A Step-By-Step Guide to Writing an Essay on a Book

Topic and assignment prompt, essay structure, why is it important.

How to write an essay on a book

Outlining Essay Structure

Organizing your essay efficiently is important for making sure it’s clear, concise, and to the point. Before you start writing, it’s important to understand the basic structure of an essay. Most essays are composed of an introduction, body, and conclusion.

The introduction serves as an opening paragraph where you should introduce the topic and provide any necessary background information that readers may need in order to understand the essay. A good introduction will explain why a reader should care about your topic and capture the attention of the reader.

The body is the main section of the essay where you will provide evidence, quotes, and any other relevant information to prove your point. It is important to make sure that each body paragraph has only one main point, and all of the evidence presented in the paragraph supports that one point.

The conclusion is the last paragraph of the essay. It should wrap up all of the points you made in the body and leave the reader with a sense of closure. It should also create a takeaway, or something for the reader to remember about what they have just read.

To make sure your essay is organized and has a consistent tone throughout, it is important to outline what each section should include. Outlining your essay structure before beginning eliminates unnecessary stress and makes sure you don’t forget any important points.

Research Phase: The Importance of Researching the Book

Before you dive into writing your essay on a book, you’ll want to make sure that you have done your research. No matter how familiar you are with the subject, it’s important to conduct research to ensure that your essay is accurate and well-informed.

Research can help you form a stronger thesis statement, better support your arguments, and provide evidence for your claims. It can also help you to organize your thoughts, uncover new ideas and angles, gain a deeper understanding of the text, or even find quotes or references that you can use in your essay.

Research should always come first. It helps to lay a strong foundation for the rest of your essay and it can save you from making any embarrassing mistakes. Have a clear understanding of the book’s themes, characters, and plot before you begin. Read reviews and criticisms, and take down notes for later.

Start by reading the book itself. Take your time and pay attention to details. Make notes, highlight any important passages, and consider different interpretations. After you get an overall gist of the book, expand your research outward into scholarly reviews, biographies, and other texts that can provide an objective, informed perspective.

The more research you do, the stronger your essay will be. Be sure to include all of the sources you used in your bibliography section. Research can be a tedious process, but with enough effort and dedication, you’ll be able to craft a well-informed, thoughtful essay on any book.

Pre-Writing Phase: Planning Your Essay

The pre-writing phase is the most important part of writing an essay on a book. Taking the time to plan your essay and organize your thoughts will help structure your argument and make your writing smoother. The pre-writing phase should involve a few key steps.

  • Brainstorm – Before you start writing, spend some time thinking about the book and how it relates to any themes, characters, or symbolism. Jot down your ideas so that you have a better understanding of what you want to focus on.
  • Outline – Write down some notes and make an outline of what you will cover in each paragraph. This will help you stay organized while writing and keep everything on track.
  • Research – Research any facts or quotes you may need to include in your essay. This will help you back up your claims and make your paper stronger.

Taking the time to plan ahead will help ensure your essay on a book is written clearly and effectively. You’ll be able to shape your argument easily and make sure you don’t miss anything important.

Thesis Formation

The thesis statement is a critical part of any essay on a book. It should be clear, concise, and capture the main argument and point of view of the essay. To ensure that your essay’s thesis statement is well-crafted, it is essential to follow a step-by-step guide.

Step One: Brainstorming Ideas

Before writing a thesis statement, you should brainstorm some ideas related to the book’s content. Consider the key elements of the book and think about how they could be connected into an argument or observation. Write down any ideas that pop into your mind, and use them as a basis for forming your thesis statement.

Step Two: Developing the Argument

Once you have a few ideas in mind, it is time to start developing a coherent argument. Try to make a connection between the ideas to create an original argument. Then, think about why this argument is important and what makes it relevant to the text.

Step Three: Writing the Thesis Statement

Now that you have an argument in mind, you are ready to craft your thesis statement. It should be a single sentence that clearly and concisely expresses your main argument. Generally, it should follow the same structure as any other essay’s thesis statement, stating the primary point of view, the evidence supporting it, and any other relevant details.

Step Four: Proofreading

The final step of crafting a great thesis statement is to proofread and edit it. Make sure that the statement is clear, concise, and captures the argument accurately. Additionally, pay attention to grammar and spelling. A minor mistake can weaken the force of the statement significantly.

Creating an effective thesis statement can help get your essay off to a strong start. As long as you follow these steps, you will be able to form a well-developed argument that can help you write a great essay on a book.

Drafting an Organized Paragraph

Drafting your essay is like painting a picture. It can be intimidating at first, but with the right tools and techniques you’ll be able to create an organized and impressive essay.

When drafting your essay, the most important thing to remember is to write in an organized manner. This means your thoughts should be expressed in a logical flow and in a way that makes sense. Each paragraph should begin with a topic sentence that introduces the main point of the paragraph and then should be followed up with evidence that supports it.

To ensure your essay is well-structured, it’s helpful to plan out each paragraph beforehand. Outlining the main points of each paragraph can help you stay on track and make sure each paragraph has its own clear purpose.

Once you have a clear plan for each paragraph, you can start writing. Remember to keep your sentences concise and on topic. Each sentence should have a purpose and help to support the main idea of the paragraph. To make sure your ideas flow smoothly, try reading each sentence aloud; this will help you identify any confusing sentences or spot any gaps in your argument.

Finally, once you have drafted each paragraph, read through the whole essay to make sure it all fits together. Ensure the order of the arguments makes sense, and that there is a clear connection between each paragraph. Being mindful of this when writing will help make your essay more organized and compelling.

Writing an essay on a book can be a daunting task, but if you take it step-by-step, you’ll find that it quickly becomes easier. Concentrate on writing each individual paragraph in an organized manner and then tie them all together for a cohesive essay.

This should give you a good overview of the paper and allow you to spot any major issues. The next step is to go through the paper again and make notes as you go along.

You should pay particular attention to grammar, spelling, typos, and structure. Make a note of anything that stands out and needs to be changed. Don’t worry if you can’t fix it right away – just write it down and come back to it later. The goal is to get an overall picture of what needs to be done.

Finally, it’s time to make the actual changes. Take your time and read each sentence carefully before you make any changes. Don’t be afraid to delete or add content between paragraphs to ensure that the essay flows naturally.

Understanding the Assignment

Writing an essay on a book can be quite a challenge for many students. One of the most important skills for tackling this task is to understand the assignment. To begin, students should read carefully and take notes on the writing prompt. Pay close attention to all the instructions as they are key to crafting an effective essay. This includes being mindful of any keywords or phrases in the prompt that will require further research.

When interpreting the instructions, it is also important to consider any extra guidelines or expectations the professor may have provided. These can include formatting, length, and specific areas of emphasis such as themes or characters. Questions such as ‘Who is the protagonist?’ or ‘How do the themes interact?’ should be actively considered while writing the essay. This helps produce a focused piece of work that is tailored to meet the requirements.

In addition, consider questions such as ‘What do I need to include?’ or ‘What is the purpose of this essay?’. Answering these questions allows students to identify their main points and develop an argument around them. This is a crucial step for forming an essay that is logical and cohesive.

Finally, students should always use the essay assignment to test their understanding of the book. It is often beneficial to leave time at the end of the writing process to review knowledge and reflect on any unanswered questions. Doing so ensures that the essay is comprehensive and addresses all aspects of the prompt.

Understanding the  assignment is a vital step when writing  an essay on a book. By paying attention to the prompt and any additional guidelines, students can ensure that their assignment is focused, detailed, and suitable for the task.

Effective Use of Quotes

When writing an essay on a book, it is important to use quotes to effectively show the reader your understanding of the material. Quotes should be used when they illustrate a point, demonstrate a concept, or further explain something you wrote in the text of your essay.

The following are some tips for incorporating quotes into your essay:

Make sure your quote is relevant to the main argument of your essay.

Choose a quote that is engaging and thought-provoking.

Include the right amount of detail – don’t use too much or too little.

Explain the quote in your own words and provide context.

Think critically about the quote and how it applies to your argument.

Integrate the quote into your essay so that it flows naturally.

When adding in a quote, you must also include proper citation. Depending on the format of your essay, this might require putting quotation marks around the quote and including the author’s name and page number at the end of the quote.

Using quotes in your essay may seem intimidating, but it is an essential part of demonstrating your understanding of the material you are discussing. When done correctly, quotes add depth and detail to your paper and make it more interesting to read. Make sure to choose quotes carefully and that they are meaningful to your paper—they can make or break your essay!

Long Essay on My Favourite Book 100, 150, 200, 250 Words for Kids and Students in English

I love reading books, they are indeed my ‘best friends’. It is a tedious task to choose a good book because thousands of books are published every year. I always take the suggestions made by my teachers and parents into account while choosing a book. Some days back, my uncle gave me one as a birthday gift as he knows my love for books. It is called The Mahabharata’ and has been written in English by Anand Sagar Chowdhry and published by Goodwill Publishing House, Delhi.

Essay on “My Favorite Book-The Mahabharata” In English

When I went through the first chapter, a fascinating story unfolded itself. King Satyavan married the daughter of a washerman and his son from the first wife took a pledge to remain a bachelor all his life. He came to be known as Bhishma Pitamah. The story was so eventful that it was very difficult to keep pace with the individual events.

The battle between the Kauravas and Pandavas is so well known that it need not be repeated. In the middle of the epic stands The Gita which serves as a lighthouse. It sheds light on the theme of the whole story. The language is so poetic that one floats in its divine stream. Lord Krishna tells us to perform our duties without having any expectations about the rewards.

We should forget the sense of affection as it blurs our minds while performing our duties and meeting out justice. We should strive for excellence in whatever we do. This body is short-lived but the soul is eternal. It never dies. It keeps on changing bodies just as we keep on changing clothes. Fire cannot burn the soul nor can the sword cut it. When death is a must, why should we be afraid of it?

It was this “celestial song” ‘Gita’ that helped Arjuna to perform his duty boldly and fearlessly, keeping his personal affections at bay. The author also tells us that the struggle always continues in our hearts. Whenever we are in doubt about whether we should do something or not, we should seek guidance from The Gita.

The Mahabharata has changed the whole course of my life and I wish that it should be read by everyone. The book is especially recommended for those young people who have yet to begin their careers.

Short Essay On My Favourite Book Panchatantra In Hindi

मेरी प्रिय पुस्तक | Paragraph on My Favourite Book in Hindi

How to Write an Essay On Books

To write a good essay about books on a free topic, you just need to understand what you want to get. And, based on this information, make a plan.

To begin with, you need to understand the difference between these concepts:

  • Are you writing a personal opinion about a book? You can tell whether you liked it or not, what in it caught you or repulsed you.
  • Or is it an overview of the story lines? A full description of what is written in the book, your thoughts on the main points of the book.
  • Or is it a description of the book? Then highlight points of interest. This kind of text usually encourages you to read it.

If you are writing an essay on books for school, you probably need to write a book review.

Preparing for the essay

The experts at StudyCrumb Educational Agency assure you that by following a simple procedure, you will be able to write the essay you need quickly and easily.

  • Choose the book you want to write an essay about. It is better if it is one that you have memorized well. Some teachers recommend writing an essay on your favorite books.
  • Make a short outline that includes an introduction, the main part, and a conclusion.
  • Recall what your book is about. Write out a couple of main thoughts that are memorable and seem close to your heart.
  • Write a review of the book, the kind you’d like to write for your friend. In simple, uncomplicated words.

Essay Writing

Having prepared your drafts and outline for your essay, you’ve already done a tremendous job, and it’s just a matter of doing a little bit more. Be sure to remember that the essay about the book you read is your thoughts, feelings, and emotions about the work itself.

In the water part, write about the plot of the book, about the essence, but don’t reveal the intrigue completely, so that your classmates can read the book too. You can quote a few curious places, but don’t forget to justify why you chose them.

In the main part you should write your personal opinion of what you have read. If the teacher did not mention that the book must necessarily be a favorite, you can also write about the book, which, on the contrary, left a negative residue in your soul.

It is better to make the ending short and concise. Write what you like to read, why you like to read, and recommend the chosen work to read all. Check out  http://cheapessaysonline.com/  for quality essay examples for your own inspiration.

Examples of essay on books

An essay about a book leaves the imagination free, especially when you’re a big fan of the book world. But sometimes reading is much easier than writing. So here are a few examples of essays.

Introduction:

“I love to read. Reading helps you immerse yourself in that completely different world. Makes you forget that you are a mere student. You can become a great traveler, fly around the globe, or you can find yourself in a school of magic and learn complex magical sciences. My choice was the Harry Potter book, because that’s the world where I spent my childhood.

“My favorite book is Roald Dahl ‘s Matilda. I think this work is suitable for children as well as adults. Matilda is a little girl with strange parents and a very mean principal. And then, one day, a good teacher shows up at school who treats all the students, including Matilda, with awe. When I was little, I was sure it was just a fairy tale. But now, after rereading this book to refresh my memory, I realize that the book has adult overtones. Matilda is the personification of all the children of the world who face the hostility of adults who should not have been parents or educators.”

The final part:

“I would like to finish my essay about the book “Three Comrades” with the advice: read, look for a moral in any work, and you can become a good person.

These are just examples of how you can write essay on books. Choose your favorite book and write whatever you want to say.

My Book My Inspiration Essay 150 Words

Books, with their extraordinary power to inspire, ignite our imaginations, and shape our perceptions. Books have always been my source of inspiration because they have the power to transform lives in profound ways.

Ever since I was a young kid, I loved to read because it transported me to distant lands and introduced me to unique characters. These literary adventures ignited my creativity and instilled a deep appreciation for the beauty of language. I also developed emotional appreciation for different cultures and languages, transcending cultural boundaries.

Books are my best friends. Books have provided me solace in challenging times. As I grew up, my passion for diverse genres of literature deepened. Each book that I have read, has broadened my understanding

My Book My Inspiration Essay 500 words

Books have always been an integral part of my life, serving as portals to new worlds and inspiration for personal growth. Among the countless books I have read in the past few years, one book stands out as a profound source of enduring wisdom and motivation. The book that holds a special place in my heart is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. From the moment I turned its first few pages, I was spellbound by the narrative  and the wisdom embedded in the book. It has profoundly shaped my worldview and inspired me to strive for a more just and compassionate society.

From the moment I first opened its pages, "To Kill a Mockingbird" captivated me with the way it has maintained its captivating storytelling while exploring complex themes such as racial injustice, moral courage, and the power of empathy. At the heart of the story lies the unforgettable and most remarkable character of Atticus Finch, a lawyer who defends an innocent black man, Tom Robinson, against a charge of rape in the deeply segregated Alabama community. Through Atticus's unwavering commitment to justice and his unwavering belief in the inherent goodness of humanity, I was inspired to confront my own biases and to stand up for what is right, even in the face of adversity.

One of the most profound lessons I learned from "To Kill a Mockingbird" is the importance of empathy and understanding. Through the eyes of the character Scout Finch, a young girl growing up in the turbulent 1930s, I gained a deeper appreciation for the challenges faced by marginalised communities and the need to bridge the divides that separate us. Scout's innocence and her willingness to challenge societal norms taught me to question preconceived notions and to seek out the truth, even if it is uncomfortable or inconvenient.

The book's enduring message of hope and resilience has also been a source of inspiration in my own life. Atticus's unwavering belief in the power of education and his determination to instil in his children a sense of justice and compassion have resonated deeply with me. His unwavering commitment to his principles, even in the face of overwhelming opposition, has served as a guiding light for me in my own pursuit of personal integrity and social justice.

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee has been more than just a book to me. To me, it is a testament to the power of literature to inspire, challenge, and transform. It has shaped my understanding of the world, ignited my passion for social justice, and instilled in me the courage to stand up for what I believe in. As I will move ahead in life, navigating the complexities of daily chores, personal and professional life, I know that the lessons I learned from Atticus Finch and the unique characters of "To Kill a Mockingbird" will continue to guide me, reminding me to always strive for a better world.

100 Words Essay on My Book My Inspiration

Introduction.

Books are a treasure of knowledge and inspiration. My favorite book, which has greatly inspired me, is ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ by Harper Lee.

Impact on Me

This book taught me about courage, empathy, and justice. It helped me understand that standing up for what’s right is important, even if it’s difficult.

Lessons Learned

The protagonist, Atticus Finch, taught me to treat everyone equally. This has inspired me to be fair and kind to all.

‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ is more than just a book to me. It’s a guide, a source of inspiration, and a mirror to society.

250 Words Essay on My Book My Inspiration

The power of perspective.

Frankl’s book, based on his experiences as a Holocaust survivor, delves deep into the human psyche, highlighting the power of perspective in the face of adversity. It teaches that even in the bleakest of circumstances, one can find meaning and purpose, thereby fostering resilience. This philosophy has inspired me to view challenges as opportunities for growth rather than obstacles.

Embracing Life’s Purpose

The central theme of the book, ‘Logotherapy’, posits that the primary motivational force in humans is the pursuit of life’s purpose. It has inspired me to seek my purpose and align my actions accordingly. It’s an ongoing journey, but the book has been instrumental in shaping my approach towards life.

Resilience in Adversity

Frankl’s resilience in the face of unimaginable hardship has been a source of strength. It has taught me that the human spirit is indomitable, and we can endure any hardship if we have a purpose that anchors us.

‘Man’s Search for Meaning’ has had a profound impact on my life. It has inspired me to embrace my purpose, persevere through adversity, and view life through a lens of optimism and resilience. This book, indeed, is my inspiration, guiding me in my journey of self-discovery and growth.

500 Words Essay on My Book My Inspiration

Books have been a constant source of inspiration, offering wisdom, knowledge, and perspectives that shape our worldviews. They serve as windows to different cultures, times, and minds, enabling us to broaden our horizons and deepen our understanding. This essay explores the profound influence of a book on my life, illustrating its transformative power.

The Book That Changed My Life

Unveiling the power of purpose.

Frankl’s book underscored the significance of purpose in life. He argued that even in the most dire circumstances, such as a concentration camp, one could find meaning and thus, a reason to live. This idea significantly shifted my perspective. I started to see challenges not as insurmountable obstacles but opportunities to grow, learn, and find purpose.

Embracing Life’s Uncertainties

Another important lesson from the book was the acceptance of life’s uncertainties. Frankl’s experiences taught me that life is unpredictable, and it’s our response to these uncertainties that defines us. This has encouraged me to embrace change and uncertainty, viewing them as avenues for personal growth and self-discovery.

Inspiring Personal Growth

Impacting my career choices.

Frankl’s book has also influenced my career choices. His emphasis on purpose and meaning has led me to seek a career that aligns with my passions and values. This pursuit of purposeful work has not only brought fulfillment but also motivated me to make a positive impact on society.

In conclusion, “Man’s Search for Meaning” has been a profound source of inspiration for me. It has shaped my worldview, personal growth, and career choices. The book serves as a testament to the power of literature in influencing our lives, reinforcing the idea that books can indeed be our best guides and companions. As we navigate through life, books like these can offer valuable insights, inspire us to grow, and help us find our purpose. The power of a book lies not just in its words, but in its ability to resonate with us, inspire introspection, and provoke change.

My Favourite Book – ‘The Ministry of Utmost Happiness’ by Arundhati Roy.

‘Published in 2017, this book marks the return of Arundhati Roy to the fictional world, after a long hiatus following her acclaimed debut novel, ‘The God of Small Things,’ which won the Man Booker Prize in 1997. ‘The Ministry of Utmost Happiness is a complex and sprawling narrative that weaves together multiple storylines and characters.’

‘This novel is notable for its rich prose and the vivid imaginary skills of the author where she has portrayed the complexities and diversities in Indian society. The main character, Anjum, is a transgender woman who creates a home for herself in a graveyard in Delhi.’

My Favourite Book – ‘The God of Small Things’ by Arundhati Roy.

‘The God of Small Things was the debut novel of Arundhati Roy, published in 1997 and won the Man Booker Prize for fiction. This novel is set in the Indian State of Kerala and weaves a complex narrative, where different themes such as family, love, social injustice and the consequences of societal norms are explored.’

‘This novel employs a non-linear narrative structure, adding to its complexities. This book alternates between two time periods: the main storyline of 1960 and a later period of 1993. This novel revolves around the lives of fraternal twins Rahel and Estha, who were separated after a traumatic incident when they were kids. Their relationship is central to the story, and the narrative explores their individual struggles and the enduring bond between them.’

I consider this novel my favourite because it delves into the rigid caste system and social norms that pervade Indian society, particularly in Kerala. It is set against the backdrop of significant political and historical events in India, such as the rise of communism and the influence of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Kerala. This is a beautifully written emotionally powerful novel that tackles themes of love, loss and social injustice.

James Clear has resonated with readers all over the world with his book, offering profound insights into the art and science of habit formation. Each of these components tells you how habits are formed, maintained, and, ultimately, transformed. This book helps in understanding the mechanics of the habit loop, giving readers a gain to valuable tool to reshare their behaviours intentionally.’

‘One of the standout principles of this book is the ‘two-minute rule’ where the author wants us to build new habits so easily that they can be completed in under two minutes.  This approach paves the way for consistent and gradual progress. It doesn’t matter what your objectives are, but with his rule, you can transform what seems impossible and attain your daily goals and rituals.’

‘The other focus of this book is towards the environment and the crucial role it plays in shaping our behaviours. James Clear demonstrates that whether things are small or big, physical or social, they can have a profound impact on our habits. A personal can create an environment that supports their desired changes by distinguishing between the obvious and undesirable changes.’

‘The importance of continuous progress and improvement is the key message here. James introduces the concept of the ‘plateau of latent potential,’ where progress may be slow in the beginning but once there is consistency, it leads to remarkable growth with unwavering commitment.’

When I read this book for the first time, I was amazed and stunned. The writer Mary Shelley had an amazing imagination power. This book tells the story of a scientist named Victor Frankenstein, who created a hideous sapient creature by his unorthodox experiment.

The entire story is based on that ‘creature’. This book is full of suspense and thrill. I have read it three times and watched the movie too. It is amazing and mind-blowing. This book was published in 1818.

The author Mary Shelley is an astonishing writer who has written tons of beautiful books. I suggest this book to everyone. You should read it if you have not. I am sure you will love this.

Essay on My Favourite Book Quran in 500 Words

Essay on My Favourite Book Quran in 500 Words

People read books to feed their mind that is hungry for knowledge. I am a book lover and I love reading lots of books. I have a list of my favorite books. But one book is very special for me and it’s a holy book in the religion of Islam.

I hope you can guess it’s the Quran. That book has been life-changing for me. And today I will tell you why it is my favorite book and what you can learn from this.

My Favourite Book Quran:

As a Muslim, I was taught the Quran at a young age. But we are not native Arabic speakers that language is being used in the Quran. But when I grew up, I bought English translated Quran for me. I read the whole book within two days and it was a huge breakthrough in my life.

It changed my vision, my perspective, and my motive of life. Let me tell you how all that happened. First of let’s talk about how this holy book came to us. It was almost 1450 years ago, it came to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Allah sent it to his part by part. This book is unchanged and still carrying the same content. The most surprising thing is that it still can be a guide for the ultimate good life after 14 hundreds of years. That’s why Islamic scholars tell ‘the Quran is the perfect solution for life’. Whatever we need to learn, solve, or think everything has been discussed in the Quran.

There was an open challenge for mankind if they make a similar chapter of the Quran. But it’s not possible to write. Because this book has come directly from the Almighty Allah. It wasn’t written by any human.

Why is the Quran My Favourite Book?

Everything that we need to survive in the world has been discussed in the Holy Quran. If you need to find a solution to any too complex problem, you can find a proper solution in this book. You need to have the proper knowledge to research that.

There are lots of Islamic countries in the world that are operating their laws based on the Quran. It is very easy, useful, and great for mankind. Allah said that a person who reads the Quran regularly fills his heart with blessings.

We can earn lots of rewards for the afterlife by reading the Quran. It’s a huge threat to the heart. When we feel sick inside, it helps us to heal it. The Quran has talked about education, medication, science, and different inventions.

There are some surprising things that have been discussed in the Quran and the current science has proved them now. The scientists took the help of the Quran to make the world a better place by inventing new things.

Conclusion:

Overall the Quran is the solution for a complete life. I am sure you will love it if you read it. It should be one of your most-read books.

Essay on My Favourite Book in 600 Words

Essay on My Favourite Book in 600 Words

Books are our best friend and they never leave us. That’s a huge truth that I can realize. I am a passionate book reader and I love to read lots of books every week. We have a family library and my father helps me to collect and buy books.

I have read tons of amazing books, but there are some special books which have taken my heart away. Today I am going to talk about my most favorite books ‘Robinson Crusoe’. This book has always been a different thing for me and I am still reading it again and again. There are lots of lessons to learn from this amazing novel.

My Favourite Book:

My favorite book Robinson Crusoe was written by Daniel Defoe and it first published on 25 April 1719. A very important thing to note is that this book is 300 years old, but the content and storyline are still feeling amazing to the new generation of readers.

This book contains a story named a person ‘Robinson’ who lived on an island for 28 years. He fell in a ship accident and lost everything. Then he found a boat to drive to the nearest island. It was a huge island.

He made his own kingdom there. He collected his food by taming animals and growing some crops. He became a permanent member of the island. Some day he faced something brutal and different. He found a man was naked brought to the island by some cannibals.

He rescued the person and gave him the name ‘Friday’. Friday became his partner but he was also a member of cannibals. That’s why Robinson kept him outside of his tent.

Then Friday became the partner of Robinson and they both made the island an amazing place for themselves. In the end, a ship came to their island and there was lots of adventure and stories that will make you feel thrilled.

Why Do I Like This Book?

There are so many reasons that are why I like this book. The first reason is it teaches me about life and reality. I get very serious when I read this book. I have read it almost 4 times and am still reading it again.

What Did This Book Teach Me?

This book is a huge learning for me. For the first 20 years, Robinson was living there all alone. And that time he managed to survive because of his intelligence, courage, and dedication. That’s a huge learning for me.

It teaches how to keep yourself focused when you are alone and under lots of problems. This story is about how a man creates his own reality. When Robinson found Friday and he became the best companion for him.

He taught him language, religion, and overall civilization. Including all these things this book is like a teacher to me. It helps me to understand lots of harsh reality.

My Hobby Book Reading:

We can learn different types of things by reading books. My hobby is reading and I always read books. I have a huge collection of different types of books.

How I Rediscovered My Love For Writing

An unexpected email from a stranger helped me to think about my career from a different perspective..

write essay on my book

Here’s what I remember most about that day.

The world outside is still, wrapped in the soft hush of a British winter. I sit down at my desk and cradle a cup of coffee. The warmth seeps into my palms, and I try to savor this brief yet fleeting moment of peace, knowing that I need to keep the chaos and stress of being a full-time writer at bay. However, my mind is already miles ahead, running at breakneck speed, chasing after the endless to-do list that never seems to shrink.

I glance at the clock. It’s only 6:32 am. Time is slipping away like grains of sand through my fingers. It’s a currency, I tell myself. Just like money. Except I can never earn it back once spent.

“Is this what my career will look like for the rest of time?” I wonder. Typing 10,000 words a day until my wrists hurt. Constantly chasing down payments so I can keep the lights on and pay my bills. After all, the thrill of writing, once a fire in my veins, is now a dim flicker buried under revisions and reminders to clients who’ve forgotten my worth.

I can’t wait until the day is over, I say so quietly it’s almost inaudible as birds chirp in the trees outside my window. With a swift, fell swoop, my hands drop to the keyboard, and I type the first line of the day, feeling nothing but an overwhelming sense of dread.

Weeks later, an email pops up in my inbox. The subject line is simple: “Thank you.” Curious, I click on it, then run to the bathroom to grab a tissue because there’s no chance I’ll be able to hold back tears.

“I was on the verge of giving up,” the email begins from a young man named Jake. “Life felt unbearable, and I didn’t see a way out.”

Jake explains that he wrote a letter to his family, sealed it with a kiss, and placed it on the kitchen counter. Sold his belongings, drove to a beautiful mountain town, and planned the final day of his life.

“But then I stumbled upon your article about anxiety,” he says. “Reading it made me realize I wasn’t alone, and slowly, I started seeing a light at the end of the tunnel.”

I blink, eyes glued to the screen. This is why I started writing in the first place, I realize. Not for the money, not for the fame, but to make an impact. To reach out to someone who might be struggling, much like my former self, and offer them a moment of hope. And slowly, it dawns on me.

Perhaps this is what it means.

To be a writer.

I’m sitting at the living room table now, writing an article about the beauty of life, love, and holding loved ones close. But when my mom calls in the middle of a workday, I know it’s bad news. I pick up, anxiously awaiting what she has to say, and almost drop my phone in shock.

“Grandad passed away,” she says, sniffling trying to hold back tears. “He’s in Heaven now.”

Gone. Just like that. It was just a few weeks ago that I showed Grandad my writing, and he said he was proud of me. Gosh, that made me smile. To see his face beaming with pride.

“Matt, when can I expect to see a book you’ve written on the New York Times bestseller list?”

“Maybe someday, Grandad,” I replied. “Maybe someday.”

Oh, how I wish I could relive that day one more time. To see the twinkle of joy in his eyes as he talks about the beauty of life. But now, I’m trying to write a eulogy to say at his funeral, tears rolling down my face, not knowing how to condense my emotions into a few paragraphs. So, I close my laptop, put my face in my hands, and cry.

It’s funny, huh? It’s my literal job to write. Yet, I can’t find the words to describe how I feel about someone so close. So, I send a draft of my speech to Mom.

“It’s beautiful,” she replies. “Grandad would be proud.”

“I hope so mom,” I say. “More than anything.”

The following day, I visit the local church and light a candle. Look up to the roof and say I love you, Grandad. Always will. That you’re an angel watching over me, giving me courage, guidance, and inspiration to chase my dreams.

Writing has always been a part of me, I say. A way to express the things I can’t say out loud. But somewhere along the line, I lost sight of why I started in the first place. You reignited my passion. Helped me to dream again. To share my experiences, help people like Jake, and make a positive impact on the world.

And so, that evening, I sit down at my living room table, open my laptop, and do the only thing I can.

I Paid My Child $100 to Read a Book

An illustration of a woman handing money to her child, who’s also holding a book.

By Mireille Silcoff

Ms. Silcoff is a cultural critic and the author of the short story collection “Chez L’Arabe.”

This summer, I paid my 12-year-old daughter $100 to read a book. As far as mom maneuvers go, it was definitely last ditch and the size of the payout was certainly excessive. I can’t say I am proud — but I am extremely satisfied. Because the plan worked. It worked so well, I’d suggest other parents of reluctant readers open their wallets and bribe their kids to read, too.

My daughter is a whip-smart kid, definitely smarter than I was at 12. But until I resorted to bribery, she’d never read an entire chapter book for pleasure. She’d read books for school, but getting her to do that was like pulling teeth, and on her own she’d read a few graphic novels and listened to the audiobooks of the “Harry Potter” series. None of those activities became a gateway to any habit of what I might call classic deep reading — with two eyes in front of paper, and nothing else going on.

When I faced this truth a few months ago, it felt like a parenting failure. Even though we’d read many storybooks when she was younger and we live in a house stuffed with books, I’d not managed to instill one of life’s fundamental pleasures in my kid.

Just before the pandemic, a depressing federal survey revealed how much reading for pleasure had dropped among children. Almost 30 percent of 13-year-olds said they “never or hardly ever” read for fun, a substantial increase from the 8 percent who said the same roughly 35 years earlier. Given that screen time among children also increased significantly during the pandemic, it’s fair to conclude that leisure reading is an increasingly endangered pursuit among children.

For those of us who are lifelong readers — who value our night stands stacked with teetering towers of books; who hold in our minds like friends the ideas and characters we’ve collected over the years from the printed page — conveying the importance of reading shouldn’t be hard. We all understand how reading enhances the fabric of our experience. Yet I found it weirdly difficult to communicate any of this to my reading-reluctant daughter. She claimed to dislike reading. Furthermore, she didn’t care to like it. And she didn’t see any of this as a problem. Lots of her friends, she explained to me, just “weren’t into” reading. I realized that if I wanted to communicate the joy of reading to my child, I had to clarify what the joy was for myself.

Certainly, my daughter’s having landed a smartphone last year — a secondhand iPhone with a zillion parental controls and time limits baked in — is part of the problem. Before the phone, I had a child who was like a gregarious Tigger, squealing with delight at something as simple as a new dessert cooling in the fridge. Post-phone, I had a monosyllabic blanket slug who wanted only to stay in her room with the blinds down, door closed, under a duvet, palming that little rectangle as if unhanding it would make her social life disappear. If it wasn’t her friends or it wasn’t her phone, it was only one thing: “boring.”

Scribbr's citation generator is an awesome, free tool. I love that it's free. It is modestly accurate on picking up the correct source details, but I usually need to edit at least one citation detail after entering the source's link (translation: the details that the citation generator picks up is not 100% accurate). I always proof-read and revise the citation details, as needed, before using one of Scribbr's auto-generated citations. Regardless, once details are correct, Scribbr's tool is an excellent way to form correct citations and references. I will always recommend and use Scribbr (I've used it for at least three years now).

You'd be silly not to

I have been using scribbr for the last year and I recommend this website to everyone I know. As a university student this has changed the game. The integration with AI and the shortcuts to adding sources to the reference list is so helpful and efficient. Very rarely do I have to edit the reference it has generated (I still double check it is). So easy to learn AND ITS FREE

The editing was very good

The editing was very good, on time, and the process was very simple.

It is a great resource - with a few issues

It is a great resource, there are some occasional glitches in formatting the compiled data appropriately, but overall, it's a fantastic product! The small gripe I mentioned is a reminder of why I never rely on any AI-generated citation without question. Always look over the citations and manually edit any errors. It's a tool to save time and it works wonders when used correctly, but it shouldn't be a crutch or a replacement for understanding how to compose a proper citation.

This site is user-friendly

This site is user-friendly, and I generally find any reference I want. As an advanced study student, this is very important for time management.

Professionalism and prompt service

At the Jerusalem synagogue where Hersh Goldberg-Polin danced in life, grief and anger reign after his death

JERUSALEM — Three hundred and thirty-two days after Hersh Goldberg-Polin danced in the courtyard next to his Jerusalem synagogue on the holiday of Simchat Torah, more than a thousand people gathered there in grief and prayer to mourn his murder by Hamas terrorists in Gaza.

During the Sunday night vigil, the courtyard railings were lined with oversized yellow ribbons to symbolize advocacy for the hostages, Hapoel Jerusalem soccer flags — the 23-year-old’s favorite team — and posters that read, “We love you, stay strong, survive,” a mantra coined by his mother, Rachel Goldberg-Polin.

Just hours earlier, one of the posters had been hanging over the balcony of the home of Shira Ben-Sasson, a leader of Hakhel, the Goldberg-Polins’ egalitarian congregation in the Baka neighborhood of Jerusalem.

“We were sure we would take it down when he came home,” Ben-Sasson said.

The community wanted to unite while respecting the Goldberg-Polins’ desire for privacy, she said, prompting them to organize the prayer gathering.

“But it’s like a Band-Aid or giving first aid, it’s what you do in an emergency. I don’t know how we go on after this,” she said.

A covered courtyard at the Hakhel congregation was filled with mourners the day after Hersh Goldberg-Polin, whose family are prominent members, was found to have been killed in Gaza. Hundreds of other people crowded outside the gates, Sept. 1, 2024. (Deborah Danan)

She added that the community, which has a large contingent of English-speaking immigrants, was not prepared for the High Holidays, which begin in about a month. She said, “Seeing his empty seat is hard.”

For Ben-Sasson, who wore a T-shirt bearing the Talmudic dictum “There is no greater mitzvah than the redeeming of captives,” the tragedy is especially painful because, she said, it could have been avoided with a ceasefire agreement that freed hostages.

“Hersh was alive 48 hours ago. We think a deal could have saved him. There is no military solution to this,” she said.

That feeling of bereavement, often mixed with betrayal, pervaded gatherings across Israel on Sunday, as the country struggled with the news that six hostages who may have been freed in an agreement were now dead as negotiations continue to stall. Speakers at protests in Tel Aviv blamed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who himself apologized for not getting the hostages out alive but blamed Hamas for obstructing a deal. The country’s labor union, the Histadrut, has called a national strike on Monday to demand a deal.

A rare early September rain lashed parts of Israel on Sunday, leading to a widespread interpretation: God, too, was weeping.

Some at the Jerusalem gathering, including the relative of another former hostage, said Netanyahu had chosen defeating Hamas over freeing the captives.

Josef Avi Yair Engel’s grandson Ofir was released from Hamas captivity in November. He paid tribute to Hersh Goldberg-Polin, murdered in captivity, in Jerusalem, Sept. 1, 2024. (Deborah Danan)

Josef Avi Yair Engel, whose grandson Ofir, 18, was released from Hamas captivity in November during that month’s ceasefire deal, expressed shock over Hersh’s murder but said he was not surprised, given the wartime policies of Netanyahu’s government.

“We knew months ago this was going to happen. Bibi’s formula, to dismantle Hamas and return the hostages, wasn’t logical. It’s an either/or situation,” Engel said, referring to Netanyahu by his nickname. “He’s tearing the country apart. I’m afraid that in the coming months there won’t be a state at all.”

Engel said he felt a close bond with Hersh’s father Jon Polin, not only because of their joint activism in the hostage families’ tent outside the Prime Minister’s Residence, but also because of their shared identity as Jerusalemites.

“There aren’t many of us in the hostage circle,” he said. “We’re like family.”

Sarah Mann, who did not know the family personally, said the weekend’s tragedy reminded her of Oct. 7.

“This day has sparks of the seventh, which created numbness and an inability to talk. Just complete shock,” she said.

Mourners left notes at a gathering at Hersh Goldberg-Polin’s family synagogue in Jerusalem. Many of the messages used the Hebrew word for “sorry.” (Deborah Danan)

Part of the reason for that, Mann said, was Rachel, who she described as a “force of faith.” Goldberg-Polin’s mother emerged as the most prominent advocate for the hostages globally and became a symbol in her own right as she crisscrossed the world calling for her son’s freedom.

“Millions of people around the world held onto her. Once that was cut, people’s ability to hold onto faith was knocked out today. But even though this has shattered us, we need to keep holding onto God,” Mann said.

For Susi Döring Preston, the day called to mind was not Oct. 7 but Yom Kippur, and its communal solemnity.

She said she usually steers clear of similar war-related events because they are too overwhelming for her.

“Before I avoided stuff like this because I guess I still had hope. But now is the time to just give in to needing to be around people because you can’t hold your own self up any more,” she said, tears rolling down her face. “You need to feel the humanity and hang onto that.”

Like so many others, Döring Preston paid tribute to the Goldberg-Polins’ tireless activism. “They needed everyone else’s strength but we drew so much strength from them and their efforts, “she said. “You felt it could change the outcome. But war is more evil than good. I think that’s the crushing thing. You can do everything right, but the outcome is still devastating.”

Guy Gordon, with his daughter Maya, added a broken heart to the piece of tape he has worn daily to mark the number of days since the hostage crisis began, Sept. 1, 2024. (Deborah Danan)

Guy Gordon, a member of Hakhel who moved to Israel from Dublin, Ireland, in the mid-1990s, said the efforts towards ensuring Hersh’s safe return have been an anchor for the community during the war. The community knew him as the family described him in its announcement of his funeral on Tuesday, as “a child of light, love and peace” who enjoyed exploring the world and coming home to his family, including his parents and younger sisters, Leebie and Orly.

“It gave us something to hope for, and pray for and to demonstrate for,” he said. “We had no choice but to be unreasonably optimistic. Tragically it transpired that he survived until the very end.”

Gordon, like many others in the crowd, wore a piece of duct tape marked with the number of days since Oct. 7 — a gesture initiated by Goldberg-Polin’s mother. Unlike on previous days, though, his tape also featured a broken red heart beside the number.

Nadia Levene, a family friend, also reflected on the improbability of Hersh’s survival.

“He did exactly what his parents begged him to do. He was strong. He did survive. And look what happened,” Levene said.

She hailed Rachel Goldberg-Polin’s “unwavering strength and belief in God,” adding, “There were times I lost faith. I suppose I was angry with God. But she just kept inspiring us all to pray, pray, pray.”

Leah Silver of Jerusalem examined stickers showing Rachel Goldberg-Polin’s mantra for her son Hersh, who was murdered in captivity in Gaza, at a gathering after Hersh’s death, Sept. 1, 2024. (Deborah Danan)

Jerusalem resident Leah Silver rejected politicizing the hostages’ deaths.

“Everything turns political so quickly. I came here because I felt that before all the protests, we need to just mourn for a moment and to pray. And show respect for each other,” she said. “We’ve become confused about who the enemy is. It’s very sad.”

But not everyone at the gathering joined in to sing Israel’s national anthem at the closing of the prayer gathering.

“I’m sorry, I can’t sing ‘Hatikvah,'” Reza Green, a Baka resident who did not know the Goldberg-Polins personally, said. “I’m too angry. We shouldn’t be here.”
