What makes a good case study presentation?

A good case study presentation has an engaging story, a clear structure, real data, visual aids, client testimonials, and a strong call to action. It informs and inspires, making the audience believe they can achieve similar results.

Dull case studies can cost you clients.

A boring case study presentation doesn't just risk putting your audience to sleep—it can actuallyl ead to lost sales and missed opportunities.

When your case study fails to inspire, it's your bottom line that suffers.

Interactive elements are the secret sauce for successful case study presentations.

They not only increase reader engagement by 22% but also lead to a whopping 41% more decks being read fully , proving that the winning deck is not a monologue but a conversation that involves the reader.

Let me show you shape your case studies into compelling narratives that hook your audience and drive revenue.

Let’s go!

How to create a case study presentation that drives results?

Crafting a case study presentation that truly drives results is about more than just data—it's about storytelling, engagement, and leading your audience down the sales funnel.

Here's how you can do it:

Tell a story: Each case study should follow a narrative arc. Start with the problem, introduce your solution, and showcase the results. Make it compelling and relatable.

Leverage data: Hard numbers build credibility. Use them to highlight your successes and reinforce your points.

Use visuals: Images, infographics, and videos can enhance engagement, making complex information more digestible and memorable.

Add interactive elements: Make your presentation a two-way journey. Tools like tabs and live data calculators can increase time spent on your deck by 22% and the number of full reads by 41% .

Finish with a strong call-to-action: Every good story needs a conclusion. Encourage your audience to take the next step in their buyer journey with a clear, persuasive call-to-action.

How to write an engaging case study presentation?

Creating an engaging case study presentation involves strategic storytelling, understanding your audience, and sparking action.

In this guide, I'll cover the essentials to help you write a compelling narrative that drives results.

What is the best format for a business case study presentation?

4 best format types for a business case study presentation:

  • Problem-solution case study
  • Before-and-after case study
  • Success story case study
  • Interview style case study

Each style has unique strengths, so pick one that aligns best with your story and audience. For a deeper dive into these formats, check out our detailed blog post on case study format types .

How to write the perfect case study

What to include in a case study presentation?

An effective case study presentation contains 7 key elements:

  • Introduction
  • Company overview
  • The problem/challenge
  • Your solution
  • Customer quotes/testimonials

To learn more about what should go in each of these sections, check out our post on what is a case study .

How to motivate readers to take action?

Based on BJ Fogg's behavior model , successful motivation involves 3 components:

This is all about highlighting the benefits. Paint a vivid picture of the transformative results achieved using your solution.

Use compelling data and emotive testimonials to amplify the desire for similar outcomes, therefore boosting your audience's motivation.

This refers to making the desired action easy to perform. Show how straightforward it is to implement your solution.

Use clear language, break down complex ideas, and reinforce the message that success is not just possible, but also readily achievable with your offering.

This is your powerful call-to-action (CTA), the spark that nudges your audience to take the next step. Ensure your CTA is clear, direct, and tied into the compelling narrative you've built.

It should leave your audience with no doubt about what to do next and why they should do it.

How to adapt your presentation for your specific audience?

Every audience is different, and a successful case study presentation speaks directly to its audience's needs, concerns, and desires.

Understanding your audience is crucial. This involves researching their pain points, their industry jargon, their ambitions, and their fears.

Then, tailor your presentation accordingly. Highlight how your solution addresses their specific problems. Use language and examples they're familiar with. Show them how your product or service can help them reach their goals.

A case study presentation that's tailor-made for its audience is not just a presentation—it's a conversation that resonates, engages, and convinces.

How to design a great case study presentation?

A powerful case study presentation is not only about the story you weave—it's about the visual journey you create.

Let's navigate through the design strategies that can transform your case study presentation into a gripping narrative.

Add interactive elements

Static design has long been the traditional route for case study presentations—linear, unchanging, a one-size-fits-all solution.

However, this has been a losing approach for a while now. Static content is killing engagement, but interactive design will bring it back to life.

It invites your audience into an evolving, immersive experience, transforming them from passive onlookers into active participants.

Which of these presentations would you prefer to read?

Static PDF example

Use narrated content design (scrollytelling)

Scrollytelling combines the best of scrolling and storytelling. This innovative approach offers an interactive narrated journey controlled with a simple scroll.

It lets you break down complex content into manageable chunks and empowers your audience to control their reading pace.

To make this content experience available to everyone, our founder, Itai Amoza, collaborated with visualization scientist Prof. Steven Franconeri to incorporate scrollytelling into Storydoc.

This collaboration led to specialized storytelling slides that simplify content and enhance engagement (which you can find and use in Storydoc).

Here’s an example of Storydoc scrollytelling:

Bring your case study to life with multimedia

Multimedia brings a dynamic dimension to your presentation. Video testimonials lend authenticity and human connection. Podcast interviews add depth and diversity, while live graphs offer a visually captivating way to represent data.

Each media type contributes to a richer, more immersive narrative that keeps your audience engaged from beginning to end. You can upload your own interactive elements or check stock image sites like Shutterstock, Adobe Stock, iStock, and many more. For example, Icons8, one of the largest hubs for icons, illustrations, and photos, offers both static and animated options for almost all its graphics, whether you need profile icons to represent different user personas or data report illustrations to show your findings.

Prioritize mobile-friendly design

In an increasingly mobile world, design must adapt. Avoid traditional, non-responsive formats like PPT, PDF, and Word.

Opt for a mobile-optimized design that guarantees your presentation is always at its best, regardless of the device.

As a significant chunk of case studies are opened on mobile, this ensures wider accessibility and improved user experience , demonstrating respect for your audience's viewing preferences.

Here’s what a traditional static presentation looks like as opposed to a responsive deck:

Streamline the design process

Creating a case study presentation usually involves wrestling with an AI website builder .

It's a dance that often needs several partners - designers to make it look good, developers to make it work smoothly, and plenty of time to bring it all together.

Building, changing, and personalizing your case study can feel like you're climbing a mountain when all you need is to cross a hill.

By switching to Storydoc’s interactive case study creator , you won’t need a tech guru or a design whizz, just your own creativity.

You’ll be able to create a customized, interactive presentation for tailored use in sales prospecting or wherever you need it without the headache of mobilizing your entire team.

Storydoc will automatically adjust any change to your presentation layout, so you can’t break the design even if you tried.

Practice with experts

Using case interview examples is a key part of your interview preparation, but it isn’t enough.

At some point you’ll want to practise with friends or family who can give some useful feedback. However, if you really want the best possible preparation for your case interview, you'll also want to work with ex-consultants who have experience running interviews at McKinsey, Bain, BCG, etc.

If you know anyone who fits that description, fantastic! But for most of us, it's tough to find the right connections to make this happen. And it might also be difficult to practice multiple hours with that person unless you know them really well.

Here's the good news. We've already made the connections for you. We’ve created a coaching service where you can do mock case interviews 1-on-1 with ex-interviewers from MBB firms . Start scheduling sessions today!

How Present a Case Study like a Pro

Okay, let’s get real: case studies can be kinda snooze-worthy. But guess what? They don’t have to be!

In this article, I will cover every element that transforms a mere report into a compelling case study, from selecting the right metrics to using persuasive narrative techniques.

And if you’re feeling a little lost, don’t worry! There are cool tools like Venngage’s Case Study Creator to help you whip up something awesome, even if you’re short on time. Plus, the pre-designed case study templates are like instant polish because let’s be honest, everyone loves a shortcut.

Click to jump ahead:

What is a case study presentation?

What is the purpose of presenting a case study, how to structure a case study presentation, how long should a case study presentation be, 5 case study presentation examples with templates, 6 tips for delivering an effective case study presentation, 5 common mistakes to avoid in a case study presentation, how to present a case study faqs.

A case study presentation involves a comprehensive examination of a specific subject, which could range from an individual, group, location, event, organization or phenomenon.

They’re like puzzles you get to solve with the audience, all while making you think outside the box.

Unlike a basic report or whitepaper, the purpose of a case study presentation is to stimulate critical thinking among the viewers.

The primary objective of a case study is to provide an extensive and profound comprehension of the chosen topic. You don’t just throw numbers at your audience. You use examples and real-life cases to make you think and see things from different angles.

case study interview slides

The primary purpose of presenting a case study is to offer a comprehensive, evidence-based argument that informs, persuades and engages your audience.

Here’s the juicy part: presenting that case study can be your secret weapon. Whether you’re pitching a groundbreaking idea to a room full of suits or trying to impress your professor with your A-game, a well-crafted case study can be the magic dust that sprinkles brilliance over your words.

Think of it like digging into a puzzle you can’t quite crack . A case study lets you explore every piece, turn it over and see how it fits together. This close-up look helps you understand the whole picture, not just a blurry snapshot.

It’s also your chance to showcase how you analyze things, step by step, until you reach a conclusion. It’s all about being open and honest about how you got there.

Besides, presenting a case study gives you an opportunity to connect data and real-world scenarios in a compelling narrative. It helps to make your argument more relatable and accessible, increasing its impact on your audience.

One of the contexts where case studies can be very helpful is during the job interview. In some job interviews, you as candidates may be asked to present a case study as part of the selection process.

Having a case study presentation prepared allows the candidate to demonstrate their ability to understand complex issues, formulate strategies and communicate their ideas effectively.

Case Study Example Psychology

The way you present a case study can make all the difference in how it’s received. A well-structured presentation not only holds the attention of your audience but also ensures that your key points are communicated clearly and effectively.

In this section, let’s go through the key steps that’ll help you structure your case study presentation for maximum impact.

Let’s get into it.

Open with an introductory overview

Start by introducing the subject of your case study and its relevance. Explain why this case study is important and who would benefit from the insights gained. This is your opportunity to grab your audience’s attention.

case study interview slides

Explain the problem in question

Dive into the problem or challenge that the case study focuses on. Provide enough background information for the audience to understand the issue. If possible, quantify the problem using data or metrics to show the magnitude or severity.

case study interview slides

Detail the solutions to solve the problem

After outlining the problem, describe the steps taken to find a solution. This could include the methodology, any experiments or tests performed and the options that were considered. Make sure to elaborate on why the final solution was chosen over the others.

case study interview slides

Key stakeholders Involved

Talk about the individuals, groups or organizations that were directly impacted by or involved in the problem and its solution.

Stakeholders may experience a range of outcomes—some may benefit, while others could face setbacks.

For example, in a business transformation case study, employees could face job relocations or changes in work culture, while shareholders might be looking at potential gains or losses.

Discuss the key results & outcomes

Discuss the results of implementing the solution. Use data and metrics to back up your statements. Did the solution meet its objectives? What impact did it have on the stakeholders? Be honest about any setbacks or areas for improvement as well.

case study interview slides

Include visuals to support your analysis

Visual aids can be incredibly effective in helping your audience grasp complex issues. Utilize charts, graphs, images or video clips to supplement your points. Make sure to explain each visual and how it contributes to your overall argument.

Pie charts illustrate the proportion of different components within a whole, useful for visualizing market share, budget allocation or user demographics.

This is particularly useful especially if you’re displaying survey results in your case study presentation.

case study interview slides

Stacked charts on the other hand are perfect for visualizing composition and trends. This is great for analyzing things like customer demographics, product breakdowns or budget allocation in your case study.

Consider this example of a stacked bar chart template. It provides a straightforward summary of the top-selling cake flavors across various locations, offering a quick and comprehensive view of the data.

case study interview slides

Not the chart you’re looking for? Browse Venngage’s gallery of chart templates to find the perfect one that’ll captivate your audience and level up your data storytelling.

Recommendations and next steps

Wrap up by providing recommendations based on the case study findings. Outline the next steps that stakeholders should take to either expand on the success of the project or address any remaining challenges.

Acknowledgments and references

Thank the people who contributed to the case study and helped in the problem-solving process. Cite any external resources, reports or data sets that contributed to your analysis.

Feedback & Q&A session

Open the floor for questions and feedback from your audience. This allows for further discussion and can provide additional insights that may not have been considered previously.

Closing remarks

Conclude the presentation by summarizing the key points and emphasizing the takeaways. Thank your audience for their time and participation and express your willingness to engage in further discussions or collaborations on the subject.

case study interview slides

Well, the length of a case study presentation can vary depending on the complexity of the topic and the needs of your audience. However, a typical business or academic presentation often lasts between 15 to 30 minutes.

This time frame usually allows for a thorough explanation of the case while maintaining audience engagement. However, always consider leaving a few minutes at the end for a Q&A session to address any questions or clarify points made during the presentation.

When it comes to presenting a compelling case study, having a well-structured template can be a game-changer.

It helps you organize your thoughts, data and findings in a coherent and visually pleasing manner.

Not all case studies are created equal and different scenarios require distinct approaches for maximum impact.

To save you time and effort, I have curated a list of 5 versatile case study presentation templates, each designed for specific needs and audiences.

Here are some best case study presentation examples that showcase effective strategies for engaging your audience and conveying complex information clearly.

Nailed your case study, but want to make your presentation even stronger? Avoid these common mistakes to ensure your audience gets the most out of it:

Stick to what’s essential and impactful. Need help making your data clear and impactful? Our data presentation templates can help! Find clear and engaging visuals to showcase your findings.

Lack of structure

Jumping haphazardly between points or topics can confuse your audience. A well-structured presentation, with a logical flow from introduction to conclusion, is crucial for effective communication.

Ignoring the audience

Different audiences have different needs and levels of understanding. Failing to adapt your presentation to your audience can result in a disconnect and a less impactful presentation.

Poor visual elements

While content is king, poor design or lack of visual elements can make your case study dull or hard to follow. Make sure you use high-quality images, graphs and other visual aids to support your narrative.

Not focusing on results

A case study aims to showcase a problem and its solution, but what most people care about are the results. Failing to highlight or adequately explain the outcomes can make your presentation fall flat.

How to start a case study presentation?

Starting a case study presentation effectively involves a few key steps:

  • Grab attention : Open with a hook—an intriguing statistic, a provocative question or a compelling visual—to engage your audience from the get-go.
  • Set the stage : Briefly introduce the subject, context and relevance of the case study to give your audience an idea of what to expect.
  • Outline objectives : Clearly state what the case study aims to achieve. Are you solving a problem, proving a point or showcasing a success?
  • Agenda : Give a quick outline of the key sections or topics you’ll cover to help the audience follow along.
  • Set expectations : Let your audience know what you want them to take away from the presentation, whether it’s knowledge, inspiration or a call to action.

How to present a case study on PowerPoint and on Google Slides?

Presenting a case study on PowerPoint and Google Slides involves a structured approach for clarity and impact using presentation slides :

  • Title slide : Start with a title slide that includes the name of the case study, your name and any relevant institutional affiliations.
  • Introduction : Follow with a slide that outlines the problem or situation your case study addresses. Include a hook to engage the audience.
  • Objectives : Clearly state the goals of the case study in a dedicated slide.
  • Findings : Use charts, graphs and bullet points to present your findings succinctly.
  • Analysis : Discuss what the findings mean, drawing on supporting data or secondary research as necessary.
  • Conclusion : Summarize key takeaways and results.
  • Q&A : End with a slide inviting questions from the audience.

What’s the role of analysis in a case study presentation?

The role of analysis in a case study presentation is to interpret the data and findings, providing context and meaning to them.

It helps your audience understand the implications of the case study, connects the dots between the problem and the solution and may offer recommendations for future action.

Is it important to include real data and results in the presentation?

Yes, including real data and results in a case study presentation is crucial to show experience,  credibility and impact. Authentic data lends weight to your findings and conclusions, enabling the audience to trust your analysis and take your recommendations more seriously

How do I conclude a case study presentation effectively?

To conclude a case study presentation effectively, summarize the key findings, insights and recommendations in a clear and concise manner.

End with a strong call-to-action or a thought-provoking question to leave a lasting impression on your audience.

What’s the best way to showcase data in a case study presentation ?

Key Components of Successful Case Study Presentations

The key components of successful case study presentations include clear goals, engaging introductions, detailed customer profiles, and well-explained solutions and results. Together they help you present how your strategies succeed in real-world scenarios.

The following components are fundamental to crafting a compelling and effective marketing case study presentation:

  • Clear Objective:  Define the goal of your case study, ensuring it addresses specific questions or goals.
  • Engaging Introduction:  Start with an overview of the company, product, or service, as well as the context to provide necessary background information.
  • Customer Profile:  Detail your target customer demographics and their needs to help the audience understand who the marketing efforts are aimed at and their relevance.
  • The Challenge:  Clearly articulate the primary problem or issue to overcome to establish the context for the solution and strategy, highlighting the need for action.
  • Solution and Strategy:  Describe the specific strategies and creative approaches used to address the challenge. These details should demonstrate your approach to problem-solving and the thought process behind your decisions.
  • Implementation:  Explain how the solution was put into action to show the practical application. This description should bring your strategy to life, allowing the audience to see how you executed plans.
  • Results and Impact:  Present measurable outcomes and impacts of the strategy to validate and show its effectiveness in real-world scenarios.
  • Visual Elements:  Use charts, images, and infographics to make complex information more accessible and engaging, aiding audience understanding.
  • Testimonials and Quotes:  Include customer feedback or expert opinions to add credibility and a real-world perspective, reinforcing your strategy’s success.
  • Lessons Learned and Conclusions:  Summarize key takeaways and insights gained to show what the audience can learn from the case study.
  • Call to Action (CTA):  End with an action you want the audience to take to encourage engagement and further interaction.

Different Types of Case Study Presentations

The types of case study presentations include those that compare products, showcase customer journeys, or tell a story visually, among others. Each is tailored to different storytelling methods and presentation goals.

The following list outlines various types of case study presentations:

  • Problem-Solution-Impact Case Study:  This type focuses on a clear narrative structure, outlining the problem, solution implemented, and final impact. It's straightforward and effective for linear stories.
  • Comparative Case Study:  Ideal for showcasing before-and-after scenarios or comparisons between different strategies or time periods. This option often uses parallel columns or split slides for comparison.
  • Customer Journey Case Study:  Centered on the customer's experience, this option maps out their journey from recognizing a need to using the product or service, and the benefits they gained. It's a narrative-driven and customer-focused case study format.
  • Data-Driven Case Study:  Emphasizing quantitative results and data, this format is full of charts, graphs, and statistics. This option is perfect for cases where numerical evidence is the main selling point.
  • Storyboard Case Study:  Use this type to lay out the case study in a storytelling format. This option often relies on more visuals and less text. Think of it as a visual story, engaging and easy to follow.
  • Interactive Case Study:  Designed with clickable elements for an interactive presentation, this type allows the presenter to dive into different sections based on audience interest, making it flexible and engaging.
  • Testimonial-Focused Case Study:  This format is best for highlighting customer testimonials and reviews. It leverages the power of word of mouth and is highly effective in building trust.

Expert Tips for Case Study Presentations

Expert tips for case study presentations include knowing your audience, telling a clear story, and focusing on the problem and solution. They can also benefit from using visuals and highlighting results.

“Case studies are one of the most powerful tools in an organization’s marketing arsenal,” says Gayle Kalvert, Founder and CEO of  Creo Collective, Inc. , a full-service marketing agency. “Done correctly, case studies provide prospective buyers with proof that your product or service solves their business problem and shortens the sales cycle.”

Gayle Kalvert

“Presentations are probably the most powerful marketing asset, whether for a webinar, a first meeting deck, an investor pitch, or an internal alignment/planning tool,” says marketing expert  Cari Jaquet . “Remember, the goal of a case study presentation is not just to inform, but also to persuade and engage your audience.”

Cari Jaquet

Use these tips to make your presentation engaging and effective so that it resonates with your audience:

  • Know Your Audience:  Tailor the presentation to the interests and knowledge level of your audience. Understanding what resonates with them helps make your case study more relevant and engaging. “Presentations can also be a forcing function to define your audience, tighten up your mission and message, and create a crisp call to action,” explains Jaquet.
  • Tell a Story:  Structure your case study like a story, with a clear beginning (the problem), middle (the solution), and end (the results). A narrative approach keeps the audience engaged.
  • Focus on the Problem and Solution:  Clearly articulate the problem you addressed and how your solution was unique or effective. This section is the core of a case study and should be given ample attention.
  • Use Data Wisely:  Incorporate relevant data to support your points, but avoid overwhelming the audience with numbers. Use charts and graphs for visual representation of data to make it more digestible.
  • Highlight Key Results:  Emphasize the impact of your solution with clear and quantifiable results. This could include increased revenue, cost savings, improved customer satisfaction, and similar benefits.
  • Incorporate Visuals:  Use high-quality visuals to break up text and explain complex concepts. Consider using photos, infographics, diagrams, or short videos.  “I put together the graphics that tell the story visually. Speakers often just need a big image or charts and graphs to help guide their talk track. Of course, if the audience expects details (for example, a board deck), the graphic helps reinforce the narrative,” shares Jaquet.
  • Include Testimonials:  Adding quotes or testimonials from clients or stakeholders adds credibility and a real-world perspective to your presentation.
  • Practice Storytelling:  A well-delivered presentation is as important as its content. Practice your delivery to ensure you are clear, concise, and engaging. At this point, it also makes sense to solicit feedback from stakeholders. Jaquet concurs: “Once my outline and graphics are in place, I typically circulate the presentation draft for review. The feedback step usually surfaces nuances in the story or key points that need to show up on the slides. There is no point in building out tons of slides without alignment from the speaker or subject matter experts.”
  • End with a Strong Conclusion:  Summarize the key takeaways and leave your audience with a final thought or call to action.
  • Seek Feedback:  After your presentation, request feedback to understand what worked well and what could be improved for future presentations.

“Don't underestimate the power of a great presentation. And don't wait until the last minute or try to invent the wheel on your own,” advises Jaquet. “Many times, getting the next meeting, winning the deal, or getting the project kicked off well, requires your audience to understand and believe your story.”

How to Give A Compelling Interview Presentation

Interview presentations have now become the new norm for most industries. They are popular for sales, marketing, technology, and academic positions. If you have been asked to deliver one for your job interview presentation, prepare to build a strong case for yourself as a candidate.

Giving a general presentation is already daunting. But selling yourself is always the hardest. Spectacular credentials and stellar expertise don’t count much if you cannot present them clearly, which you are expected to do during your interview presentation.

So, let’s prime you up for the challenge. This post is action-packed with job interview PowerPoint presentation examples and will teach you the best way to do a presentation without stressing too much!

Table of Contents

What is an Interview Presentation?

What should an interview presentation look like, how to prepare for a job interview presentation: the basics, define your structure, what slides to include, how to come up with 15-minute interview presentation ideas, how to conclude your interview presentation, how to prepare for an interview: the final tips, what to do at the first interaction with the company elevator pitch for interview, presentation design tips, how to overcome presentation anxiety, tips on maintaining positive body language throughout the presentation, your final act.

An interview presentation, also known as a job interview presentation or interview portfolio, is a formal and structured way for candidates to showcase their skills, qualifications, and suitability for a specific job position during an interview. It goes beyond the typical Q&A format of interviews, allowing candidates to demonstrate their expertise through a prepared presentation. Employers commonly request interview presentations in various industries, such as sales, marketing, technology, academia, and management roles. These presentations serve several important purposes: assessing communication skills, evaluating cultural fit, measuring expertise, analyzing problem-solving skills, and observing presentation skills. While the specific format and requirements of interview presentations vary widely, candidates typically receive guidelines from the employer regarding the topic, duration, and any specific criteria to be addressed. In essence, an interview presentation is an opportunity for candidates to make a compelling case for their candidacy, showcasing their qualifications, experience, and suitability for the job. It requires careful preparation, effective communication, and the ability to engage and persuade the interview panel. A successful interview presentation can significantly enhance a candidate’s chances of securing the desired position.

Think of your interview presentation as a sales pitch.

Your goal is to convince the human resources team that you are the best candidate. The kick here is that you will present to a warm audience – you already impressed them enough with your resume to be called in for an interview. We recommend generating a strategy and presentation based on a 30 60 90 Day Plan .

Employers request interview presentations for a few simple reasons:

  • To assess your communication and public speaking skills.
  • To understand whether you are the right cultural fit for the company.
  • To develop a better sense of how well-versed you are in the domain .

So, your first job is ensuring your presentation fits the criteria. Review the company’s job description again and jot down all the candidate requirements. Take the time to read about their company values and mission. Be proactive and ask precisely what you should cover during your presentation.

Most interview presentations will differ in content and style, but here’s a quick example to give you more context:

Before you get elbow-deep in designing that PowerPoint for a job interview presentation, do some scouting and reach out to the HR team with a few questions.

You want your presentation to be on-point and technically accurate, so ask your contact the following:

  • How long should an interview presentation be? Fifteen minutes is the golden standard, though some employers may ask to cut it down to just 10 minutes or extend it to 20-25.
  • Who exactly will be present? A conversational presentation would undoubtedly be welcomed by your peers and a team leader but may appear too casual for the senior managers or board of directors.
  • Does the HR team have a particular agenda in mind? Ask some leading questions to understand what kind of skills/experience they want you to demonstrate. If needed, use a proper agenda slide to include your content.
  • What’s the IT setup? Should you bring your laptop? Do you need an adapter to connect to their projector? What kind of presentation software have they installed – PowerPoint, Keynote, Google Slides?

Everyone appreciates clarity.

In fact, 89% of professionals state their ability to communicate with clarity directly impacts their career and income.

Your presentation should flow, not rumble. Make sure that your story is easy to follow and your key message is easy to digest, remember, and pass on. If you want people to retain your main points, opt for the following structure:

Here’s an interview presentation example styled in this fashion.

What is: The company’s presence in the Middle East is low. Only 15% of revenues come from the top markets.

Why this matters: The UAE fashion market alone is expected to grow at a CAGR of 21% during the next five years.

What could be: I have helped my previous employer open a flagship store in Dubai, have a lot of industry contacts, and am familiar with the local legislature. Your brand can expect a 17% revenue growth within one year of opening.

You can find even more ideas for designing your presentations in this post .

The choice of slides will largely depend on whether you are asked to talk about yourself or present on some task that you will be required to do as part of your job (e.g., create marketing campaigns).

Most interview presentation templates feature the following slides:

  • Opening Slide
  • Quick Bio/Personal Summary
  • Career Path
  • Education timeline
  • Key Skills and Expertise
  • Case studies/examples of the problems you have solved at your past jobs
  • Your vision for your future role.
  • What exactly can you bring in as the candidate (we will come back to this one later on!)

Can’t figure out where to start? Check out our AI PowerPoint generator to create an entire interview slide deck in a couple of clicks, or just download a job interview template . Swipe down to learn from the either of the following job interview presentation samples.

Typically, a talent acquisition team will suggest broad interview presentation topics for you. For example, if you are applying for a sales position, they may ask you to develop a sales presentation for some product (real or imaginary).

Some employers will request a short presentation about you or your hobbies to understand whether you are a good “fit” for the team and share the company’s values. Remember this: your audience will be assessing your aptitude for the role, no matter which topic you were given.

In fact, the interviewers at this point don’t care that much about your experience and skills. They want to know how you can apply those to solve the company’s pressing problems – meet sales targets, improve ROI from social media marketing or help them earn more revenue.

Your job is to make an educated guess… predict the most wrenching problem, and pitch your “magic pill” during your interview presentation.

I know what you are thinking – but how do I find the right opportunity/problem to tackle?

Businesses across different industries pretty much struggle with the same generic challenges related to either of the following:

Your topic should clearly address one of these areas and offer a potential roadmap for solving some specific problem within it.

Let’s say that you are applying for a sales role. Clearly, you will want to tackle the “customer audience” set of problems. To refine your idea, ask yourself the following questions:

  • Can you think of a new customer segment the company should target? Who are they, what do they want, and how you can help the company reach them?
  • Do you have a network or experience to identify and pitch new clients?
  • Can you think of new collaboration opportunities the company could use to attract a whole new niche of customers?

So a sample job interview presentation about yourself should include a series of Problem & Solution Slides , showing exactly how you will address that issue if the company hires you.

Here’s another PowerPoint presentation about yourself for job interview example worth using – incorporate a case study slide, showing how you have successfully solved a similar problem for your past employer.

Wrap up your presentation by laying out the key steps the company needs to take. Give an estimate of how much time it will take to tackle the problem, and what changes/investments should be made.

Your conclusion should tell this: “Hire me and I will solve this problem for you in no time!”.

How to Prepare for an Interview: The Final Tips

Dial-Up Your Power

Take a deep breath and strike a “power pose” before you enter the room.

According to her research, power posers performed better during interviews and were more likely to get hired. Another study also proved this theory: unaware judges gave major preference to the power-primed applicants. So yes, pep talks do work!

The first 30 Seconds Count The Most

What you do and say in the first 30 seconds will make the most impact. Psychological  research  shows that listeners form opinions about your personality and intelligence in the first 30 seconds of the interview. So be sure to start with a compelling opening, framing exactly how you want to be perceived.

Try To Appear Similar to the Interviewer

Lauren Rivera, a professor from Kellogg School,  came to the conclusion that interviewers tend to hire “people like them” .

Even the top human resource management folks fall for this bias and tend to base their evaluations on how similar a candidate is to them, instead of trying to decide whether the person’s skill set is ideal for the position. So to be liked, you will have to act relatable.

Back up your statements with facts

To deliver a presentation with a bang, you can make use of pre-analyzed facts to support your hypothesis. Make sure to do your homework, study the company and its competitive landscape, and do the professional work you would have done as a member of the company crew. At some point in your interview presentation, you go “off the script”, and pull out a bunch of documents, supporting your statements.

case study interview slides

For example, you can give away a quick plan indicating a number of things the employer could do today to save money, even if they don’t hire you. Make sure to be meticulous; your work will speak for you. But giving away this work will show the employer your commitment, skills, and focus.

And that’s exactly how to make your job interview presentation stand out. Most candidates just ramble about their skills and past career moves. You bring specificity and proof to the platter, showing exactly what makes you a great hire fair and square.

Within a selection process, there are many interactions (interviews and dynamics) that you must successfully complete in order to be the next selected candidate. One of your objectives in this first interaction should be to generate a great first impression in the company. For this, we recommend using the Elevator Pitch for Interview technique.

The Elevator Pitch for Interview will allow you to present yourself in a solid and professional way in less than 60 seconds, in order to generate an outstanding first impression.

What is an Elevator Pitch for an Interview?

The Elevator Pitch is a condensed speech about yourself that aims to generate engagement in no more than 60 seconds. Entrepreneurs widely use this type of speech to persuade investors and job seekers in job interviews. Your Elevator Pitch for the Interview will generate a great first impression to the employer and be better positioned than other candidates. If your goal is to make a convincing presentation in a job interview, your Elevator Pitch needs to be well crafted.

How to Make an Elevator Pitch for an Interview

There are many ways and tips to make an excellent Elevator Pitch for a job interview. This section provides you with essential advice to make your interview more convincing.

Identify your target

You need to know to whom you are presenting yourself. Is it a recruiter? or an executive?. Your Elevator Pitch will change depending on the receiver.

Comprehend the needs of the hiring company

Make an advanced study about the search requirements for the job position. Identify your strengths. Highlight them. Demonstrate your experience. Identify your weaknesses. Show that you have a profile that seeks constant improvement

Create a clear, concise, and truthful Elevator Pitch

This point is critical. Your Elevator Pitch must be clear, concise, genuine, and impactful. Go from less to more. Generate a real hook in your audience. Try not to go off-topic or talk too much, and be brief in everything you want to say.

Speak naturally and confidently

If you can speak fluently and naturally, you can show a confident profile. Show you know what you are talking about and what you want.

Elevator Pitch Example for Job Seekers

This section illustrates an Elevator Pitch Example targeted to Recruiters. It will help you put together your own.

“My name is [NAME]. After graduating with a degree in Business Administration, I have spent the last five years accumulating professional experience as a Project Assistant and Project Manager. I have successfully managed intangible products’ planning, strategy, and launch these past few years. I was excited to learn about this opportunity in Big Data – I’ve always been passionate about how technology and the use of information can greatly improve the way we live. I would love the opportunity to bring my project management and leadership skills to this position.”

Ways to avoid common mistakes in your Elevator Pitch

Keep in mind the following points to avoid making mistakes in your Elevator Pitch for an Interview.

Don’t hurry to make your Elevator Pitch

The Elevator Pitch lasts approximately 60 seconds. Do it on your own time and naturally, as long as you make it clear and concise.

Do not always use the same Elevator Pitch for all cases

One recommendation is not to repeat the same Elevator Pitch in all your interviews. Make changes. Try new options and ways of saying the information. Try different versions and check with your experience which generates more engagement and persuasion.

Make it easy to understand

Articulate your pitch as a story. Think that the person in front of you does not know you and is interested in learning more about your profile. Don’t make your Elevator Pitch challenging to appear more sophisticated. Simply generate a clear and easy-to-understand narrative, where all the data you tell is factual and verifiable.

Don’t forget to practice it

Practice is the key to success. Your Elevator Pitch for Interview will become more professional, convincing, and natural with practice.

How to End an Elevator Pitch?

An essential aspect of ending an Elevator Pitch for an Interview is demonstrating interest and passion for the position. You have already presented yourself and established that you have the necessary background for the job. Closing with phrases revealing passion and attitude will help reinforce your pitch.

We recommend you use expressions such as:

“I have always been interested and curious about the area in which the company operates, and it would be a great challenge for me to be able to perform in this position.”

“I have been interested in moving into your company for a while, and I love what your team is doing in IT.”

“I would like to advance my career with an employer with the same values. I know that thanks to my profile and experience, I can make excellent contributions to your company.”

Keep It Visual: Use visuals like images, graphs, and charts to convey your points effectively. Visuals can make complex information more accessible and engaging. Consistency Matters: Maintain a consistent design throughout your presentation. Use the same fonts, color schemes, and formatting to create a cohesive look. Practice Timing: Be mindful of the allotted time for your presentation. Practice to ensure you can comfortably cover your content within the time limit. Engage the Audience: Incorporate elements that engage the audience, such as questions, anecdotes, or real-world examples. Interaction keeps the interview panel interested. Use White Space: Avoid cluttered slides. Use white space to create a clean and uncluttered design that enhances readability.

Presenting during a job interview can be nerve-wracking. Here are some strategies to overcome presentation anxiety:

  • Practice: Practice your presentation multiple times, ideally in front of a friend or mentor. The more you rehearse, the more confident you’ll become.
  • Visualization: Visualize yourself by giving a successful presentation. Imagine yourself speaking confidently and engaging the audience.
  • Breathing Techniques: Deep breathing can help calm nerves. Take slow, deep breaths before and during your presentation to reduce anxiety.
  • Positive Self-Talk: Replace negative thoughts with positive affirmations. Remind yourself of your qualifications and the value you bring to the role.
  • Focus on the Message: Concentrate on delivering your message rather than dwelling on your anxiety. Remember that the interviewers want to learn about your skills and experiences.
  • Arrive Early: Arrive at the interview location early. This gives you time to get comfortable with the environment and set up any technical equipment you use.

Maintain Good Posture: Stand or sit up straight with your shoulders back. Good posture conveys confidence and attentiveness. Make Eye Contact: Establish and maintain eye contact with your audience to show confidence and engagement. Use Open Gestures: Employ open gestures, like open palms and expansive arm movements, to convey enthusiasm and openness. Smile and Show Enthusiasm: Genuine smiles and enthusiastic facial expressions demonstrate passion and eagerness. Control Nervous Habits: Be mindful of nervous habits like tapping or fidgeting, which can distract your audience and convey anxiety.

10-Step Guide To Crafting A Successful Case Study Presentation

  • By Judhajit Sen
  • May 2, 2024

Key Takeaways

  • An effective case study is a blueprint for convincing an audience and explaining a solution’s rationale and potential impact.
  • The ideal time for a business case study is when you have to make your presentation to persuade clients, solve internal problems, back up arguments with real examples, or discuss an idea’s viability for a firm.
  • Case study template presentations aren’t just about presenting solutions; they’re powerful storytelling tools that engage audiences with real-world examples and provoke critical thinking.
  • Key elements of an effective case study presentation template include an executive summary, problem statement, solution, execution details, key results, inclusion of quotes and testimonials, acknowledgment of contributors, call to action, conclusion, and Q&A session.

A case study is like your argument’s blueprint, explaining the why, how, where, and who to persuade your audience. It’s your solution to a clear question, like expanding in a market or launching a product. Case studies help convince clients, analyze internal issues, and provide real-life use cases.

So, when should you make your case study like a pro? When you need to:

– Persuade clients about your services.

– Solve internal problems for a company.

– Back up arguments with real examples.

– Discuss an idea’s viability for a firm.

It’s not just about finding a solution—it’s about influencing your audience with your findings. Case study formats organize a lot of information in a clear, engaging way for clients and stakeholders, often using templates.

In simpler terms, a professional case study is an in-depth look at a specific topic, often tackling real-world problems. It showcases your expertise and how your solutions can solve actual issues.

In social sciences, it’s both a method and a research design to examine problems and generalize findings. Essentially, it’s investigative research aimed at presenting solutions to analyzed issues.

In business, case study examples delve into market conditions, main problems, methods used, and outcomes gained. It’s a powerful tool for understanding and addressing complex business challenges.

Case Study Presentation

Good case study PowerPoint templates explore a specific subject, whether it’s an individual, group, event, or organization. It’s like solving a puzzle with your audience, pushing you to think creatively.

Unlike a standard report, the goal here is to stimulate critical thinking. You’re not just throwing numbers around; you’re using real-life examples to provoke thought and offer different perspectives.

In marketing, case studies showcase your solutions’ effectiveness and success in solving client problems. These research presentations use written content, visuals, and other tools to tell compelling stories. They’re perfect for sales pitches, trade shows, conferences, and more—whether in-person or virtual.

But the best case study presentation slides aren’t just reports; they’re powerful and persuasive storytelling tools. Whether you’re a marketer or salesperson, knowing how to present a case study can be a game-changer for your business. It’s all about engaging your audience and sharing insights in a clear and compelling way.

Importance of a Case Study Presentation

Importance of a Case Study Presentation

To write a compelling case study presentation is more than just sharing information—it’s about convincing your audience that your product or service is the solution they need. Case study presentations help in –

Generating leads and driving sales: Case studies showcase your product’s success, turning potential customers into paying clients.

Building credibility and social proof: They establish your authority and value through real-life examples, earning trust from clients and prospects.

Educating and informing your target audience: Case studies teach potential clients about your product’s benefits, positioning you as an industry leader.

Increasing brand awareness: Case studies promote your brand, boost your visibility, and attract new customers.

Stats back up the power of case studies:

– 13% of marketers rely on them in their content strategy.

– They help boost conversions by 23% and nurture leads by 9%.

– 80% of tech content marketers include case studies in their strategy.

But case studies aren’t just marketing fluff; they’re about solving problems and showcasing accurate results. They’re valuable in various scenarios, from business cases to analyzing internal issues.

To create a compelling case study presentation effectively is your chance to offer a comprehensive, evidence-based argument that informs and persuades your audience. It’s like solving a puzzle, exploring every piece until you reach a clear conclusion. It’s about connecting data with real-world scenarios in a compelling narrative.

Whether in sales pitches, job interviews, or content marketing, case study presentation examples are your secret weapon for success. They provide tangible proof of your product’s value, helping you stand out in a cluttered marketplace.

Following are ten essential steps to crafting a successful case study presentation.

Begin With The Executive Summary

Leaders often seek a quick snapshot of important information, and that’s where the executive summary plays a vital role. Begin with a short introduction, laying out the purpose and goals of the case study in a straightforward manner. Capture your audience’s attention and provide a clear path for what follows.

Follow the introduction with a brief of the entire case study, allowing the audience to grasp the main points swiftly. Delve into the subject’s relevance and significance, explaining why the case study is essential and who benefits from its insights. This establishes the tone for the rest of the study, encouraging the audience to explore further.

Check out our expert tips and techniques to master creating an executive summary for presentations.

Define the Problem Statement

Steps For Crafting A Successful Case Study Presentation

Focus on the problem or challenge central to the case study. Provide background for the audience to grasp the issue, backing it up with data, graph or metrics to highlight its seriousness.

Need help visualizing your data? Check out our guide on mastering data visualizations.

Outline the goals and purpose of the case study and the questions it seeks to answer. This entails outlining the main issues from the customer’s viewpoint, making it understandable to the audience.

Start with a brief recap of the problem, clarifying the purpose of the study and the expected audience learnings. Explain the situation, shedding light on the hurdles faced. Present the key issues and findings without delving into specific details.

Highlight the importance of the problem using data and evidence to emphasize its real-world impact. Encapsulate the analysis’s purpose, aligning the issues identified with the study’s objectives.

Propose The Solution

At the heart of a presentation lies its solution. Reveal the steps taken to address the identified problem, including the methodology, experiments, or tests carried out and the considerations of various options. Clarify why the final solution was chosen over others.

Illustrates the shift from the problem-filled “before” to the successful “after.”

Detail the proposed solution, recommendations, or action plan based on analyses. This includes explaining its reasoning and outlining implementation steps, timelines, and potential challenges.

Describe the analytical methods and approach used, demonstrating the thoroughness of the analysis, including research processes, data collection tools, and frameworks employed.

Present the essential findings and insights, utilizing data, charts, and visuals to enhance comprehension and engagement. Thoroughly discuss the analyses and the implications of the findings.

Show How the Solution was Executed

The execution slide of a case study presentation describes careful planning, consideration of risks, and measurement of metrics crucial for implementing the solution.

Delve into the steps taken to attain desired client results, including identifying project key performance indicators (KPIs), addressing issues, and implementing risk mitigation strategies.

Detail the journey towards helping the client achieve results. Outline the planning, processes, risks, metrics, and KPIs essential for maximizing outcomes. This includes discussing any challenges encountered during execution and the strategies to overcome them, ensuring a seamless implementation process.

Highlight the practical steps taken to turn the proposed solution into tangible results for the client.

Present the Key Results

Cover the outcomes achieved through the implementation of the solution. Leverage data and metrics to evaluate whether the solution successfully met its objectives and the extent of its impact on stakeholders. Acknowledge any setbacks or areas for improvement.

Outline the solution’s positive impact on the client’s project or business, highlighting aspects such as financial results, growth, and productivity enhancements. Reinforce these assertions with supporting evidence, including images, videos, and statistical data.

Emphasize the remarkable outcomes resulting from the solution, substantiating tangible success with relevant data and metrics. Illustrate the effectiveness of your recommendations through before-and-after comparisons and success metrics, highlighting their real-world impact.

This solidifies the rationale behind your proposal, showcasing its substantial impact on the business or project, particularly in terms of financial benefits for clients.

Include Quotes and Testimonials

Incorporate quotes and testimonials directly from customers who have experienced the transformation firsthand, adding authenticity and credibility to your case study. These voices of customers (VoC) provide firsthand accounts of the benefits and effectiveness of your solution, offering extra social proof to support your claims.

To gather compelling testimonials, plan and schedule interviews with your subjects. Design case study interview questions that allow you to obtain quantifiable results to capture valuable insights into the customer experience and the impact of your solution.

Include testimonials from satisfied customers to bolster the credibility of your case study and provide potential clients with real-life examples of success. These quotes serve as powerful endorsements of your offerings, helping to build trust and confidence among your target audience.

Acknowledge your Contributors with References and Citations

Case Study Presentation

Express gratitude to those who played a vital role in shaping your case study’s outcomes. Extend heartfelt thanks to individuals whose insights and collaboration were essential in problem-solving.

Acknowledges the valuable contributions of external resources, reports, and data sets. Citing these sources maintains transparency and credibility, ensuring due credit is given and providing a solid foundation for further investigation.

Incorporate a comprehensive list of references, citations, and supplementary materials in the appendices supporting the case study’s findings and conclusions. These additional resources demonstrate the thoroughness of the research and offer interested parties the opportunity to delve deeper into the topic.

Thank those who contributed, and encourage the audience to explore the provided references to better understand the insights presented in the case study.

Give a Call to Action (CTA)

As the well-crafted case study presentation slides near their end, it’s crucial to outline actionable steps for stakeholders going forward. Recommend the following strategies to the audience to build upon the success achieved.

Ask stakeholders to integrate the proven solutions highlighted in the case study into existing processes or projects. These strategies have shown effectiveness and can be valuable tools in driving further success.

Encourage audience members to participate in a detailed consultation or product demonstration. Leveraging expertise and solutions can expedite goal achievement and overcome any remaining challenges.

Recommend further research and analysis to explore additional opportunities for improvement or innovation. Continuous learning and adaptation are essential in today’s dynamic business environment, with support available every step of the way.

Proactive steps based on insights from the case study will position organizations for continued growth and success. Urge the stakeholders to take action and seize the opportunities ahead.

Check out our blog on framing an effective call to action to learn more about crafting presentation CTAs.

Conclude your Case Study Presentation

Conclude the presentation by recapping the main points and highlighting their importance. Show that the solution presented effectively tackled the identified problem, delivering concrete results and benefits for the clients.

Summarize the key takeaways, underscoring how the findings can be applied in similar situations and showcasing the solution’s relevance across various contexts. This demonstrates not only its effectiveness but also its potential to yield positive outcomes in diverse scenarios.

Reiterate the power of strategic problem-solving and innovative solutions in driving success, and end by thanking the audience for their attention and participation.

To know more about concluding a presentation, check out our blog on helpful tips to end a presentation successfully.

Open the Floor for Q&A, Feedback and Discussion

Feedback and Discussion in Case Study Presentation

After your presentation ends, conduct a Q&A session. Encourage the audience to share their thoughts, ask questions for clarification, and engage in a constructive dialogue about the case study presented.

Feedback is valuable, so ask everyone to share their perspectives and insights. Also, encourage questions or comments, as they can provide further depth to the understanding of the subject matter.

This is an opportunity for mutual learning and exploring different viewpoints. Urge everyone to speak up and contribute to the conversation. The aim is to listen and exchange ideas to enrich the understanding of the topic.

Unlocking Success: Mastering the Art of Case Study Presentations

Case study presentations are not just reports; they’re dynamic storytelling tools that help sway clients, dissect internal issues, and provide real-world illustrations.

These presentations aren’t just about offering solutions; they’re about influencing audiences with findings. Organizing vast amounts of data in an engaging way, often using templates and case studies, provides a clear path for clients and stakeholders.

When including these elements of a case study presentation, remember to back them up with visuals that engage your audience through storytelling and real-life examples.

Here's an example of a case study we created for Lincoln Learning Solutions, an online K12 curriculum provider founded in 2005.

Problem: The company was forced to downsize and ended up without a professional graphics designer on its team. As a result, they struggled to create visually appealing graphics.

Solution: By using Visme, they're now able to create visually appealing marketing content, graphics and visuals without the aid of any professional graphic designer. They use Visme to create various visual content, including educational infographics, presentations, newsletters, social media graphics and more.

Results: Lincoln Learning Solutions now creates 3x more content and other collaborative projects with Visme than if they had opted to continue working with a single graphic designer.

Below are some helpful tips for designing and presenting your case study to clients, prospects, investors and key stakeholders.

1. Determine Your Goals

This is the first step to designing your case study. What are you looking to achieve, or what message do you want to convey in your case study?

We get it. Case studies are created to demonstrate the value of your solution to customers. However, we recommend aligning your objectives with the value (solution and results) you want your customers to see.

For example, depending on your client's pain points, your objective may be to show your solution helped other clients to:

  • Increase productivity, revenue and profit
  • Minimize employee turnover
  • Gain a competitive advantage
  • Drive sustainability or energy efficiency

2. Pick a Compelling Case Study

Once you have outlined what your case study is set to achieve, you need to pick a suitable case study.

We recommend having an arsenal of case studies at your disposal. This will give you the variety you need to whip out and present the best and most relevant case study for each prospect.

Stand-out case studies boost credibility and drive prospects' interest in your solution. For example, you should prioritize case studies featuring reputable brands.

Another top choice is case studies of clients who had complicated problems or clients who left your competitors to work with you. These case study examples typically provide a more compelling story and outcomes.

3. Use Templates

Case studies riddled with design and visual flaws can put off prospects. Using templates keeps your presentation structure organized and visually appealing. Beautiful case study templates like the ones above make your job much easier. It allows you to spend your time on content rather than aesthetics.

4. Use High-Quality Visual Aids

When preparing your presentation, use quality visual aids to break up the text and keep your audience engaged.

You don't want to bore your audience with large walls of irrelevant text and vague statements. Instead, use more numbers and visual aids like charts , graphs , images and videos to show compelling proof of success. They make your message clear and lend credence to your arguments.

Did you help your clients increase sales? If yes, show the percentage increase in numbers and charts or graphs to show a spike.

Notice how the case study template highlights compelling figures using graphs and charts.

Food Analytic Platform Case Study

5. Deliver a Flawless Presentation

You've already put in a lot of effort to create a solid professional case study. However, even the best-written case study will fail to deliver without a winning delivery.

So, how do you get your clients to buy into your case study during the critical presentation phase? How do you present your case study in a simple, clear and persuasive way?

Tell an Emotional Story

When presenting case studies, deploy storytelling—it works.

Think of storytelling as a hook that draws your audience into your presentation. Your story could clearly describe the problem a similar client faced, the solution you implemented and what they're currently enjoying.

It's not enough to use facts and figures alone. Injecting an emotional appeal into your narrative will make your case study memorable and impactful.

One way to create a human connection is by painting a clear picture your audience can relate to. You want to visualize their journey to success based on your results with existing clients.

Focus on the Client

Remember that the case study is not about you or your salesperson. Companies that focus more on themselves often come off as self-centered.

You should research your prospects and focus on their needs and challenges. Not only will your presentation be relatable, but it will have an emotional appeal and motivate your clients to take action.

So dig deep to find out these things:

  • Your client's concerns and pain points
  • The goals and outcomes your clients are looking to achieve and
  • The problems holding them back from achieving their goals

The more you can align your presentation with the client's needs and clearly articulate them, the faster you can secure their buy-in. Otherwise, your case study will sound like a thinly disguised sales pitch.

Connect and Engage Your Audience

Do you want to avoid situations where your audience zones off or nods off to sleep during your presentations?

Make your presentation a two-way dialogue. The more you can engage your audience, the more impactful your presentation will be.

Here are some effective ways to engage your audience.

  • Grab your audience's attention with a strong presentation opening . You can introduce yourself, tell a joke and review the agenda.
  • Ask thought-provoking questions or seek their opinions to understand what value means to them.
  • Smile and make eye contact to build rapport with your audience.
  • Weave relatable visual aids, colorful metaphors, or other multimedia into your presentations to make your point stand out.
  • Keep the conversation going and avoid sounding like you're giving a lecture or reading off a script.

You can also use Visme's interactive presentation tool to wow your audience by zooming into a key point in your presentation.

Keep It Brief and Interesting

No matter how much time you're allotted, keep your presentation brief.

Why does it matter? Humans have short attention spans. So, to avoid losing audience attention, spend more time on slides that drive home your points.

In the middle of the presentation, you may be asked to dive deeper into a particular aspect or answer other questions.

Whatever happens, be prepared to answer questions in the middle of your presentations. You can create appendix slides to expand on some aspects of your case study.

So there you have it. We've discussed everything you need to know about creating and delivering a stunning case study presentation.

Case studies can be an effective sales and marketing tool for convincing and converting prospects into paying customers. However, to deliver a smashing presentation that wows your audience, we recommend using Visme's case study templates . You'll find templates for every niche and use case.

Visme offers a wide array of design assets, visual aids, images, videos and animations to make your presentation pop. After tweaking your template, you can embed your case study on your blog or website. Also, you can share it online using a link or download it for offline use in multiple formats, like PDF and HTML5.

A case interview is a type of job interview where the candidate is given a real-world business problem to solve. Case interviews are used by consulting firms, such as McKinsey, BCG, and Bain.

Case interviews reflect the type of business problems that candidates will come across as a management consultant. They test the candidate’s ability to break down the problem, identify the root cause, and identify the optimal solution for the business.

Consulting firms use case interviews because they test the core skills required of a consultant. Firms are on the lookout for:

  • How well you structure a complex and ambiguous business problem
  • How accurately you determine which issues are important in the problem
  • How comfortable you are with data (numerical and otherwise)
  • How accurately you draw conclusions and recommend actions to solve the problem
  • How clearly you articulate your thoughts during an interactive problem-solving discussion

Types of case interview questions

Case interview questions come in many varieties but there are a number of common business topics you should prepare for:

  • Growth:  The business wants to increase market share in an existing market.
  • M&A:  The business is considering merging or acquiring another company, such as a competitor.
  • Market entry:  The business wants to enter a new geography or launch a new product (see our guide to the Market Entry Framework ).
  • Profitability:  The business wants to increase profitability or revenue, or reduce costs (see our guide to the Profitability Framework ).
  • General business situation: Generic case questions that don’t fit neatly into a category above (see our guide to the Business Situation Framework ).

Styles of case interviews

There are two main styles of case interviews:

  • Interviewer-led (high guidance, high pressure): The interviewer dictates the setting and pace of the interview. They will lead you down a path to a solution but, at the same time, will grill you with deep questions about the case. The challenge with this style is that you must quickly and confidently answer the interviewer’s questions.
  • Candidate-led (low guidance, low pressure): The interview leaves the problem open to you. You need to determine the best line of questioning to find the solution. The challenge with this style is that you must independently navigate an ambiguous business problem.

McKinsey Practice Case Question

How to prepare for a case interview

Learn common case interview frameworks.

A case interview framework is a template that can be applied to break down and solve case study questions. It aids candidates by giving them a clear approach to resolving the case question they are given.

There are frameworks for all common case interview questions, such as market entry , profitability , and generic business situation questions .

However, you must remember that you will be penalized for applying a generic framework to your case interview question. You should treat the framework as a starting point and tailor it to the specific details of the business problem that you’re given.

Practice case interview questions

The best way to get good at case interviews is to practice case interviews (surprise!).

Top candidates will literally practice upwards of 50 or 100 case questions before their interview. There are two ways to practice case interviews:

  • Practice alone: It’s good to practice alone when you’re getting started. To do this, you’ll need to find example case questions that are structured in a question-and-answer format (e.g. these McKinsey case interview questions ). This format is great because it doesn’t require an interviewer to guide you through the case.
  • Practice with a partner: After a while, you’ll need a partner to practice more complex and ambiguous cases. Look for a partner who is familiar with case interviews, as they’ll have a good understanding of how and when to provide guidance.

It can sometimes be difficult to find a good case interview partner. If you’re at university, you should start by asking peers in your classes if they’re applying for consulting firms and practicing with them. Otherwise, you could try to find a partner on the PrepLounge candidate listing or the My Consulting Coach candidate listing .

Take case preparation courses or coaching

Many candidates choose to purchase case preparation courses (like Crafting Cases , My Consulting Coach  or Hacking the Case Interview ) or work with coaches (like Management Consulted and PrepLounge ).

I haven’t personally tried any courses or coaches. However, based on the content on their website, I really like the way that Crafting Cases teaches case interviews.

Instead of giving you generic frameworks to memorize and apply, they teach you how to create bespoke frameworks in real time during the interview. This is undoubtedly the best way to ace your case interview, so you might want to check them out .

Improve your mental math

Doing math in the privacy of your own home is one thing. It’s another thing to do math aloud and under the critical gaze of an interviewer.

You should actively practice doing mental math aloud and under time pressure.

Here are a couple of things that you should be confident with:

  • Zeroes:  It’s always the zeros! You need to be confident when calculating orders of magnitude (e.g. 12,000 x 120,000).
  • Fractions: It helps to be familiar with translating common fractions to decimals (e.g. 1/6 = 0.16). You should know how to do this for fractions between 1/2 and 1/15.
  • Common values: It also helps to know the value of common variables, such as the population of your country and the world. The trick here is to round them to the nearest number that you can confidently use with mental math (e.g. rounding the population of the world from 7.8bn to 8bn).

What to expect on the day

Case interviews follow the same format, no matter which consulting firm you’re applying for.

There are three stages to a case interview:

  • Fit interview (15-30 mins):  The interviewer will ask questions about your suitability and motivation to be a consultant at the particular firm that you’re applying for (e.g. the dreaded “why consulting” question ).
  • The case interview question (30-45 mins): The interviewer will give you a real-world business problem to solve (more details below).
  • Open questions (5-10 mins):  At the end of the interview, you’ll have an opportunity to ask questions to the interview.

To be successful, you’ll need to do well during all three stages. However, the most important stage is the case interview question.

How to answer a case interview question

Answering a case interview question requires a balance between structure and flexibility.

On the one hand, it’s extremely useful to have a pre-planned response structure so that you’re not starting from scratch in a high-pressure interview. On the other hand, you need to adapt the structure to the specific nuances of the case question.

Here is what I’ve found to be the most useful way to answer a case interview question:

Step 1. Listen and clarify

The interviewer will present you with the case interview question. Start by noting down the question, restating the question to confirm you understood it correctly, and then clarifying the objective of the question.

Step 2. Take time to prepare an approach / framework

You should immediately ask your interviewer if you can take a couple of minutes to think through the question and structure your thoughts. They’ll always give you this time.

Use this time to identify the type of case interview question that you have been asked, as it’s not always obvious (e.g. profitability, market-entry, etc.). Once you’ve done this, then figure out the most appropriate framework to apply.

But you cannot simply apply a generic framework to your question. In fact, interviewers will penalize candidates who apply a generic framework in a case interview.

Interviewers are looking for your ability to break down the specific business situation they’ve given you, so you need to adjust your framework to apply to your question.

Your framework should cover all your hypotheses for the root cause of the business problem. For example, if you have a profitability case, then you need to consider both revenues and costs.

Step 3. Confirm the objective and share your approach

Once you have prepared your framework, you should share it with your interviewer.

Start by re-iterating the objective of the case question, then spin your paper around and walk through your approach step-by-step.

Why do you do this? In the case interview, you should consider your interviewer as your client. You want their buy-in on the approach and you’ll rely on them to confirm that you’re solving the right problem.

This is very important. If you get the framework correct, then solving the case interview question can be reasonably straightforward. If you get the framework wrong, you’ll almost never solve the case.

Step 4. Test each component of your framework

Now is the most challenging part. It’s time to break down the business problem.

As I mentioned earlier, your framework should cover all the potential hypotheses for the business problem. So if your framework is good, then it’s simply a matter of working through and testing each step.

Start the first step of your framework and ask your interviewer questions to understand that aspect of the business. For example, you might want to start answering your profitability case question by breaking down revenues. In that step, you would ask questions about revenue drivers, such as average sales price, number of units sold, etc.

From there, work through each step of your approach. In our example, you would then ask questions about costs, such as changes in fixed costs, variable costs, etc.

At this stage, you’re looking to identify root causes. In many cases, there will be multiple root causes, so don’t stop when you’ve found one potential root cause. Continue until you’ve worked through your entire framework.

Once you’ve finished working through your framework, ask your interviewer if there’s anything else that you should consider. Follow their lead. If all goes well, there won’t be anything that you haven’t already investigated.

Step 5. Synthesize findings and draw conclusions

At the end of the interview, you’ll need to describe your findings and provide recommendations to the client.

You probably have a whole bunch of different findings and root causes for the business problem, so you need to make sense of it all.

Ask the interviewer if you can take some time to prepare your findings for the client. They will always give you this time.

Step 6. Communicate your recommendations

It’s important that you clearly, concisely, and confidently communicate your recommendations to the interview.

You should use the Pyramid Principle to structure your recommendations, which means:

  • Start with the recommendation: Start by stating your main recommendations for the business. This should only be a few sentences.
  • Follow with the rationale: Describe the main arguments for your recommendation. These arguments should be supported by data and other evidence.
  • Focus only on what’s important:  Ignore everything else. Don’t discuss anything that you’ve found to  not be the cause of the business problem.

Other tips for the case interview

It goes without saying that the most important thing is to answer the case question well.

To do that, you should follow the approach outlined above. But, in addition, you should:

  • Ask questions:  Never be afraid to ask questions. Treat your interviewer like a consulting client. Your job as the consultant is to ask them questions to understand the root cause of their business problem.
  • Take logical notes: Case interviews can take up to 45 minutes and it’s impossible to keep everything in memory for the entire time. Your interviewer will expect you to write things down. And they sometimes even judge the way that you write notes, so keep things neat and logical.
  • Stay composed:  You’ll almost certainly run into a dead-end and not know where your line of questioning should go next. Don’t panic! Just take a deep breath, review your notes, and move on.
  • Demonstrate structure:  Consultants love structure. You should show that you have a structured approach that you’re following methodically. And, whenever you’re listing or grouping, you should ensure that your items are MECE (mutually exclusive, collectively exhaustive).
  • Communicate top-down:  Whenever you need to communicate something with the interviewer (e.g. your recommendation), you should start with the conclusion and then follow with the justification. This is known as the Pyramid Principle .

Example case interview questions

Example 1: healthcare (mckinsey & co).

Our client is Magna Health, a health care company in the Midwest. It both insures patients and provides health care services. Employers pay a fixed premium to Magna for each of their employees in return for which Magna covers all necessary health services of the employee (ranging from physician care, and medications to hospitalization).

Magna currently has 300,000 patients enrolled in its plan. It has 300 salaried physician employees who provide a broad range of services to patients in 6 centers. These physicians represent a wide range of specialty areas, but not all areas. When a patient needs medical treatment in a specialty area not covered by a Magna physician, they are referred outside of the Magna network for care, and Magna pays all referral costs on a fee-for-service basis. Magna does not own any hospitals itself, instead contracting services from several local hospitals.

Magna’s CEO has retained McKinsey to help determine what is causing the declining profitability and how Magna might fix it. What key areas would you want to explore in order to understand Magna’s decline in profitability?

Example 2: Banking (Bain & Co)

Our client, Giant Bank is one of the “big 4” banks in Australia. These 4 banks account for about 75% of the retail/commercial banking revenue in Australia and are roughly equal in size. Giant Bank does not have a good understanding of the profitability of its retail customer base, and more specifically individual segments. One segment that has been of particular concern to them is the “youth” customer segment. This group encompasses all customers under the age of 22.

Giant Bank wants Bain to help answer two questions:

  • What is the average annual profit of a Youth customer?
  • What should Giant Bank’s strategy be to maximize long term profits for this customer segment?

Example 3: Private Equity (Bain & Co)

Gulf Partners, a private equity fund specializing in leveraged buyouts, has asked Bain to evaluate an investment in Singapore-based Acme Packaging. (A private equity firm is a company that has raised money from individuals and institutions to invest in companies that may be a riskier investment but offer the promise of higher returns.)

Acme Packaging manufactures and sells intermediate bulk containers (IBCs), which are metal frame crates stacked within shipping containers for the transport of goods. Acme Packaging has manufacturing operations in Singapore and sales offices throughout Asia. 100% of sales are from Asian markets with 80% of sales from rubber customers – mostly tire manufacturers from Japan and Southeast Asia. Acme Packaging has 65% market share within the rubber IBC market and has increased share in the Asia IBC market by 5% over the past 3 years.

Gulf Partners prefers to sell their investments within 5 years with a minimum 40% return on their investment. In order to evaluate whether Acme Packaging can generate high returns, Gulf Partners would like Bain to assess the growth potential for Acme Packaging. They specifically want to know:

  • Can Acme Packaging double its operating income by year 5 (2006)?
  • What growth opportunities should Gulf Partners pursue to increase the value of Acme?

Example 4: Medical Devices (BGC)

Your client is GenCo, a large, international, diversified company with a health care division that produces a wide variety of medical instruments and related services.

Five years ago, it expanded into the health care software industry by purchasing MedCount, which markets administrative systems to large U.S. hospitals. These systems are designed primarily for back-office functions; they are not designed for managing patients or providing other physician and technical support.

Since it was purchased, the software division has failed to deliver the growth needed to justify the multiple GenCo paid for it. GenCo feels it has already squeezed margins as much as possible, and now is looking for new sales opportunities.

MedCount turned to BCG to help identify potential ways to increase revenues. How would you approach this problem?

Example 5: Defense (BGC)

Your client is a U.S. defense contractor that manufactures the Mohawk Light Fighter Jet for the British Royal Air Force. The company has produced the $20 million fighter jet for the past 12 years. The British government has decided to put the contract out to bid, however, and to win the program, the client’s purchasing agents have estimated, the company will need to cut its costs by 5 percent. It has asked BCG to help it reduce costs.

Example 6: Foods (BCG)

Your client is the sugar cereal division of Foods Inc., a U.S.-based distributor and manufacturer of packaged foods. According to the division president, Foods Inc.’s traditional strength has been with grocery stores, which still account for the majority of its $1.1 billion in sugar cereal sales. But Big M Mart, a discount chain, has been growing at a healthy rate of almost 15 percent per year and has now become Food Inc’s largest customer. Your client is not sure how to react, and has asked BCG for assistance with its distribution strategy.

Case Study Presentation Templates To Tell Your Story Effectively

Case study presentations are and will always be integral to the business world. They give you a simple and concise way to demonstrate your case study on a company’s particular challenge, the actions taken, the results, and much more! Case studies are the best way to showcase your expertise and drive business growth. But to truly engage the audience in your case study, you need a case study design that will inform them and keep them captivated! To help you create compelling presentation for your research, we will show you the art of creating a case study presentation, its structure, its key features, and a few tips and templates to streamline your process! So, what is the wait? Let’s dive in.

What Is A Case Study Presentation?

A case study presentation is your concise and well-reasoned argument that talks about the why, how, where, and who that convinces the audience of your analysis. Think of it as a solution to a well-defined question you were asked. Should the company expand in this market? Should we launch this product? What is the reason for our reduced sales? Why are you the best person for the client’s project offering?

An immaculate case study presentation answers all these questions, analyzes and presents solutions to the problems, and offers real-life examples to back the answers up. A case study’s main task is finding a solution and influencing the audience with your findings.

How To Create A Case Study Presentation?

A good case study presentation determines how well everyone in the audience will receive you and your message. A well-made case study will hold your audience’s attention while also ensuring that your main message is communicated thoroughly. But how do you create a good case study presentation? There are two methods that you can use:

1. Using a template

2. Creating one from scratch

Using a template gives you everything you need to create a killer case study presentation. All you have to do is add your content and make necessary changes and formatting of text. But when you create one from scratch, it gives you more control over its structuring. So, how do you create a case study presentation from scratch?

How To Structure A Case Study Presentation?

Writing an effective case study requires a proper structure to ensure that it is engaging, informative, and persuasive; here is how you can structure your case study presentation.

1. Start With An Introductory Overview

A good case study presentation always starts with an introduction to the subject of the case study. What is the objective of the case study – Is it a success story or showcasing your problem-solving skills? This is the perfect moment to grab your audience’s attention by explaining why this case study is important and who would benefit.

2. Explain The Problem

Right after the introduction, take some time to explain the problem or challenge that your case study is focusing on. Provide context to your audience so they can understand the issue, especially with the help of data or metrics.

3. Give The Solution

Now that everyone in the room knows the problem, it is time for you to provide a solution! You can include a methodology, any experiment/test you have performed, and the considered options.

4. Mention Key Stakeholders Involved

A great case study presentation mentions the individuals, groups, or organizations that are impacted directly by the problem and solution you gave. It is best to let everyone know about the range of outcomes that they can experience.

5. Discuss Key Results & Outcomes

Use data and metrics to discuss the results of implementing your solution to the problem. Did your solution solve the problem? What were the effects it had on the people involved? And be honest about the setbacks and places for improvement.

6. What Are The Next Steps

Wrap up your case study presentation by providing the next steps and recommendations you have based on your findings. Outline the next steps so that everyone is on the same page regarding the next steps going forward.

7. Q&A Session & Feedback

Open the floor for questions and feedback, allowing for engagement and discussions to provide additional data you may not have considered. A Q&A session also helps clear any doubts that your audience may have.

8. Conclusion

Finally, you can conclude the case study by summarizing the key points and reinforcing your message. End the presentation by thanking your audience for their time and participation. If you are lost on how to end a presentation, our blog on how to conclude a presentation will help you!

By the end, you should end up with a case study presentation that follows a structure something like this:

Features Of An Effective Case Study Presentation

All good case study presentations always have a few features that you will find. These simple features not only make a case study effective but also increase its impact tenfold. So, if you want to make a killer case study, make sure to include these features.

1. Storytelling

A well-made presentation should always tell an engaging story that resonates with your audience. By clearly outlining the problems faced, the solutions, and the outcomes achieved, you can create a logical flow to your content. This logical flow allows you to guide your audience through a narrative, ensuring an engaging presentation. Instead of using passive language like that of a research paper, use active and action-based language. This language should be persuasive and engaging.

2. Visual Appeal

Visual elements are crucial in presentations as they help catch your audience’s attention and enhance understanding. High-quality images, charts, and graphs help reinforce key points and turn complex data into bite-sized information. One thing to note while using visuals is that you need to maintain a consistent look throughout the presentation to create a professional and polished look.

Use effective color palettes that suit the environment and your pitch to showcase your professionalism. Use correct fonts and the principles of visual hierarchy to contrast the important information and the background matter to draw attention to the right material on the page.

3. Data-Driven Evidence

Using concrete data and metrics helps build credibility and strengthen your claims. You can highlight Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to showcase the impact of your solution, or you can even give real-life examples in your case study to further prove your points.

You should also research the company, the client, the problem statement, the solution, and every single data you have mentioned in your solution. Also, be prepared for things that you are not writing about, such as alternate solutions, market changes, legal hassles, and finer details of your proposals

4. Customer Testimonials

Customer testimonials help build trust and credibility among the audience! You can use quotes from clients to share their experiences; you can also use positive reviews and ratings to reinforce your message.

5. Call To Action

A good case study always provides a CTA that lets them know what to do next. By letting your audience know what they can do next, you encourage them to take the step, whether contacting your company or visiting your website.

Case Interview Presentation

9 Tips For Delivering A Stellar Case Presentation Interview

A Case study interview is a staple in the recruitment process for firms in the professional services industry, particularly management consulting firms. But recently, many companies use what is called a “case presentation interview” to test more than just the candidate’s ability to crack a case.

Recently, case presentation interviews are used for analyst-level employees in many healthcare, tech, and e-commerce consulting firms.

In this article, you will learn what skills a case presentation interviewer is looking for, the biggest challenge of a case presentation interview, the major tips you can use to ace your case presentation interview and land your dream job! + a bonus Insightful video with tons of examples for consulting case interviews.

What is a case presentation interview?

Also called a case study presentation interview is an advanced phase of the interview process where the interviewee is asked to solve a business problem, given little time and information about the problem. Generally, the case is presented to the hiring manager and his peers.

Case Presentation Interviews usually follow this process:

What skills are the interviewer looking for during a case presentation interview?

The ultimate goal of the interview is not necessarily to see if the person being interviewed can solve the business problem (although, very important), but to see if they can think on their feet, reason like a consultant, communicate their insights effectively before clients and/or the CEOs.

A case presentation interview is an interviewee’s opportunity to prove to their interviewer that their soft skills and analytical skills are relevant within a realistic business context.

There are always maths problems in case presentation interviews, and the interviewer expects that he/she is walked through the problem-solving and decision-making process.

Communication Skills GUIDE: All you Need to Know to Improve it

What is the biggest difficulty in case presentation interviews?

Time management tops the list of difficulties that would be faced during a case presentation interview. The firm often provides the interview candidate with a large set of data and extrinsic information.

9 Tips on how to deliver an excellent Case Presentation Interview

You have to prepare extensively for your case presentation interview, and one of the ways you can do this is by brushing up on your mental maths skills.

You can do this by randomly giving yourself a short but budgeted time to solve semi-difficult maths problems without using a calculator.

You can use information from case books as practice just so that can get ahead of the curve. It would also be wise for you to extract just the prompt and data as many case books already come with answer keys.

There are three things you can do to help yourself:

While case presentation interviews are not held like traditional interviews where the interviewer and candidate discuss extensively, it is still important to know as much about the firm as you can find.

You can use these four easy steps to create structure:

Ensure that you think properly about the framework that you need to include in the key categories. You also need to think properly about the data that would be needed to test the hypothesis.

Unknown to many case presentation interview candidates, a case presentation interview question packet already has all the data that they need right before their faces- this is one of the biggest advantages of case presentation interviews.

Most traditional case interviews pose as difficult because the relevant data has to be mined; this is not the case for case presentation interviews, the limited information supplied to the interviewee contains everything they need. Once you form your hypothesis, you can cut right to the chase and start testing instantly to see what direction you should head towards.

While you might have put in all the hard work in preparation and creating their presentation, it would be an absolute waste of effort if you deliver the presentation shakily.

Just so you know, whether the allotted time is 30 minutes or 2 hours, it would go by very quickly, hence the need for a time budget. Interviewers often understand the limited time constraints, but you must move on from spending your time analyzing the information and draw out their presentation quickly.

Transparency is an impressive quality to many firms, and they would be impressed by your honesty.

Regardless of how difficult it may seem to be, relax, and have fun with it. As long as you did your best to fully prepare, leaving no stone unturned, you will be fine.

With this, chances are very high that both you and the firm reach a mutual realization and an agreement if the firm and the role are great for you.

Intro to Case Presentation Interviews

Case Presentation Interview is a unique variant of the traditional case study interview . The underlying structure of the case is the same - you’re placed in a hypothetical business situation and are asked to resolve a business problem . However, in this type of case study, you’re asked to solve the case by working independently rather than by collaborating with the interviewer. Case Presentation Interviews are less commonly used but are as important for  candidate assessment as traditional ones. You can encounter them as part of the BCG or Bain first or second-round interview, as well as when applying for managerial roles in the corporate strategy departments or startups. They have been growing in popularity in recent years given their 360° approach to testing candidates in “on-the-job” work leveraging real-life scenarios .

The specific details of this type of case interview differ by the company. In the case of BCG or Bain, you’re usually given a handout of 20 to 40 pages of information including graphs, charts , or tables , and given 1 to 2 hours to analyze information and prepare 3 to 5 slides with your analysis and recommendation. However, there are three major differences among different types of written case studies you should be aware of:

Depending on the case study , you might get an overall business problem or a specific list of 3-4 key questions to investigate and answer. In the former, you have to decide on areas to explore and you have the freedom to solve them, while in the latter you should focus on areas mentioned in the questions. The difference is similar to interviewer- vs interviewee-led traditional cases.

If you’re in the recruitment process for BCG or Bain you’ll most probably get 1-2 hours to analyze information and prepare the slides . However, for smaller consultancies and business roles it became a standard to give case studies with a 2-3 days deadline - which requires your resolution to be more refined and thorough.

In the majority of written case interviews , you are expected to create slides from scratch . This involves both the visual and content sides of the presentation. However, you might also encounter case interviews where you’ll be given (partially) pre-filled slide templates (e.g., titles, graphs, charts ). Then your focus should be on analysis and filling in the missing numbers or messages.

case study interview slides

Case Presentation Interview simulates the consulting job environment by placing you in a hypothetical business situation with access to data and further presentation of your insights and work. It helps to predict how you would perform if you joined the company for the role . While they are aimed at testing similar skills to traditional case interviews , they help to assess your critical reading and problem-solving skills , as well as your ability to research and analyze information . It also tests your communication and more “technical” skills in preparing an actual presentation.

The following points are the usual assessment criteria for Case Presentation Interview:

  • Logical and structured thinking (using logic and reason to derive conclusions & then being able to convey complex messages in a simple way)
  • Data and information analysis (using an analytical approach to data & prioritizing key outcomes)
  • Slide making (making the output easy to understand and digest through a compelling story and clear visuals/content)
  • Presentation skills (communicating in a clear, concise and persuasive way)

Ace The Case

There is a clear five-step process you should follow to successfully solve the Case Presentation Interview:

You should start solving the Case Presentation Interview by making sure you understand the objective and the primary business question you try to answer. Solving the wrong problem or misunderstanding key challenges is the quickest way to fail the case interview. Spend time reading the instructions and understanding the primary problem or questions you are trying to answer. This will allow you to understand the most important areas of the case and derive your framework. In case you get a specific list of questions then focus on those.

Before you begin collecting, reading, and analyzing the data, you should create a basic framework to help guide your analysis. This framework will also shape your target presentation agenda and storyline . Remember - each case is unique and it doesn’t necessarily fit in one of the typical frameworks described in multiple casebooks (applicable especially in the interviewee-led approach). Don’t be afraid to apply a tailored solution, an out-of-the-box way of thinking could make you shine among all other applicants (but still - be complex). You should start by selecting 3 to 4 areas that are needed to answer the primary objective of the case study. If you received a list of detailed questions these can often substitute the framework and there’s no need to add anything else. However, you may identify other important areas and you might decide to add them to your framework. Also, if you received pre-filled slide templates, they will usually provide support on what are the areas you should focus on. Otherwise, you will need to create your framework from scratch . Use your knowledge of the business problems , screen through the data available, and determine the main areas of your framework .

The next step is to understand the data available to solve the case. For interviews with only 1-2 hours of preparation time, you will be given a handout with information to be leveraged for analyzing and solving the case. Don’t spend time reading and analyzing every slide. That would take too much time. Instead, understand what data and information are out there. Decide and prioritize which information is important to read and analyze in more detail later to solve the case interview. Case presentation interviews have strict time constraints , so you want to make the most of the limited time that you have.

Next, match different pieces of information that exist to areas in your framework . This will enable you to conduct further analyses and solve the case study.

You should already know what questions you need to answer based on the framework you created. You also understand the data and information available for answering each question. All that is left is to process and analyze information and data that is relevant for each area of the framework. As you analyze the data and start answering major questions in your framework make sure to summarise your learnings and takeaways . It is important you keep a record of key answers that you can then leverage for the storyline of your presentation as well as make it easier to remember the work and decide on target recommendations. Following an analysis of all relevant materials, you should have a list of key takeaways and answers for all core elements of your framework . You should now proceed to define the comprehensive recommendation derived from these data points which would be collectively supported by them.

Not each takeaway will support your final recommendation. Sometimes you might find a takeaway that goes against your hypothesis and proposed recommendation. In this case, you need to mediate conflicting insights and decide on which one is the most important. You might decide that contradicting takeaway is a potential risk or the next step to be further discovered in the way of investigation.

Remember that there is no such thing as a wrong recommendation. As long as your proposal is supported by data-driven evidence your solution will be solid enough for the interviewers.

As soon as you decide on a recommendation and collect all the supporting data and evidence , it’s time to prepare a structure for the presentation slides. For this purpose, you can structure your presentation into a simple communication pyramid structure - start with the recommendation and 3 supportive arguments , deep dive into supportive reasons and data on the following slides (one slide for each argument), finish with a summary of all covered information, and then present potential next steps or open questions . In case of having received pre-filled slide templates, the structure of your presentation slides might have been already decided for you. Otherwise, you can leverage the approach described above. In the end, you should derive a structure of 6-10 slides which you can start filling in with the content.

Once you finalize the structure of the presentation, the next step is to start putting your content and key messages on them. Make sure you use descriptive slide titles communicating the message of the slide , as well as creating a sound storyline when combined together. Moreover, prepare your slides in a way they’re easy to digest. None of the slides should have more than one, powerful key message.

In case you’re left with some time, review your slides one more time. You should correct any mistakes or errors as well as clean up the slides for them to look neat and polished. Obvious omission can be perceived as a big question mark to your ability to work under pressure in a client-facing role.

Moreover, you should spend the last minutes thinking about potential questions  interviewers might ask you during your presentation. These might include your approach used to analyze or your conclusions. Be prepared for challenges of your assumptions and interpretations of the data!

Last Tips

There are 4 small tips I’d like to share with you that you should keep in mind when preparing Case Presentation Interview:

  • Start your presentation with your recommendation first and then follow the framework
  • Focus on slide titles and make sure they make a coherent storyline
  • Always remember that one slide should have only one message
  • Include next steps and open questions at the end of your presentation

You can practice those by solving an example of a BCG Written Case study which can be found here .

Please leave feedback if you found those tips useful and good luck with your Case Presentation Interviews!

Written Case Interview Guide: Format, Criteria & Examples

Written case interview, though less popular than regular oral  case interview , is a powerful recruitment tool since they simulate the actual consultant's daily work. BCG, Bain, PwC, and Deloitte are some well-known consulting firms using this interview format.

We will go through a complete guide for you to pass the written case interview: the format, how to prepare, and how to deliver your written case presentation.

Table of Contents

What is a written case interview?

Written case interview is a type of case interview often used in management consulting. The candidates need to prepare to deliver a full pitch, solving a business case like an actual consultant.

Although each firm has its own interview formats, a written case interview typically consists of four phases: receiving the case’s document, making slides based on calculation and analysis, delivering a presentation and Q&A with the interviewers.

The most distinctive feature of a written case interview is that the candidates have time to prepare for their presentation (from 2 days in advance to 1 hours before the interview) since a written case interview involves piles of information that take a vast amount of time to analyze.

Notably, the candidates must prepare slides to present their findings and recommendations for the case. This makes written case interviews closely simulate the real work of a consultant before and during a meeting with a client.

When to take a written case interview?

Written case interviews often take place after the candidates have passed the CV screening and online tests round in management consulting recruitment.

Written case interviews are less prevalent than the standard case interview, yet many consulting firms, including BCG, PwC, Deloitte, etc., still utilize written case interviews.

What is assessed in a written case interview?

Like all case interviews, the written case interview aims to assess how the candidate demonstrates the traits expected from a successful management consultant, including leadership, achieving mentality, and problem-solving skills.

Leadership : the ability to influence other people to work in collaboration. The nature of consultant work is to collaborate in a team and manage a vast network (of industry experts, supporting teams, and clients). Therefore, leadership is one of the essential qualities in management consulting.

Achieve mentality : management consultants never have a work-life balance because the challenges are immense and hard with pressing deadlines. You must do your best to show your ability to deliver the best work under pressure .

Problem-solving skills : consultants must be the best at breaking down business issues into smaller parts to find the root cause. And everything must be data-driven . The whole consulting profession is built on analytical problem-solving ability.

In addition, two particular skills that written case interviews will assess are

In-depth analytic skills : consultants must process an enormous amount of data daily. Therefore, candidates must possess the ability to analyze the information and gain in-depth insights as fast as possible .

Consultant-style pitching presentation : one of the crucial parts of a consultant's daily life is presenting their ideas to their clients. This is the whole point of working as a consultant - you must deliver your solutions to your client in a structured, data-driven manner .

Process of a written case interview

In the written case interview, there are generally four stages that a candidate must go through, including:

Stage 1 : Receive the case

Stage 2 : Prepare slides: hypothesis, insights, evidence and solutions

Stage 3 : Deliver the presentation

Stage 4 : Q&A with the interviewer

case study interview slides

Stage 1: Receive the case

In this stage, the candidates will receive the case and related materials containing all the data. The materials could be printed Powerpoint slides or printed A4 pages. The length of the materials often ranges from 20-40 pages .

Note: Depending on the firms, the case and materials would be given to the candidates on the day of the interview (BGC, Bain) or before the interview day (PwC)

Stage 2: Prepare slides( hypothesis, insights, evidence, and solutions)

The candidates will review all the given materials and select, analyze, and interpret data into insights to back up their hypotheses and recommendations. In this stage, we need to craft presentation slides with the summary, findings, charts, and recommendations   (it could be handwritten or PowerPoint, depending on the firm)

Stage 3: Deliver the presentation

After their preparation stage, candidates will present their findings and recommendations before the interviews. Their presentation should include a case summary, hypothesis, backing-up charts/graphs/insights, and recommendations.

Stage 4: Q&A with the interviewer

The session often lasts about 15-30 minutes , depending on the firms and the interviewers. Usually, the interviewer will ask the candidates questions regarding their findings and challenge their analysis to ensure they fully prepare and understand their findings.

During consulting interviews, interviewers may rigorously question your assumptions or conclusions. This does not necessarily indicate an incorrect answer.

Rather, it is an evaluation of your ability to defend and substantiate your recommendations under pressure.

Written case interview example

BCG, Bain, and Deloitte provide written case interview examples on their official site so that the candidates can have an overview of the written case interview example.

BCG Written Case Example - Chateau Boomerang Case

Deloitte Written Case Example - Footloose Case

Bain Written Case Example - Coffee Shop Co. Case

Bain Written Case Example - FashionCo. Case

However, the resources for written case interviews are limited, so there are alternatives. Since the written case interviews shared similar fundamentals with regular case interviews, you can look at the example of a case interview.

Which firms use written case interviews?

Although becoming less prevalent in consultant recruitment, some firms still employ written case interviews as a part of their recruitment process. Typical firms for using this type of interview are BCG, Bain, PwC, Deloitte

Bain's written case interview

Bain is a prominent consulting firm known for its practice of employing written case interviews as part of its candidate evaluation process. These written cases are frequently included in the final rounds of their interviews.

However, not all candidates applying to Bain undergo written case interviews. This particular interview format is more common in Bain's European and Asian offices, as well as in its Greater China offices , and is less commonly used in North America.

There are some notices about the Bain case interview process you should keep in mind:

  • Question format: candidates will receive  20 - 30 printed slides that provide a business's situation.
  • Response format: Bain will provide 4 - 6 slides that have pre-filled information, some of which may have blank charts or just titles. Candidates need to complete it by doing analysis and calculations.
  • Preparation: candidates have 55 - 60 minutes to review the slides, calculate data and script your recommendations into handwritten slides. Candidates will not be allowed to use the calculator.
  • Presentation: candidates will have 30 - 40 minutes to present their work and answer all of the interviewer's follow-up questions.

BCG written case interview

BCG is another renowned consulting firm that employs written case interviews in select offices, although it's not a universal practice across all locations.

This format is used in certain U.S. offices, as well as in countries like Russia, Sweden, the Netherlands, and South Africa . While the prevalence of written case interviews has decreased, it's still a format you might encounter when interviewing with BCG.

The BCG written case interview have some specific differences compare with Bain:

  • Question format: candidates will receive  40 - 50 printed documents that provide a business's situation and 3–4 main questions they want you to address
  • Response format: BCG will provide blank slides. Candidates need to decide how many slides to make and how to design and organize them properly with their answer
  • Preparation: candidates have 120 minutes to review the slides, calculate data and script your recommendations into handwritten slides. Candidates will be allowed to use the calculator.
  • Presentation: candidates will have 40 - 50 minutes to present their work and answer all of the interviewer's follow-up questions.

PwC written case interview

Among the Big Four consulting firms, PwC stands out for incorporating written case interviews in specific office locations.

Notably, PwC's Strategy& division employs written case interviews during the final round of their assessment process. It's worth noting that PwC's approach to written case interviews differs from other firms in this regard.

Here are some notes on the format of the PwC written case interview:

  • Question format: candidates will receive a stack of documents 48 hours before the interview/presentation that provide a business's situation .
  • Response format: candidates need to make their own PowerPoint slides with their recommendations and backup evidence
  • Preparation: candidates have 2 days to review, analyze and prepare for the slides at home
  • Presentation: candidates will have 20 - 30 minutes to present their work and 15-30 minutes Q&A conversation with the interviewers.

Deloitte written case interview

Deloitte (or Monitor Deloitte) is reported to have written case interviews. However, whether they still have written case interviews in their recruitment process is inconclusive. The Deloitte written case interview format is quite similar to that of Bain.

  • Question format: candidates will receive 15 - 30 printed printed slides that provide a business's situation.
  • Response format: Deloitte will provide blank slides. Candidates need to decide how many slides to make and how to design and organize them properly with their answer
  • Preparation: candidates have 50 - 60 minutes to review the slides, calculate data and script your recommendations into handwritten slides.
  • Presentation: candidates will have a total 40 minutes to present their work and answer all of the interviewer's follow-up questions.

How to prepare for a written case interview

You need good preparation strategies to ace your written case interview and land your consultant offer. There are 6 tips for you to better prepare for your written case interview, including:

Enhance fast reading skills

Practice consulting math.

Craft your data-analyzing skills

Learn the fundamentals of case interview

Learn to make consulting-style slides

Conduct mock case interview

case study interview slides

Your reading speed could save a lot of time in the data-analyzing stage. This is extremely necessary in a written case interview since you have too much information but not much time

As an actual consultant, it is important to scan through the materials quickly to locate and filter the most important information to put into use while being loaded with piles to piles of data.

However, it takes practice to read faster and know what information to note down. We recommend two tips for practicing fast reading.

1. Apply two speed reading techniques: Trackers and Pacers (use an object to guide your eyes in a steady pace and straight movement) and Perceptual Expansion (focus on capturing the full line of sentences rather than word-by-word).

2. Practice with a mock case  to increase your ability to choose what information in the materials you need to notice to support your hypothesis. This helps you improve reading speed and locate the specifically required data faster

Candidates' mental math skills are tested thoroughly and rigorously during interviews because a consultant works with numbers and statistics like an everyday thing.

Although you are allowed to use a calculator, pulling out a calculator every time you need to perform any math is extremely time-consuming, and it certainly doesn't help your professional image during negotiations.

Some first find consulting math difficult, but you may ease into the process while still getting the most out of your practice by using some approaches, like:

Train your brain : Do your daily calculations mentally unless an EXACT response is necessary.

Begin with little steps at first : A piece of scratch paper and a 5% margin of calculation error are helpful; once you are confident, throw away the paper and reduce the margin.

Create a routine : Set aside time each day for math practice ; it can be challenging at first, but once you get beyond the inertia, you'll see the progress.

Read more: Consulting Math Prep Guide

Craft your data-analyzing skill

Data analyzing skill is the foundation of the hypothesis-driven approach in consulting. You process the data to find the root cause, develop a hypothesis and back up your recommendation.

To enhance these skills, one needs to master three data-analyzing processes: Analyze, Contextualize and Interpret.

Analyze : Quickly read and calculate the data presented in the chart/table/graph. Keep in mind the case question to know which data to locate and do the math. For instance, you have to find the data to answer the question, “What is the overall market size?”

Contextualize : Put your understanding into the case's overall context and the current discussion's specific context. A contextualized question could be, “Is the market big enough, given our client’s existing operations?”

Interpret : Present your business insights, and continue the case in the right direction by asking relevant questions. An example of an interpretation is, “The new market seems to be twice as large as our existing market, with the fragmented competition. I would like to test the hypothesis that this is a suitable market to penetrate”.

To enhance your data analyzing skills for your written case interview, you should practice data interpretation skills (reading charts, tables, graphs…) . You can practice more your data interpretation with our Numerical Reasoning Package .

All the fundamental knowledge of regular case interviews is still applied to the written case interview.

This means you must learn all the basic concepts of the case interview, such as issue tree, MECE, structured communication, and hypothesis-driven top-down analysis.

MConsultingPrep offers the Case Interview End-to-End program - which covers all the fundamental concepts, framework, tips, and techniques for your strong foundation to crack the case interview. Check it out now!

Learn to make the perfect consultant-style slides

As an actual consultant, the final product of your work is the presentation slides with all your root-cause findings and recommendations for the case.

In some firms such as MBB, you won't be the one who needs to “decorate” the slides - however, your job is to organize the layout of graphs, tables, findings, and recommendations in “consulting style” so that the slide-makers can create the final product for your client pitching.

We have a whole article on how to craft and present MBB-consulting-style slides . Check it out to learn the step-by-step guide.

After you have understood the fundamentals of a case interview, doing a mock interview is a great approach to get a sense of what to expect in the actual case interview.

Find a former consultant to assist you with your practice; they've gone through countless case interviews, both actual and simulated, and they understand what's expected of a candidate - therefore, they can give you detailed feedback on what you need to improve.

MConsultingPrep now offers a coaching platform for you to connect and practice mock case interviews with ex-MBB-consultant coaches. You will have the chance to get personalized feedback on your strengths and weaknesses and direct guidance to maximize your performance in the written case interview. Book a coach with us now !

Tips for pitching a perfect written case interview

Under the time pressure, there are a lot of things that can go wrong with your presentation. You need an effective strategy to maximize your performance during the pitch of the written case interview.

Tip 1: Have a timing plan for the presentation

During the written case interview, you will not have much time but many tasks to do, thus, you should set a specific time limit for each task to guarantee an effective time management.

When that time limit is about to pass, stop what you're doing (for example, skimming data) and move on to the next (structuring the problem).

With such time pressure, errors are inevitable. Therefore, though a real-time box for each activity would add up to the preparation time for the case, you should allow some time for contingency.

Tip 2: Focus on the question you need to answer

During consulting written case interviews, time is limited, making it impossible to present all your analyses and hypotheses. Thus, you should prioritize addressing the most crucial questions , as they significantly influence your recommendation.

It's crucial to have a clear understanding of the question before delving into the slides since the way you structure your thoughts on each slide affects your final answer.

Ensure that each slide's title should be meaningful and contributes to the logical flow of your entire pitch.

Summarizing your recommendation at the end is essential, your response should weave a cohesive narrative, presenting a unified story rather than isolated answers.

Tip 3: Take note of key information

When you have so much information but time is limited, filtering out the important information you need is a must. Hence, looking for the highlights in the data, and then dig into the proof.

Starting with a clear objective can help you filter out extraneous information and zero in on the data that matters, such as that which provides answers to the case or backs up your results.

Tip 4: Present the solution first

Real consultants do it in their job; their presentations and pitches begin with the conclusions and chart titles with the most critical insights. The clients care little about the procedures; what matters is the outcome.

You are a potential consultant; therefore, maintain the same manner throughout case interviews, particularly written case interviews. Here is the 5-step procedure for you to apply in the written case presentation, including:

Recap the case question.

State your suggestion.

Provide justification for your proposal.

List any risks associated with your proposal.

Retain the customer by recommending the following actions.

Tip 5: Reinforce conclusions with back-up data

When you come to a conclusion during a case interview, it's important to back it up with qualitative and quantitative reasoning.

One mistake some candidates make is they overlook the potential insights that raw data can provide. It is both possible and crucial to substantiate your conclusions using the given data.

In consequence, incorporating numerical data whenever feasible strengthens and avoids making statements lacking support from clearly defined facts or assumptions.

How to crack written case studies

Most case interviews are delivered verbally, where the candidate sits across from the interviewer as they work through the case together. However, some management consulting firms prefer to use written case studies to simulate the experience of carrying out consulting work more closely.

Here’s what to expect from a written case interview, and how to prepare and complete a written case study successfully.

The format of a written case study

In a written case study interview, you’ll be asked to make a recommendation about a specific business problem, just as you would in a traditional case interview.

You’ll be given a series of paper documents (sometimes up to 50 pages), which will include the client context, along with interview insights, press articles, market or company data, and so on. Some of the documents are usually not useful for the resolution of the case, so expect some red herrings!

You’ll have to structure the problem, run some numbers and generate some ideas, just as you would in a verbal case. You’ll then have to deliver your response in the form of a short written presentation.

Depending on the firm and office you’ve applied to join, you may be given a couple of hours to prepare your presentation and then additional time to present and discuss it. Your interviewer will play the role of either the manager or the client.

You might be provided with pencils, pens and a basic calculator. We recommend that you bring along any additional items that you might want to use, such as highlighters or a ruler.

The evaluation criteria

In a written case study, candidates are evaluated on both the content and the form of their presentation. For content, the evaluation criteria will be similar to that of a traditional case study . For form, the evaluation will focus on the quality of the candidate’s slides and oral presentation.

Although candidates are given more time in a written case study than they are in a traditional case interview, the test is generally more difficult to pass. Candidates often fail for seemingly basic reasons, such as not answering the questions directly, preparing inadequate slides, or having errors in their quantitative analysis.

How to perform well in a written case interview

1. organize your time.

When it comes to preparing your response to a written case study, organizing your time carefully is vital.

Begin by reviewing the documentation you’ve been given. Read the case questions thoroughly and then scan the documents to identify the information you’ll need in order to craft your answers. Mark the pages that will be useful for each question and put the other documents to one side.

Then, tackle one question at a time. We recommend beginning with the quantitative question, as it will usually inform your final answer. You can tackle the more creative problems last, as they should be quicker to solve.

As you respond to each question, you should prepare the relevant slides for your presentation. This means that you should start writing your slides during the first half of the allocated preparation time.

2. Start your presentation with an executive summary

A common mistake that many candidates make when tackling written case studies is having too much focus on their analyses in their presentation. As a result, they often neglect to address the overarching client questions.

To avoid making this mistake, start your presentation with an executive summary, in which you:

  • repeat the client questions
  • provide a direct answer
  • list key supporting points

From there, add a slide for each key analysis and wrap up the presentation with a conclusion slide that outlines your recommended next steps.

3. Design professional slides

Even though you’ll be drafting with pen and paper, it’s important that the slides you design in a written case interview are neat, organized and professional:

  • Slides must have straight lines, aligned objects and legible handwriting.
  • They should contain only essential information (remember this is a presentation, not prose).
  • Each slide must have a short title that summarizes the information presented.

Here’s an example:

Example of a slide that includes all the features required in a written case study

Placed in sequence, the titles of your slides should tell a coherent story.

4. Substantiate qualitative conclusions

You should use numerical data as much as possible in your response to the client questions. Ensure that all your statements are supported by well-defined facts or assumptions, and add these details to your presentation as footnotes.

5. Practice written cases as part of your case interview preparation

It’s vital to prepare thoroughly for every aspect of interviewing at a top consulting firm. Written case study examples can be hard to find, so we’ve included several of them – along with solutions – in our Case Library , which is available as part of our Interview Prep Course .

Designed to teach you how to tackle each dimension of the case and fit interviews, the Interview Prep Course contains all the video lectures, sample interviews, case material, and practice tools you’ll need to ace any case interview.
