1 Minute Speech on Health and Fitness

‘Good morning, respected teachers and dear friends. Today, I am here to present a speech on health and fitness. We often hear phrases like ‘health is wealth’ and ‘fitness is the key.’ But what do these words mean? Health implies being well physically and mentally. A healthy and fit person can function effectively in all aspects of life.

Health and fitness are crucial to our lives. Without good health, we cannot enjoy activities, interact positively with loved ones, or even sleep well. Our elders have always valued health, treating it as a treasure. To maintain good health, we must focus on hygiene, eat a balanced diet rich in vegetables, proteins, and vitamins, and avoid junk food.

Regular physical activity, such as sports and yoga, boosts flexibility, burns calories, and enhances overall well-being. Additionally, it’s essential to avoid harmful habits like smoking and drinking and to ensure adequate sleep.

Prioritizing health and fitness allows us to lead fulfilling, happy lives. Let’s commit to staying healthy and fit.

Thank you.

5 Minute Speech on Health and Fitness

‘Good morning, respected teachers and dear friends. Today, I am here to present a speech on health and fitness. The very known two terms to us are ‘health’ and ‘fitness’. Many times, we use these words in phrases like ‘health is wealth’ and ‘fitness is the key.’ But what do these words mean? Health implies the idea of ‘being well’. A healthy and fit person can function well both physically and mentally. Proper health and fitness do not depend solely on our efforts but also on our physical environment and the quality of food intake.

Health and fitness are the most important aspects of our lives. There is nothing more crucial than health for any human being. When we are healthy and fit, we can enjoy life fully. We can talk to our loved ones, laugh, smile, travel, enjoy food, and sleep well. Conversely, when our health and fitness are not up to the mark, we struggle to do anything properly and fall behind. We cannot enjoy eating, watching sports, or movies. Our mood remains negative, and we are unable to communicate nicely with our loved ones or even sleep properly.

Our health and fitness are more valued than our wealth. Our elders have always emphasized health and fitness, treasuring it like wealth. To maintain good health and fitness at its best, we need to take care of hygiene and sanitation around us. We must eat a healthy and complete diet, including vegetables, milk, eggs, etc. Everyone should create a diet chart and ensure a sufficient intake of carbohydrates, proteins, minerals, and vitamins. Besides eating well, we must maintain cleanliness in our rooms, houses, and nearby surroundings.

Several factors are responsible for the fluctuating health and fitness levels, but the major reason is personal habits and lifestyle. The human body requires 20 grams of fat per day. The consumption of a regular pizza adds 10 grams of fat to the body; a whopper burger adds 13 grams and 100 grams of French fries adds 15 grams. Junk foods are destroying people’s health and fitness. Due to fast-paced lives, people prioritize filling their stomachs over considering the nutritional value and health effects of their food.

As we know that health and fitness play an essential role in our overall well-being, we should strive for a balance between mind, body, and soul. Here are some suggested activities to maintain proper health and fitness:
1. Playing Sports: Engaging in games and sports helps maintain an active body, which can metabolize well and keep us in good shape.
2. Yoga: Yoga has numerous health benefits, including increased flexibility, calorie burning, improved blood flow, and boosted immunity.
3. Healthy Diet: Proper food selection leads to healthy eating. Vitamins found in vegetables and fruits, proteins found in whole grains and lean meat, and low-oil foods help control cholesterol levels.
4. Avoid Harmful Habits: Avoid smoking and drinking as they affect our sleep, which is crucial for the body to remain healthy and in good shape.
5. Regular Exercise: Exercising improves general health. One should take at least thirty minutes a day to exercise or walk.

As Dalai Lama once said, “Happiness is the highest form of health.” Happiness will come only when we are healthy and fit. But today, we live in a world where we value material things more than people, work more than family, food more than health, and status more than life. We rush after money and social status, forgetting about our health. What’s the value of life if we don’t live healthily and fit? This absurd attitude has ruined our lives and will continue to do so unless we open our eyes to reality.

Health and fitness are like the two sides of a coin. One must remain fit to maintain good health. In today’s contemporary world, it has become essential to maintain our health and physique. The quality of life is not judged by how much we earn but by how much we invest in our well-being. Health deals with the physical and mental well-being of a person. A cohesive betterment of an individual involves both physical and mental health.

Fitness is an indicator of discipline and a good lifestyle. A fit person always finds themselves at an advantage in the real world. Exercise, healthy eating, and mental well-being practices like yoga and meditation are key components of a healthy lifestyle. Let’s prioritize our health and fitness, ensuring a happy and fulfilling life.

Thank you.

Speech On Health | Health Speech for Students and Children in English

February 8, 2024 by Prasanna

Speech On Health: Health is considered to be a person’s physical and mental condition. A person requires both good physical health and mental health to survive in this world.

If a person is suffering from any of the problems related to physical or mental health conditions, then it is that person’s responsibility to get it checked. For checking physical health, physicians are required and for checking mental health psychologists or psychiatrists are required.

Both conditions should be kept on regular checks to sustain good health. A person is said to be healthy when he or she is both physically and mentally stable.

Long Speech On Health 500 Words In English

A very good morning to my teachers and to the special guests who have come today; I would like to present a speech on health.

Health is a condition which determines a person’s well being. Health not only includes physical health but also mental health. Some group of people used to think and still think that looking after physical health is fine.

But when it comes to mental health, these people become uncomfortable. They avoid those people who go for regular mental check up. These people should understand that it is important to keep a regular check on both physical and mental health.

People should not look down upon those people who go for regular mental check up. A person is considered to be healthy if he is both physically and mentally stable.

To be physically healthy, a person needs to feed himself with healthy food which provides the body with the nutrients that the body needs to survive. The people also need to avoid food that is unhealthy for the human body.

A visit to the doctor on a regular basis helps in checking one’s physical health. A person does not become ill if he feeds himself with nutrition rich food and if he exercises on a regular basis.

To be mentally healthy, a person needs to stay away from all kinds of negativities, get a good amount of sleep every day, try to stay happy, try to manage stressful situations tactfully, talk to the close friends or relatives, etc.

It is advised to go for a regular mental check up without getting embarrassed thinking about what the people would say or think about him. It is one’s responsibility to be physically and mentally healthy.

One should know that if a person is mentally healthy, then he can be physically healthy as it is our mind which controls everything. One needs to think positively on any situation so that he can improve his thoughts and he can be healthy in every way.

One healthy person can inspire many others who are trying to get better. It is a duty of everyone to help himself and the other people who are in his surrounding healthy and happy.

Many of us like to have oily fried foods which are tasty but they are very unhealthy for our bodies. So we should try to stay healthy for most of the times so that we can afford to eat our favourite food sometimes, without harming our body.

Similarly, we should keep our thoughts positive and get a good amount of sleep, and fulfill all the requirements for staying in peace so that we can handle sudden shocks or stress in a manageable way.

People can manage to survive without money but they can’t manage without a stable health. One should lead a very disciplined life to lead a stable life with good physical and mental health. A healthy person lives a longer and happy life.

Speech on Health for Students and Children

Speech on health.

Hello, wonderful people out there. Today I am here to deliver a speech on Health. This includes everything starting from our physical health to mental health. A person who is free from illness, free from injury and free from pain in both mind and body is considered as healthy.  One may have a healthy body, but his mind might be sick. On the contrary, one can have a healthy mind but might have a sick body. Hence the balance between the two is extremely important and if a person with a healthy body has a healthy mind, then that person can be considered as a healthy individual. We are part of a population and community. Hence we all have a responsibility towards making it a healthy community.

What is Physical Health?

Physical health tells about the state of our physical body. That how are we maintaining our body. This has nothing to do with the physical appearance, being slim or anything like that. It means that how our physical body is operating.

Whether we are able to perform our regular daily tasks well, whether we are facing any sort of fatigue, pain or are being lethargic in short intervals. Physical health powerfully connects and affects other components of health. For example, if we don’t sleep well, or if we are having an interrupted sleep then the next day we are not able to perform well.

If we are not feeling physically healthy then it affects our mood and confidence level as well. We can adapt certain healthy habits to live a healthy lifestyle. Like being active throughout the day, by eating and drinking a balanced diet, by taking care of hygiene and disease prevention. Our physical health lays a foundation for many important aspects of our life, hence we need to take very good care of our bodies.

What is Mental Health?

We all have mental health. It is just as important as physical health. Mental health comprises our emotional, psychological and social well being. It affects how we feel, think and act. It also is a determinant of how we handle stress.

Thus, it is very important at every stage of life. It depends upon our genetic makeup and upbringing, Our life circumstances and the stresses we encounter in our life. Some people at some stage may have mental disorders like depression and anxiety.

Later at other stages of life, they may have positive mental health when they feel contented & fulfilled. Our aim should be to have positive mental health where we can reach our full potential and live a satisfying life.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) describes mental health as a state of well being where an individual realizes his full potential, can cope with the stresses in a productive manner and convert it productively and contribute towards the well being of our community.

Being mentally healthy implies that we are able to cope up with difficult times, feel in control, confident and good about ourselves, managing & expressing your emotions and building and maintaining good relationships.

Health specialists say that connecting the dots between food, exercise, and sleep can make a big difference in our health, both mental and physical health. Exercising, eating the right food, nourishing the mind with positive thoughts and healthy companionship.

These habits start in childhood and go ahead with our lives. Then we gradually pass it on to the next generations. Hence, a healthy lifestyle is actually an interlinked chain that is connecting us to our past and future. Let us pledge today to take very good care of our mental and physical health.

Thank you and do take very good care of yourselves.

Speech on Health

Most of us have heard the age-old proverb ‘health is wealth’, but has anyone ever wondered why health is considered wealth? This speech will help students give an effective short speech on health. It will include all the important aspects necessary to cover in a speech about health.

Table of Contents

What is health, how should one take care of their health, precautions to be taken during the pandemic.

  • FAQs on Speech on Health

When we say the word ‘health’, what do we mean by it? As per the WHO (World Health Organisation), health is referred to the state of full mental, social and physical well-being and not just the absence of mental or physical weakness or illness. When a person doesn’t have any physical ailments and isn’t mentally disturbed, then they can be said to be in their best health. People usually try to stay healthy but, due to the recent pandemic, it’s becoming difficult to maintain one’s health.

The spread of the corona virus over the past two years has made it difficult for everyone to maintain their health. Though this is the case, one should try to follow some simple ways that will help them keep their bodies and minds healthy. Let’s look at some ways that anyone can follow:

  • Try including some physical exercises/yoga in your routine. They not only prove to be beneficial for the body but also for the mind. For the past two years, offices, as well as schools and colleges, have been functioning online. As a result, many students and young people have developed backaches and posture problems. Adding at least half an hour of yoga/exercise to your daily routine will help you overcome these problems.
  • In today’s world, everybody is engrossed in their mobiles or laptops, and there’s very little time they spend without it. Sometimes, it is necessary to take a break from all these electronic and smart devices. This will help us maintain proper physical and mental health.
  • A good night’s sleep is an easy and effortless way to maintain your health. Your body works to repair all the cells and make sure that your body functions properly the next day in the time that you rest. A minimum of 8 hours of sleep is necessary for any adult being.
  • Try to avoid processed or fried foods and make sure that your plates include enough vegetables and fruits. A healthy platter does wonders for one’s health.
  • If you are feeling disturbed or upset about something, talk to your near and dear ones; you can also consult a specialist if you need. Just like physical health, mental health is also something that is to be considered important. When we fall ill, we have medicines; similarly, if someone is feeling mentally unwell, they should consult a specialist.

With the COVID19 pandemic going on for the past two years, one should take the following precautions to avoid getting affected by the virus. Here are some simple steps one can follow:

  • Always put on a mask whenever you step out of your houses. This is applicable to people of all ages.
  • Everyone should avoid going to crowded places as there is a high risk of getting affected.
  • If you feel you are affected by the virus, seclude yourself from the rest of your family members and keep in touch with your doctors so that everything is monitored and you stay out of danger.
  • Try to eat healthy food and fruits that’ll help you develop immunity.

Health and Fitness Speech For Students in English

The health and fitness of an individual are associated with each other and must be taken care of. We often forget to prioritise our health and suffer towards the end. Our mental and physical health, both plays a major role in our life and are responsible for a healthy life. This speech on physical fitness will help the students to get an idea about the importance of healthy habits. Along with an informative speech on fitness, we have also provided a 2 minute speech on health and fitness for students of Class 1 and Class 2.

Long Speech on Health and Fitness

A heartiest welcome to each and everyone gathered here. Today, I am going to deliver a speech on health and fitness. Taking care of our health and developing a healthy life is every individual’s responsibility. However, we often neglect our health amidst our busy schedule and as such face difficulty in the future. Our level of fitness totally depends on the amount of physical activity we perform in our daily life. This level of fitness can be easily achieved by inculcating a habit of daily exercise followed by eating healthy.

Drinking sufficient amounts of water and cutting out any form of junk and unhealthy food from our diet is very important for our body and helps in weight loss. Water plays a major role in fat curbing and removes all the unwanted toxins from our body. Any form of unhealthy weight gain may lead to obesity and make us physically inactive. Lack of proper exercise and diet also result in fatigue, headache and improper sleep cycle which harm us not only physically but also mentally. Lighter forms of exercise such as meditation, yoga, and walking reduce stress and give peace of mind to us after a hectic day.

Due to the use of technology in our daily life, we have become more inactive due to the lack of any physical activity. We hardly walk to the nearest store, play on the grounds or use the staircase of our building, rather we do it all through technology without burning any of our calories. Therefore, a little physical exercise makes us tired and ill. But it's never too late and we can always start a healthy lifestyle whenever we want to. Children should opt for playing in the playground rather than spending hours on video games and phones. This will make them healthier and increase their fitness level. Although it may feel difficult to achieve at the beginning, we will be able to enjoy it and feel the difference.

Thus, I would like to conclude my speech by saying that we should take out some time out of our hectic schedule and contribute it to improving our mental as well as physical health. It is our responsibility to transform our body into a healthier version before this technology takes a toll upon our health.

Short Speech on Health and Fitness

A warm welcome to everyone present here today. I am here to deliver a speech on health and fitness. Being surrounded by technology, the level of fitness has reduced a lot in human beings. There is no such physical activity in our day to day life and we completely rely on technology as it is fast and less time-consuming. Also in this busy schedule, we often neglect our health. A healthy lifestyle not only includes our physical health but also includes our mental health. Our level of fitness depends upon how healthy and active our body is.

Leading a healthy life has a lot to do with our food intake and sleep cycle. Lack of proper sleep, physical exercise and regular consumption of junk food affects our health a lot leading to several heart diseases and obesity. This has also affected the mental conditions of individuals thus leading to depression.

Therefore, it is important that we inculcate a habit of exercising daily in the form of yoga, dancing or even walking. Doing so will relax our mind and help us feel positive about ourselves. Trying out meditation is also very beneficial for mental peace. Although a routine of daily exercise and healthy eating might feel difficult to continue at the beginning, one can start by taking small steps towards it. It can include switching junk foods to fruits and vegetables, drinking plenty of water and walking to the nearest stop rather than opting for a vehicle.

Taking out some time for improving our mental and physical health is an important habit to be followed. This, as a result, will help us concentrate well on our work and lead a life full of fitness.

10 Lines Speech on Health and Fitness

This 1 minute speech on health and fitness is specially written for students of Class 1 and Class 2 to give them an understanding of fitness. It is written in a simple and easy to understand manner to help the students with their preparation.

Health and fitness are very important for our life.

Staying healthy will help us become more active and keep us away from various diseases.

It is very important to follow a good and healthy diet to remain fit.

Nowadays we are more addicted to junk foods like burgers, pizza and fries which are unhealthy for us and make us gain weight easily.

We should avoid eating those unhealthy foods and instead develop a habit of eating vitamin-rich fruits and vegetables.

Regular exercise and physical activity are very important to maintain a healthy body and mind.

We should also equally take care of our mental health along with our body.

Meditation, yoga, painting and listening to soft music helps us to relax our mind and concentrate better.

The health of an individual is related to his or her fitness. If we take care of our physical and mental health regularly, it helps us lead a healthy lifestyle.

We can start improving our health by starting with simple steps like drinking plenty of water, taking a walk in the morning and relaxing our mind with meditation.

With our busy schedule and daily work pressure, we often forget to take care of our health. But it is very important to take proper rest and develop a daily time table to gain energy to start fresh the next day.

Speech on Health

Health is something you experience every day. It’s how you feel when you wake up, eat your meals, or play a game.

Good health helps you do things you love with ease. If you’re not healthy, even simple tasks can feel tough.

1-minute Speech on Health

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Health is like a treasure. It’s the most important thing we have. Just like a tree needs water and sunlight to grow, our bodies need good food and exercise to stay strong and healthy. Without health, we cannot enjoy life, play games, or do well in school.

Let’s talk about food first. Eating healthy is like putting the right fuel in a car. Our bodies need fruits, vegetables, proteins, and grains to run properly. We should avoid junk food, sugary drinks, and too many sweets. They can make us feel tired and sick.

Now, let’s talk about exercise. Our bodies are like machines. If we don’t use them, they get rusty. Exercise makes our bodies strong and helps us feel good. We should play games, run, jump, and dance every day.

Finally, we must remember to keep our minds healthy too. Just like a garden, our minds need care. We should read books, learn new things, and spend time with friends and family. This helps us feel happy and relaxed.

In conclusion, health is our greatest treasure. We must take care of it by eating right, exercising, sleeping well, and keeping our minds happy. If we do these things, we can live a long and happy life. Thank you.

2-minute Speech on Health

The first thing to understand about health is the food we eat. Eating the right food is like putting the right fuel in a car. Our bodies need different types of food to work well. We need fruits and vegetables for vitamins and minerals. We need grains for energy. We need protein from meat, beans, or nuts to build muscles. And don’t forget water! Our bodies need a lot of water to stay hydrated. Remember, a healthy meal is a colorful meal.

Exercise is the second part of staying healthy. Just like a car needs to be driven regularly, our bodies need exercise to stay in good shape. Running, jumping, swimming, playing a sport, or even just walking to school or the store are all good ways to exercise. When we exercise, our bodies become stronger and more flexible. We also feel happier and more energetic. So, let’s move and play every day!

Next, let’s talk about rest. Our bodies need to rest to stay healthy. This means getting a good night’s sleep every day. When we sleep, our bodies repair themselves and get ready for the next day. So, make sure you’re getting enough sleep. If you’re feeling tired during the day, it might be because you’re not getting enough sleep at night.

Hygiene is another important part of health. This means keeping our bodies clean. We need to wash our hands before we eat and after we use the bathroom. We need to brush our teeth twice a day to keep our mouths clean. And we need to take a bath or shower regularly to keep our bodies clean. When we keep our bodies clean, we’re less likely to get sick.

In this post, you will find a brilliant Speech on Health and Fitness.

Speech on Health and Fitness

Speech on Health and Fitness (1000+ Words)

Respected Principal, teachers, and dear friends,

Keeping oneself healthy is crucial as it is said that “health is wealth.” Regular exercise helps in maintaining fitness and keeping one’s mind alert. Good health ensures an active and agile mind, just as a person’s mental state reflects their physical health, a weak and unhealthy body affects their mental well-being.

Several recent studies have revealed that the fast-paced and stressful lifestyle of today’s era is responsible for various health conditions, especially heart and neurological problems. Being fit and healthy can help people maintain a positive outlook towards life and work.

Life is meant to be lived joyfully and positively, despite the obstacles and challenges we face. To enjoy the good things in life and tackle its difficulties, one requires the energy and enthusiasm that only a healthy and fit body can provide.

Daily Test - Attempt Now

The journey towards good health starts right from childhood. It depends on how a mother maintains her health and fitness, consumes a balanced diet, and ensures that the environment where they reside is hygienic. These are the two fundamental requirements for a healthy mother and baby. Unfortunately, many children still suffer from dreaded diseases like polio, diphtheria, and typhoid. Hence, prevention is key to maintaining children’s health.

Parents have a great love for their children and want them to grow up healthy, brilliant, and intelligent. It is the basic responsibility of parents to ensure the physical and mental well-being of their children. However, the health and fitness of children are equally important to others as they are the future of the country and the hope of everyone.

As the saying goes, “A child is the father of a man.” The growth and development of a child determine the quality of the adult they will become. A healthy child is likely to grow into a healthy and fit man who can be a valuable resource for the country, society, and humanity. It is not wrong for others to come forward and extend their services to help children maintain good health and fitness.

Various people such as educators, neighbors, friends, athletes , coaches, trainers, media, social workers, doctors, and gymnasts can play a significant role in inspiring children to adopt good health and fitness practices.

Schools also provide children with opportunities to develop their physical and mental standards. Good health has always been valuable, but it is even more critical in today’s competitive age where life has become exceptionally quick and stressful right from the beginning.

In today’s world, where educational standards are high and competition is tough, students are expected to study hard and sit in the classroom for extended periods. To ensure that students learn well and maintain good health and fitness, educational institutions need to give equal importance to physical exercises and leisure activities.

When we think of good schools and educational institutions, we often remember those with excellent facilities for sports and other activities that provide physical exercise and entertainment to the students. After extended periods of study and mental work, students require outdoor exercises to refresh their minds.

Every individual with good academic records and sound health is certain to achieve their goals in life, regardless of their chosen career. Good education and health and fitness enable a person to face challenges confidently, leading to progress and success.

A closer look reveals that individuals with good health and fitness perform better in their personal and professional lives. Physical and mental health are equally important for better performance and results. Therefore, everyone needs to prioritize good health to become a result-oriented individual.

Good health and fitness can compensate for a lack of talent in a person’s profession. Working hard on the farm to earn a living requires a lot of physical effort, but it also brings mental satisfaction and a good night’s sleep. In addition, a physically and mentally strong person can contribute more to society and receive recognition from others.

Many professions require good health and fitness as primary qualifications. The armed forces, paramilitary, police, and other forces require individuals who are physically fit and mentally alert. We have witnessed many heroic acts by individuals in these forces who have received awards for their bravery and valor under extreme conditions.

In addition, the private sector also values a well-built appearance along with professional skills. Health is of great importance everywhere, and it is an asset throughout one’s life. Positive thoughts from a healthy mind bring a sparkle to a person’s face, while negative thoughts and illness can lead to a cycle of reactions, which can have a detrimental impact on both the mind and body.

Improving healthcare and fitness is crucial because there is undeniable value in good health. However, many rural areas lack healthcare facilities and suffer from a shortage of doctors and medication. Consequently, people with multiple illnesses or injuries cannot receive adequate treatment. Even if they travel to larger cities, poor individuals may be unable to afford private hospital treatment for major diseases.

Despite the importance of medical facilities, increased awareness is necessary for maintaining good health and physical fitness. Individuals who are mindful of their health and fitness can join yoga camps or gyms, serving as a source of inspiration for others. By adopting healthy lifestyles, people can become disease-free and enjoy better health and well-being.

Furthermore, freeing oneself from unhealthy and negative thoughts like self-indulgence can foster the will to improve one’s body and mind, reducing illnesses with psychological origins. As a result, individuals can experience superior mental and physical health.

With this, I conclude my speech. Thank you all for your patience and cooperation.

In this competitive and crowded world, everyone has forgot to take care of their health. They start a run in the early morning (to earn money for their family) which only ends in the late night. People do not have a little bit of time for themselves. They only earn money, eat and sleep. • We should eat heart friendly foods like yellow, orange and green vegetables and fruits.
  • We should reduce the intake of food and exercise more as the age increases.
  • We should go for daily light and heavy physical exercises by keeping in mind the structure of body.
  • Regular exercises enhances basic metabolic rate which increases absorption of digested food and burns extra body fat by improving vital organs functioning.
  • We should practice yoga and meditation at home on daily basis.

Short Motivational Speech on How to Be Healthy

keynote speakers

It really feels great to celebrate your good health every day. Below is a short motivational speech to help you appreciate your vibrant health. By appreciating it, your health will thrive and grow.

We all treasure those days where we feel alive, energized and happy. You look good, you feel good, and you have loads of energy.

Your good health flows through you and around you. Your energy is infectious and contagious. When you focus on and appreciate this amazing vitality, it will grow and expand.

What does it mean to have great health, and how can we find more of it? Obviously, exercise, sleep, diet are important, but we all know that. I think good health has as much to do with how you feel about your vitality as what you do about it.

If you believe in your health, it can flourish.

If you believe in your bodies ability to heal, it will flo urish

If you believe in your vitality and energy, it will flourish

What does it mean to be healthy?

Healthy is a lifestyle

Healthy is a state of being

Healthy is a feeling

You don’t have to search for the feeling of vibrant good health, it's inside you right now, and it just wants your attention.

Being healthy feels good; being sick doesn’t. Let's be healthy and leave sickness behind by focusing on your health.

Health is vitality

Health is energy

Health is feeling good

Focus on this

Your good health is beautiful and powerful. If you want to be healthy, focus on this. Most of the time, people unknowingly focus on sickness at the expense of our health.

For instance, you may have a bad back, but complaining about it is making it worse.

You may have a lot of stress, but worrying about it isn't helping.

You may have anxiety, but stalking solutions to it is making you anxious. By focusing on how anxious you are it's making you anxious

You are just focused in the wrong direction. If you want health, think about health.

Female Virtual Keynote Speaker Jody Urquhart

Many people fear health problems, but it would be a lot more rewarding and easy for you to enjoy your good health.

Even if you have an illness in you, you have health too, or you wouldn't be alive. Appreciate all the amazing things your body does for you every day to keep you alive.

You don't have to worry about breathing

You don't have to worry about digestion

You don't have to worry about growing older

Your body takes care of all of this for you.

Have faith in your health. It's right there. It's been there all along.

I know your stress migraines are super annoying. You can't ignore pain. But you can appreciate a clear mind, a clear head, a healthy life.

If you keep calling out the pain, you keep denying your health. Instead, have compassion for your pain. Be kind to yourself.

You don’t want pain- then what do you want?  Clarity, Relaxation, Calm, Joy, Focus, Vitality?

That all sounds good, so think about that.

Have gratitude for your health

Have gratitude for your vitality

Have gratitude for your life

Give yourself a shot at a life worth living. You can't live that life without your body. Everywhere you go, your body goes with you. You can't live without it, so appreciate your body. Value it for its service; you've been through a lot.

You've shown it some severe wear and tear. You've lived a great life together. Everything breaks down over time, but you can't live without your body. You have to build it back up.

Believe in your health

Believe in your bodies ability to heal itself

Believe in your great future with your great body

Every time you look at your body with disdain, you diminish yourself.

You are your body; your body is you. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

Nourish your body with good thoughts about it. Love your body no matter what.

Short, fat, tall, Ill, strong, gorgeous, ugly, skinny, dark, light.

You are you. You can't get away from yourself. Why waste your energy complaining about who you are? Love your body no matter what, don't compare it to others.

Health is something you have. Health is something you live. So live up to it.

If you woke up every day and started telling your body how much you appreciate it for keeping you healthy, you would feel healthier.

If you woke up every day and started telling your body how much you adore it, you would feel healthier.

If you woke up every day and started telling yourself how healthy you are, you would be healthier.

What keeps so many health problems in your life is your focus on them. You agitate your good health every time you think about bad health. You are putting priority on health problems, and it's holding you back.

You are meant to live a long, healthy and fulfiling life. Your only job is to go live it.

Don’t doubt your health

Don't worry about your health

Don't beat yourself up because you put on some extra weight.

Instead, appreciate the good health that you have, and it will flourish.

Speech on Health

The much talked about thing these days is Health. Everyone has become conscious about what to eat and what to avoid. People have taken up physical exercise or a sport to keep themselves fit. A lot of gyms have come up as a result; health canters too have mushroomed in every locality. A whole lot of youngsters, office goers have realised the importance of taking care of oneself and they eat healthy and stay fit.

On this page we have shared here some examples of Speech on Health and its importance, that will help you with a preparing a speech of your own, for any occasion. Our short speech on Health can be used at school or college level and the long speeches may be used by speakers other than children. The language is easy to understand with simple words that each one can relate to. You can draw reference from our speeches and make your speech interesting for your audience.

Long and Short Speech on Health

Speech on health – 1.

“Those who think they have no time for exercise will sooner or later have to find time for illness.”   A very famous saying by Mr. Edward Stanley-the three times Prime Minster of the UK.

Good morning to all who join me here today on this occasion of World Health Day. We are all aware and will agree with Mr Edward. And the truth is a lot of us are even conscious about the fact that health is a matter of utmost importance. We all know and have heard umpteen numbers of times to have a healthy start to begin our day. Let us face it, how many of us truthfully follow a health regime. I would say just about 20% roughly! It is not a fact but my estimation, it may be low or it may be high, depending from country to country, region to region. According to a survey in America a few years back, obesity was becoming a bigger disease than cancer.

Only a healthy person can enjoy the fruits of his labour. What use is ones richness if a person who is wealthy lacks good health? He or she will be spending most of it either on medical bills or on employing help who will assist them to complete their daily chores.

“Health is like money, we never have a true idea of its value until we lose it.”  Says Josh Billings – a famous humour writer & professor in UK University. So very right he was when he said it a century back. It still hold good and will be for next centuries to come.

So before this happens to us, and we lose our health, it is time to think. It is time to change. Who said that change is easy? It is a fight against your own will power. It is after all I who is stopping myself from doing what is best for me. The benefits of health begin with me. So the efforts also must begin with me. The day one realises this he or she will become actively involved in building this invaluable asset called healthy body. It is after all a healthy body in which a sound mind lives. If we are healthy we will be able to work better, think better, live better and enjoy to the fullest this gift called life.

Lastly, I would want to point out, that great health can be achieved by eating healthy, following at least one physical activity every day, if possible, sleeping sufficient, drinking enough water to keep yourself hydrated, getting up early and doing yoga. Yes and most importantly stay away from junk food as far as possible. It is alright to have fried food once in a blue moon, but having it on say every weekend can only damage your arteries. I leave it up to you my dear listeners, what combination works for you. I end my speech with this very famous saying by William Shakespeare

“Our bodies are our gardens – our wills are our gardeners.”

Speech on Health – 2

Greetings everyone! It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you all on behalf of all my staff and colleagues. Whether one is a small as a kid, an adolescent, an old or moving towards the middle age; at every stage our health is the centre of all our activities and the life we lead. A healthy body is a vehicle and I, the conscious being, am the master or the traveler.

Friends, these days people have become very conscious about their health & are often seen going to gyms, dance classes, aerobics or yoga centres etc. Some of the people do this as a style statement, without knowing how important it is for each one of us to keep fit. And keeping fit does not necessarily mean that one has muscles and can show them off. But it definitely does mean that you have an active lifestyle and are able to do your work without feeling too tired or feel taxed on your strength. I mean you do not feel the daily chores tiring and you are able to enjoy the day fully. For me health is an integral part of your daily activities woven into a day’s schedule. Taking care of your health is something that cannot be thought of as an activity for which you will take out time when you are free from office, or daily chores. There are various aspects on which our health is dependent. They include physical, mental and emotional factors.

For achieving physical strength it is important that we begin our day with some sort of physical exercise. Go for your morning walk or gym, yoga, or simply exercise at home if you like. Basically, do whatever you are fonder of and can take up physically according to your age. Take your pick and then, stick to the schedule. To be with your plan you need a lot of, no, not physical, but mental power too. Yes you got it; a lot of will power is needed to follow your regime. A very famous Spanish proverb says “A man too busy to take care of his health is like a mechanic too busy to take care of his tools.”

“To keep the body in good health is a duty… otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear” said Buddha.

Now that you have chosen your sport and a regime and imbibed it in your system, the next best thing to do is to check what you eat. This is the most important aspect of keeping fit and healthy. Eating too little or too much both is bad. As rightly said by Buddha, the wise one, it is our duty to keep our body healthy. By choosing the right food that gives us nutrition and strength, we need to take it in the right quantity. Avoid junk food as much as possible. “Garbage in Garbage Out” is the principle that applies in our life as much as on a computer. Eat junk and the result is a fat lethargic & lazy you! If you want a healthy body and a clear, strong mind then you must eat your greens, have a balanced diet, drink milk, juices and adequate amount of water.

Last but not the least we must keep ourselves mentally and emotionally fit too. Keep our emotions in control. We must learn to handle our anger, learn to be patient and accommodating to the others’ needs. This may be easily achieved by some people, credit it to family values or great upbringing. But for those who are still struggling to control their emotions meditation is the answer. Meditation, not just on our goals, but also helps us to achieve more. It helps us to stay focused. It helps us clear our minds and create space for creative and constructive thoughts. Especially in the times of today where there is so much stress is ours lives, we need to distress and think and work rationally. Our EQ is more important than IQ I say. Only a healthy mind can be trained to achieve the unachievable. So meditation is what we must learn to practice, each day. It is the health in totem that is desired after all.

As I said in the beginning, our body is a vehicle, it is important for us to understand that neglecting it will end us up with facing difficulties. Sometimes it may make it difficult for us even to breathe. A little negligence on our part may mean invitation to illness. A very famous Dutch proverb puts things in perspective, It says, “Sickness comes on horseback but departs on foot” One who suffers from ailments can best tell you how important it is to be healthy. So if we need to reach our life’s destination comfortably and become successful in our career, be an asset and not a liability, then we have to learn to take great care of this precious gift that we get so naturally. It is important for this vehicle to be in the best of its condition to enable us to enjoy the fruits of our labour.

I urge each one of us to be a health freak. Be super conscious. It is a great thing to do. Stay healthy and fit. Enjoy! Thank you.

Speech on Health – 3

Good Morning respected Principal Ma’m, teachers & my dear friends,

The fresh breeze in the morning, the dawn that brings the soothing rays of the sun, green plants and trees, fragrances from the roses & marigold in the balcony, they all are inspiration enough for anyone to go out and be there. You may want to go and be in the best of the company – Mother Nature’s lap, the one place where you always find comfort. Nothing can bind you to your bed, once you have had the experienced the morning freshness. And if you have enjoyed this precious gift, you will fully agree with me.

These are some reasons to inspire you to have a healthy start of your otherwise super busy, tiring and officious day.

I start my day with some exercise, with my mother, and then my daily routine begins. All through the day my healthy start keeps me energetic and lively so I can complete all my tasks efficiently and enthusiastically. Exercise induces and increases the adrenaline in my blood taking the energy levels high improving the oxygen supply to the organs that otherwise do not receive it and improves my muscle endurance.

Interestingly exercising helps in producing a feeling of happiness and reduces pain. It helps people who suffer from anxiety, feelings of depression. It can actually be very effective in lifting ones mood. And if you are looking for weight loss, then exercising is your one-stop shop solution.

Since the benefits of exercising are not limited to physical maintenance, they can be realised only by the people who actually follow a strict regime. They will tell us how it also helps to keep them mentally healthy too. For, studies now have proven that people who exercise regularly have improved brain functioning, swift thinking and definitely better memory.

It can be concluded from here that exercise has a direct relation with health. Health is a sum total of physical fitness as well as mental and emotional.

A morning walk, jog, aerobics, yoga or cycling on fresh lovely mornings; is way to jump-start your day. You choose the activity that appeals to you and that you are able to endure physically. Exercise regularly and you will see the difference. If you are young then you will definitely feel more energetic and be able to do much more than you can otherwise manage. And if you are in your middle age then you can easily keep all the heart ailments and other many such monsters at bay.  One study has found that by regular fitness regime you can decrease blood pressure and blood fat levels.

These days even good organisations and offices have become health conscious and have developed the surroundings of their premise around the  fact that one must, and needs to get up from his or her desk and do some physical exercise before going back to work again from a refreshing break. Coffee breaks can wait! Some of the offices allow the officers to cycle & go from one end to the other. Yet there are some who have gyms or re-creational rooms built within their office complex. They have claimed to have better performance from their employees thus increasing their output on the whole.

“Without health life is not life, it is only state of languor and suffering”, said Buddha. And it is only right, thinking, assessing, analysing and adopting the ways that lead us to a path of great health and happiness should be our motive.

Speech on Health – 4

Good Morning! I am glad to see the glowing, beautiful radiant faces of the wonderful August gathering. We popularly say that “You can judge the book by its cover.” And upon seeing all the happy faces my judgement about you is that you are all completely fit and healthy. For if you were not, then you couldn’t have had this glowing luminous smile.

That is the beauty of taking good care of this body that is known as temple of our beautiful soul. We take a lot of things for granted. For example our eyes, hands, legs, power of speaking, hearing and thinking intellectually, they all come so naturally to us that we just cannot think of life without them. Now all these features are the characteristics of a healthy body. But these are the external gifts that life offers us. How about the gift of a healthy stomach, lungs, liver or heart, even muscles? These are some invisible gifts given to humans subtly. If any of these organs stop functioning modestly, our life goes for a toss! Thankfully, we do not have to do much of a maintenance job when it comes to taking care of all these body parts. God gave us this beautiful computer fitted inside our head. And this super intelligent thing regulates our systems perfectly.

This machinery of life is a self-driven, self-lubricated and self-maintained intelligent super system. Even your cars or vehicles need maintenance, servicing and an up-keep schedule. The great thing about your vehicles is that we can always change them, buy new ones when their life gets over or you get bored with the old ones. But your most important vehicle, your body is given to you only once! You need to take care of it. It is your prime duty to maintain it. If this body is not healthy then even the best of the cars in your fleet is going to be of no use to you.

The health of your body is the health of your soul. Keeping an active regime, eating healthy food, having healthy thoughts, i.e. thinking positive thoughts, keeping a positive attitude towards others and keeping your environment clean are the contributors of a holistic approach towards health. Yoga and meditation has become such a rage these days. Every guru, every sports coach, life coach and professional organizations have become aware of the importance of including YAM -yoga & meditation in the daily lives of the people who follow them or are attached to them. YAM is becoming a way of life. Even in villages and not so urban regions people are becoming conscious day by day. It is only the ones who take their life too casually, and are care less about their body and life otherwise, are doing too little to keep healthy and fit. They are the ones you will find mostly in eating joints, restaurants, bakery shops, sweet shops etc. These people can then easily be spotted frequenting hospitals, doctors and chemists, taking self-medication sometimes to overcome their digestion problems. Most of the times they even are seem fighting with obesity too.

Healthy people on the other hand can be seen in the parks, playing the fields and sports clubs, gaming or simply walking, jogging or running. Such people even the cold weather conditions cannot stop. It is not that these self-motivated self-driven self-directed people do not go out and eat in various places. It is just that they do it less frequently and the quantity and quality of food they order is definitely different from the food ordered by unhealthy eaters. It is all about making choices in life, whether professional or personal. Substantial deliberation in the way we want to lead our life is the key. We must use our power of discretion sensibly and judiciously. What we allow inside our digestive system is our choice. What we think is also our choice. So keeping a virile body and prophylactic mind will lead us towards an invigorating health.

While exercise and good eating habits are good for body, meditation is wonderful for our mind, thoughts and brain. It helps us to have a superb memory and keeps us peaceful and composed throughout our day. While yoga gives us physical competency, meditation gives us psychological and cognitive aptitude. And for an exemplary life lived in a perfect manner we need both. Now the most important thing is time. We all very conveniently blame it on time. We say where the time is. We are always hard-pressed for this precious commodity. But the truth is we are too relaxed and lazy when it comes to doing things for our own self. Procrastination is engraved in our souls as an inherited feature. We just delay it incessantly and perpetually, knowing that one day we will have to do it when we see it on a prescription given to us by a doctor, when it just may be not too late for us to change our reckless ways we have been treating our body. So why wait till that extremity. Why not start now. Why not make some time for the best to happen now. Let us change for “If you won’t change then who will”.

US government report says fluoride at twice the recommended limit is linked to lower IQ in kids

NEW YORK (AP) — A U.S. government report expected to stir debate concluded that fluoride in drinking water at twice the recommended limit is linked with lower IQ in children.

The report, based on an analysis of previously published research, marks the first time a federal agency has determined — “with moderate confidence” — that there is a link between higher levels of fluoride exposure and lower IQ in kids. While the report was not designed to evaluate the health effects of fluoride in drinking water alone, it is a striking acknowledgment of a potential neurological risk from high levels of fluoride.

Fluoride strengthens teeth and reduces cavities by replacing minerals lost during normal wear and tear , according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The addition of low levels of fluoride to drinking water has long been considered one of the greatest public health achievements of the last century.

“I think this (report) is crucial in our understanding” of this risk, said Ashley Malin, a University of Florida researcher who has studied the effect of higher fluoride levels in pregnant women on their children. She called it the most rigorously conducted report of its kind.

The long-awaited report released Wednesday comes from the National Toxicology Program, part of the Department of Health and Human Services. It summarizes a review of studies, conducted in Canada, China, India, Iran, Pakistan, and Mexico, that concludes that drinking water containing more than 1.5 milligrams of fluoride per liter is consistently associated with lower IQs in kids.

The report did not try to quantify exactly how many IQ points might be lost at different levels of fluoride exposure. But some of the studies reviewed in the report suggested IQ was 2 to 5 points lower in children who’d had higher exposures.

Since 2015, federal health officials have recommended a fluoridation level of 0.7 milligrams per liter of water, and for five decades before the recommended upper range was 1.2. The World Health Organization has set a safe limit for fluoride in drinking water of 1.5.

The report said that about 0.6% of the U.S. population — about 1.9 million people — are on water systems with naturally occurring fluoride levels of 1.5 milligrams or higher.

“The findings from this report raise the questions about how these people can be protected and what makes the most sense,” Malin said.

The 324-page report did not reach a conclusion about the risks of lower levels of fluoride, saying more study is needed. It also did not answer what high levels of fluoride might do to adults.

The American Dental Association, which champions water fluoridation, had been critical of earlier versions of the new analysis and Malin’s research. Asked for comment, a spokeswoman late Wednesday afternoon emailed that the organization’s experts were still reviewing the report.

Fluoride is a mineral that exists naturally in water and soil. About 80 years ago, scientists discovered that people whose water supplies naturally had more fluoride also had fewer cavities, triggering a push to get more Americans to use fluoride for better dental health.

In 1945, Grand Rapids, Michigan became the first U.S. city to start adding fluoride to tap water. In 1950, federal officials endorsed water fluoridation to prevent tooth decay, and continued to promote it even after fluoride toothpaste brands hit the market several years later. Though fluoride can come from a number of sources, drinking water is the main source for Americans, researchers say.

Officials lowered their recommendation for drinking water fluoride levels in 2015 to address a tooth condition called fluorosis, that can cause splotches on teeth and was becoming more common in U.S. kids.

Separately, the Environmental Protection Agency has maintained a longstanding requirement that water systems cannot have more than 4 milligrams of fluoride per liter. That standard is designed to prevent skeletal fluorosis, a potentially crippling disorder which causes weaker bones, stiffness and pain.

But more and more studies have increasingly pointed to a different problem, suggesting a link between higher levels of fluoride and brain development. Researchers wondered about the impact on developing fetuses and very young children who might ingest water with baby formula. Studies in animals showed fluoride could impact neurochemistry cell function in brain regions responsible for learning, memory, executive function and behavior.

In 2006, the National Research Council, a private nonprofit organization in Washington, D.C., said limited evidence from China pointed to neurological effects in people exposed to high levels of fluoride. It called for more research into the effect of fluoride on intelligence.

After more research continued to raise questions, the National Toxicology Program in 2016 started working on a review of the available studies that could provide guidance on whether new fluoride-limiting measures were needed.

There were earlier drafts but the final document has repeatedly been held up. At one point, a committee of experts said available research did not support an earlier draft’s conclusions.

“Since fluoride is such an important topic to the public and to public health officials, it was imperative that we made every effort to get the science right,” said Rick Woychik, director of the National Toxicology Program, in a statement.

Malin said it makes sense for pregnant women to lower their fluoride intake, not only from water but also from certain types of tea. It might also make sense to have policy discussions about whether to require fluoride-content on beverage labels, she said.

Fact-Checking Day 2 of the Democratic National Convention

We followed the developments and fact-checked the speakers, providing context and explanation.

  • Share full article

Former President Barack Obama speaking on Tuesday, the second day of the Democratic National Convention.

Former President Barack Obama on Tuesday contrasted Vice President Kamala Harris’s career in public service with former President Donald J. Trump’s record as a political candidate and in the Oval Office.

On the second night of the Democratic National Convention, Mr. Obama; his wife, Michelle Obama; and other Democratic officials focused largely on Ms. Harris’s biography, Mr. Trump’s flaws and voter turnout. The speakers largely hewed close to the facts, but repeated a few attacks on Mr. Trump that were inaccurate or omitted context.

Here’s a look.

Linda Qiu

“Within two months of taking office, our government did respond. We passed the American Rescue Plan, which provided $1,400 for every man, woman and child in the working class. We extended and expanded benefits for the unemployed.”

— Senator Bernie Sanders, independent of Vermont

This needs context.

Mr. Sanders spoke at length comparing the responses of the Trump administration and the Biden-Harris administration. He has a point that as president, Donald J. Trump downplayed the potential impact of the coronavirus and his administration was criticized for a halting and unsteady response , while the Biden-Harris administration took a more forceful approach. But Mr. Sanders omitted from his remarks that Mr. Trump signed into law a stimulus package in March 2020 that included $1,200 checks and unemployment benefits .

“Take it from an actual billionaire, Trump is rich in only one thing: Stupidity.”

— Gov. JB Pritzker of Illinois

This lacks evidence.

While Mr. Trump’s exact net worth is unknown, Forbes and Bloomberg estimate that he is currently a billionaire.

A judge ruled in February in a civil fraud case brought by New York’s attorney general that Mr. Trump had inflated his net worth, and Mr. Trump has long exaggerated his wealth by falsely claiming to be a self-made billionaire .

He fell off Forbes’ annual list of America’s richest 400 people in 2021 and 2023 , and as of Tuesday night, he was not on Bloomberg’s list of the world’s richest people. But he is nonetheless a billionaire, with a net worth of $4.3 billion as of Tuesday, according to Forbes , and, as of March, $6.5 billion, according to Bloomberg . That is due, in part, to his 114 million shares in the parent company of Truth Social, his social media site. As of Tuesday, the company’s stock was trading at $21.42 .

“Donald told us to inject bleach.”

This is exaggerated..

In April 2020, at a news conference shortly after the coronavirus pandemic took hold in the United States, then-President Donald J. Trump publicly mused about the efficacy of disinfectants and light as possible treatments, prompting uproar and confusion . He did not literally instruct people to inject bleach, but raised the suggestion as an “interesting” concept to test out.

At the news conference, a member of Mr. Trump’s coronavirus task force said that the virus died under direct sunlight and that applying bleach in indoor spaces would kill the virus in five minutes and that isopropyl alcohol would kill it in 30 seconds.

Mr. Trump responded: “Supposing we hit the body with a tremendous — whether it’s ultraviolet or just very powerful light — and I think you said that that hasn’t been checked, but you’re going to test it. And then I said, supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or in some other way, and I think you said you’re going to test that too.”

“And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute,” he added. “One minute. And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning. Because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs. So it would be interesting to check that.”

“Donald Trump and JD Vance want to dismantle our health care system, repeal the Affordable Care Act and eliminate protections for pre-existing conditions.”

— Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham of New Mexico

Mr. Trump campaigned in 2016 on repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act, but Republicans in Congress never succeeded.

Though Mr. Trump continues to criticize the health care law as an expensive “disaster,” his statements this campaign have been more ambiguous . And he has said he would retain protections for patients with pre-existing conditions.

“I’m not running to terminate the ACA,” Mr. Trump wrote on social media in March, adding that he would make the health care law “much, much, much better for far less money.” He echoed that message in a video in April .

Mr. Trump has not released any specific details on what this would entail. On his campaign website, he pledged to protect “patients with pre-existing conditions,” though this promise is at odds with his record .

Fact checking DNC 2024 Day One speeches from Biden, Hillary Clinton and other Democrats

By Laura Doan , Amelia Donhauser

Updated on: August 20, 2024 / 9:54 AM EDT / CBS News

CBS News is fact checking some of the statements made by  speakers  during the 2024 Democratic National Convention, which is taking place in Chicago from Monday, Aug. 19 through Thursday, Aug. 22.

The convention began with unity as the theme, and the featured speakers Monday were President Biden and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, as well as a host of others.

Some of the comments that CBS News' Confirmed team fact checked involved Democrats' comments about GOP nominee Donald Trump's record as president, as well as the Biden administration's record.

CBS News is covering the DNC live.

Fact check on Wisconsin Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez's claim that Trump promises "to terminate the Affordable Care Act": Misleading

Details:  In 2016, former President Donald Trump promised to repeal and replace the nation's health care law, the Affordable Care Act (ACA), if elected. During his presidency, he backed attempts by Republicans to repeal parts of the law while carrying over other parts.

In this election cycle, Trump has continued to criticize the law but has said he doesn't support terminating all of its policies outright. In November, Trump said he intends to  "replace"  the Affordable Care Act with another package of health reforms.

In March, he  said  that he was "not running to terminate the ACA" but instead to make it better and cheaper.

Fact check on California Rep. Robert Garcia's claim that Trump "told us to inject bleach into our bodies": False

Details:  In an April 2020 White House  news briefing  with members of the government's coronavirus task force, Trump, who was then president, speculated about combating COVID-19 by injecting disinfectant into the body. He suggested doctors should study this possibility, but he did not tell people to inject bleach into their bodies.

"I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute, one minute," Trump said. "And is there a way we can do something like that — by injection inside or almost a cleaning — because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it'd be interesting to check that, so that you're going to have to use medical doctors with, but it sounds interesting to me."

The Trump White House later offered differing excuses for the remark. It first  said  Trump's comments were taken out of context. A day later, Trump  told  reporters that he was being sarcastic when he raised the possibility of injecting disinfectants.

"I was asking a question sarcastically to reporters like you just to see what would happen," he said.

Fact check on Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin's claim that the U.S. economy added 16 million jobs during the Biden administration: True, but needs context

Details:  Under President Biden, the U.S. economy has added more than 15.8 million jobs, according to July data from  the Bureau of Labor Statistics .

However, it's important to note that the number includes roughly 9 million jobs that were lost during the COVID-19 pandemic. The U.S. economy under Mr. Biden has seen an increase of approximately 6.4 million jobs above February 2020 levels, according to  the Bureau of Labor Statistics .

By comparison, 6.7 million jobs were created in the first three years of former President Donald Trump's term between January 2017 and February 2020, before the pandemic left Trump with record job losses.

Fact checking Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear's claim that Vance thinks women should stay in violent marriages, and pregnancies from rape are "inconvenient": Misleading

Beshear: "JD Vance says women should stay in violent marriages and that pregnancies resulting from rape are simply inconvenient."

Details:  Before he was a Republican Ohio senator,   JD Vance spoke of being raised by his grandparents and their relationship at an  event  in 2021. He contrasted their commitment to each other during an "incredibly chaotic" marriage with modern divorce rates.

"I think the sexual revolution pulled on the American populace, which is the idea that, like, 'Well, okay, these marriages were fundamentally, you know, they were maybe even violent, but certainly they were unhappy," he said. "And so getting rid of them and making it easier for people to shift spouses like they change their underwear, that's going to make people happier in the long term."

"And maybe it worked out for the moms and dads, though I'm skeptical," Vance added. "But it really didn't work out for the kids of those marriages."

Vance has repeatedly said these remarks were taken out of context. In a  statement  to VICE News in 2022 he said, "In my life, I have seen siblings, wives, daughters, and myself abused by men. It's disgusting for you to argue that I was defending those men."

In 2021, Vance was  asked  if anti-abortion laws should include exceptions for rape or incest. He replied: "It's not whether a woman should be forced to bring a child to term, it's whether a child should be allowed to live, even though the circumstances of that child's birth are somehow inconvenient or a problem to the society. The question really, to me, is about the baby," he continued. "We want women to have opportunities, we want women to have choices, but above all, we want women— and young boys in the womb — to have the right to life."

In July, Vance  told  Fox News, "The Democrats have completely twisted my words. What I did say is that we sometimes in this society see babies as inconveniences, and I absolutely want us to change that."

Fact checking Biden's claim there are fewer border crossings today than when Trump left office: True, needs context

President Biden : "There are fewer border crossings today than when Donald Trump left office."

Details:  In July, migrant apprehensions along the U.S. southern border dropped to  56,408 , the lowest level since September 2020, according to  U.S. Customs and Border Protection  data. When Trump left office in January 2021, the number of apprehensions was around 75,000.

The decline in illegal border crossings had been dropping steadily since the spring and accelerated after Mr. Biden issued a  proclamation  on June 4 banning most migrants from seeking asylum at the U.S.-Mexico border. Officials have also said scorching summer temperatures and Mexico's efforts to stop migrants have contributed to the drop.

Yearly apprehensions at the U.S. southern border also reached record highs during Mr. Biden's term, according to the  data . In fiscal year 2023, the number reached 2.2 million. The number of yearly apprehensions under Trump peaked at around 852,000 in the fiscal year 2019.

Fact check: Joe Biden’s fiery speech on Day 1 of 2024 Democratic National Convention

Here are fact checks of statements from biden and a range of speakers at the convention’s first night.

speech on health and fitness day

CHICAGO — President Joe Biden, in an often fiery speech, addressed a Democratic convention for which, until just a few weeks earlier, he had expected to be the one accepting his party’s nomination.

The audience in the United Center was appreciative, interrupting Biden with chants of “Thank you, Joe.”

With his address, Biden outlined his purpose to the party: pass the torch to a new leader. Biden’s vice president, Kamala Harris, became the party’s nominee after Biden announced in July that he would cede the nomination he had already clinched, following age-related concerns visible in his June 27 debate performance against former President Donald Trump.

Biden focused his address on threats to democracy from extremism, at times raising his voice in anger. “We came together in 2020 to save democracy,” he said.

Harris made a surprise trip to the lectern earlier in the evening, speaking briefly and garnering  thunderous applause. “When we fight,” Harris started to say, before the crowd completed the phrase, “we win.”

Shortly after an energetic speech from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, 2016 presidential nominee Hillary Clinton praised Biden. Alluding to Harris’ status as the second woman ever to head a Democratic ticket, Clinton name-checked other pioneering Democratic women, including presidential candidate Shirley Chisholm in the 1970s and vice presidential nominee Geraldine Ferraro in the 1980s.

Multiple speakers during the hourslong program criticized Trump-era policies, including the Supreme Court appointments that enabled the overturning of the abortion decision Roe v. Wade, by repeating the slogan, “We’re not going back.”

Here are fact-checks of statements by a range of speakers at the convention’s first night.

Biden: “And you know, Trump will do everything to ban abortion nationwide.”

Since April, Trump has repeatedly said he believes abortion legislation should be “left up to the states.” Trump also told reporters in April that he wouldn’t sign a national ban.

As president, Trump endorsed a 20-week national abortion ban that House Republicans backed. Earlier in this election year, he floated support for 15- or 16-week federal abortion bans, news outlets reported.

Trump hasn’t said whether he supports other ways abortion could be restricted across the country, including using the Comstock Act to ban mailing abortion pills or other equipment used in abortion procedures.

DNC video advertisement: Trump said, “There has to be some form of punishment” for women who have abortions.

Mostly False .

Trump made this comment during a March 2016 MSNBC town hall, but the ad failed to acknowledge that Trump walked back the comment the same day after facing criticism. He said it was doctors, not women, who should be punished for performing outlawed abortions.

In the years since he made that statement, we found no evidence that Trump has repeated it or that he currently supports penalties for women who get abortions.

Health care

Biden: “Instead of paying $400 a month for insulin, seniors with diabetes will pay $35 a month.”

Half True .

The Inflation Reduction Act, which Biden signed in 2022, capped out-of-pocket insulin costs at $35 a month for Medicare enrollees starting in 2023.

Drug pricing experts  told PolitiFact  that most Medicare enrollees likely were not paying $400 a month before these changes, and research supports that. One  government estimate  found that people with diabetes enrolled in Medicare or private insurance paid an average of $452 a year — not a month. Uninsured users, however, paid more than twice as much on average for the drug, or about $996 annually.

Costs and other factors vary, experts said, so it is possible that some Medicare enrollees might have paid that much in a given month.

Biden: “Trump wants to cut Social Security and Medicare.”

Mostly False  for Social Security and  Mostly False  for Medicare.

In his earlier campaigns and before he was a politician, Trump said about a half dozen times that he’s open to major overhauls of Social Security, including cuts and privatization.

More recently,  in a March 2024 CNBC interview , Trump said of entitlement programs such as Social Security: “There’s a lot you can do in terms of entitlements, in terms of cutting.” However, he quickly walked that statement back, and his CNBC comment stands at odds with essentially everything else Trump has said during the 2024 presidential campaign.

Trump’s campaign website  says  that not “a single penny” should be cut from Social Security.

On Medicare, Trump has said during the 2024 presidential campaign that he will not cut the health care program for seniors.

During his presidency, Trump released four successive annual budgets that proposed cutting Medicare. However, experts are divided on how much those cuts would have hurt beneficiaries had they been enacted.

Immigration

Biden: “The result of the executive action I took: Border encounters have dropped over 50%. In fact, there are fewer border crossings today than when Donald Trump left office.”

Mostly True.

Biden’s data needs context. Illegal border crossings in July were lower than in December 2020, Trump’s last full month in office.

But experts caution against attributing changes in immigration to a single policy. The executive action, which limits people’s ability to apply for asylum at the southwest border, took effect in June, so it’s unclear whether the declining trend will continue.

In July, Border Patrol  encountered  migrants crossing between ports of entry at the U.S.-Mexico border about 56,408 times, a 52% drop from the approximately 117,900 in May.

From October 2020 to January 2021 — Trump’s last few months in office — Border Patrol encountered immigrants illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border about 71,200 times, on average. In December, Trump’s last full month in office, there were 71,140 encounters.

Crime rates

Biden: “On (Trump’s) watch the murder rate went up 30%, the biggest increase in history.”

The number of murders in the U.S. rose by 5,795 from 2019 to 2020, when Trump was president. That’s a jump of about 35%, making it the largest one-year increase since such data began being systematically recorded in the early 1960s.

However, crime data analysts generally attribute most of the reason for the murder spike to a confluence of the coronavirus pandemic and the social upheaval following George Floyd’s murder, not Trump’s actions.

Biden: The average semiconductor industry salary “will be over $100,000 a year, and you don’t need a college degree.”

Mostly False .

The average salary in the semiconductor industry is around $170,000, according to the Semiconductor Industry Association, a trade group, and Oxford Economics. This figure includes all jobs within the industry and not only those that don’t require a college degree.

The most a person makes without a four-year degree is about $70,000, according to a 2021 report from the Semiconductor Industry Association and Oxford Economics.

Biden: During his tenure there has been the “smallest racial wealth gap in 20 years.”

Biden referred to 2022 Federal Reserve data that showed a modest decrease in the wealth ratio between white and Black Americans. For every $100 the average white family had in wealth, the average Black family had $15.75.

That was the smallest gap in 20 years. However, economists use two measures to assess the racial wealth gap. By a different measure — the dollar amount difference in wealth — the gap widened between white and Black Americans to its largest disparity since 1989.

Biden: “We have 1,000 billionaires in America. You know what their average tax rate (is)? 8.2%.”

Today, the richest Americans pay an effective tax rate of more than 20% on the income the government counts under the current tax code. Biden’s 8% figure compares their tax payments with an amount that includes income that is not currently taxed under law. This makes it a theoretical figure, not something anyone is supposed to pay under the law.

Trump and the rule of law

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton: Trump “fell asleep at his own trial, and when he woke up, he made his own kind of history: the first person to run for president with 34 felony convictions.”

It’s  unclear whether Trump fell asleep  during the Manhattan trial that ended with the former president found guilty on all counts. The New York Times’ Maggie Haberman  reported  that Trump “appeared to nod off a few times, his mouth going slack and his head drooping onto his chest.” But Trump and his team have rebutted the he-was-sleeping claims.

Trump was found guilty on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in a scheme to cover up a hush money payment to adult film actor Stormy Daniels before the 2016 presidential election.

The U.S. Constitution  doesn’t prevent Trump  from running for president following his conviction. Convicted felons have run for president in the past.

U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md.: Trump calls for “the termination of all rules, regulations and articles, even those in the Constitution.”

In 2022, Trump  said on Truth Social  that election fraud could be the basis for the “termination” of rules found in the U.S. Constitution. We rated Trump’s statement  Pants on Fire .

“A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution. Our great ‘Founders’ did not want, and would not condone, False & Fraudulent Elections!” Trump wrote.

There is no mechanism for the “termination” of constitutional rules because of undesired election results.

Days later Trump sought to walk back his words,  posting again on Truth Social , “The Fake News is actually trying to convince the American People that I said I wanted to ‘terminate’ the Constitution,” and called it “disinformation and lies.”

Project 2025

U.S. Rep. Joyce Beatty, D-Ohio: Sen. J.D. Vance has “been busy writing the foreword to the book from the Project 2025 guy.”

In June, before Trump selected him as his running mate, Vance, R-Ohio,  wrote on X  that he was “thrilled to write the foreword” for Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts’ forthcoming book, “Dawn’s Early Light.” Marketing materials for the book also feature Vance’s name on the cover as foreword author.

The Heritage Foundation led Project 2025 and Roberts, who has promoted the work, has often been described as the project’s leader and architect. The Trump-Vance campaign has sought to distance itself from Project 2025, and Vance has said Roberts speaks neither for him nor the campaign.

Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill.: “Want to have a child, but need IVF? Too bad. That’s shut down, too (under Trump).”

In February, the Alabama Supreme Court  ruled  that frozen embryos should be considered children, prompting some  clinics  in the state to pause in vitro fertilization treatments. After backlash, Alabama lawmakers  passed legislation  to shield IVF providers from civil or criminal liability and clinics resumed treatment.

Some Republicans in Congress say they believe life begins at conception, and that fertilized eggs should be granted full rights and legal protections. But Trump hasn’t embraced that position.

On April 8, Trump released a  video  on his abortion position in which he said that abortion legislation should be left to the states and that he supports making it “easier” for families to have babies, not harder. “That includes supporting the availability of fertility treatments, like IVF, in every state in America,” Trump said. “I strongly support the availability of IVF for couples who are trying to have a precious baby.”

The  Republican National Committee’s 2024 platform , written by appointees of the RNC and the Trump campaign, supports states establishing fetal personhood through the Constitution’s  14th Amendment . (Trump doesn’t include this on his  core promises list .) If established by legislation, fetal personhood would provide legal rights to embryos and fetuses and could curtail the practice of IVF, experts say.

COVID-19 pandemic

U.S. Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Calif.: “While schools closed, and dead bodies filled morgues, Donald Trump downplayed the virus. He told us to inject bleach into our bodies.”

At a 2020 White House press briefing, Trump asked William Bryan, a Department of Homeland Security undersecretary, to study whether ultraviolet light could be effective “inside the body” to treat COVID-19 or whether disinfectants could combat the virus “by injection inside.”

After Bryan said his lab did not study disinfectant injection, Trump clarified that using disinfectants “would not be through injection.” Trump  later told reporters  he was being “sarcastic” when referring to injections.

Garcia’s statement contains an element of truth; Trump did suggest studying these possibilities. However, Trump never instructed Americans to inject disinfectants to combat COVID-19.

PolitiFact chief correspondent Louis Jacobson, senior correspondent Amy Sherman, staff writers Samantha Putterman, Sara Swann, Loreben Tuquero and Maria Ramirez Uribe contributed to this story.

Our convention fact-checks rely on both new and previously reported work. We link to past work whenever possible. In some cases, a fact-check rating may be different tonight than in past versions. In those cases, either details of what the candidate said, or how the candidate said it, differed enough that we evaluated it anew.
