Best Colleges for Web Development Degree Programs

We gathered a big batch of data from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) and analyzed it with our eight-point methodology to figure out which institutions across the country could be called the top ten schools for Web development. Click the button below to see just how we calculated the rankings, and read on to find out where the best colleges for Web development degree programs can be found.

Full Sail University is one of the nation's top schools for Web development degree programs. This for-profit, nationally accredited university also features an open enrollment policy, meaning that standardized test scores and past academic performance won't prevent you from being admitted.

The Web development degree plan at Full Sail is structured as a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) program that splits its time between Web development and Web design. Students who attend the fully online version of the program can expect to spend 29 months of full-time study, while the campus-based program typically requires a full-time investment of just 20 months.

Students at Fountainhead College of Technology in Knoxville, Tennessee, seem to have embraced the digital learning paradigm, at least according to the numbers. The NCES reports that 100 percent of students at this for-profit school were enrolled in at least some online coursework in 2015. Fountainhead also posted the No. 1 graduation rate among schools that made our list.

Although Fountainhead doesn't currently offer a degree plan tailored specifically toward Web development, its programs in computer programming and software application development approach the type of skillset that Web developers need to succeed. Both programs can be taken either on campus or online, although the online computer programming degree is a two-year associate plan rather than a four-year bachelor's.

The Web development program at East Coast Polytechnic Institute, commonly known as ECPI University, comes packaged as a specialization track within the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in computer and information science with a major in software development. The curriculum focuses on technical aspects of Web development such as object-oriented programming, interface design, database integration, Linux administration and more.

Campus-based students at ECPI who need some schedule flexibility may be able to attend some courses at night or on weekends, and alternative tuition payment plans are available for those who need some financial flexibility as well. Just four other schools on our list had higher distance education enrollment rates than this Virginia Beach school.

The student-faculty ratio at the New England Institute of Technology was 13:1 in 2015, which suggests that you're likely to have access to individualized instructional and advisory time from professors and staff. The average student-faculty ratio in 2016 was 16:1, according to a study done by U.S. News and World Report.

The program for aspiring Web developers at NEIT can be taken at either the associate or bachelor's level and takes more of a media-focused approach than some other degree plans in the discipline. The B.S. program in graphics, multimedia and Web design covers search engine optimization, logo design, animation, Web video, user interface design and Web content management systems.

This medium-small private institution in Gunnison, Colorado, ranked No. 2 among schools on our list for the affordability of its average cost of tuition and fees. According to the NCES, students paid an average of less than $8,500 for the year in 2015.

Students at Western who want to go into Web development after graduation can earn a degree in computer science, which covers many of the same subjects that are often taught in dedicated Web development programs. Coursework includes database management systems, programming languages and two sections of Web applications development, as well as an optional track that covers computer networking and software engineering.

The B.S. degree in Web design at the University of Advancing Technology offers a curriculum that has one foot on the aesthetic side of Web work and the other planted firmly in the technical details. Courses in typography, layout design, digital asset creation and 2D animation are taught alongside sections in Java programming, user experience design and Web technologies.

If you're shopping for online Web development degrees, don't overlook the B.S. in advancing computer science that's available at UAT. This 120-credit bachelor's program contains coursework in dynamic website building, advanced Web programming and mobile platform software development.

Neumont College of Computer Science, a fully campus-based institution in Salt Lake City, Utah, posted the No. 3 graduation rate among schools that made our top ten and had higher percentage of Web development students among its graduates than any other school in the country. More than half of the degrees completed at Neumont in 2015 were Web development degrees.

The B.S. in Web design and development at Neumont focuses on blending the artistic and scientific elements of the discipline, aiming to provide a software development degree that also teaches you how to design the layout and interface. Instruction in coding languages like JavaScript and HTML5 is mixed with training in graphic design tools and project management techniques.

Just two other schools in our top ten reported a lower average rate of tuition and fees than the Madison, Wisconsin, campus of Herzing University. The degrees for Web developers at Herzing consist of a B.S. and an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in software development, with a computer programming concentration available for bachelor's students.

Herzing also offers online degrees for Web development students, providing its software development degrees in the virtual classroom as well as on campus. The bachelor's degrees are designed as three-year programs, taking just 36 months of full-time enrollment to complete, while the associate program typically takes 20 months of full-time study.

Our No. 9 school had the distinction of charging the lowest average tuition and fees cost of any school on our list. Students at Farmingdale State College paid an average amount of just over $7,800 in 2015, which works out to less than half as costly as the average calculated across all of our top schools.

The B.S. in computer programming and information systems at Farmingdale covers some important topics in Web development, such as database systems and Java programming. The Web track of the degree further enhances the online focus, including advanced website development and training in vital Web languages like JavaScript, jQuery and XML.

Learn how to design effective and engaging websites .

Use the power of HTML, CSS and JavaScript to harness your web design abilities and skills in creating mobile-friendly websites. Learn current web design techniques using cost-effective design tools, the power of web-based tools and modern open-source web design applications.

You will learn to design responsive websites that provide engaging interactions and experiences. You will gain the skills you need to develop mobile friendly websites using the latest open source applications, tools and technologies.

In this program you will:

• Expand your web design talents and competencies by learning the best practices of Web Design. • Learn to create, manipulate and integrate images into your websites. • Create well-designed websites with content critical to your target audience. • Learn how to gather website data and use it with readily available and cost-effective web analytical tools. • Delve into practical design, accessibility and performance testing of websites. • Learn how to conduct website testing on mobile devices and desktop browsers.

A Web Design Core Certificate will be awarded upon completion of the five core courses.

How do i apply/register.

Except for our Academic Upgrading and ESL programs, you do not need to apply to get started. If you would like to join us for courses, you can enrol yourself through our website and complete your fee payment by VISA/MasterCard credit or debit card.

You can proceed to the course page and select “Add to Cart” beside the course dates of your choice. You will complete your payment once you are signed into your account. A video walkthrough of this process is available at www.nait.ca/register

When is the deadline to register?

This can vary depending on the course or program. Some courses may have specific registration deadlines, which will be noted under View Course Information.

Space is limited, and our courses can fill up well before the scheduled start date. For best results, we recommend enrolling as soon as you are able. If the Add to Cart button is available on the website, you are welcome to enrol.

I am trying to sign up, but the shopping cart says “already enrolled in course, add not processed.” What do I do now?

You may have begun and not finished the checkout process in the last 24 hours. The course is on your MyNAIT portal waiting for secure online payment to confirm your seat in the class.

Please log in to your MyNAIT portal complete online payment through Self Service.

I've been added to a waitlist. What does this mean?

If a course you wish to take says Add to Waitlist instead of Add to Cart, that means that there are no open seats for registration for that section.

You can add yourself to the waitlist at no charge for a chance to be enrolled if space becomes available. If you are enrolled from the waitlist, you will receive an email notice advising you to visit your student portal to make a payment.

Where possible, we recommend enrolling yourself in a different section with available space to ensure you can still complete the course even if you are not enrolled from the waitlist into your preferred section.

Do I need a NAIT student account to sign up for Continuing Education classes? How do I make one?

Yes, you do need a NAIT student account to sign up for Continuing Education classes.

If you are new to NAIT, we recommend creating a NAIT account on the MyNAIT portal. When you are asked for a NAIT ID number, leave the space blank if you have not attended or applied to NAIT before, and our system will generate a new Student ID for you.

Once your account has been made, you can search for a course and add it to your cart. You will complete your payment once you are signed into your account with your new username and password.  More details including a video walkthrough of this process is available at  www.nait.ca/register

Funding Options

How much does it cost.

NAIT has a flexible payment option for continuing education classes. 10% of the cost is due upon enrolment (as well as material fees if applicable). The remainder of tuition is due 30 days prior to class start date.

What are my funding and payment options?

To be eligible for a refund, you must drop your course at least 10 calendar days before the class start date.

Are there other fees for textbooks, memberships, hardware or equipment? If so, is it something I buy from NAIT, and how?

If textbooks, materials or software are required for an individual course, it will be noted in the course details. If software or other costs apply to a whole program, it will be listed in the program overview.

Most textbooks can be purchased directly from Shop at NAIT . The program area will provide further directions if your course requires textbooks, software or other materials that need to be purchased elsewhere.

An organization (employer or community organization) wants to pay for my Continuing Education courses by invoice. How do we set this up?

Please submit a Third Party Sponsorship form for Continuing Education courses.

This document needs to clearly identify the student, the course(s) requested, the start dates for each course requested, and the contact information of the sponsoring organization and invoicing contact. Once complete, submit the forms online .

Courses, certificates and transfer credits

I have registered for a packaged program/certificate. can i transfer from the pre-determined course dates to other dates, block enrolment purchase.

This option is designed for students seeking a structured schedule. A discounted rate is granted for the commitment to this structure. By choosing a block purchase, you secure a spot in a predefined set of classes scheduled back-to-back over a specific period. This option is for students who can commit to a fixed schedule without the need for adjustments based on personal or professional conflicts.

Requirements and Commitment:

  • Fixed Schedule: When you opt for a block purchase, you are committing to the schedule as it is set. The schedule has been carefully designed to maximize learning outcomes and cohort progression.
  • Block Discount: The block discount is offered as an incentive for your commitment to the entire program schedule.
  • No Schedule Changes: Please be aware that the block purchase agreement does not allow for schedule changes once the program begins. This policy is in place to ensure the integrity of the learning experience for all students.
  • Recommendation for Flexibility: If you anticipate the need for a flexible schedule due to work or personal commitments, we strongly advise considering our open enrolment classes. Open enrolment allows you to create a personalized schedule that can adapt to your individual needs, without the commitment to a fixed schedule.

How are Continuing Education certificates issued to students?

Students who successfully complete all required courses in the certificate of their choice will receive a digital credential. NAIT will automatically issue your digital certification through our MyCreds system, and you will receive an email notification once your credential is ready. Credentials typically take up to 10 business days to be processed after all grades are officially posted.

How do I withdraw from a non-credit course?

I want to apply for transfer credit, what is the process.

If you have previous post-secondary education and want to apply for transfer credit, you must first be accepted into a credit program and have paid your non-refundable tuition deposit.

Transfer credit is granted as per the guidelines and process outlined  here . Please note that processing times for transfer credit is 4-6 weeks, so we encourage you to apply as early as possible.  

To apply for transfer credit, please log into your MyNAIT portal account and select Open Self-Service. Once in Self-Service, select Academic Records>Transfer Credits>Apply for Transfer Credits. Please follow the prompts, make the required payment, and click submit . If you do not click on the submit button, your transfer credit application will not be received by NAIT.   

To monitor your transfer credit application, under the same section Self-Service, select Monitor Application Status. You can also locate the step-by-step Transfer Credit Application guide under the Self-Service Guide on the portal.

What are the prior knowledge and skill expectations (prerequisites) for Continuing Education courses?

The expectations before joining any of our programs will vary for each course and certificate. We will list prerequisites or recommended prior knowledge for each certificate on the program landing page, and for individual courses in the course information.

You can view individual course information by either clicking the course title or the View Course Information option under the course title.

Is there a recommended order to take each course in the certificate?

Most program areas list the courses in the recommended order and include any prerequisite information in the course Information description. If a course is listed as a pre-requisite, you would need to have completed the prerequisite to be able to register.

If a course is listed as recommended you can enrol without having the prerequisite on your record, which we only recommend doing if you have mastered the content of the recommended course through other work experience or education.

How long does it take to finish this program? Do I have a time limit?

Many Continuing Education programs are relatively short, and you have the benefit of taking individual courses as fit your schedule and budget.

Use the drop-down menu of dates beside the add to cart button to pick out a schedule that works for you. We recommend completing most programs within 1-2 years wherever possible to help you maintain connections in your learning from course to course.

Can I get credit towards this credential for experience or past coursework?

Many programs will accept previous experience or coursework.

There is a fee and formal application process for transfer credit for previous course work or work experience. Learn more about transfer and credit options .

Technology Requirements

What are the technology requirements for virtual classes.

  • Access to a personal computer running Windows 8.1 or 10/11 operating system with minimum 4GB of system memory (8 GB highly recommended) and must have administrator rights to install applications.
  • Microsoft Office 365 or Office 2019/2021. Education version of Microsoft Office 365 is available for all current NAIT students .
  • Students can contact NAIT Information and Technology Services for help and support
  • High speed internet connection
  • Microphone, speaker or headset and webcam
  • Dual monitor display is highly recommended

The course description says “Mac, Chromebook or tablets are not supported." What are my options to attend virtual courses?

The statement about Windows vs. Mac is for classes that are taught on computers running Windows.

The instructor will be using a Windows operating system for these courses and will not be able to allocate instructional time navigating or troubleshooting differences between Mac/Windows OS.

Some students are comfortable doing that type of troubleshooting themselves, but there may also be software compatibility concerns for your individual course and the instructor will not able to provide direct technical support should you choose to proceed against the program’s recommendation.

What is Moodle, and how do I use it?

Moodle is the learning platform we use for many of our online courses.

If your course will be delivered through Moodle, you can access it by clicking the Moodle button right in your  MyNAIT portal  account. You will find your course linked in Moodle on the scheduled start date.

Web Developer

Credit credentials

A credit credential includes courses with post-secondary credit applied.

These credits will be used towards your specific program and may be accepted towards a credential at SAIT or a different post-secondary institution.

The credit credentials include a bachelor's degree, applied degree, diploma, certificate and post-diploma certificate.

Bachelor Degree

SAIT has bachelor's degree programs in business, construction, and hospitality and tourism management.

Bachelor's degrees are generally four-year programs, but you have up to 10 academic years to complete your courses.

Applied Degree

SAIT's full-time applied degree programs involve one year of study through classes and lab work followed by one year of directed studies in a workplace setting. This builds on the completion of a recognized two-year diploma, which you must have to be admitted to an applied degree program.

You then have seven academic years to finish your applied degree, starting from the day you begin the first course in that program.

At SAIT, over 40 full-time diploma programs cover a broad range of areas, from aircraft maintenance to travel and tourism.

Most diploma programs are completed in two years, though you can take up to seven academic years to complete the requirements.

Certificate

SAIT has several certificate programs in the sciences, health and trades.

These programs provide the essential skills to start a career but are shorter in length than SAIT's diploma programs - usually a year or less. However, you have up to five years to complete your program.

Post-Diploma Certificate

These programs build on skills developed through a diploma or degree program and combine classroom instruction with a workplace practicum.

They are often completed in a year or less.

Journeyperson

A certified journeyperson is recognized as a qualified and skilled person in a trade and is entitled to the wages and benefits associated with that trade. You must complete all apprenticeship periods and pass the exams to earn a journeyperson designation.

Non-credit credentials

A non-credit credential comprises courses and programs designed for professional or personal development.

Because these do not have post-secondary credits attached, they cannot be used towards any of the credentials above. We also cannot guarantee an external institute will accept these courses or credentials for transfer credit.

SAIT's non-credit certificates of achievement and completion are offered through Continuing Education and Professional Studies .

Certificate of Achievement

Certificates of achievement recognize the completion of a program that includes a formal evaluation of performance and a minimum of 144 (required and elective) course hours.

Certificates of achievement typically develop broader, complex skill sets. As of July 1, 2022, you have up to three years to complete the certificate. If you began these programs before July 1, 2022, you still have five calendar years to complete the program from when you began the first course.

Certificate of Completion

Certificates of completion recognize the completion of a program that includes a formal evaluation of performance and a minimum of 30 to a maximum of 143 course hours.

These certificates are shorter in duration than certificates of achievement and offer a focused education program. As of July 1, 2022, you have up to three years to complete the certificate. If you began before July 1, 2022, you will have five calendar years to complete the program from when you began the first course.

Professional Certificate

Program certificates recognize completion of a program that includes the formal evaluation of performance, and that is a minimum of one year in length.

These certificates have program-specific admission requirements.

Micro-credential

A micro-credential recognizes the completion of a non-credit course that includes a formal performance evaluation and verifies you have demonstrated specific competencies.

Micro-credentials focus on the mastery of specific skills. You receive a digital, shareable badge upon completing a SAIT micro-credential (SAITMicro).

Program length

Estimated program length if you study full-time (nine or more credits per semester.) Actual program length will vary based on the number of courses you are registered in and successfully complete per semester.

You must complete your credential within the timeframes listed below:

  • Applied degree: up to seven academic years to complete all courses.
  • Diploma: up to seven academic years to complete all courses.
  • Certificates: up to five academic years to complete all courses.

The location (also known as delivery mode) is where your classes will take place. For programs with multiple locations, some delivery options may not be offered in every intake or semester.

You'll take all your classes in person on the specified campus.

You'll take all your classes online.

You'll take some classes in person at the specified campus and others online.

This program accepts international applicants and meets the eligibility criteria for the Post-Graduation Work Permit program as long as the student is enrolled in the on-campus delivery mode or completes more than 50% of the courses on campus (for the blended option).

International students attending all classes online will NOT be eligible for a Post-Graduate Work Permit. International students are responsible for maintaining their eligibility throughout their studies.

This program is available to international applicants , however, program availability may be limited. This program does not meet the eligibility criteria for the Post-Graduation Work Permit program.

This program only accepts international applicants if taken as part of a program bundle - two programs taken consecutively. Find available bundles that include this program under specialized intakes in the program overview.

If you complete both programs in the bundle, you will be eligible for a post-graduation work permit for up to three years.

As a student, you’ll:

  • gain expertise in website design and creation, from the basics to advanced techniques 
  • learn how to design and construct websites that are not only visually appealing but also easy for users to navigate
  • delve into social media integration, multimedia elements, e-commerce integration, web analytics, design tools and techniques
  • explore the world of consulting services, rounding out your skill set. 

This intensive program requires a significant commitment of time and energy. You’ll need to make your education a priority throughout.  As a graduate, you’ll be equipped to take on roles in web development, from crafting user-friendly websites for clients to realizing your entrepreneurial vision. Join us and embark on your journey to becoming a proficient web developer and digital innovator. Get ready to contribute to creating and improving tools that drive the online universe.

Due to the tight integration of the courses in this program, credit for prior learning is not available.

  • attention to detail to avoid errors that cost time and money
  • the ability to interpret user needs

  • interpersonal and teamwork skills.

Practicum, co-op and work integrated learning

You will participate in an off-site practicum at a participating corporation or business, giving you a realistic taste of what it is like to work in the technology industry and the opportunity to make connections with potential future employers. 

Credentials

Upon successfully completing this program, you’ll be awarded a SAIT Web Developer certificate.

Progression

You must attain a PGPA and/or a CGPA of 2.0 or better each semester and pass the prerequisite courses to progress through the program.

To qualify for graduation, you must pass all courses, attain a CGPA of 2.0 or better and complete course requirements within the prescribed timelines.

Applicants educated in Canada

All applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency and meet the following requirements or equivalents.

  • at least 60% in English Language Arts 30-1 or 30-2 or equivalent OR
  • a minimum of two years of post-secondary education from a recognized university, institute, or college.

SAIT accepts high school course equivalents for admission for applicants educated outside Alberta.

Applicants educated outside of Canada

All applicants who were educated outside of Canada must demonstrate English Language proficiency and provide proof they meet the program admission requirements with an international document assessment. Find out what educational documents are accepted and assessment options .

Your fees are calculated based on the number of course credits you take per semester (approximately 16 weeks of study). Software Developer

Introduction to web development.

This course introduces students to the hands-on, project-based approach of the Software Developer program. Students begin developing their coding skills by building responsive websites, including a portfolio to display images, descriptions, and links to the projects created throughout the program.

JavaScript Basics

Students will develop basic JavaScript skills through hands-on experiences and will showcase their abilities by solving a variety of programming problems and building interactive web versions of Tic-Tac-Toe and the classic game ‘Concentration’.

Object Oriented JavaScript

Students will build on their existing JavaScript skills, exploring JavaScript objects, prototypes and classes. Students will also be introduced to new syntax and features added to the JavaScript language as part of the ES6 specification. Putting all this together, students will construct and control player characters and enemies to recreate the classic arcade game ‘Frogger’ and a Budget Calculator app.

Tools and Automation

Navigating around a computer using a shell is a necessary skill for all software developers and keeping source code safe is just as important. In this course students will learn the basics of using the shell and securely managing their source code using Git, a popular source control application. Finally, students will leverage their new-found shell knowledge and build their own tools and scripts to help optimize their development workflow.

Unit Testing in .Net

In this course, students will learn how to create a separate project to test their code and use the capabilities of different testing frameworks in .Net to make sure the code is working as expected.

Introduction to Third-party API's

Students will develop applications that integrate with a variety of existing third-party services to provide unique functionality. Students will work with Geolocation APIs, Geocoding APIs and the Winnipeg Transit API to develop an app that identifies the best route to a destination, and work with The Movie Database API to build an app that determines current trending movies.

Technical Writing Skills

This course focuses on the development of technical writing skills for IT professionals. Students will develop the language skills needed for effective communication with colleagues and clients. Students learn to create documents and use online tools that are required for success in the Software Developer program, as well as in the workplace.

Communication and Presentation Skills

This course focuses on the communication skills that are necessary to be successful in a professional workplace environment. The course will primarily focus on speaking and listening skills, such as using diplomatic language, being clear and concise, giving and receiving constructive criticism, making and responding to requests, using appropriate levels of formality, and demonstrating active listening skills. A significant part of the course will be spent on creating and delivering effective presentations to a variety of audiences for various purposes. Other topics will include: cultural communication differences, the effective use of current technology for professional communication, and positive collaboration to achieve the goals of a group.

Introduction to LINQ and ASP.Net MVC

Students will learn the fundamentals of Web development using ASP.Net MVC (Model, View, Controller) through examples of real-world systems and effective ways of organizing code. This course will also introduce LINQ, the set of technologies based on the integration of query capabilities directly into the C# language.

Object- Oriented Programming Fundamentals

The course will cover OOP fundamentals, including classes, objects and OOP principles with real world examples of different OOP designs. Students will also learn important aspects such as reference and values types, and relations between classes. The course uses C# to implement the code but the knowledge gained from this course is meant to be generic for most modern OOP languages.

Relational Database Design

This course will focus on creating databases using SQL Server, relations between tables, and writing simple queries, which students will use in future projects. Students will also learn how to write complicated GET and POST functions inside an MVC project.

Advanced Database and ORM Concepts

Students will explore in-depth details of databases, stored procedures, entity framework code-first and advanced LINQ queries. A major part of this course includes a simulated a day at work, where they are challenged to finish a task in a new language and environment (php and MySQL). Students will use problem-solving skills to quickly search and find solutions to on their own.

Advanced Topics in C#

Students will learn advanced topics in C#, including more code-first aspects, serialization, IO, events, and web services. Students will also use project management fundamentals to work through group projects effectively, including task distribution, tracking, and meeting deadlines.

Algorithms and Data Structures

This course will review the basics of C#, .Net framework and Visual Studio, and present logical problems for students to solve. Students will learn different data structures in C# such as Arrays, Lists, Dictionaries, Hash Sets, Stacks and Queues and be challenged with many different problems using those structures. Students will also explore code complexity by writing an algorithm, and then measuring its speed and optimizing it.

Introduction to Number Systems and Desktop Applications

Students will learn different number systems in computers including Binary, Decimal, Hexadecimal, and how to represent and convert numbers between those systems. Students will also learn the basics of C# Desktop programming, creating a desktop application for a calculator, using the knowledge they gained in the previous classes.

Software Engineering and Design Patterns

Students will learn different design patterns and the best ways to build scalable, maintainable, testable systems. Students will explore patterns in detail, and learn what makes one design better than another.

Personal Brand and Career Management

Students will learn the importance of developing and managing their personal brand, and develop strategies for transitioning successfully into their desired future careers.

Introduction to React

This course allows students to further develop their knowledge of front-end frameworks, diving deep into React.js. Students will learn how to install and manage a React.js installation, and how to use it to create dynamic and stateful single page web-apps. Modifying existing apps and creating new apps will provide students with a well-rounded understanding of how to build applications and use them to their full potential.

Software Developer Internship

Eligible students will have the opportunity to synthesize and apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired throughout the Software Developer program in a real-world context, learn on-the-job procedures, and develop valuable job contacts. Program Overview

Humber’s Web Development graduate certificate program focuses on the development of websites and web services for multiple environments including database-driven programming, content management systems and mobile services. You will receive a combination of conceptual and practical training which will prepare you to plan, create and execute effective, efficient website design and development. Your websites will be responsive and accessible for people with disabilities.

Your work will be completed individually and in teams and will simulate the real-world work environment - honing your collaborative and teamwork skills. You will create commercial websites that apply theories of user-centered design, security, information architecture, quality assurance testing, accessibility and responsive design. This program will help you master the project management and presentation skills that are key to success in the workplace.

You will be working on websites that meet strict business and development requirements. By the end of your final semester of study, you will have developed a comprehensive personal portfolio of your competencies, and you will be able to promote your skills at your portfolio show.

At Humber, courses are delivered in a variety of formats:

In-Person - An in-person course is delivered fully on campus.

Online Asynchronous (A) - An online asynchronous course has no fixed class schedule and allows students to engage with the course at different times according to their needs. Faculty provide modules, which are completed independently by the students according to established deadlines.

Online Synchronous (S) - An online synchronous course is delivered fully online and requires faculty and students to participate in real-time according to a fixed schedule. Classes are scheduled for a specific day and time.

Hybrid - A hybrid course is a combination of in-person and online classes and follows a set schedule. Students must be available to attend in-person classes at scheduled times during the semester.

You’ll be able to select your preferred options when building your course schedule during open enrolment. Preferences for course delivery will be considered on a first come, first served basis. Within this framework, students actively participate in the Professional Practice course, equipping you with the necessary skills and confidence to secure your own field experience. In Semester 3, students immerse themselves in the Field Experience course, committing 160 hours of practical application within the field. Whether pursuing paid or unpaid opportunities, all experiences undergo approval by your career & work-integrated learning advisor to ensure relevance.

BuildingF brings marketers and agencies together with advanced students from virtually any Humber program to produce strategic creative content and technology solutions. Instead of just being given a grade for assignments, students are provided with a chance to work with real clients, on actual accounts, receiving first-hand experience in the field.

The disciplines that can be accessed through BuildingF include anything found in a modern advertising, design or PR agency, including brand experience design, communications marketing, advertising design, writing, production, and much more.

The Usability Lab is a new facility for students in the Faculty of Media, Creative Arts, and Design at Humber College. This “Live Lab” is a full-fledged usability lab where content creators can capture & assess the interaction between user and design.

This Usability Lab is specialized, in that it was purposefully built for usability studies to ensure that the environment does not interfere with the testing. Designed with flexibility at its core, it has been equipped with a broad variety of technology, supporting usability testing at many different levels of sophistication.

What makes this lab unique is the fact that it is mobile. This one-of-a-kind usability lab can be delivered to those who wish to use and evaluate our designs, as well as their own. For our students, they can participate in, and lead experiments that will truly test the designs they have developed, to make sure they work in the manner they have been designed to work.

Bernie Monette is an experienced and award winning teacher and Web developer. He has taught and done Web development for twenty plus years. Students and clients have come from all over the world. He is comfortable working anywhere but you will often find him at his kitchen table. He continues to work on incorporating stand up comedy into his practice as a teacher and developer.

Program Delivery Types

Block-based: Students select a pre-set weekly schedule of courses that best meets their needs. Block-Based schedules may include in-person, hybrid and online courses.

Course-based: Students create their own schedule of courses from among in-person, hybrid and online options.

Condensed Week - Courses requiring students to come to campus are scheduled over 2-3 days per week. Online courses are scheduled on other days.

Online - Courses are scheduled only online and may be delivered asynchronously, where students study independently or synchronously, where students attend the online class on a specified time and day.

Twilight - In-person, online synchronous and hybrid courses are generally scheduled after 3:00pm.

Twilight-Online: Online synchronous courses are generally scheduled after 3:00 pm.

Applications to Humber are made through ontariocolleges.ca . Be sure to submit your application by July 15, 2024 to receive your Application Fee Credit. Applications for September will remain open as long as the program availability status shows Open.

How To Become An Apprentice

Becoming an apprentice.

Find an employer willing to sponsor you as an apprentice.

Contact the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development to register as an apprentice.

Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP)

If you’re in high school – grade 11 or 12 – you can earn co-op education credits through work placements in some skilled trades.

Admission Requirements

Admission selection is based on the following three requirements:

To be eligible for admission, you must possess the following:

  • A bachelor’s degree, advanced diploma, diploma or equivalent

Mature Applicants

Diplomas and certificates.

An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or other postsecondary school, and will be 19 or older as of the first day of classes. Humber will invite you for testing to demonstrate that you meet all listed course requirements.

An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or attended postsecondary studies, and will be 21 or older as of the first day of classes. Mature applicants for degree programs will be required to meet course requirements at the U/M level or equivalent.

College Transfer Applicants

An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or college courses and grades to determine program eligibility.

English Language Proficiency

International Credit Evaluation

Canadian citizens or permanent residents with international education are required to provide a credential evaluation. Note, for international High school education course by course evaluations, ICAS must be used. For international post-secondary education, a WES evaluation must be provided. In situations where you expect to apply for transfer credit, it is recommended that a course by course WES evaluation is completed.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must meet the following entrance requirements for admission into the program:  

High school level diploma or an equivalent level institution worldwide 

English Language Proficiency (ELP) Requirements:   IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with at least 5.5 on each band score.    Please visit Red Deer Polytechnic's  English Language Proficiency (ELP) Requirements webpage for other methods to meet the ELP requirements. 

Additional Requirements

Learners with a computer are required to have the following minimum specifications:  

Laptop with minimum 500 GB SSD (no HDD) and 8 to 16 GB Ram  

Display: 1280 x 768 screen resolution  

Learners with a laptop are required to meet the following minimum specifications:  

11th generation Intel CPU (i5 or i7) or better (or equivalent AMD processor)  

16GB Minimum RAM (32GB Memory recommended)

13-inch 1080p screen (15 inches recommended)  

Portable hard drive (for data backup)  

Windows 10 Professional   

Program Cost

All learners should budget approximately $800 per year for classroom resources (including online textbooks and resources). Details on purchasing and accessing the required online resources will be given on the first day of class. Learners are not required to purchase resources ahead of time. 

Please Note: On January 22, 2024, Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada announced the issuance of the Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) that will need to be added to the Study Permit application for applications for programs starting Fall 2024.  Details are at: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/study-permit.html

To receive a PAL, you will need to submit a fee of $1400.00, which will be applied directly to your tuition. The balance of your tuition is due 30 days before your program start date.

Technology is undeniably the way of the future, making coding languages one of the most important second languages you can study! If you’re interested in pursuing a career in computer science, you will need strong analytical and problem-solving skills. You should also expect to be continually learning and adapting to new advances in technology throughout your career.

Suggested Courses

Most computer science programs expect applicants to have completed two of the three core sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics). You will also need to have taken Computer Science, Advanced Functions and Calculus & Vectors in Grades 11 and 12. Here is a full list of suggested OVS courses for students pursuing this pathway:

Potential Programs

Many schools offer Computer Science as both a minor and a major, or even a double major, meaning you can pair it with another related major, like Math. Schools also typically offer programs that allow you to start with the basics and specialize later on. So, whether you already know what you want to study, or you’re still unsure, remember there is a program for you out there – you just have to find it! I saw that BCIT has a “computer systems technology” diploma for software development but I do not know if that will be able to secure me a job. Somebody know?

Total Online Job Advertisements Rise to 189,600 in June

August 02, 2024

June 2024 had just under 189,600 total online job advertisements available in Michigan. This is an 8.1 percent increase from the previous month which had 175,400 ads. Over 40 percent (40.8) of the state’s June advertisements were newly posted which means they did not carry over from previous months. Of the ads that listed a minimum education requirement during the month, a high school diploma or equivalent was the most requested.

The supply and demand rate is used to measure the relationship between unemployed people (supply) and the number of available jobs (demand). In June 2024, the supply and demand rate was 1.34 which indicates there were 134 unemployed people for every 100 job advertisements in Michigan. This was an increase from June 2023 which had a rate of 0.91. 

Matching the previous month, the topmost advertised occupations in June were Registered nurses (8,500 ads), Retail salespersons (7,890 ads), and First-line supervisors of retail sales workers (4,760 ads). Coinciding with these occupations, Corewell Health, University of Michigan, and Trinity Health were the top three employers with the greatest quantity of job advertisements in June. 

Spotlight: Elementary and Secondary Schools Industry

As the start of the school year is quickly approaching, it is valuable to highlight the Elementary and secondary schools industry, which accounts for essential school administrators, counselors, and educators. This industry was one of the top 20 industries with the most advertisements in June with 2,480 total ads. This was slightly higher than the previous year which had just over 2,280 ads in June 2023.

The employer with the most job advertisements in this industry in June was National Heritage Academies, a charter school network, which had 270 postings within Michigan. Grand Rapids Public Schools followed behind with nearly 180 ads. Lansing School District had the third most ads in June with 110. Together, these three employers accounted for 22.3 percent of all Elementary and secondary school jobs posted in June. 

Within this industry, the most advertised occupations were Secondary school teachers, except special and career/technical education (390 ads); Elementary school teachers, except special education (270 ads); and Teaching assistants, except postsecondary (210 ads). A majority (60.9 percent) of advertisements in this industry listed a minimum education level, with bachelor’s degrees and high school diplomas receiving equal shares at 39.4 percent. Along with a degree or diploma, advertisements request certain certifications to ensure candidates are qualified for the position. Within the Elementary and secondary schools industry, the most requested qualifications were teaching certificate, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification, and NHA certified. 

In addition to minimum education levels, many Elementary and secondary schools industry advertisements included desired skills. The most requested skills can be categorized into three groups: common, specialized, and software skills. The most advertised common skills for the Elementary and secondary schools industry were teaching, communication, and writing. These are skills that can be applicable to a range of occupations and are typically non-specialized. The most requested specialized skills were special education, lesson planning, and individualized education programs (IEP). These are skills that are occupation-specific and often require more training than common skills. The top software skills were Microsoft Office products, PowerSchool (software), and student information systems.

Announcement of an open meeting; and update to the meeting location.

This notice sets forth the agenda, time, and instructions to access or participate in the August 6-8, 2024, virtual meeting of NACIQI, and provides information to members of the public regarding the meeting, including Start Printed Page 61100 requesting to make written or oral comments. The notice of this meeting is required under the Higher Education Act (HEA) of 1965, as amended.

The meeting will be virtual.

The virtual NACIQI meeting will be held on August 6-8, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. This notice is an update to a previous Federal Register notice dated 07/02/2024, Document Citation 89 FR 54803 , which indicated that the meeting would be hybrid.

Statutory Authority and Function: NACIQI is established under section 114 of the HEA ( 20 U.S.C. 1011c ). NACIQI advises the Secretary of Education with respect to:

  • The establishment and enforcement of the standards of accrediting agencies or associations under subpart 2, part H, Title IV of the HEA, as amended;
  • The recognition of specific accrediting agencies or associations;
  • The preparation and publication of the list of nationally recognized accrediting agencies and associations;
  • The eligibility and certification process for institutions of higher education under Title IV of the HEA, together with recommendations for improvement in such process;
  • The relationship between (1) accreditation of institutions of higher education and the certification and eligibility of such institutions, and (2) State licensing responsibilities with respect to such institutions; and
  • Any other advisory function relating to accreditation and institutional eligibility that the Secretary of Education may prescribe by regulation.

The purpose of the meeting is to conduct a review of the following applications for renewals of recognition.

1. WASC Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges. Scope of Recognition: The accreditation and pre-accreditation (“Candidate for Accreditation”) of community and other colleges which have as a primary mission the granting of associate degrees, but which may also award certificates and other credentials, not to exceed the bachelor degree level, where the provision of such credentials is within the institution's mission and, if applicable, is authorized by their governmental authorities, and the accreditation of such programs offered via distance education and correspondence education at these colleges. This recognition also extends to the Committee on Substantive Change of the Commission, for decisions on substantive changes, and the Appeals Panel. Geographic Area of Accrediting Activities: Throughout the United States.

2. American Veterinary Medical Association, Council on Education. Scope of Recognition: The accreditation and preaccreditation (“Provisional Accreditation”) in the United States of programs leading to professional degrees (D.V.M. or V.M.D.) in veterinary medicine. Geographic Area of Accrediting Activities: Throughout the United States.

3. Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training. Scope of Recognition: The accreditation throughout the United States of institutions of higher education that offer continuing education and vocational programs that confer certificates or occupational associate degrees, including those programs offered via distance education. Geographic Area of Accrediting Activities: Throughout the United States.

4. Council on Education for Public Health. Scope of Recognition: The accreditation of schools of public health and public health programs outside schools of public health, at the baccalaureate and graduate degree levels, including those offered via distance education. Geographic Area of Accrediting Activities: Throughout the United States.

5. National Association of Schools of Dance, Commission on Accreditation. Scope of Recognition: The accreditation throughout the United States of freestanding institutions that offer dance and dance-related programs (both degree and non-degree-granting), including those offered via distance education. Geographic Area of Accrediting Activities: Throughout the United States.

6. National Association of Schools of Music, Commission on Accreditation. Scope of Recognition: The accreditation throughout the United States of freestanding institutions that offer music and music related programs (both degree and non-degree-granting) including those offered via distance. This recognition also extends to the Commission on Community College Accreditation. Geographic Area of Accrediting Activities: Throughout the United States.

7. National Association of Schools of Theatre, Commission on Accreditation. Scope of Recognition: The accreditation throughout the United States of freestanding institutions that offer theatre and theatre-related programs (both degree and non-degree-granting), including those offered via distance education. Geographic Area of Accrediting Activities: Throughout the United States.

8. Puerto Rico State Agency for the Approval of Public Postsecondary Vocational, Technical Institutions and Programs. Scope of Recognition: State agency for the approval of vocational education.

9. Maryland State Board of Nursing. Scope of Recognition: State agency for the approval of nursing education.

10. New York State Board of Regents (nursing education). Scope of Recognition: State approval agency for nursing education.

To ensure sufficient time for all agency reviews, including NACIQI questions and discussion, the Department requests that the agencies limit their opening statements to 10 minutes (total for one or more statements), and that the agencies avoid extended discussions about agency representatives and their backgrounds. Following the brief opening statement, the agency's presentation should focus on the regulatory criteria, and in particular, responses to areas where the staff has recommended a finding of noncompliance or substantial compliance, or where other concerns have been raised that the agency would like to address. However, the agency should expect that questions from NACIQI members may focus on other areas.

Assistant Secretary for Postsecondary Education, Dr. Nasser Paydar, will provide an update on the Administration's postsecondary education policy priorities.

The Committee will refer to the Accreditor Dashboards for accrediting agencies up for review. These dashboards will include information about post-completion earnings and cumulative loan debt.

In addition to its review of accrediting agencies and State approval agencies for Secretarial recognition, there will be time for Committee discussions regarding any of the categories within Start Printed Page 61101 NACIQI's statutory authority in its capacity as an advisory committee.

Submission of requests to make an oral comment regarding a specific accrediting agency under review, or to make an oral comment or written statement regarding other issues within the scope of NACIQI's authority:

Opportunity to submit a written statement regarding a specific accrediting agency under review was solicited by a previous Federal Register notice published on May 3, 2023 ( 88 FR 27876 ; Document Number 2023-09362). The period for submission of such statements is now closed. Additional written statements regarding a specific accrediting agency or state approval agency under review will not be accepted at this time. However, members of the public may submit written statements regarding other issues within the scope of NACIQI's authority for consideration by NACIQI in the manner described below.

Members of the public may make oral comments regarding a specific accrediting agency under review and/or other agenda topics. Oral comments may not exceed three minutes. Oral comments about an agency's recognition when a compliance report has been required by the Senior Department Official or the Secretary must relate to the criteria for recognition cited in the Senior Department Official's letter that requested the report, or in the Secretary's appeal decision, if any. Oral comments about an agency seeking expansion of scope must be directed to the agency's ability to serve as a recognized accrediting agency with respect to the kinds of institutions or programs requested to be added. Oral comments about the renewal of an agency's recognition must relate to its compliance with the criteria for the Recognition of Accrediting Agencies, which are available at http://www.ed.gov/​admins/​finaid/​accred/​index.html .

Written statements and oral comments concerning NACIQI's work outside of a specific accrediting agency under review must be limited to matters within the scope of NACIQI's authority, as outlined under Section 114 of the HEA ( 20 U.S.C. 1011c ), and written comments of any kind submitted after the deadline will not be considered by the Department or provided to NACIQI for purposes of the current cycle review.

To request to make oral comments of three minutes or less during the August 6-8, 2024, meeting, please follow either Method One or Method Two below. To submit a written statement to NACIQI concerning its work outside a specific accrediting agency under review, please follow Method One.

Method One: Submit a request by email to the [email protected] mailbox. Please do not send material directly to NACIQI members. Written statements to NACIQI concerning its work outside of a specific accrediting agency under review and requests to make oral comment must be received by July 30, 2024, and include the subject line “Oral Comment Request: (agency name),” “Oral Comment Request: (subject)” or “Written Statement: (subject).” The email must include the name(s), title, organization/affiliation, mailing address, email address, and telephone number, of the person(s) submitting a written statement or requesting to speak. All individuals submitting an advance request in accordance with this notice will be afforded an opportunity to speak. Written statements of any kind submitted after the deadline will not be considered by the Department or provided to NACIQI for purposes of the current cycle review.

Method Two (Only available to those seeking to make oral comments): Submit a request by email on August 6, 2024, between 7:45 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. Eastern Standard Time to the [email protected] mailbox. The email must include the subject on which the requestor wishes to comment, in addition to his or her name, title, organization/affiliation, mailing address, email address, and telephone number. If you intend to make your comments by dialing into the meeting rather than using a computer, please be sure to include that information in your email request. A total of up to fifteen minutes for each agenda item will be allotted for oral commenters who register on August 6, 2024, between 7:45 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. Eastern Standard Time. Individuals will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. If selected, each commenter may not exceed three minutes.
