alanna worked in small businesses from the age of sixteen and put herself through college by working as an office administrator before gaining experience as an assistant at Sunshine. The blend, between education and business administration, in the role of school Director naturally fit her in 2009 and has been both challenging and rewarding ever since! Her favorite thing about Sunshine is the community relationships and lasting friendships. Watching these develop, in both students, parents and staff, over the years has been just one of the highlights. Alanna has loved working with the various parent volunteers, on Sunshine Board of Directors, to create a strong vision for Sunshine that includes ensuring we are a unique and close-knit group of individuals who ensure we provide a positive, caring, beautiful and educational environment for both the children and the teachers to enjoy each day. Alanna grew up in the metro suburbs and resides just outside of St. Paul with her husband and two teenage daughters, who are both Sunshine alumni! She loves to cozy up with a good book, baking and getting away to travel or to relax at her family’s cabin in Wisconsin.  Her favorite childhood memories include playing with her two sisters, her cabbage patch kids, riding bikes with neighborhood kids and spending summers in upstate New York at her grandparents’ lake cabin.

Programming Director &  Summer Program Coordinator Joined Sunshine: Summer 2006

I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Speech/Language Pathology with a minor in Special Education from Florida State University. I enjoy working with children because they are delightful and inspiring; I am grateful to have a job where I can support their growth and nurture their love of learning. There isn't a day that passes which doesn't include a hug, a silly story or even a smile which makes my work day! I believe as Early Educators that we help build a strong foundation which positively supports the child's educational and human journey throughout their life. Sunshine is a special place because the teachers are forward thinking educators who strive to be leaders in our field. We are constantly pushing ourselves to grow in all aspects of programming, such as how we develop and present curricula. Our small community is a wonderful nurturing place and I so enjoy my time with the children and my co-workers.   I was born in Iowa but moved to a retirement community in Florida with my parents when I was thirteen. I attended high school and college in the South. After graduation, I relocated to Minneapolis where multiple family members lived. I now live in Minneapolis with my husband, three children, and two dogs and one snake. I am an avid hockey fan, gardener, reader, and crafter! My favorite childhood memory is camping with my whole family.

Joined Sunshine: Fall 2009

I hold a degree in Elementary Education with a Pre-Primary emphasis from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. I decided on a career in education because I am passionate about creating an environment for children that supports and encourages a love for learning from a young age. I will often say "Toddlers are my people" because I truly enjoy what I do and appreciate each unique personality that I meet in our toddler community. The toddler years go by quickly and it is a privilege to have this opportunity to support each child during a time of incredible growth. Just like the children, I love Sunshine! I look forward to each new partnership with families, as together we support and encourage the children. Sunshine is a place where we gather to dedicate our time, thoughts, and love into this common goal and value: The children.   I grew up in MN in a large family; two sisters and one brother. I am very close with and proud of my family. Each of us chose a career path that enables us to make a positive impact and care for others; from teaching to coaching to healthcare. When I am not caring for children, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, my husband son and our dog! I also enjoy traveling, my favorite places are Grand Marais and Oregon. While I enjoy seeing new sights and exploring, my favorite spot is our backyard, playing yard games or relaxing on our back deck watching soccer games on the fields behind our house. I grew up playing and coaching soccer on the same fields! Many of my favorite memories from childhood have to do with my first love, soccer, and I have the fun privilege of sharing this game with the Sunshine Kickers each summer.

I hold a degree in Fisheries and Wildlife from the University of Minnesota and attended the Montessori Center of MN to receive my AMI diploma in 2006. What I enjoy most about working with young children is their innocence and love for learning! The phrases they use and their conversations with their peers are sometimes hilarious, too. I believe that early childhood education is so important because it is the time when the child is shaping his/her personality, routines, and has a drive to learn. What I enjoy about working at Sunshine is that it is peaceful. The teachers are truly devoted to the children's well-being, and it's like a family.   I grew up in MN and live out in the suburbs with my husband and our two kids. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Law, from my home in Venezuala,  yet my true dedication and passion have predominantly revolved around the realm of design. Following my degree, I embarked on a two-year journey at a fashion school in Barcelona, which further solidified my commitment to the creative domain. However, the pivotal moment arrived when I welcomed my first daughter into the world. It was then that I discovered the Montessori approach and felt a profound connection. Eager to delve deeper, I pursued my initial Montessori training in the Children's House Primary Program and then onto the Associates to Infancy Toddler training! Embracing the opportunity to work closely with these fundamental years has granted me a priceless gift, a continual reminder of the profound significance of being entirely immersed in the present moment. As I reflect on my experiences, I am reminded of how these formative years, marked by their innocence and curiosity, have shaped my perspective on life.  One of my most cherished childhood memories took place in Spain. I had the wonderful opportunity to travel frequently and immerse myself in a world filled with wonderful food, breathtaking nature, captivating museums and the presence of family that made those memories truly unforgettable.  Additionally, I am Passionate nature explorer, museum, and design/art enthusiasts. Thriving in the great outdoors, I find serenity in nature's embrace.

When I was old enough, I would help my Mom after school. Then in high school and college, I worked at a self-esteem camp for middle schoolers. Both of these experiences helped me realize my love of working with children. I love watching how young children's minds work; they are amazing! I enjoy seeing them excel in the Montessori environment by gaining independence and confidence. What I most enjoy about working with young children is the relationships I have been able to build with them and their families. Sunshine has a wonderful sense of community.   I grew up in outstate MN and moved to the Twin Cities for college and I have lived here ever since. My interests and hobbies include: Power walking, reading, singing, binge-watching Netflix shows, and spending time with my family and friends. My favorite memory from my childhood is putting on performances with my brother for our parents every Friday to kick off the weekend. They were usually songs we liked or plays we made up.

As a teacher, you are required to introduce yourself to parents and students in a professional way, and what better way to do that than through a teacher bio. A teacher bio can help build trust and credibility with parents and showcase your expertise and experience to potential employers. In this article, we will guide you on how to write a professional teacher bio that stands out and leaves a lasting impression.

Understanding the Purpose of a Teacher Bio

A teacher bio serves as an introduction to who you are as an educator. Its purpose is to give parents and students a brief summary of your background, experience, and qualifications. With a teacher bio, you can communicate your teaching style and philosophy, and highlight your unique qualities that make you a great teacher.

Introducing Yourself to Parents and Students

Your teacher bio should start with a brief introduction of yourself. Include your name, grade level, and subject you teach. You can add a personal touch by mentioning something that sets you apart from other educators, such as a hobby or interest that relates to your teaching.

For example:

Hi, my name is Emily and I teach 4th-grade science at Sunnydale Elementary School. When I'm not in the classroom, you can find me exploring the great outdoors or trying new DIY projects.

Showcasing Your Expertise and Experience

One of the main purposes of a teacher bio is to showcase your expertise and experience. Be sure to mention any relevant degrees, certifications, or accolades that prove you're well-qualified to teach. Include any professional development training you've undergone to show that you're always learning, growing, and improving as an educator.

With over 10 years of experience, I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Education and am certified to teach K-6. I have also completed various professional development courses in STEM education, which have allowed me to incorporate real-world problem-solving into my lessons.

Building Trust and Credibility

As an educator, it's important to build trust and credibility with parents and students. Showcasing your human side can go a long way in helping you to achieve this. Be authentic in your teacher bio by sharing a little about who you are, what you believe in, and what motivates you as a teacher.

As a teacher, I am committed to creating a fun, safe, and inclusive learning environment for all students. I believe that every child has the potential to succeed and that as educators, it's our job to help them reach their full potential. My goal as a teacher is to inspire and empower my students to become lifelong learners and critical thinkers.

Essential Elements of a Professional Teacher Bio

Personal background and education.

Your personal background and education are important elements to include in your teacher bio. Mention your academic achievements, formal education, and any other relevant experiences that relate to your teaching field.

I graduated from XYZ College with a Bachelor's Degree in English, and I also hold a Master's Degree in Education. My passion for education started at a young age, and I spent many summers volunteering as a camp counselor, which developed my love for working with children.

Teaching Philosophy and Approach

Your teaching philosophy and approach is crucial in your teacher bio. It shows how you approach teaching, your beliefs, and values. Be clear on how you view your role as an educator and what you hope to achieve through your teaching.

My teaching philosophy is centered around the idea that every student can succeed with the right support and guidance. I believe in creating a collaborative learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring their ideas. As a teacher, I encourage critical thinking and problem-solving, and I aim to provide a variety of learning opportunities to cater to different learning styles.

Relevant Experience and Accomplishments

Don't forget to mention any relevant experience and accomplishments in your teacher bio. This can include volunteer work, extracurricular activities, or any past work experience that showcases your skills and abilities in the field of education.

I have experience working with students in various capacities, including after-school tutoring, summer camps, and teaching overseas. In 2019, I was awarded "Teacher of the Year" by the local school board for my innovative classroom practices and dedication to my students.

Professional Development and Certifications

Include any professional development courses or certifications that you have completed in your teacher bio. This shows that you're committed to continuous learning and growing as an educator.

I am certified to teach K-8 and have completed various professional development courses in literacy and reading instruction. I also have experience with technology integration in the classroom and have completed several courses on using technology to enhance student learning.

Writing Tips for an Engaging Teacher Bio

Use a professional tone.

Your teacher bio should be written in a professional tone, but it doesn't necessarily have to be boring. Use clear and concise language that is easy to understand, and avoid using overly complicated words or phrases.

Be Concise and Clear

Keep your teacher bio concise and clear. Stick to the essential information and avoid including irrelevant details. A well-written teacher bio should be no more than 300-500 words.

Highlight Your Unique Qualities

Showcase what sets you apart from other educators. Highlight your unique qualities, such as your teaching style or any personal interests that relate to your teaching. This will help parents and students remember you and can make you stand out in a sea of teacher bios.

Include a Personal Touch

Include a personal touch in your teacher bio. Show your human side by sharing a little about who you are, what you believe in, and what motivates you as a teacher. This will help build trust and credibility with parents and students.

How to Write a Teacher Biography

How to Write a Teacher Biography

Sometimes supplying a short biography, rather than a resume, is required for professional purposes. In these cases, it's best to have a thorough yet succinct and compelling profile on hand. The bio can be chronological, starting with earliest influences and reasons for becoming a teacher. Or you can work backwards, describing your current professional duties first and then earlier experiences, including college and student teaching.

Explore this article

  • Make Form Follow Function
  • Review Your Teaching Highlights
  • Connect Teaching Past and Present
  • Give It a Personal Touch

1 Make Form Follow Function

Tailor your teacher bio to meet the specific requirements of the application or publication in which it will appear. Eastern Illinois University recommends that student teachers keep their biographies to seven paragraphs. This format is likely intended for a hiring school administrator seeking in-depth understanding of an applicant's teaching philosophy.

Depending on what the biography is used for, however, a professional full-time teacher's bio can be as short as a paragraph. Teacher biographies, for example, may appear on a school website to be read by parents and students. For this reason, teachers should have two biographies on file, a full-length and an abbreviated version.

2 Review Your Teaching Highlights

Spend some time brainstorming about your accomplishments, taking note of career and personal highlights. Start by looking at your resume to jog your memory. Remember, this isn't the time to be humble. Talk with a supportive colleague or friend for suggestions about your most noteworthy achievements and special talents. Read other teachers' bios for ideas about form and content. Then, create an outline that defines the best placement for these assets.

3 Connect Teaching Past and Present

Some essential details for your bio are early academic successes, especially if they're relevant to your current role. For example, if you won your state spelling bee as an elementary student and you now administer the spelling bee program for the school, that's relevant and compelling information that the reader will want to know.

You should include where you went to college and what type of educational training you focused on -- whether you trained to be an advanced placement teacher or a music teacher, for example. Any academic honors should be noted, as well as any significant student-teaching experiences. Make sure to connect these formative experience to your current role at your academic institution -- what classes you teach, teams you coach, or clubs you advise.

4 Give It a Personal Touch

A bio is more than a list of professional accomplishments. It's the story of a person's life, and that story is more compelling when it includes personal information. The story of why teachers enter the profession can be engaging and memorable; telling your most rewarding teaching experience can define you and your values in a positive way, too. You might want to reveal how your family life, hobbies or volunteer work influence your teaching. Stories of education models and favorite teachers are also effective in providing a prospective employer with an idea of what kind of teacher you really are and aspire to be.

5 Tips for Creating a New Teacher Bio

PIC of Loris Bio from 2002

Last week, while teaching Make Money Teaching DIY Classes , a student asked me:

Do you have any tips for creating a bio (one that instills confidence or actually might draw students to your class), especially when one is just starting out and may not have much teaching experience yet?

The word biography is defined as “a written account of another person’s life.” And of course, “bio” is short for the word biography. (I guess that explains why bios are almost always written in third person and not first person… I always wondered about that!)

Out of curiosity, I also looked up the origin of the word Bio. The root of the word in Greek means life, and in Latin means living. So, you could think of a bio as a chance to share with your future students what in your life has lead you to the moment where you will be teaching this topic or class for them. Obviously, if you have teaching experience – share that. But if you don’t, there are plenty of other things you can include.

PIC of Loris Bio from 2002

From the Archives: Lori’s Bio, Circa 2002

Here are My Top 5 Tips for Creating a New Teacher Bio

1. Tell them your experience with the thing you’re teaching.

Let’s say you’re teaching a class on soap making. How long have you been making soap? Do you sell it? Where? Why did you start making it? If you make it for gifts, are your friends beating down your door to get it? What makes your soap recipe special?

Ex. Alana has been a soapmaker ever since 2014 when she took a class and was hooked. Her all-natural cocoa butter & mint soap is sold at quirky mom & pop shops throughout the Bay Area.

Side Note: If you’re not yet confident about WHAT you’re teaching, then it’s probably not a good idea to have strangers spend their hard earned money to learn from you. You don’t need to be a know-it-all “expert,” but be sure your recipes are thoroughly tested and your understanding of the entire process is solid before “teaching” others.

2. Share WHY you are teaching this topic.

Enthusiasm is contagious. If you’re passionate about bath fizzies, tell us why! Let people know that ever since you learned how to make this fabulous product, your life hasn’t been the same. And how you want everyone to experience that too. You can also convey your enthusiasm and passion about teaching. For me, the act of teaching is as exciting & important as what I’m teaching (this is precisely why I’ve decided to share my knowledge about teaching).

Ex. Susie is so passionate about using & making natural deodorants, that she will never buy a big-brand deodorant/antiperspirant again. More importantly, she can’t wait to share her knowledge with you in this unique class.

3. Let them know about any teaching experience you’ve had.

My first real teaching experience was at The University of Hawaii as an undergrad, teaching 9 students in a program called Freshmen Seminar where everyone sat on the floor (including me). Then, to cover my tuition while in graduate school, I was awarded a teaching assistantship and taught several Public Speaking 101 labs with about 35 students each (this time, we got to sit in chairs in a real classroom). My first soap class bio briefly mentioned my experience working as a teacher and my master’s degree. It didn’t have anything to do with soapmaking, but if nothing else, I felt it might give people some confidence in my teaching ability, and that helped me feel more confident.

If you’ve never had any experience teaching anyone in any capacity, just skip this one and move on to #4.

4. Add a little bit about who you are, outside of this topic & teaching.

This is your chance to let your personality shine through. You could try to keep it related, like saying that you love to garden or cook healthy meals for your family. Or, you could offer something completely unexpected and quirky like you have a pet snake! Think about what other crafty adventures you have been on that your future students might appreciate. Being authentic is an attractive quality that will hopefully pique the interest of your target audience.

Ruth with Rusty

5. Don’t lie or exaggerate in your bio.

I know this seems like an obvious break in integrity (and it is), but artificially inflating experiences to make yourself look a little better is not uncommon. CareerBuilder.com surveyed over 2,500 hiring managers and 56% reported catching job candidates lying on their resumes. The most frequent “fib” was embellishing one’s skills or capabilities. Whether it’s stretching the truth about your teaching history or your proficiency in the chosen topic, just say no. You certainly don’t want to embarrass yourself and find your nose growing by the end of your class.

Well, I really hope these tips will help anyone trying to write a bio as a new teacher. If you find them useful, please let me know in the comments below.

And then get on out there, be yourself, and be confident in your abilities. It’s okay to tell people the truth & say: “This is my first time teaching a class like this, and I’m a little nervous.” Then your big secret is out, and you can relax and enjoy the experience. To quote Zig Ziglar, “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.”

Zig Ziglar Quote

If you’re a good fit for teaching, you’ll love it, and people (in the form of students) will be drawn to you. I’d better end this here… I really need to go update my bio.

Shepherd of the Valley Preschool Educators

All our teachers go above and beyond their job descriptions to keep our community safe and provide the best care for our children and families.  In our 2021 family survey 100% of families “felt that the entire staff are highly qualified and genuinely love teaching children.”

Julianna Strong is the new interim director of Shepherd of the Valley Preschool. She received her Bachelor of Science at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM. Julianna is a native to the Albuquerque's North Valley. She has worked as a childcare give and advanced her way into a director. She is obtaining a director's certification. She is involved in the North Valley Community and is part of the NV Little League Committee.

Outside of the preschool, Julianna loves spending time with her husband and kids, Aysa and Andyn. Julianna enjoys watching a good baseball game, camping and taking her family out to discover nature. She is passionate about working with children to reach their potentials through play and discovery. She is excited to take on this journey to help develop your children's creativity and imagination.

Meet The Teacher Ideas & Downloads

July 18, 2011

Can y’all believe Meet the Teacher night is right around the corner?!  For some of us, it’ll be here much sooner than later.  I was going through some of my files and came across my “Meet the Teacher” packet, so I thought I’d share it with y’all incase y’all can put any of it to use.

Some of y’all cutie K teachers asked for the Kindergarten versions of the handouts for the Meet the Teacher packet. They’re *slightly* different from the first grade versions, but not by much!!!  Click on the pics to download your copies.

And apparently I can’t spell.  I like to go on FILED trips instead of FIELD trips 🙂  Thank you girls for pointing that out!!!!  If you need the edited version, here it is:

Thank you so much for the printables. I so need to get all this ready for our first day of school. One quick question – I can no longer show the page that I have uploaded to google doc. on my blog with the link. I use to change to "older verion" and go from there but now I can't. Would it be too much trouble to explain to me how to embed the doc. into your blog – prety please! I would SO appreciate it.

@Jessica…I have the files in Kindergarten format also…I can send those to you…just send me your email address!!

@Mrs. I…I'm trying to figure out how to get all the fonts to "stick". The words get all jumbled when I try to send 🙂

July 18, 2012 at 6:38 pm

You need to embed the fonts if it's a pdf…

can you email me editable files for first grade? I just found out I'm teaching first for my first teaching gig!! I don't have a clue what my schedule will look like until a long time from now, so modifying this one will be much easier..

I love the colored font with dots at the top…what font is that? Thanks for the great worksheets 🙂

July 19, 2011 at 12:47 am

Wow, this is amazing! Thank you so much!

I also have what is a rather stupid question- how do you have insert such cute borders around your pages? I have yet to figure out how to insert anything other than the boring Word ones!

July 19, 2011 at 1:52 am

These are adorable!

One thing I did that was fun was to have a small brown lunch sack with a note on the front telling the kids to bring it back on a specified day during the first week filled with three things that described them. On their day they brought it and we shared them throughout the day to give us little breaks during that first week whirlwind. (I'm not currently teaching…well, actually I will be…just my own children…I'll be homeschooling for the first time…prek, K, and 2nd…gasp!) Anyway, it's amazing what they find to fit in those tiny little bags and it's great to see what they feel is important (and it's cheap).

One other thing I had set up in my room for open house is a graph of who came with them to open house. I made one large graph labeled with brother, sister, mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, etc. They had to get the stickers and put one on the chart for each person who came with them. Again, we referred to the graph during the first week of school for some quick activities.

Great idea about having the kids sort the supplies. Sometimes the simplest things are just genius!

Now, I've got to come up with some cool back to school activities homeschool style. Getting to know you probably wouldn't work….we know each other pretty well already. LOL!

July 19, 2011 at 2:15 am

Hey! Where are your borders and fonts from? They look like DJ Inkers. Is that where? I adore them! Let me know, please. My email is [email protected]

July 19, 2011 at 2:16 am

OR an editable format would work too. But I want to make them in the future…aha!

July 19, 2011 at 2:39 am

Thanks so much for sharing these! I was looking for a different way to do Meet the Teacher and these were right on time. Ms.A

I don't know if it would be easier to post them or send via email as you suggested before there were many of us requesting the kinder pages. Whichever you decide I would definitely like to have a copy. Thanks for making it all cute and organized for the rest of us!

August 7, 2012 at 6:46 pm

Hello. I read your note at the top about not being able to edit these documents due to copyright. I do not want to edit them, I just want to print them. Specifically the what is my child learning so I can sort of use it as a guide or print it just the way it is. However it won't open to print. Is there any way I can print it just the way it is or that you can tell me what it says? I would love some input. Thanks so much for your blogging and sharing your ideas. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to get this document printed. Thanks again. [email protected]

Why this resume works

  • Ah, that resume gold that is attention-grabbing metrics like “meeting the needs of 18+ children per day” and “improving reading speed by 40%.” These are magnets for a recruiter’s eyes, and putting them on the back burner could make you miss out.
  • By empowering your duties and achievements throwing with strong action verbs (cue “Balanced”, “Developed”, and “Crafted”), ideally, at the beginning of your bullet points, you’re essentially tuning into the hiring manager’s favorite frequency. As desired, you’ll stand out in an ocean of candidates.
  • Highlighting valuable skills (we’re talking “ECSEL,” “parent communication,” and “compassionate care”) in your work history section shows you’ve put in the hours to advance your skill set, which is music to the recruiter’s ears.
  • The icing on the cake? Ensure your masterpiece is a match for the job description. Pulling this off by incorporating relevant keywords and phrases, such as “teach emotional self-regulation” is not just a walk in the park but it’s your ticket to proving you’re the perfect answer to the hiring team’s search.

Entry-Level Preschool Teacher Resume

Entry-level preschool teacher resume example with 3 years of experience

  • If you have any relevant work history, include it in your work experience.
  • Note: even though your job title might state “assistant,” your work experience bullet points should minimize the word “assisted” or “helped.” When you’re looking to move out of a supervised role and take a more independent position, highlight instances when you took the initiative or implemented ideas.
  • Other relevant work experience might include nannying jobs, volunteer positions, internships, or even school projects where you worked with children.
  • If you lack relevant experience, you can always include less relevant work demonstrating time management, patience, and communication. These soft skills are needed in all fields!
  • If you decide to include an objective in your entry-level preschool teacher resume , list specifics about the job, such as the job title and school name.

Senior Preschool Teacher Resume

Senior preschool teacher resume example with 15 years of experience

  • This helps you in three specific ways. First, it lets employers quickly see the most relevant (and likely most important) job you’ve held.
  • Second, it demonstrates growth in your career.
  • And third, the reverse-chronological  resume format  works best for Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) to properly synthesize your resume. If your information is out of this order, ATS could mistakenly label your most recent job as your oldest.
  • There are tons of rules to  building a resume  that gets you your dream job, and our free  resume checker  can reassure you that your senior preschool teacher resume is up to the task.

Lead Preschool Teacher Resume

Lead preschool teacher resume example with 12 years of experience

  • Show how you led educators to adopt technology to improve their skills and support the growth and performance of your students.

Preschool Director Resume

Preschool director resume example with 11 years of experience

  • Go ahead and mention how you used technology tools (read Brightwheel and Childcare Manager) to improve parents’ involvement in school activities.

Preschool Teacher Assistant Resume Example

Preschool teacher assistant resume example with 12 years of experience

  • Your skills section should contain six to ten skills to give hiring managers a feel for your capabilities without giving them a laundry list to read through.
  • The skills you include should be as highly tailored to the job as possible. For example, “web surfing,” “MySpace,” and “baker of great cookies” do not belong in your skills section.
  • Instead, include essential preschool teaching skills such as lesson planning, patience, communication, and empathy.
  • A preschool teaching job posted online frequently receives over 200 applicants. And since the hiring manager tasked with reviewing applicants is also a teacher or principal, they often can’t look at every resume.
  • That’s why they use applicant tracking systems (ATS) to automatically filter out candidates who don’t have enough skills that match the  job description . To avoid being automatically rejected, you need a skills section ideally matching 80 percent or more of those listed in the  teacher job description .

Early Childhood Educator Preschool Teacher Resume

Early childhood educator preschool teacher resume example with 4 years of experience

  • Patience and a positive attitude are essential skills, but hard skills like lesson planning and proficiency in a second language are also crucial to hiring managers.
  • Focus on relevant projects or jobs:
  • This might include running a summer camp, babysitting, running an after-school program, or working at a daycare.
  • If you have limited experience working with kiddos, focus instead on work, projects,  hobbies, activities, and interests on your resume  that require a high degree of patience, kindness, and attention.

Jim and Cathy Sunderman- Owners

Jim Sunderman is a graduate of Xavier University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Jim has over 40 years of management experience. Jim and Cathy are also the owners of the All About Kids West Fork location. Jim was the successful owner of an independent grocery store for many years. The grocery business ran in his family and he was the fourth generation to take up the trade. After the family sold the store, Jim was approached with the idea of building a childcare center on the west side of town. He was impressed with the quality of care at All About Kids Liberty Township when he went for a visit and decided that this would be a wonderful opportunity for his family. Jim is very involved at both centers and you will often see Rosie, Jim’s b eagle, right by his side while he is working at the center.

Cathy Sunderman graduated from The University of Cincinnati with an associate degree in 1979. Jim and Cathy were married in 1980 and have four daughters and eight grandchildren. She spent many years as a stay-at-home mother and also cared for a few children in her house as well. During this time, she was a Girl Scout leader, softball coach, and girls’ basketball co-coordinator at St. Ignatius School. Cathy worked alongside Jim at the grocery store with their four daughters. After the grocery store was sold, she worked for a major retailer in downtown Cincinnati for 11 years. She now helps out at both daycare centers. Her hobbies include spending time with her family and friends.

Teacher Autobiography Sample

When composing an educational autobiography you want to highlight your unique and important life experiences and summarize them in one or two pages.

Educators are using an autobiography in their portfolio more today than ever before, especially those in higher-education positions, such as college instructors, deans, and university professors. Many corporate trainers, teachers, superintendents, principals, or assistant principals also incorporate them into an about me page or in their job search portfolio.

Teachers Resume Writing Process

Social networking in education should be an important part of your education job search. Autobiographies don’t replace a searchable LinkedIn Profile to showcase you as an educator.

Career changers also use an autobiography in their portfolio to show the reasons they are making the transition into education .

In the sample we discuss Elizabeth’s desire to be a stay-at-home mom prior to embarking on her teaching career. From this experience she gained an awareness of the needs children have and can enter the teaching field with a transformed idea of what she would like to achieve.

While writing your teacher biography, make sure you don’t include any negative details, think of the reader’s perception of what you have done.

15 Brilliant Examples of Teacher Introduction Letters to Parents

Get ready for the new school year!

Teacher introduction letter examples including a Meet the Teacher checklist and Meet the Teacher fact sheet.

A new school year is about to begin. Are you ready? One of the best ways to get back into the groove is to write your teacher introduction letter to parents. This is a great time to reflect on previous years while setting an intention for the year ahead. Take time to curate the message you want to send, but don’t stress over it. We’ve put together some tips and examples to help you get started.

Tips for Writing a Teacher Introduction Letter to Parents

Make a friendly introduction.

Set the tone for your letter (and the school year!) by using a warm and friendly voice to introduce yourself to parents and students. Personalize this section by including the student’s name and class information. This is also helpful for parents who may have more than one child at the school.

Give them your background

Take a moment to highlight your education, experience, and skills to give them a better idea of your professional background and qualifications. Be sure to share any special training or certifications you’ve received as well as any goals you’ve set for the year.

Tell them why you are a teacher

There are many reasons why parents might find it harder and harder to leave their children in a classroom. Showcase your passion, teaching philosophy , and love for being a teacher, and let them know you are open and available to discuss any of their concerns during the school year.

Teacher Introduction Letter to Parents Examples

1. put preschoolers at ease.

2. Build relationships with parents

Use your teacher introduction letter to parents to let them know that you want to be a team. Build a rapport and encourage them to share all of the things they love about their child.

3. Show them who you are

Meet the teacher letter for back to school

It’s important to give parents important information about your educational and professional background, but you can also use this space to share some personal details to help them get to know you better.

4. Ask parents for an introduction letter

Back to school teacher introduction letter to parents

While it’s essential to send out teacher introduction letters, why not ask for one in return? Invite parents to share anything and everything they want you to know at the beginning of the school year so you can get on the same page.

5. Make it a family affair

Example of teacher introduction letter to parents

Let parents know that they are part of an extended family based in your classroom. Welcome them to be involved, set “family rules,” and make it clear that they have a seat at the table.

6. Provide class information

Meet the Teacher
