Undergraduate Admissions

Five steps for submitting the online application.

by Jennifer Monroe | Jan 30, 2020 | Blog

The first task for applying to UW Oshkosh is submitting the online application. Applying to college can feel intimidating, so we have assembled some info and tips for each of the five easy steps!

Through May 31, we are covering the $25 application fee for students applying to our two-year access campuses! Get started today at apply.wisconsin.edu and submit by midnight on May 31 to take advantage of this special offer.

STEP ONE : Register or log in as an existing user

Start your application at apply.wisconsin.edu and register or log in to your account. One great thing about the system application is that if you’ve already applied to a different UW System school, most of your information will be saved for any new application you submit!

STEP TWO : Create a new application

Get a new application started for UW Oshkosh. If you have one in progress for UWO, you can select it to continue where you left off.

STEP THREE : Answer a few initial questions

The first few screening questions on the application help the system know what type of applicant you are and what additional information is needed.

VERY IMPORTANT! When you get to the question for which campus you’re applying to, make sure to select either UW Oshkosh, Fond du Lac Campus or UW Oshkosh, Fox Cities Campus .

STEP FOUR : Continue with the Application

The next step is to complete the required application questions. There are 13 sections on the application, and they gather required information that helps us understand you better!

If you need to step away from your computer while working on the application, scroll all the way at the top to “Save and Exit” the application. It will save your progress for the next time you log in. The system will lock you out after 20 minutes of inactivity, so save your work to make sure you don’t lose any progress.

These are the 13 sections:

  • Personal Information: The application starts your name, Social Security Number, race, gender and citizenship.
  • Personal Information Continued: This section gathers any affiliation with military service.
  • Address: Provide your current address and how long you’ve lived there.
  • High School Education: Indicate the type of high school diploma you will earn or have already earned (traditional, homeschool, GED) and dates that you took (or will take) the ACT or SAT.
  • High School of Graduation: Choose your high school by clicking the red “Add/Edit” button. If you’ve attended more than one high school, be sure to list every school on the application. Then type in your expected date of high school graduation (month and year).
  • High School Courses in Progress: If you are currently in high school, you will need to enter the courses you’re currently taking.
  • Higher Education: List all of the colleges or universities that you have attended OR received credits from. This includes dual enrollment and CAPP credits that you’ll want to transfer to UW Oshkosh.
  • Employment:  Your employment history helps us get an idea of your experience.
  • Activities : The things you do and how you spend your time helps us understand more about you. At UW Oshkosh we have a holistic admissions approach, which means we look at more than grades and test scores! We want to know what things you enjoy doing outside of the classroom, what commitments you have and the things you are involved in.
  • UW-Oshkosh : If you’ve previously attended UWO, let us know. This is also where you’ll choose your intended major! If you’re undecided, don’t worry. More than 30% of UW Oshkosh students start as undeclared. If you’re not sure, just scroll all the way to the bottom of the list and check the box for “undecided.” You can always change your mind. This is also where you’ll write your essay.
Essay Tip 1 : Type your essay into a word document and then paste it into the application Essay Tip 2 : Keep it between 250 and 600 words. Long enough to be meaningful, but to-the-point. Essay Tip 3 : Proofread. Then proofread again. Ask a friend or teacher to ready your essay. Then proofread it again. Essay Tip 4 : Don’t stress! This is your chance to tell us about yourself.
  • Residence for Tuition Determination : Let us know if you’re a resident of Wisconsin.
  • Residency of Applicant: This section confirms whether or not you are a Wisconsin resident.
  • Residency of Parent/Guardian: This section confirms whether or not your parents/guardians are Wisconsin residents.

STEP FIVE : Submit Your Application

  • Use the system prompt to perform a final check for errors.
  • If you forgot a section or required question, you will be prompted to return to the application.
  • When no errors are found, you’ll be able to electronically “sign” the application and submit.

There is a $25 fee collected at the end of the application, but from now until May 31, UWO is covering the fee for all Fox Cities and Fond du Lac campus applicants! Just click the “Skip Payment” button, and we’ll take it from there.
