This post is all about the best planners for entrepreneurs

Different types of planners for entrepreneurs.

The best planners for entrepreneurs can come in a few different formats. Are you a pen + paper type of person? Love having everything online in one place? Want something you can print yourself on the cheap? There’s a planner for that!

Whether you need help planning how to start a business or you’re a seasoned pro, you’ve gotta have a format that works for you.

Planner Types by Format

Format and convenience are everything when you think about your day-to-day routine with your planner. Do you hate having to grab your physical planner from another room? If so, digital might be your pick. Do you feel motivated by the feeling of pen and paper? Then you may not want to miss out on a beloved physical planner!

  • Physical planners – this is your traditional planner in paper format, typically with the pages bound together. These may come with pre-printed, pre-dated pages, or undated pages so that you fill in the dates and content yourself.
  • Digital planners – If you hate having to carry something around or dislike being unable to access your planner across devices, a digital planner is perfect for you. There are many apps that sync from your phone, to your tablet, to your laptop! This can be as simple as Google Calendar, or you can purchase curated digital planners that are essentially a traditional planner in digital format.
  • Printable planners – one type of planner you may not have thought about is a printable planner. These types of planners allow more room for your own decoration and are frequently found on Etsy. You can print the pages as many times as you like, too!

Planner Types by Layout

Many planners may be a mix of more than one of these elements, but sometimes they specialize in one layout in particular. Think about your preferences and needs when it comes to the layout and focus of your planner!

  • Daily planners – Daily planners can be as general as an overview of your daily plans, goals, and priorities, or they can get as specific as planning by the hour! Think about your preferences on those as you browse the daily planners for entrepreneurs in this post. If you’re a time blocker, you’ll want the hourly. But if that’s too intense, stick with a general daily overview!
  • Weekly planners – If you like to take things week by week and plan all your days out in advance, you’ll want to opt for a planner that has a focused weekly format. I find that these are best during years where I anticipate having a lot of appointments. No one likes a dreadful doctor’s appointment creeping up on them day-of!
  • Dedicated business planners – yes, standard daily and weekly planners may do the job, but they don’t include the more business-specific things we need to think about to stay on top of our business. As you get more serious about your business, you’ll certainly appreciate having a wide array of business templates in your planner!
  • Goal setting planners – Many generic planners have some space for jotting down your goals, but they stop there. They pay no attention to all the systems that need to be in place in order to work toward the goal! That’s why finding a planner with a detailed goal-setting focus, where you can create an action plan and stay accountable, just makes sense!

Format and layout can make or break your schedule, so choose wisely when choosing among these best planners for entrepreneurs.

Want a quick, free, one-page daily planner you can print again and again? Make sure you grab my FREE printable productive day planner below! It’s perfect to use in a pinch before you decide on the perfect planner!

Choosing the Right Planner: What to Look For

Every business owner has different needs. When choosing that perfect planner for you out of this list of planners for entrepreneurs, there’s some key features you’ll want to consider before making a decision. Think about what is visually pleasing, what is practical, and what ticks all your boxes!

Dated vs. Undated

When looking at all the planners for entrepreneurs, do you want a planner that already has all the dates filled in for you? Or do you want to be able to pick up and leave off whenever?

Sometimes life gets chaotic and we miss a week or two in our planner. If that tends to happen to you, you may be better off with an undated planner so you don’t waste pages! But if the structure of a dated planner keeps you accountable, that may be your best bet!

The Sections Included

Maybe you want your planner to offer you more than just a calendar. You might want to track expenses, keep lists, track business ideas, brainstorm projects….the list goes on!

If you want a super comprehensive planner that has it all, it may be worth it to seek out a more specialized planner than your run-of-the-mill weekly or monthly planner.

Refillable/Insertable

Some planners allow you to pop in different inserts. This is awesome not only for the customizability, but it’s also far more sustainable, long-lasting, and eco-friendly! Rather than toss out planner after planner each year, you can keep a refillable planner alive forever.

Folders and Pockets

Does the planner feature folders and pockets throughout or in the back? You might not always need these, but they can come in handy for storing business cards, notes, and documents!

Size and Portability

As much as I love a big, large-print planner…sometimes it can get bulky and annoying to carry around.

Especially when it doesn’t fit in my bag! So size and the ability to carry the planner from place to place is definitely something to think about.

If a planner is only going to make your bag that much heavier, it might get old real quick. Think about what will fit in your work bag or backpack and buy accordingly!

Layout Preference

I used to NEED a planner with a vertical, hour-by-hour layout. Now that I use Google Calendar for that function, I like to have my paper planner in horizontal format, where I can just bullet point-list my daily tasks like a to-do list.

Think about what you prefer and what other systems you have in place! If you like to use a digital calendar in conjunction with a paper planner, get a paper planner that offers something your digital calendar doesn’t.

Pro tip: If you’re juggling a ton of tasks, struggling to keep your life organized, AND trying to stay on track with your goals …don’t try to manage your schedule by yourself!

You need to make sure you’re optimizing your time in the best way possible. But what even is “the best way possible”?

Well, you don’t need to waste time figuring that out when the Motion app can literally do it for you.

small business planner near me

If you’re sick of feeling like there just aren’t enough hours in the day, Motion can fix that by:

  • Automated scheduling that plans your day for you – this app knows exactly how to schedule your daily tasks FOR YOU, in a way that’s most productive for you and your lifestyle.
  • Handling emergencies – Motion rearranges everything automatically so that urgent pop-up tasks don’t screw up your day…or your sanity!
  • Being a game-changer for ADHD – anyone with ADHD knows the agony of identifying what to prioritize. Motion takes the guesswork out of time management, so you know exactly what to do next!

Motion is the game-changer your schedule has been begging for, so why not give it a shot and lighten your load?

Did these planners for entrepreneurs help you identify the best planner for you?

Whether you’re into goal setting, have a crazy chaotic work schedule, or just want a no-frills simple planner…this list has something for every entrepreneur! From artsy to minimalistic and everything in between, these planners for entrepreneurs offer a huge set of tools to organize your year and make it the best one yet.

Hopefully, your preferences have become a little clearer after weighing all the different variations planners can offer! Because we all know how good it feels to open a fresh new planner that has exactly what we want.

Happy planning!

13 Best Planners for Entrepreneurs to Succeed in 2022

  • Entrepreneurship

Being a blogger and an entrepreneur, I appreciate how important goal setting, planning, and creativity is. That’s why I rounded up this list of the best planners for entrepreneurs in 2022!

We all realize that entrepreneurs have hectic schedules, but the lives of a professional blogger can be pretty intense, too. Particularly when you’re blogging as a business, and not just a hobby. Focus is essential, and just getting things done can be difficult if you don’t make lists that you can check, item by item. And, let’s be honest, if you do not place important to-do items on actual lists, chances are that you’ll forget about them.

Which could get you in trouble.

These days there are many digital tools available. Even so, there seems to be a trend towards using paper-based planners. Not just for the nostalgia but as an efficient tool for improved planning, goal setting , general life-organization, and creativity.

I loved reading this article – “ 4 Ways Pen and Paper Can Boost Your Work-Life Balance .” The author says that “Writing makes you more committed.” and “Jotting things down makes you happier.” Who wouldn’t want to be more committed and happier?

Generating Ideas

There are many benefits to using pen and paper as a creative tool, in addition to the apps and tools that you rely on for other things. Taking notes on paper focuses your thoughts in a way that your smart phone or computer just doesn’t.

And I think you just get better results when you write things down.

So I use notebooks a lot, not just for remembering ideas that I have, but also for developing those ideas. One idea will lead to another one, and this active brainstorming keeps on going for a while.

Being an entrepreneur, it’s vital to come up with that one idea that will set you apart. That one idea that you will bet the next few years of your life, and 150% of your energy, on. And these ideas do not always come suddenly, so you need to work them out one by one.

Have you ever heard the expression about “being one thought away from a good idea?” Well, it’s true. Sometimes, that sensational idea you have needs to be taken just a little further to become truly brilliant.

Success in business is the same thing. It is all based on great creative processes.

Well, notebooks and planners help!

Daily Planning

I love planning and feel that a project is halfway there if it has been planned and laid out properly. Paper-based notebooks and planners are essential for this, too, even though there are digital alternatives. If you have something you want to get done, sitting down with a piece of paper, and writing out your goals may help you reach them faster. And what better project to plan, than your own, fabulous life?

Want a tip? Add a few old fashioned paper-notebooks, agendas, and planners to your list of essential tools, and start using them for creative and organizational purposes. Often it is easier to reach for a notebook or planner than to switch on a tablet or a laptop.

There are notebooks in all categories, sizes, and shapes. I have a project planner that I keep at home, but also a daily planner that I carry with me. There are so many interesting, concept-driven planners that I must admit, it’s tempting to buy more than one just to try them out or to switch from one type to another each year.

Best Planners For Entrepreneurs

Here are seven fantastic planners for entrepreneurs that will improve your business and your life.

Passion Planner

Passion Planner  is a system for writing down dreams and goals, and to help you succeed in realizing them. A well thought-out concept that consists of many parts, but also a full yearly calendar with the week on two pages.

The great thing is that the focus is always on how you can implement steps that will help you reach your goals. It also delivers a weekly inspirational quote and a matching challenge. Very inspirational!

Planners for Bloggers Entrepreneurs

Dailygreatness Business Yearly (Undated)

Dailygreatness Business Planner is a visually stunning planner that is focused on business. But highly inspirational, and very comprehensive. It wants to help you in “forming excellent thinking habits while taking action on your most important priorities.”

There are weekly check-ins, challenges, inspirations, and week-to-a-view pages. And the planner has weekly, and quarterly goal planners, plus some cool features like the social media content planner, and the expansion strategy worksheet. Original content, well worth checking out. And a great detail is that the planner is undated, so you can start whenever you want!

Business Planner

Get To Work Book

The design is creative, yet discreet, and the planner offers many helpful features like project breakdown pages, reflect and goal-set pages, and 12 motivational quotes that you can detach from the planner. And there’s plenty of blank space for notes and brainstorming. A very practical and handy, no nonsense planner.

get to work book layout

Savor Daily Action Planner

A comprehensive planner that many people love. And note that this is truly a monthly planner, meaning that each book is for 30-days, although you can also get a 90-day version. This may sound like an incentive for people to buy more than needed, but if you think about it, having a whole book for each month is a wonderful idea, and you could immerse yourself in many, monthly details.

Savor Daily Action Planner

Day Designer

This is the planner I’m currently using. I love the vertical layout, the “top 3” for each day and the extra space space for your “to do” list. I actually use this space to jot down things that I think of throughout the day so that I can stay focused on whatever I am currently doing and come back to the list at a later time.

Day Designer Binder - Spotty in Black

Danielle LaPorte’s Desire Map Planner

The design of the inside of the planner itself is very clean and bright, quite appealing. And the planner has plenty of goal setting pages, to-do lists, and an original focus on “my feelings,” and more spiritual concepts like “soul prompt” and “my core desired feelings.”

Paper vs. Digital

If you’re still not sure whether a paper planner is for you, you can take a quiz here to help you decide. 🙂

And if just you’re not sure that there is a perfect planner for you, you could always consider bullet journaling. You can read more about it here .

The most popular notebooks for bullet journaling are Leuchtturm and Moleskin, like these.

Did you find the perfect planner for you?

With these examples, you should be able to find a planner you like. I encourage you to pick one up an undated one or a new one for 2021, as a planner can be a great productivity tool for your business.

There are so many planners and goal-setting tools out there, and I would love to hear any tips that you might have. What other planners should be on this list?

Also, what is your number one tip for planning, goal setting or creativity? Leave me a comment. I’d love to know. 🙂

Nice post! I use a paper planner from Rifle Paper Co. that’s super visually pleasing and lets me combine my work and blog to-do lists by week and by month. I love it! I stopped using my phone because iCal would occasionally delete appointments, making me seem like a forgetful or unreliable person, and it was so frustrating! I love the quote about being one thought away from a great idea – such a nice one for creatives!

I had not heard of Rifle Paper Co. Thanks for sharing! Which one do you use? The classic, spiral or hardcover one?

I love the cover of the Day Designer! I’m a planneraholic so I could stare at these babies all day! This year I chose a simpler planner and I actually just recently reviewed it on my site! I also have an upcoming post about why the Emily Ley Simplified Planner Didn’t Work for Me! I thought I would love it because it has some great elements and it’s gorgeous but I just couldn’t use it! Great post!

Kaitlyn – went looking for your planner review and just saw the free holiday pictures. They are gorgeous! 🙂

Thank you! I’m glad you liked them!

OMG Chantel! This is a totally awesome post! I really love notebooks and planners, so thank you you took time to put this together. Since you asked, I think http://bulletjournal.com/ could be on this list. It’s a geat tool/system. Also, If I had to pick one favorite from the ones you listed it would be difficult, because you have the best ones there. I’m now checking out #3 Get To Work Book and #4 which I didn’t know about. Cheers, Stella

Stella – thank you for your kind words. I actually did mention bullet journaling at the very end, but I probably shouldn’t have done that in the “Paper vs. Digital section”. Thanks for pointing it out since others may have missed it too. I keep thinking it seems like such an intriguing option. I might try it at some point. 🙂

My friend swears by the Passion Planner and has been using it for years, I love all these types of notebooks but sadly being on the road all the time I always feel that they are so big and bulky and take up room with all the other ‘stuff’ I need to squeeze into a carryon. But I do carry a small notebook because nothing feels better than writing it down.

Faith – did you know that you can print out Passion Planner pages? Maybe you could carry a weeks’s worth with you? http://www.passionplanner.com/downloads/

This is a great topic! I created my own planner ironically. I got a leather empty planner and bought the other things personalized and such.

xoxo Isaly Holland http://www.memoriesbyisaly.com

That’s great, Isaly. I should have mentioned that you can certainly DIY your own custom planner. ?

I love to organize my business for success! Thank you for sharing this!

Divine CEO http://www.ladiesmakemoney.com

Being organized is something that I have to work at constantly. But I’m finding that using a planner *and* Trello is a good combination for me. ?

That get to work planner is right up my alley. It has all the space that I need to write in all my restaurant photography and reviews that need to be done. Plus, its the layout that I love. Gotta go to their site noooooow!!!!

Danielle | FollowMyGut.com <3

I’m glad you found one you like! That one was new to me when I started researching for 2017 options. ?

Goal setting and planning for a weekly content always inspires me. Thank you for such a wonderful post and a planner resources. I think I should try one of above-mentioned planners. All look so gooooood. I think your post will be helpful in writing my upcoming post about goal setting.

Thanks, Arfa! Hope you find one that is perfect for you!

I LOVE a good paper planner or notebook! I agree that writing something down feels more committing and I physically crossing things off my to-do list just makes me feel more productive. Thanks for the great round up of these!

You are most welcome, Steph. Hope you find the perfect planner for you. ?

Great round up! I just purchased the Happy Planner but have heard many good things about the ones you mentioned above. If this one doesn’t work for me I may just have to check out that Passion Planner.

I’ll have to check our the Happy Planner, Damaris. Also, did you know that you can download PDF pages of the passion planner to see if you like it? ?

Thanks for the reviews! I’ll be getting a Passion Planner 🙂

Yay! I think the Passion Planner looks awesome!!

Love them all! I’m too addicted to planners haha

I know, Sarah! I want one of each!

Thanks for the info. I must use a planner to get my life in order. I make my own and incorporate my own needs so it changes every three months or so, in design, to meet my needs. And where do I get my ideas? Other planners of course! Thanks for giving us a glimpse into these.

Margaret – I know what you mean! It is very tempting to want to make my own and combine what I like best about each of these, but… I don’t need another project on my “to do” list. 🙂

Hi Chantel, thanks so much for including my quiz about using a paper or digital planner! I hope people will find it helpful. 🙂

As far as a planning tip, I find it best to review my planner not only in the morning, but in the evening as well. It helps me better understand what took place during the day, and helps me plan for tomorrow.

Thanks again, and best wishes for a wonderful 2017!

Rashelle TheOrderExpert.com

No, thank you! It’s a great resource.

Great thoughts on planning to be unstoppable! Cheers!

Thank you for the kind words. ?

I recently invested in a Ban.Do and I love it! I cannot use my calendar on my computer as I like to use a pencil to mark up my planner, so that I can cross things off. Great round up!

Love this post. I am currently using Wonderlass’ Blog + Life Planner for my blog in 2017. I got my sister a Day Designer for her job though for Christmas and I am so excited for her to get it because it has so much space and I know she will adore it.

I’ve been wanting to try the Passion Planner – I may just have to invest in one, haha. 🙂 Thank you for sharing these!

It looks great, doesn’t it?! I still can’t decide which planner I want for myself and I’m running out of time. Leaning towards an undated one, though. ?

These are some awesome planners! I am totally a paper and many pens girl 😉

I love setting pen to paper to plan myngoals and my life. Even if I don’t constant ly refer to it, the act of writing it down helps me internalize hhings.

Great list Chantel, I always carry a notebook anywhere I go; mostly because I need to jot down ideas or plans that breeze in when I’m not really ready to go for it. It has really helped me on my blogging journey. Thanks for sharing.

I love the idea of writing things down on lovely planners, but I know I’m a digital gal all the way. Good for inspiration though!

Great encouraging post. I agree that organization is half the battle.

These are great planners. They look very well laid out. It is always good to have a way that you organize yourself for maximum productivity. Keep up the great work and live unstoppable!

I don’t even know if you are working on this blog anymore…either way, this was a very informative article on the kind of planners that creatives, entrepreneurs, goal-oriented, and seekers are looking for. I neve heard of at least half of them, so I wanted to take the time to thank you for the well written and concise information provided in this piece. Helped me to make a decision (almost, as I’m teeter-tottering between two at the moment).

Great post. A good planner can make all the difference. Scheduling is a hard thing for so many, I used to just use my phone, but one glitch and I lost so much. Paper is the way to go, less hacking and technical issues for sure. I tried a personal growth Planner and loved it, I learned so much about myself and how I function best. Thanks for the post.

Five Best 2021 Small Business Planners

The five best 2021 small business planners we found to keep you focused and growing.

Small business owners and entrepreneurs have different needs than the average working professional. Our small business planner has to include more than a calendar and a to-do list. We need to literally plan our futures as well as our days. Luckily, there are many different small business planners to help us stay focused on our long-term goals and our daily tasks.

In compiling this list, we looked for several features that small business owners need in a planner:

  • Flexibility
  • Daily, Weekly, and Monthly Calendar Options
  • Room for To-Do Lists
  • Room for Journaling
  • A logical approach to planning the days, weeks, and months ahead
  • Emphasis on both short- and long-term goals

We awarded bonus points for small business planners with features that go above and beyond. These include the “Monthly Check-in” feature in the Dailygreatness planner, and custom covers and nameplates on the Erin Condren Coiled Lifeplanner.

Research Many 2021 Small Business Planners to Find the Best for You

As you’ll see, not all the planners below meet all criteria. Finding a small business planner is very much like finding a house – sometimes there are compromises. Also like finding a house, it’s a good idea to look at many different ones to ensure you feel right at home. After all, you’ll be living out of your planner for the next year or so!

One final note: the small business planners below display the regular list price. Many were discounted as of this writing, so prices can fluctuate. (We chose to use the regular list price since it’s unlikely to go above that.) Check the links for the most up-to-date pricing.

Without further ado then, our list of the five best 2021 planners for small business.

The Best Small Business Planner For Entrepreneurs in 2022

The best planner for entrepreneurs & small business owners [2022].

Running a personal or small business is hard and chaotic work! Your business is often run by just yourself or a small team of employees that handle everything – the purchasing and finances, event coordination, online sales, website design and maintenance, social media marketing, and more. A small business planner like the Busy Boss Planner can be essential to keeping yourself and your business on track.

Made just for entrepreneurs and small business owners, the spiral bound professional planner has everything you need to organize your marketing initiatives, purchasing, planning, agenda, and more.

As a business owner and blogger without a team of employees I wear a lot of hats. Everything that happens in my business flows through me – and while I love having ownership of every part of my work, it’s a lot to manage! I found early on that I was struggling to keep track of things and to organize my planning and thoughts. I love using spreadsheets and other digital resources, but I needed one central place to keep all of my planning and tracking organized so that I could later dump the data into spreadsheets without forgetting things as they happened.

To help me manage all of the details of running a business I developed the Busy Boss Business Planner, the ultimate planner for small business owners and entrepreneurs.

In this post I’m going to walk you through some of the details of the Busy Boss Planner and discuss how it can help you manage your business. With my business I have a ton of different usernames and passwords that I can never seem to remember, even with my computer’s password saving option! Therefore, I’ve also included in the business planner notebook a login and password tracking page.

Top 20 Planners for Entrepreneurs (2024)

This post may contain affiliate links meaning that, I may make commission if you purchase through my links. Learn More .

Finding the best planners for entrepreneurs has been a mission of mine for this past year. Through research, trial and error, and LOTS of shopping, I’ve compiled this list of the top 20 entrepreneur planners for 2024.

top entrepreneur planners

If you’re an entrepreneur, staying organized is key. With so much on your plate, it’s easy to start to feel overwhelmed keeping track of it all.

We have a lot to remember – from deadlines and due dates to meetings and marketing. Having one clear, concise place to keep it all is essential.

My weekly planner is my entire life. I carry it with me everywhere I go. it helps keep me on track and ensures I never miss an important event or deadline. Because of my reliance on my planner, it is absolutely critical to me that I find one that fits my busy lifestyle.

As a busy business owner, I’m sure you can relate to the struggle of finding the best entrepreneur planner. I’ve spent countless hours flipping through pages of planners in Target trying to find the perfect fit.

To help make this easier for you, I’ve created this list of the absolute best planners for entrepreneurs.

No matter your needs, lifestyle, and planner preferences, you are bound to find the perfect business planner for you here.

Let’s jump into this list of the top 20 best business planners for entrepreneurs.

5 Types of Planners for Entrepreneurs

We are so lucky that there are so many different options for entrepreneurship planners.

There are countless planner variations now all showcasing different features, styles, and layouts. This can be both helpful and overwhelming.

To help break this down a bit, I’ve categorized these planners for entrepreneurs into 5 main categories:

  • Daily Planners: These planners are super micro! They break down the day-to-day of your life as a busy entrepreneur. A lot of daily planners have hourly breakdowns of your work day, making them a great option if you have lots of appointments, meetings, or calls scheduled in your weeks.
  • Weekly Planners: Weekly planners still have space for each individual day, but often don’t offer a full-page spread just for one day. Instead, you will get a week-at-a-glace breakdown with rows or columns for each day.
  • Goal Planners: Specific goal planners are great for entrepreneurs and business owners who are goal-oriented. (One major benefit of a planner is achieving goals!) Goal planners often have extra features such as goal-setting sheets, goal trackers, habit trackers , or other goal-related planning resources.
  • Digital Planners: Not a pen-and-paper type of person? Digital planners are kept on your computer, iPad, tablet, or phone. This is really convenient for anyone who doesn’t want to carry around a physical planner or doesn’t enjoy spending time physically writing in a planner.
  • FREE Planners: Yes, there are free planners for entrepreneurs. I will be honest, oftentimes these lack some of the great features of paid planners… but they’re FREE! Who can complain about that?!

Features to Look for in Your Business Planner

As we know by now, there are many different options when it comes to planners. Each planner has different features making it special and unique.

I’ve made a list of some of the top features I consider when looking for the best planner for entrepreneurs.

I encourage you to make a list of your planner feature priorities.

What do you like in a planner? What do you not like in a planner? Is there anything that is an absolute must-have? What is a total NO-GO?

Comment below: What’s a planner feature you can’t live without?

Here are some features to note when looking for the best business planner:

  • Month divider tabs
  • Monthly overview spread
  • Goal setting
  • Important dates
  • Weekly overview spread
  • To Call/Email
  • Notes pages
  • Habit trackers
  • Goal-setting pages
  • Quotes/Inspiration/details
  • Contacts page
  • Yearly important dates page

These are some of the many features I’ve paid close attention to when picking the best planners for entrepreneurs.

Now… let’s finally jump into this list of the best business planners for entrepreneurs!

Picking the Best Planner for You

As you now know, there are tons of planners for entrepreneurs. How are we supposed to narrow it down to pick just one?!

There are a few key decisions to make when finding the perfect business planner for you. Here are some major factors to take into consideration.

Physical or Digital?

Before anything else, you’re going to want to decide if you want a physical business planner or a digital planner.

This is the most fundamental element of your planner picking. Decide whether you want a pen-and-paper physical planner or a stylus-and-iPad digital planner.

RELATED POST: Top Planner Accessories + Essentials

Weekly or Daily?

Do you want to look at your plan from a week-at-a-glance perspective?

Or do you prefer getting more micro with it and breaking down each individual day?

Deciding between a weekly or daily planner is highly personal and depends on your preferences, lifestyle, needs, and planning style.

Dated or Undated?

Do you like the structure of a dated planner already filled in for you?

Or do you prefer the flexibility of writing in the dates by yourself?

Again, an entirely personal preference. You just have to choose what works best for you!

(Tip: consider — do you often miss weeks at a time in your planner? If so, undated may prevent waste! However, if you are a committed daily planner, dated may be best!)

Spiral or Bound?

Do you like a spiral-bound planner or a traditionally bound planner (like a composition notebook)?

This makes a big difference in the functionality of your planner. We all have our own preferences!

Layout plays a key role not only in the aesthetics of your planner but in the functionality too!

You absolutely have to have a planner layout that jives with your organization and planning strategy.

RELATED POST: 100 Useful Things to Track in Your Planner

Do you like a vertical layout? Or are you a horizontal planner person?

Do you like to-do checklists or hour-by-hour breakdowns?

Do you need monthly tabs or do you prefer to bookmark where you are at?

These are all layout options to consider when picking the best planner for you.

Sections & Features

A good planner is more than simply a calendar. The additional sections and features in a planner are important.

Goal setting, budget planning, habit tracking, meal planning, gratitude journaling, etc. are all examples of additional sections you may want in your planner.

Get clear about the sections that really matter to you and find a planner that offers that.

Refillable Add-On Inserts

Some planners (most famously The Happy Planner ) have the option for snap-in inserts for customizing your planner’s features.

This is awesome for hand-picking exactly what you’d like in your planner. Is this an important feature for you?

If you are a busy on-the-go entrepreneur, you may need a planner that is a bit smaller and more portable.

However, if you work from home, you may want a larger planner for your WFH desk. Decide what size you need your planner to be in order for it to best suit your lifestyle.

Add-Ons & Extras

Do you need an interior pocket? Planner stickers? A bookmark? All of these are planner extras that you should seek out when shopping for your perfect planner.

This post was all about the best planners for entrepreneurs.

Whether you’re a blogger, small business owner, corporate entrepreneur, or anything in between, these 20 planners for entrepreneurs will have incredibly helpful features for you!

What Is a Small Business Plan Template?

A small business plan template is a roadmap for defining your business objectives and detailing the operational, financial, and marketing resources required for success. Use a small business plan template to strategize growth, forecast financial needs, and promote investment.

A small business plan template organizes and outlines the content needed to achieve goals for growth and profit, including marketing and sales tactics. As opposed to starting from scratch, using a template makes it easy to organize the information and customize the plan to meet your needs.

A small business plan template includes standard business plan sections, as well as the following sections:

  • Executive Summary: Summarize the key points in your small business plan in two pages or less to hold your reader's attention and promote buy-in. Write this section last to capitalize on your understanding of the small business plan.
  • Company Overview: Describe the nature of your small business, the industry landscape and trends, demographics, and economic and governmental influences. List your location, product or service, and goals to show what makes your small business unique.
  • Problem and Solution: Identify and explain the problem your product or service will solve and its costs. Propose and describe your solution and its benefits. Conclude this section with a summary of the problem and solution.
  • Target Market: Identify your small business's target market by researching your product and service to determine the most likely demographic. Explain your target market's motivations for buying your product or service.
  • Competition: Note the other competitor product or service offerings, pricing, and company revenues to understand how to outperform your competitors. Detail your small business's competitive advantages, based on research.
  • Product or Service Offerings: Describe your product or service, how it benefits your target market, and what makes it unique. Highlight how your product or service will outsell competitors.
  • Marketing: Detail your marketing plan with objectives and strategy, including goals, costs, and an action plan. A successful marketing plan reduces costs and boosts your product or service sales.
  • Timeline and Metrics: Break down your small business plan into smaller activities. Describe these activities (and the performance metrics you intend to use to track them) and list a completion date for each.
  • Financial Forecasts: Explain how your organization uses past performance and market research to inform your business's economic forecasts. Estimate growth and profits based on your informed assumptions.
  • Financing: List your funding sources and how you intend to use the funds to keep your company on track as it grows. Smart financing at the planning stage prepares your organization for unexpected challenges and helps to mitigate risk.

A small business plan template enables you to complete your business plan quickly and comprehensively, so you can achieve your goals and turn your product or service idea into a profitable reality.

Near the village of Shartash, which was founded in 1672 by members of the Russian sect of Old Believers, an ironworks was established in 1721 and a fortress in 1722. In 1723 the new settlement was named Yekaterinburg in honor of Catherine I , the wife of Peter I the Great . The town grew as the administrative center for all the ironworks of the Urals region, and its importance increased after 1783, when the Great Siberian Highway was built through it. After 1878 the Trans-Siberian Railroad linked the city with Siberia. After the Russian Revolution of 1917 (October), Yekaterinburg achieved notoriety as the scene of the execution of the last tsar , Nicholas II , and his family in July 1918. In 1924 it was renamed Sverdlovsk in honor of the Bolshevik leader Yakov M. Sverdlov, but the city reverted to its original name in 1991.

Modern Yekaterinburg is one of the major industrial centers of Russia, especially for heavy engineering. The Uralmash produces heavy machinery and is the city’s largest enterprise; it once employed some 50,000 workers, though it now has a small fraction of that number. Engineering products manufactured in the city include metallurgical and chemical machinery, turbines, diesels, and ball bearings . During the Soviet period the city was a major center of biological and chemical warfare research and development . There is a range of light industries, including a traditional one of gem cutting. Food processing is also important. The city, laid out on a regular gridiron pattern, sprawls across the valley of the Iset—there dammed to form a series of small lakes—and the low surrounding hills.

Yekaterinburg is an important railway junction, with lines radiating from it to all parts of the Urals and the rest of Russia. The city is the leading cultural center of the Urals and has numerous institutions of higher education , including the Urals A.M. Gorky State University (founded 1920), a conservatory, and polytechnic, mining, forestry, agricultural, law, medical, and teacher-training institutes. The Urals branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and many scientific-research establishments are also located there. Boris Yeltsin , the first democratically elected president of Russia, was educated and spent much of his political career in the city. Pop. (2005 est.) 1,304,251.

Some people venture into entrepreneurship with a clear vision: They know what industry they want to conquer and the path they’re going to take to get there. However, for many new entrepreneurs, it can be difficult to figure out how to start a business — plus, determine exactly what type of business is the best choice to invest in.

To help you launch your journey, we’ve compiled a list of the most profitable businesses, considering factors such as industry growth and competitiveness, startup costs and barriers to entry, as well as profitability potential.

Most profitable small businesses

With a solid business plan, hard work and determination, any strong business idea may become successful and profitable.

Businesses in high-growth industries with lower startup costs , however, may have greater profitability potential. With the rise of technology, for instance, you’ll probably have more success starting a virtual assistant business than opening a grocery store.

Although some of the most profitable businesses are based online, others involve in-person services, and some are a great fit if you're an entrepreneur on the go. Here’s our list of the most profitable small businesses:

1. Food trucks

The food truck movement has been experiencing consistent growth over the past five years — and it’s expected to continue — with the market projected to grow to $6.87 billion by 2029, according to a 2023 report by Mordor Intelligence [0] Mordor Intelligence . Food Truck Market Size & Share Analysis . Accessed Feb 26, 2024. View all sources . You can start a food truck business for less than a third of what it costs to open a brick-and-mortar restaurant; plus, you have geographic versatility, the potential for high revenue returns and the flexibility to create a custom menu that’s all your own.

Keep in mind that bigger, trendier cities like San Francisco, Boston and Washington, D.C., already have a pretty saturated food truck market (as well as tougher regulations to get started) — so this might be a more successful business in a smaller heartland metropolis.

Food trucks have their own special set of ordinances, business licenses and safety compliance standards. They also require food business insurance , so you’ll want to contact your local health department to find out what will be required.

2. Car wash services

The rising prices and pandemic-induced shortage of new vehicles are causing car owners to keep their cars longer. And as drivers keep their cars longer, businesses like car washes that help people maintain the value of their auto investment are expected to keep rising as well.

In fact, the car wash market is projected to increase from $15.86 billion in 2023 to $23.79 billion by 2030 [0] Grand View Research . U.S. Car Wash Services Market Size, Share & Trends Analysis Report By Type . Accessed Feb 26, 2024. View all sources . And according to a 2023 study from the International Carwash Association, 96% of U.S. car owners and lessees washed their vehicle at least once in the previous year— and 89% did so at a professional car wash [0] International Carwash Association . 6 Insights into Why Car Washing Is at an All-Time High . Accessed Feb 26, 2024. View all sources .

You might make a car wash business even more profitable by turning it into a mobile service. Customers may pay more for a car wash that comes to them, especially if they have a luxury car and prefer a more personalized service. And as a mobile car wash and auto detailing service, you’d avoid the overhead and startup costs of having a physical location.

3. Auto repair

The average age of cars and light trucks in the U.S. rose to 12.5 years in 2023, increasing from 9.7 years a decade ago, according to S&P Global Mobility [0] S&P Global Mobility . Average Age of Light Vehicles in the US Hits Record High 12.5 years, according to S&P Global Mobility . Accessed Feb 26, 2024. View all sources . People are keeping their cars longer than ever, suggesting there’s significant opportunity in the maintenance and repair business.

Additionally, car owners are more likely to visit a small business for repairs. According to the Auto Care Association, more than 70% of repair business is captured by independent repair facilities compared with dealerships or manufacturer-authorized repair facilities [0] Auto Care Association . Auto Care Association Applauds Advancement of REPAIR Act . Accessed Feb 26, 2024. View all sources .

If you’re skilled as a mechanic, you might consider an auto repair service as one of the most profitable business ideas. You can offer oil changes, fluid refills, battery swaps, headlight repair and more. And if you’re looking to save on overhead costs, you might make it a mobile service and travel to your customers, performing repairs in their driveway or office parking lot.

4. Personal trainers

Employment of fitness trainers and instructors is projected to grow 14% from 2022 to 2032, much faster than the average for all occupations, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics [0] U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics . Occupational Outlook Handbook, Fitness Trainers and Instructors . Accessed Feb 26, 2024. View all sources . But turning your love of fitness into a career doesn’t have to mean working for a big corporate gym — nor do you need the overhead of having your own location to train clients.

Throw a few weights, bands and yoga mats into the trunk of your car, and take your fitness show on the road.

You can become a personal trainer by offering one-on-one sessions in your clients’ homes or advertising group classes at a local park or community center. Making fitness more available to your clients might just be the ticket to helping both of you achieve your goals.

5. Newborn and post-pregnancy services

Although millennials and Generation Z are deferring parenthood for longer than previous generations, many do eventually want to have kids.

And with both generations considering parenthood, the need for child-oriented businesses is growing, starting with post-pregnancy and newborn-related services. As a result, a 2024 Market Research Future report expects the global maternity care market to reach $106.6 billion by 2032 (up from $62.5 billion in 2023) [0] Market Research Future . Maternity & Personal Care Market Research Report . Accessed Feb 26, 2024. View all sources .

Demand for doulas and lactation consultants, in particular, has risen among new mothers, and both business options have relatively low overhead requirements beyond education and certification.

6. Enrichment activities for children

Shrinking budgets for education mean that both traditional academics and enrichment subjects like music, art and athletics often take a significant hit.

A successful business to start might be one that teaches enrichment activities to children. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, kids are more involved in extracurricular activities today than they were 20 years ago [0] U.S. Census Bureau . Children Continue to be More Involved in Some Extracurricular Activities . Accessed Feb 26, 2024. View all sources . And some research indicates that approximately half of American parents spend more than $1,000 annually on their children’s activities [0] GoBankingRates . How To Afford $1,000 Worth of Kids Activities Per Year . Accessed Feb 26, 2024. View all sources .

You could launch a gymnastics center or music school, become a swimming instructor or kids’ yoga teacher, or focus on some other child-centered activity. If you have a skill that could be easily taught to young students, you might already have a profitable business in the making.

7. Mobile apps and entertainment for children

If your interests are in development and engineering, you might consider gearing your technology toward the youngest users. Research shows that demand for tablets, apps and mobile entertainment for children is on the rise — especially if those products are education-focused [0] Excellent Web World . Is The App Development Market For Kids Getting Bigger? . Accessed Feb 26, 2024. View all sources .

Do you have an idea for an educational app for children or parents? If so, now may be the time to move forward on your bright idea for the next generation and make this potentially profitable business a reality.

8. Shared accessories and attire

Sites like Rent the Runway and Gwynnie Bee have banked on the idea of the sharing economy — where we want and need to own less stuff, so instead, we share resources.

These companies offer borrowed or rented clothing and accessories at a fraction of their purchase prices, and because the same piece of inventory generates revenue multiple times, the profitability of these ventures can be significant. According to a 2023 study by the reselling platform ThredUp, the secondhand-clothing market is projected to nearly double by 2027 [0] ThredUp . thredUP’s 11th Annual Resale Report Reveals Consumers Continue to Embrace Secondhand Amid Economic Uncertainty . Accessed Feb 26, 2024. View all sources .

Do you have an eye for fashion and a sense of style not currently offered by other rental services? Maybe you’re ready to be the next big thing.

Even if you’re not prepared to launch a multimillion-dollar fashion startup, you can just as easily profit from shared fashion at the local level. Gather some favorite accessories or clothing picks and host a borrowing party — where customers can rent or purchase items from your closet — for high school students before the next formal dance.

If you’re in a college town, Greek life formals are another great opportunity to profit from shared economy fashion. And because you’re taking shipping costs out of the equation, you have the potential to be even more profitable.

9. Shared home improvement equipment

How to start a profitable business

These ideas for profitable businesses span a variety of industries and involve varying time commitments and startup costs. Before you can earn any profit, however, you’ve got to get your business off the ground.

Here are three steps to help you get started:

1. Do your research

Whether you choose one of the ideas here or come up with something on your own, do your research before committing to any concept. You'll want to perform idea validation, a process that involves market and competitor research, as well as a financial feasibility analysis to help test your business idea and determine whether you want to move forward with your business proposal.

2. Get organized and make it official

Once you’ve chosen a strong business idea, you’re ready to create a thorough business plan . Your business plan will outline your company’s goals — and how you’ll achieve them — as well as provide a roadmap for you (and potential investors) to follow for the next three to five years.

After you’ve written your business plan, you can take the necessary steps to make your small business official. You’ll choose a business structure, apply for an employer identification number , register your “Doing Business As” name (if necessary) and get the business licenses and registrations you need to open your doors.

3. Find the right financing

It can be difficult for startups to qualify for some traditional business loans, as they often require multiple years of business history for approval. Instead, new business owners might consider startup funding options, such as microloans, grants, crowdfunding, or asking friends or family for an investment.

Business credit cards are also an option for short-term financing, especially for everyday business purchases. With a business credit card , you can earn perks and rewards on your spending, as well as start building a business credit history.

What makes a good small business idea?

Not all small business ideas are made equal: Some require more effort and funding than others, while some can be launched with few resources — or resources you already have. As a potential small business owner, you’ll want to save as much money as possible on training, rent, supplies, and other necessities.

Let’s go over what makes a good business idea:

  • Requires little to no training . A good small business idea will ideally leverage your existing field of expertise and require little to no training. That will not only shorten your time-to-launch, but also lessen your expenses, since training courses can cost a significant amount of money. Plus, you’ll be more confident offering services that you feel prepared to deliver.
  • Requires low setup costs. Your business should be cheap to start. Maybe you only need to purchase a website domain or buy a desk for your garage.
  • Requires little hands-on inventory or supply management . A great business idea needs few supplies and little inventory management. If you want to sell physical goods, you can either try drop-shipping and manually make goods in small batches.
  • Is based online . The best small business ideas are based online and can be carried out from your personal computer. This will automatically lower your commuting costs and give you greater flexibility over your personal and work life.
  • Can sustainably be managed by few people . As a small business owner, you won’t have the funds to hire other people to help you run your business — at least not at first. A good business idea should give you the ability to run your business on your own.

Airbnb Co-founder, Brian Chesky, said, “If we tried to think of a good idea, we wouldn’t have been able to think of a good idea. You just have to find the solution for a problem in your own life.”

If you’re like Brian and you’ve already thought about a solution for a problem you encounter in your life — or you’re on the path to doing so — then starting a small business may be in your future. It may also be for you if you dream of clocking out of your nine-to-five job for the last time and becoming your own boss.

Below, we include the best ideas for you to start your small business — with resources and examples to help you get started.

8. Life/Career Coach

If you have experience navigating career, personal, and social transitions successfully, put it to good use as a life or career coach. Many of us are looking for guidance in our careers — and finding someone with the time to mentor us can be tough.

Life/career coaches don’t come cheap, but they are able to offer clients the intense and hands-on training and advice they need to make serious moves in their personal and professional lives. After all, everyone needs some uplifting advice from time to time.

To start your life/career coaching business with confidence, you can look for a certification program (like the Life Coach School’s or Diane Hudson’s ), then apply your skills as you acquire new clients.

A resume writing business is economical, has few overhead costs, and has few educational requirements. We still recommend having an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree and a few resume samples on hand. If you still feel that you need to brush up on your resume writing skills, you can take a course like Coursera’s or LinkedIn Learning’s .

Once you’ve gotten resume writing down, you can expand your business to include cover letter writing and even offer career coaching services in conjunction with these services.

10. Freelance Writer

If you have writing skills , there’s someone out there willing to pay you for them. Write blog posts, magazine articles, and website copy galore — just make sure you have a body of work built up to share with potential clients. Even if you create a few sample pieces to have on hand, they’ll help exhibit your work and attract new business.

To become a freelance writer, it’s essential to choose a specialty. For instance, you might choose to only write for publications in the healthcare industry (maybe because you were previously a healthcare worker) or focus on lifestyle publications. Whatever the case, specializing will help you find your niche market and gain confidence as a new freelancer writer.

There are no educational requirements for freelance writing, but you do need strong writing skills. It also helps to enjoy writing. While certification may be beneficial, getting practice and writing every day is more important. Try these writing prompts to start.

11. Landscaper

Mowing, tree-trimming, and seasonal decor are all neighborhood needs. If you have or can acquire the equipment, a landscaping business can be a lucrative affair. It’s also a great choice if you enjoy doing it for your own home and have a good eye for landscape design.

The good news is that you can start small. For instance, you could offer your neighbors seasonal planting services and start with a few perennial plants, or simply offer mulching services.

To grow your landscaping business, you should consider taking some formal training. The following organizations offer courses:

  • New York Botanical Gardens

After completing a course and getting enough experience, you can apply for a certificate from a landscaping organization. While a certificate isn’t necessary to work in the field, it can build your credentials and help you make industry connections to take your landscaping business to the next level. The Association of Professional Landscape Designers offers one potential certificate you could pursue.

Some states require licensure, especially if you’ll be using pesticides and fertilizers. Be sure to review the requirements for your state.

Learn some of the basics now with this video on landscape design from Lowe’s:

12. Videographer

Video production requires you to have invested in the equipment up front, which can be quite expensive. But that’s also what makes your services so valuable. Make sure you have a reel of your work to share or create a website with several selections of your work available for interested viewers.

There are no educational or licensure requirements for starting a video production business. As with writing and other creative arts, though, it pays to specialize. Real estate videos differ radically from wedding videos, and wedding videos differ radically from in-studio interviews and testimonials. By specializing, you target a highly specific customer who’ll benefit the most from your services, and you can also skill-up more effectively in one shooting style.

While you can find general classes on videography, you should consider taking a class in the type of videography you’d like to do. For instance, you could take The Complete Wedding Videography Course .

13. Photographer

Start by conducting photo shoots for your family and friends. As you build a body of work, ask for referrals and reviews. Photography businesses often grow by word of mouth, so create a Facebook page where you can tag recent clients. Photos where you tag those clients will show up in their friends’ newsfeeds, where they can view your work. You can also ask them to leave reviews on your Facebook business page.

Like with a video production small business, you’ll want to specialize. Will you do product shoots or portraits? How about wedding or fashion photo shoots? Once you specialize, you’ll be able to create a body of work that most accurately represents your strengths.

There are no educational or licensure requirements for starting a small photography business. Still, we recommend investing in a few photography courses, especially if you haven’t used your camera in a while. Some courses you might start with include:

  • Cornell’s Digital Photography Certificate Program
  • New York Institute of Photography’s Course

From there, seek courses that help you build skills in your chosen specialty.

14. Bed and Breakfast Owner

Some consulting industries are more competitive than others, so be sure to complete your research before starting a small consulting business. One way to find out how competitive a consulting niche is by doing keyword search . If your target niche is highly searched or is already dominated by big companies, you may have a harder time breaking in. You can use keyword research tools to uncover keyword volume and local demand.

If there’s room for you to enter the market, the next step is to land your first clients. Be sure to participate in local networking events covering your niche and reach out to potential prospects through cold calling and emailing. Investing in dedicated sales software can also help measure and improve your emailing strategy, as well as keep track of worthwhile leads.

12. Event Planner

An event planning business is an excellent choice if you have great organizational and interpersonal skills, and it’s relatively cheap to start. You might choose to specialize in a specific type of event — like weddings or company meetings — or set yourself up as an event planner of all trades.

The good news is that event planners are always in demand. It’s not an easily automated job, so this small business idea is set to thrive regardless of the digital landscape. To start, you’ll want to look for a platform that will easily allow you to advertise your availability, such as event planner directories like Eventective and WeddingWire .

If you’re highly organized, detail-oriented, and have experience planning large events, it might be time for others to benefit from your skills.

13. Personal Assistant

Personal assistants help business owners and executives take care of administrative tasks. To launch a freelance personal assistant business, you should leverage networking opportunities on LinkedIn and attend small business events at local chambers of commerce. Most local business owners might not even know they need a personal assistant until you market your services to them.

If you’re an organized, highly-detailed person, the life of a personal assistant might be for you. Don’t want to be tied to one office or person all day, every day? Consider becoming a virtual assistant, which allows you a more flexible work environment.

To become an assistant, choose a niche — will you be helping women business owners specifically? Do you have a specific field of expertise, like bookkeeping? A website can also go a long way, and be sure to print business cards for you to hand out during networking events.

14. Consignment Shop Owner

If you have an eye for style but don’t want to invest in the inventory of a brand-new boutique, consider starting a consignment shop. It will allow you to curate a collection of clothing that matches your goals and aesthetic without the overhead of a boutique selling entirely new garments.

The beauty of a small consignment business is that you can now start one online. You can sign up on a platform such as Poshmark , Depop , and even Etsy , then easily start selling your own used fashion from home.

Once you’ve defined your niche — such as vintage clothing, unique locally made art, or colorful shoes — you can begin sourcing new products from your local stores and thrift shops.

15. Caterer

If the personal chef gig is too restrictive for your schedule, consider catering instead. Pick your projects, work on fewer but larger events, and hone in on your time management skills.

Becoming a caterer is a natural step for those who are used to cooking for large events — for instance, you may have already catered your friend’s wedding or brought a 20-person meal to a potluck (that counts, too!).

It’s essential that you have enough temperature-regulated storage for the meals prior to each event, and that you arrange for reliable, temperature-controlled transportation to and from your home kitchen. Alternatively, you can lower your costs by inviting customers to pick up their order at your home.

16. Gym Owner

Kickboxing gyms, yoga studios, CrossFit, oh my! Turn your passion for fitness into a community for others by creating your own gym — start one from the ground up, become an affiliate, or open a franchise location.

Available franchise opportunities include Anytime Fitness, Orangetheory Fitness, Pure Barre, Planet Fitness, Crunch Fitness, and more. Be prepared to take out a loan to finance your franchise — most agreements start with fees upward of $20,000. But the payoff can be tremendous due to brand recognition. You’ll have no trouble recruiting new members as long as you use local marketing strategies .

Alternatively, you can create a local studio, but ideally, it should be for a specific activity instead of general fitness. Yoga, pilates, bootcamp-style gyms, and martial arts perform well as independent fitness studios.

17. Boutique Agency Owner

What’s your specialty? Whether it’s marketing, social media, or PR, it might be time to start your own agency. Many other small businesses need this type of help but don’t have the resources or volume to necessitate a full-time position.

To start an agency, you would ideally have worked in your specialty for a number of years. You should also be prepared to interface directly with clients, fulfill their requirements, and temper their expectations (if they want results in an unreasonably short amount of time).

Consider building a small team and learn from other entrepreneurs who’ve successfully started their own agencies, like Duane Brown of Take Some Risk .

18. Coffee Shop Owner

Turn your caffeine addiction into something a little more lucrative. Opening a franchise or buying an existing shop are lower-risk entry points to the coffee game, but they usually require a little more cash upfront. Starting a shop from scratch requires more planning and work — but it also maximizes your earning potential in the future.

A coffee shop is an excellent fit if you already have a full-time remote job and wish to supplement your income with a small business. You can manage the coffee shop as you work at one of the tables, but be sure to have the budget to hire an experienced barista who can pick up the slack.

If you would like to open a coffee shop and run it full-time on your own, you’ll need to undertake barista training, understand worldwide coffee sources, and have excellent customer service skills.

19. Moving Company

A truck, moving equipment, manpower, and the correct permits and insurance are the building blocks of starting your own moving company . Before you buy your first fleet of trucks, however, start small with a moving van and keep your costs low.

Still sound like too much of an initial investment? Consider offering packing services only, which have a much lower financial barrier to entry. You can partner with moving companies and offer to do their packing, or have them refer clients to you.

You could even take a niche approach to the industry as Astro International has by offering international moving services.

2. Vending Machine Owner

Since 2015, the growth rate for vending machine businesses has increased 1.4%. Even as social distancing restrictions are still in place, this business can still be lucrative if you choose the right locations. High-traffic is key — places like hospitals, schools, and community centers are smart places to start placing your machines to generate enough revenue to cover cost and turn a profit.

3. Social Media Manager

Do you have a knack for social media? As a social media manager, you can use your skills to manage the social media accounts for companies and even individual people. Influencer marketing has become more common and many influencers rely on marketing agencies or employees to help them run their social channels.

Online Business Ideas

If you want a business idea that you can run entirely online, check out the ones below. These ideas are ideal for those looking for a passive income stream. In other words, you shouldn’t need to do too much manual work to launch these businesses from your home or preferred business location.

1. Become an online reseller.

To become an online reseller, all you need is some business savvy and some funds to invest in product stock from manufacturers — or, of course, the willingness to sell your own used items. Generally, this is a low-touch but high-performance way of creating a passive income online business.

Online resellers usually use a platform, such as Facebook Marketplace or Amazon Sellers, to sell either their own or manufacturers’ stock. The benefit of using Facebook Marketplace is that you can begin today with your own Facebook account, and simply list items that you already own.

Interested buyers typically drive directly to your home for pick-up — but if you’re not interested in human interaction, you can leave it outside and have the buyer pay via an online platform.

Blogging is one of the most accessible small businesses to start, and there are countless niches to choose from. That said, because there are many blogs online, you’ll need to learn blog SEO and keyword research to ensure your audience finds you. That way, you actually make money out of your blogging efforts.

The great news is that a small blogging business has a ridiculously low overhead. All you need is a custom domain and your time for writing blog posts. Although finding the right topic ideas and outlining your posts may seem challenging at first, especially if you’re new to writing, you can let a blog ideas generator do most of the grunt work for you.

These tools leverage Artificial Intelligence to help you brainstorm ideas and set up your content structure. That way, you can kickstart your creative juices and begin writing about what you love right away.

5. Home-Baked Goods Seller

Warehouse-made, store-bought chocolate chip cookies will never compare to a batch made with love in someone’s home. Simple desserts can be easily baked and packaged to sell at local events or around your neighborhood. Use custom labels and watch the word spread about your goods!

You can begin a baked goods business easily by opening a Facebook and Instagram profile. Facebook and Instagram are both excellent platforms to market your goods, show pictures of your previous baked products, and even showcase happy clients.

Build a loyal following slowly, and save on costs by asking clients to drive to your home to pick up their order. Choosing a niche can be helpful here, or baking in a specific style that can’t be found at grocery store bakeries. The overhead can be especially low if you already have most essential baking supplies.

6. Ecommerce Store Owner

Do you create, collect, or curate anything special? Consider starting an ecommerce store and turning your hobby into a full-time job. Whether you need somewhere to sell all that pottery you’ve been making, or an excuse to search for the sports memorabilia you love tracking down, an ecommerce store can make it financially viable for you to pursue your passion.

hbspt.cta._relativeUrls=true;hbspt.cta.load(53, '5ec543ea-d1bb-42de-a97d-4ab1f00cc69b', {"useNewLoader":"true","region":"na1"});

Starting an ecommerce store is simple and easy. You can set up a shop using an ecommerce website builder , all of which start at a minimal monthly subscription (some even start at free). Be sure to take good photos of your products and write descriptive product pages .

If you don’t have inventory, you can always own an ecommerce store by using dropshipping . Instead of creating and shipping your products yourself, you’ll instead partner with a dropshipping website and have them mail out the orders directly to your client.

7. House Cleaner

With a low barrier to entry, house cleaning can be a great way to start doing what you love — soon. Consider advertising to homes in your neighborhood and get more bang for your buck by earning a few small businesses as clients as well. They’ll usually bring in a higher paycheck for a similar amount of work.

To become a house cleaner, you should be prepared to invest in cleaning supplies and accessories, or be willing to use your own. If you plan to serve small businesses, you should buy industrial janitorial supplies so you can get work done more effectively.

Need some inspiration? This small business cleaning service grew virtually overnight on Instagram after their content went viral during the pandemic.

4. create a business plan..

No business plan? No business. Particularly if your small business idea requires investors, you'll need to draft up a business plan to provide an overview of your market positioning, your financial projections, and your unique competitive advantages. 6. Create a business bank account.

Once you have a legally formed business and have been issued an Employer Identification Number (EIN), open a bank account specifically for your business. Having a business bank account is essential for keeping your personal and business finances separate which can help you gain an accurate picture of your business’s cash flow and financial health.

Additionally, keeping your personal and business finances separate makes bookkeeping and tax preparation easier.

Many banks offer business checking and savings accounts. Business checking accounts typically do not have a limit on the number of transactions that can take place, and issue a debit card that can be used for making business purchases. However, these checking accounts do not accrue interest.

Business savings accounts typically earn interest over time but have a limited number of transactions that can occur each month. When you’re just starting out, look for a business bank account that does not have a minimum balance requirement so you are not penalized for having low funds as you work to build your business.

7. Determine if your business idea works well from home.

Ask yourself whether your business idea will work well from home. Some businesses simply aren’t suited to be based from home. If you want to run a dog boarding center but live in an apartment without a backyard, you might want to consider a dog walking business instead.

8. Set up an office.

If your business idea is well-suited for being run from home, it’s still important you have a designated workspace. While a home office might not be possible, consider setting aside a corner in your living room or putting a desk in your bedroom for a space that inspires you and creates the conditions for success.

Need a more professional space? If you conduct client-facing work requiring you to be on video calls, no one wants to see your rumpled sheets in the background. Check out local coworking spaces for memberships that earn you access to conference rooms, desk space, and more.

9. Get to work!

You’ve put in the hard work, but I’ve got bad news — it’s only going to get harder. But most entrepreneurs will agree that the payoff of being your own boss, making your own hours, and working on projects that you’re passionate about will pay dividends for the rest of your life.

What are the types of small businesses?

The types of small business structures are sole proprietorships, partnerships, limited liability companies (LLCs), and corporations.

  • Sole Proprietorship — The simplest type of business structure is a sole proprietorship, which is also the easiest to start. As a sole proprietor, you are personally responsible for the business's liabilities and profits, and you have complete control over your business. If you are a solopreneur, you are automatically considered a sole proprietor.
  • Partnership — A partnership is a business model involving two or more individuals who agree to share the business‘s profits and liabilities. Each partner contributes to the business and shares the risks and rewards. It’s essential to have a partnership agreement that defines each partner's roles and responsibilities to ensure clarity and prevent potential misunderstandings.
  • Limited Liability Company (LLC) — An LLC, or limited liability company, is a common option for small businesses because it protects its owners by separating personal assets from the company's liabilities. To form an LLC, the business owner must file the required paperwork with the state.
  • Corporation — A corporation is an independent legal entity distinct from its owners. It provides limited liability protection to its shareholders, who are not held personally accountable for the company's debts. Corporations have formal requirements and often raise capital by issuing stocks or shares.

Which business type is best?

The best business type is a limited liability company (LLC). Operating as an LLC means that your personal assets are separate from your business assets. If your business goes bankrupt, your personal holdings won’t be affected. That said, it’s also one of the costlier types, requiring a fee paid to the state.

The easiest business type to start is a sole proprietorship. The main downside is that there’s no differentiation between you and your business.

It's crucial to seek advice from legal or accounting professionals to determine the best business structure based on your unique needs and objectives. Each structure has advantages, legal requirements, tax implications, and flexibility considerations.

How do I create a business idea?

To create a business idea, determine your skill set, work preferences, startup budget, and available resources. It’s important to strike the right balance between what you can feasibly offer and what you can feasibly afford in the short and long term.

We recommend starting with your skill set so that you can easily determine the niche in which you can effectively compete. For instance, if you have ample experience as a writer, you might consider starting a freelance writing business. But if you know you’d prefer to work with clients face-to-face, you might choose to start a ghostwriting business instead. That’s why it’s so important to take your work preferences into account, as well.

After that, take a look at your budget and determine the type of business you can start based on the resources at your disposal. For instance, you might not be able to afford a physical office or location, so a location-based business will likely not be a good fit. In that case, starting an online business is your best option.

What resources or tools can I use to refine and validate my business ideas during the brainstorming process?

Online market research tools like Google Trends, Keyword Planner, and SEMrush can provide insights into market demand, competition, and keyword trends related to your business niche. Industry reports and market analyses from reputable sources such as IBISWorld, Gartner, Statista, and industry-specific publications can offer valuable data and trends to inform your decision-making. Ensure you know the industry risk before embarking on your small business venture.

→ Download Now: Market Research Kit [Free Download]

Additionally, joining entrepreneurial communities, forums, and social media groups can provide opportunities to seek feedback, network with like-minded people, and gain insights from experienced entrepreneurs. Finally, consider conducting surveys or interviews with potential customers to gather feedback and validate your business concept before investing significant time and resources.

What are some of the most successful small businesses?

Every small business has the potential to be successful and profitable, provided it’s backed by a strong product-market fit and a robust business plan . These two elements are essential. Maybe postnatal services are one of the most successful small businesses to launch, but if you live in an area with declining population or a large elderly population, then that small business idea won’t yield a high return on investment.

Think carefully about the market where you’re launching your business, and you’ll be more than likely to see lasting success.

The Best Planners for Creatives & Business Owners 2024

Organization, filed under:.

I just love a good planner! As someone who finds comfort in organizing and list-making, a paper planner is like a security blanket. Plus, I get to be creative with my planner, using color and stickers to make it something I love to look at and work in. And with a new year around the bend, I wanted to find the best planners for creatives and handmade business owners!

These planners are my favorites, plus recommendations from other handmade business owners in the Bloom Facebook group .

Use this list to find the best planner for you and your business, and start the new year with fresh pages and an organized mind!

Here we go!

Disclosure: some of the links below are affiliate links, meaning, at no additional cost to you, I will earn a commission if you click through and make a purchase.

My Favorite Planner for My Personal Life: The Happy Planner

The Happy Planner is my favorite planner for all my personal organizing, so I had to include it on this list!

A woman with colored markers writing in her daily planners.

They have a ton of beautiful designs to choose from, including Disney planner designs. There are a variety of sizes and styles to fit whatever you need.

You can choose from dated and undated versions, as well as layouts. There are also extension packs that you can add to your planner for meal planning, faith, budgeting and working from home .

And don’t forget the stickers ! They have so many to choose from. Overall this planner is extremely versatile as well as pretty.

My Favorite Planners for Handmade Business: The Full Focus Planner

The Full Focus Planner by Michael Hyatt is perfect for business planning. It is a task-orientated planner, with a system for identifying your top priorities and then planning how to achieve them.

The Weekly Preview and Review gives you the opportunity to go over what worked well and what needs improvement. You can then plan out your week with new goals.

The full focus planner by Michael Hyatt

The Full Focus Planner includes goal worksheets as well, so you can really zoom in on what you want to achieve and plan out exactly what you need to do to get there.

One option that I love is the short list of action items per day. I tend to get overwhelmed with super long to-do lists. This planner gets rid of the overwhelm! It helps me narrow down my list to just the essential tasks I need to complete, which makes it easier for me to get them done.

The Full Focus Planner is a 90-day planner, so you will need to purchase a new one each quarter, but I feel it’s well worth it as it’s really helped me focus and organize my business.

Now is the perfect time to start focusing on your goals, especially for the holidays! If you’re starting to plan out your marketing strategy , using a planner makes it so much easier, I think.

One of the Best Planners for Creatives: Bloom Daily Planners

I had to include these planners, just for the name itself! A Facebook group recommendation, the Bloom Daily Planner is an affordable and pretty option.

They offer both hardcover and softcover versions, as well as dated and undated planners. Their planners include monthly vision boards, and hand-lettered quotes.

Bloom Daily Planner example, a great option of planners for creatives

The Vision Planners give you lots of space for writing out your yearly mission statement, values and goals, ideal week planning, affirmations and more.

They also carry a variety of sticker packages to make your planner pages fun and colorful.

More Great Planners for Creatives and Handmade Business Owners: MäksēLife Planners

This is another recommendation from the Facebook group. Similar to the Full Focus Planner, MäksēLife planners have detailed goal-setting pages, with 21 pages of instructions so you can be super focused on your goals.

Mäksē is pronounced “moxie” – which means energy, determination and know-how. A fitting name for a goal-setting planner, I think!

A planner example by MäksēLife Planners

These planners come with a few different cover art options. But they only come dated, and they release their yearly planners in November.

They also provide stickers for their planners, although they are more functional and less artistic than other planner stickers.

Imperfect Inspiration: Planners for People Who Don’t Do Planners

The planners designed by Imperfect Inspiration are made for people who are neurodivergent, such as those with ADHD. They also have specifically designed planners for creatives and small business owners!

A sample of planners for creatives and handmade business owners by Imperfect Inspiration

These fun planning pages have spaces for goals, content marketing (yay!), tracking sales, habits, and more.

You can even choose to download the pages and print them yourself, or get a laminated planner that is customized for what you want to include.

One especially cool option is a scratch-off reward chart ! Use it to set a big goal and then break it down into steps. After finishing each step, you get to scratch off a circle. What a great way to motivate yourself!

The Legend Planner: An Affordable Option for Business Owners

The Legend Planner is a great option under $30 that gives you everything you need to be organized and prioritize your goals.

It includes pages to set and work on yearly goals , and monthly pages that give you the space to work on that month’s tasks.

There are 8 pages of yearly and monthly goal-setting and vision pages. Plus, you get bullet journal type pages in the back of the planner for note-taking and doodling.

A woman's hand writing in a legend planner as part of planners for creatives post

The Legend Planner also comes with sticker sheets, and has pockets for holding important papers. The planners are undated, which makes them the perfect choice for starting one mid-year. And you can choose from a 90-day planner or one that has more months.

The Best Planners for Creatives & Handmade Business Owners 2024

This is the perfect time to start planning for your business’ new year. If you’re looking for a planner to help you organize, hopefully one of these suggestions will help! I’m sure you’ll find the best planner for your handmade business.

And if you’re not already a member of my Facebook group , why not join us? It’s free, and you’ll be in a group of other like-minded entrepreneurs who are there to share and support each other.

I am a planner addict! LOVE to try out new planners and that Full Focus one is new to me. I am very intrigued! Thank you for sharing!

I LOVE my Bloom planner! I just got one for 2024 and with my fresh pack of colored pens I am READY to hit the ground running next year!

How To Get A Small Business Loan Using These 7 Easy Steps

Starting a small business is an exciting journey, but it often requires a significant amount of capital to get off the ground and you’ll need to know how to get a small business loan. Whether you need funds for inventory, equipment, marketing, or working capital, securing a small business loan can provide the financial boost necessary to turn your business idea into reality.

However, obtaining a loan as a start-up can be challenging, especially if you’re navigating the process for the first time.

Let’s walk through the steps to get a small business start-up loan and set your business on the path to success.

1. understand the types of business loans available.

Before applying for a loan, it's crucial to understand the different types of start-up loans available. Here are some of the most common options:

Traditional Bank Loans: Banks offer loans to start-ups, but they typically require a strong credit history, a solid business plan, and collateral. These loans often come with lower interest rates but are harder to qualify for.

SBA Loans: The Small Business Administration (SBA) offers several loan programs for start-ups, including the SBA 7(a) loan and SBA Microloan Program. These loans are partially guaranteed by the government, which reduces the lender’s risk and can make them more accessible to start-ups.

Netflix’s Best New Mystery Crime Show Has A Perfect 100% Critic Score

Will beyoncé perform at dnc’s final night conflicting reports after tmz says she’ll appear., nyt ‘strands’ hints, spangram and answers for friday, august 23rd.

Online Lenders: Online lending platforms offer start-up loans with varying terms and interest rates. These lenders may be more flexible with their requirements, making it easier for start-ups with less established credit to qualify.

Business Credit Cards: While not a traditional loan, business credit cards can provide short-term funding for start-ups. They can be a good option for covering immediate expenses but should be used with caution due to high-interest rates.

Microloans: Microloans are small loans, typically under $50,000, offered by nonprofit organizations and community lenders. These loans are often easier to obtain for start-ups, especially those focused on underserved communities.

2. Prepare a Solid Business Plan

When you're applying for a small business loan, having a solid business plan is crucial. It’s your chance to show lenders that you’ve thought things through and have a clear direction for your business. They need to see that you not only have a vision but also a practical plan for how the loan will help you achieve your goals. A well-prepared business plan demonstrates your commitment and makes it easier for lenders to trust you with their money.

3. Evaluate Your Creditworthiness

Your personal and business credit scores play a significant role in your ability to secure a start-up loan. Before applying, review your credit report and address any issues that could negatively impact your score. Lenders will look at:

Personal Credit Score: As a start-up, your personal credit score will be heavily considered. A score above 700 is typically preferred by lenders.

Business Credit Score: If your business has been established for a while, lenders will also consider your business credit score. If you’re just starting out, focus on building your business credit by opening a business bank account and using business credit cards responsibly.

4. Gather Necessary Documentation

When you're applying for a small business loan, be prepared to provide a variety of documents that lenders will need to evaluate your application. These typically include your personal and business tax returns for the past two to three years, financial statements like profit and loss statements , balance sheets, and cash flow statements, and any relevant legal documents such as business licenses and registrations.

You'll also need to share personal financial details, including your assets, liabilities, and net worth. If you're offering collateral, you'll have to provide proof of ownership and its value. Having these documents ready can streamline the process and improve your chances of securing the loan.

5. Choose the Right Lender

When choosing a lender , it's essential to recognize that not all lenders offer the same experience, and selecting the right one can greatly impact your loan process. Begin by comparing loan terms, including interest rates, repayment conditions, and any associated fees, to find the most advantageous terms for your business.

Evaluate the lender's reputation by researching reviews and ratings, prioritizing those known for excellent customer service and transparency. Ensure that you meet the lender’s eligibility requirements, which may include specific criteria such as credit score, business revenue, and the length of time your business has been operating.

Consider the loan process itself and pay attention to the application steps, the time it takes to get approved, and the speed at which funds can be disbursed. These factors combined will help you choose a lender that best meets your business needs.

6. Apply for the Loan

Once you’ve prepared your business plan, evaluated your creditworthiness, gathered the necessary documentation, and chosen a lender, it’s time to apply for the loan. Be prepared to answer questions about your business, provide additional documentation if requested, and negotiate loan terms if necessary.

7. Use the Loan Wisely

After securing your start-up loan, it’s crucial to use the funds wisely. Stick to your business plan, track your spending, and ensure that the loan is used to grow your business in a sustainable way. Responsible management of your loan funds will not only help your business succeed but will also build your credibility with lenders, making it easier to secure additional financing in the future.

The bottom line is that securing a small business start-up loan can be a complex process, but with the right preparation and approach, it is entirely achievable. By following these steps you can obtain the funding you need to launch and grow your business. Remember, the key to success is not just getting the loan but using it effectively to build a thriving business.

Our review-only service just includes feedback, but if you decide you'd like to engage in our full professional business plan writing services after participating in a review, we'll give you a discount.

What if I already started writing my plan?

If you have a partially completed plan, we can work with that. In fact, it helps the plan writing process go faster because we'll have to ask fewer questions, but you'll want to choose the full business plan writing service.

Do you do market research? What does that include?

Yes, we do market research. We have access to industry reports for most industries and our business plan writers will use them to lend more credibility to your plan and validate the assumptions we are making in your financials.

What is included with the full business plan writing service?

When it's all said and done, you'll have a full, lender or investor ready business plan, a one page pitch, and a free year of LivePlan so you can make changes to your plan as well as use our cash flow and business management tools to stay on track.

Can you guarantee that my business will get funded?

There are a lot of factors that go into the decision making process for lending that are beyond our control, like your personal credit. What we can say is that it is very difficult to get funding without a solid business plan and we make solid plans with our professional business plan writing services.

Will you share my information?

We take your privacy very seriously and will not share your information.

How long will it take to finish my plan? / Do you offer an expedited service?

The average business plan completes in 3-6 weeks, depending on your responsiveness to your writer and our work load. We offer expedited business plan writing services if you are in a rush.

Yes, we can deliver an expedited plan in as little as two weeks for an additional $1,000.

Does my business plan include financials?

What formats do you deliver in.

We deliver in PDF format, Word and we also give you access to edit your plan in a free LivePlan account.

How many pages is the average business plan?

We subscribe to the lean business planning method so we try to keep your plan short and to the point. Depending on the complexity of your business, your finished plan can end up being anywhere from 25-50 pages.

Pricing and Options

How much does this business plan writing service cost.

The cost of our full professional business plan writing services can vary depending on your needs. Book a call with us to request a quote. We also offer a lower cost business plan review service and a forecasting service.

Small Business Definitions

What is a business plan.

In its simplest form, a business plan is a guide —a roadmap for your business that outlines goals and details how you plan to achieve those goals. At its heart, a business plan is just a plan for how your business is going to work, and how you're going to make it succeed.

What is in a business plan?

To write a detailed business plan you need to include the following sections:

The executive summary is an overview of your business and your plans. It comes first in your plan and is ideally only one to two pages. Most people write it last, though.

The opportunity section answers these questions: What are you actually selling and how are you solving a problem (or "need") for your market? Who is your target market and competition?

In the execution chapter of your business plan, you'll answer the question: how are you going to take your opportunity and turn it into a business? This section will cover your marketing and sales plan, operations, and your milestones and metrics for success.

Investors look for great teams in addition to great ideas. Use the company and management chapter to describe your current team and who you need to hire. You will also provide a quick overview of your legal structure, location, and history if you're already up and running.

Your business plan isn't complete without a financial forecast . We'll tell you what to include in your financial plan, but you'll definitely want to start with a sales forecast, cash flow statement, income statement (also called profit and loss), and your balance sheet.

If you need more space for product images or additional information, use the appendix for those details.

Why is a business plan important?

There are many reasons why it is important to have a business plan . A business plan is essential if you're seeking a loan or investment, can help you make big spending decisions with confidence and is a solid foundation for ongoing strategic planning and prioritization.

What is a business plan writer/consultant?

A business plan writer/consultant is a business and financial expert who can help guide you through the process of creating a business plan and do much of the labor involved in creating it. They will work with you to understand your business model, do market research, create financial projections and offer guidance as all of those pieces are brought together in a full business plan document.

How to pick a business plan writer/consultant?

Picking a business plan writer or business plan consultant is an important decision — you'll want to find someone dedicated to your success, with experience in your industry or field and that is in it for the long haul.

Why should you pay someone to write your business plan?

You don't have time. Starting a business is time consuming. Oftentimes people have to juggle a regular 9-5 job while working on starting their business. That doesn't leave a lot of time for a big writing project. Hiring a professional business plan writer can help you give you time to focus on the tasks that are critical to getting your business off the ground.

You want to make sure it is done right, the first time. You only get one chance to make a first impression. Hiring a professional to write your business plan for you can give you the peace of mind that your plan is the best it can be when you present it to potential lenders or investors.
