Obama’s former speechwriter launches new podcast for the Trump era

Politically-engaged podcast fans may already be familiar with Jon Lovett.

Now, the former Obama speechwriter, ex Newsroom producer and co-host of Pod Save America is back with a brand new podcast: Lovett or Leave It.

With ITV’s recent attempt at emulating the style of late-night US broadcasting proving divisive, it could be up to Lovett and co to show us how it’s really done – in podcasting form.

The hero America needs?

Through his time on Pod Save America, his three-year stint as a political speechwriter for the Obama administration and his time alongside Aaron Sorkin on HBO’s The Newsroom, Lovett has picked up invaluable experience in both the political and entertainment spheres.

It’s given him the knowledge and delivery that helped made Pod Save America a success, and now he’s branching out on his own.

Listeners can expect a slickly produced show that will bridge the gap between current affairs and comedy.

America’s political scene is more turbulent than ever, and Lovett aims to “deal with…our broken, insane political nightmare factory” on a weekly basis, according to  Crooked Media .

A new satirical powerhouse

Late night US TV is rife with scathing takes. Whether it be The Daily Show or Jon Oliver’s much revered Last Week Tonight, the country produces some terrific satire – which translates just as well on the other side of the Atlantic.

Lovett or Leave It is looking to step confidently into these waters.

The show will be filmed in front of a live studio audience every Friday night, with a panel of comedians, actors and journalists breaking down the week’s biggest news.

Expect “rants”, “bad impressions”, “dramatic readings” and “shouting at cable news clips”, in copious supply.

We’re assured the show will also feature nuanced discussion.

But with former head-writer of The US Office Lee Eisenberg on board as producer, listeners can be sure that whatever happens in the studio is likely to be entertaining.

Lovett or Leave It is available to subscribe to now, with the first episode available on Saturday March 25

Don't listen to this show if don't want Succession spoiled. I'm really upset that the jokes about succession had spoilers. Not only that, they were perhaps the least aware comedy of the entire podcast.
