Example 1 – Architecture and Interior Design Personal Statement

I think my traits of determination, attention to detail, innovation, and passion for design will help me succeed in achieving excellent grades and professional success in architecture and interior design. After earning my bachelor’s degree in Design, I began to consider the potential meaning a room or structure could convey about a person. A lot about a person’s life and temperament may be inferred from their room. That was how my parents would describe it. They were shocked by the chaos in my room every time they came in. And when they remarked, “Rooms can tell a lot about you,” I was unable to understand what they meant. But learning about architecture made it clear to me how significant each building is and how unique each one is. I am confident that I can offer to the education system your university offers due to my extensive knowledge of architecture, strong project-management skills, and profound imagination. My completion of my bachelor’s degree has proven my excellent degree of professional abilities and my rigorous design methods, among other things. I want to pursue a master’s in Architecture and Interior Design programme in order to broaden my experience and understanding in designing ideas.

My abilities to comprehend, analyze, and create exact concepts with creative thinking are my strongest suit. My engineering degree confirms my inclination for reliability, efficiency, and persistence in design, and I can carry these skills together with it. I decided to continue my education because of my enthusiasm and curiosity for the design world. I believe combining interior design and architecture studies will give me a better understanding of how to improve a space’s visual impact. This would be extremely beneficial for my career. The fusion of two powerful disciplines might deliver fantastic outcomes for its clients.

I have enrolled in pertinent courses in this field in order to enhance my knowledge and develop my portfolio. Through these courses, I was able to get a solid foundation in design principles, interior aspects, and diverse approaches. My internships and projects throughout my undergraduate programme have improved my communication, cooperation, organisation, and research skills. Since this field demands both hard and soft skills, I paid attention to improving both.

After attending the xyz advanced Course, I now have effective and professional-grade tools needed to produce interior and architectural representations. I can develop incredible pictures for practical uses by using these professional tools. I have learnt how to work in a manufacturing environment, effectively employ a range of methods and resources to create models, and use Photo editing softwares to recognise architectural principles.

My determination to flourish in the competitive design industry is represented throughout the courses that I’ve taken. I am confident of my capacity to carry a requirement, evaluate the demands, present a pictorial representation, show the final piece, and analyse the results and process. Considering today’s demanding world, my familiarity with business technologies gives me a huge edge over competitors.

I made a conscious decision to excel in this challenging and quickly changing domain of design by blending my clear architectural and practical designing abilities with my passion for imaginative design. I was driven to push my limits and accomplish more by my creativity and innate curiosity. By doing this course, I wish to pave the way for a future in which I can work as an interior designer and architect for any major firm in India. I intend to establish my own interior design business once I’ve accumulated the expertise and resources necessary. I believe my credentials and skills make me a strong applicant who is eager to achieve success in this program and in the future.

Example 2 – Interior Design Personal Statement

I have always been someone who continuously changed the appearance of my bedroom. I would add different items I have made and rearrange the furniture in my room to vary the appearance. I never seemed to be happy with how my room looked, according to my parents. I was constantly altering it. Actually, I liked solving the little hurdles my room presented. I look forward to discovering more about the impacts of western art and culture as I grow older since it will help me develop my own vision. I became acquainted with the design world due to my degree in Decorating Art and Design. I was able to better grasp designing through working in a variety of teams, developing concepts, and seeing them through to completion.

I really enjoy understanding how design affects how people behave. This interior design master’s programme can be helpful in learning more about the subject on a more comprehensive level. Understanding international design and current events is essential since the curriculum offers a wider viewpoint. So, in order to broaden the area of my academic studies, I began reading creative interior periodicals. I expanded my knowledge of the world through reading magazines and journals, watching interior design programmes, and attending seminars. These had a big influence on my designs. I want to build a career through this course that will enable me to accomplish more in life.

After earning my degree, I spent two months working for an interior design firm. As an intern, I helped the team leaders with planning and designing. Besides that, I realised that an interior designer needs to be a master communicator in order to comprehend their clients’ needs and meet them. This is in addition to having strong technical skills. Also, I had the chance to work individually with a client in this company. The customer enthusiastically endorsed my designs and ordered them for production. I’ve never felt as content and delighted as I did when my designs started to come to life. Since that moment, I’ve made every effort to devote my attention in the field as it brings me the most joy.

My ability to communicate with people from very different places and communities is made possible by my proficiency in Hindi, English, Tamil, and Malayalam. As a result of my encounters with these clients, my works have become more inventive and fruitful. One of the key aspects of this field that I find most appealing is the chance for personal growth. There is always room for improvement, and by enrolling in this programme, I expect to discover additional chances to socialise with others and discover other cultures.

Painting and dancing are two ways I like to use my leisure time to showcase my talent. I establish long goals with myself and make a conscious effort to achieve them both emotionally and physically. I take the same attitude for my academics, properly organizing my time and giving every task my complete focus so that it is done to the highest of my ability. With this mind-set, I will be able to meet the challenges of university education.

Spaces, in my opinion, can significantly impact our lives. Through this course, I hope to change and enhance people’s lives. I want to work as an interior designer in the future, and I want to create spaces that draw people in and inspire them. In addition to utilizing my abilities, I want to impress the company I will be working for. I feel my passion and insight of this subject make me a qualified candidate for the Interior Design degree offered by your respected university.

Interior Design: Personal Statement

1. introduction to interior design.

1. Introduction Interior design is one of those subjects that have increasingly attracted the interest of scholars of design theories and history and extended to related objects, including architectural design and design in general. Initially, interior design mainly focused on the aspects of maximizing functional spaces, but now its roles have grown to a wide domain of functions and aspects. In addition to practical, psychological, emotional, and symbolic aspects, more and more research has noticed its wide applications in addressing sustainability issues. Yet, because of its specific functions and meanings, interior design is always considered as a subset field in architecture or design field. Furthermore, many design researchers analyze the design of physical environments, but few present the designer's perspective. Having interest in the real practice of interior design, we aim to explore these aspects mentioned above from the interior designer's perspective. The subchapter of this paper is organized as follows. First of all, literature relative to interior design will be summarized. Gaining from this, researchers and practitioners can have a clear understanding of its roles in design. Then, the role of personal statement from a contemporary interior designer's standpoint will be addressed, which purpose of addressing and particularity of statement in this field will be given. Consistent with potential roles, we hope that in the end, the designer's design concept as well as education training can benefit and, in turn, help to implement the potential roles of interior design. In a later stage of the project, the approaches that can cultivate the mentioned personal statement would be explored. Thereafter, we expect that the new exploration will respond to research questions and contribute to the current knowledge of interior design from a particular aspect.

1.1. Definition and Scope

A yelp of imaginative expression, together with experimental vision, creates an identity of professionals. Often, in the design fields, one constructs an expressive self through personal statements. The personal statement in the design field would be different than a personal vision statement in that the planner articulates his/her commitment to work, versus a statement of how one will personally grow through the program. Design personal statements explicate understanding of design, approach towards creation, and innovative ideas that would be explored within the program, and what the reader should know more about the future designer. Awareness of the audience's expectations is crucial in writing the personal statement. Unlike a personal statement for general/multiple fields, writing for the design profession involves expressing the candidates' knowledge and what kind of originality would contribute to and expand the field of design. Sharing through documented evidence of past accomplishments illustrates current thinking and execution abilities that are necessary in the program. A comprehensive personal statement also lays a creative connection with the admissions review, articulating one's abilities for eligibility criteria, and in return, the review of individual applicants, past legacy, and promise for the farther page history in the field. Personal statements must fulfill the same demands as the other required components.

2. Importance of Personal Statement in Interior Design

Importance of Personal Statement in Interior Design. The personal statement is the most important part of the application. While the statement should clearly and efficiently describe why you want to study interior design, it should also emphasize how you will contribute to the program. The superior portfolio will have a professional appearance, demonstrate creativity, original thinking, technical skill, and the potential to develop as a designer. The purpose of the portfolio is to provide a tangible document that demonstrates your design abilities. It should include enough biographical information to give insight into the candidate's personality, intentions, and design process. Prepare a written statement that can describe your immediate and long-range goals, special interests, and aspects of interior design that make you feel most committed, and a shared reasoned interest in attending the program at this particular university. The essay should be limited to a maximum of two pages (500 words). The applicant's interest in the field of interior design and why he or she would be the best candidate to enter the program. Include the applicant's explanation of why the University of Arkansas' Interior Design Program would be the best to prepare the student for future professional experiences. The written statement gives insight into the candidate's educational direction, design philosophy, and experiences that have shaped the candidate's development.

2.1. Reflecting Personal Style and Vision

Interior design is a diverse field that requires significant understanding of design trends as well as an ability to influence individual tastes and ideas. What makes a professional interior designer truly unique and identifiable stands in its personal style and vision for art. While a wide array of factors can limit the enrichment of professional individuality in interior design, personal statement emerges as a valuable tool that can compensate for such problems. It is with such emphasis on the role and importance of the personal statement in interior design that we hope to underscore the true value of identity in the design world as well as possibly offer insight into the practical use of the personal statement. With these theoretical arguments in mind, the purpose of this paper is to identify the relevant historical, doctrinal, and practical principles surrounding the personal statement in interior design. The mission of interior design, according to the American Society of Interior Designers, is to "enhance the function, safety, and quality of life, and culture of the interior spaces in which people live, work, and play through the ability to analyze and present spatial aesthetics, equal consideration for safety codes and standards, the creation of comprehensive designs—space planning, finish and furniture selection and soft and hard goods, coordination professions as Director of Furniture Cluster." While such a generalized principle is suitable to define interior design in contemporary terms, the divulgation of interior design standards sheds some light upon the deeply art-centered and personal role that interior designers seek into architecture and space planning. Specifically, the understanding of space needs on an aesthetic, functional (spatial requirements), security (building codes, legislation, and expert analysis), and interior lighting levels, where applicable, seem detached from the creative tasks that provided the self-identity of interior design.

3. Guidelines for Writing an Effective Personal Statement

An interior design personal statement is quite different from a statement of purpose for other disciplines. It is difficult to define what works in an interior design personal statement; a statement becomes too personal and, on the other hand, doesn't present individual personality. In other words, it is not an easy task trying to explain passion and enthusiasm. Nevertheless, a good interior design personal statement provides a strong justification of why you are attracted to this discipline and how well you are suited to studying it at university, at a personal level as well as a philosophical and theoretical one. 1. Write using your own words but borrow ideas and concepts from others. Write natural English but show off a little to demonstrate that you have an excellent command of English vocabulary, grammar, etc. 2. Convey a genuine desire and enthusiasm for the subject. Stay natural and relaxed – don't try to impress the reader with demonstrative phrases or concepts. Show excitement and commitment instead! And where is your common sense? Stay honest by only making a commitment that you can honor. Only write about issues that genuinely interest you with all your heart, otherwise, the reader will see through your writing! 3. Provide fresh and original pieces of writing from your own brain. Do not attempt to patch up bits and pieces of other students' statements quoted in books or websites. The final personal statement must reflect your unique qualities compared to other students. Do not go empty-pocketed: collect ample material to create a multi-human layered approach that reflects your involvement in interior design. Do not repeat quotes though. Reflect on how much depth they add to your argument. 4. Do not scribble and lose the point. Clearly read the topic of the personal statement to set a framework and goals for the study: this will also help expand the preparation materials you have absorbed. Be open-minded but not cryptic. 5. And do not be negative. You should project a positive attitude; a proactive and intelligent image. Avoid sounding demoralizing or overly critical about life or academia: life is not about moaning. Try to communicate in an intelligent and mature way, to show you are capable of contributing effectively and productively to further studies at university. Your tone should be professional. 6. Proofread your writing. Ensure your text does not contain spelling or grammatical errors. A less organized organization of ideas is better than a completely flawless one.

3.1. Showcasing Relevant Experiences and Skills

If you aspire to become a professional interior designer, a personal statement plays a vital role in communicating your skills to institutions efficiently. It lets you showcase your relevant experiences and expertise, thus making the selection process faster and easier. Moreover, this will allow universities and companies to see if you have taken any initiative by interning or pursuing relevant courses. This is an impressive move that always equals you to have an impressive professional relationship with the faculty members. A background that includes relevant experiences will imply to the institution that you are into interior designing for the love of the job and not because of social pressure. It portrays your soft skills such as communication and reporting due to the regular professional contact with the supervisor. Do you want to show your interest in the different aspects of the application module but cannot arrange the words in a stylish streamlined manner? Let our professional personal statement expert help you. The personal statement should give background knowledge of skills you have gained from the work experience or internship. It can also describe the skills you look forward to learning. For instance, you could have interned in a hotel for three months working on interior design projects, or dealt with clients directly and helped them in navigating through several print and electronic media choices. This will make the admission department focus on your ability to organize, multitask, work with a team, reply to criticism as well as quickly safeguarding your work. The personal statement lets the institution know the steps you have taken to familiarize yourself with the field. Moreover, the coursework might seem tough, but they will be supportive and help you through it since they already know that you are looking for a degree in the subject because it is of big interest to you.

4. Case Studies and Examples

The following case studies provide evidence from the practitioner's observation of understanding of the role of teaching and learning in enabling students to demonstrate their abilities in an appropriate manner. These are drawn from the disciplines of interior design and fashion design. The first case, from interior design, covers evidence that addresses the topic of establishing confidence in our students. The second case, from fashion design, provides evidence that focuses on the curricular factors, where confidence is seen as being established during team-based design activity. 4.1. Case 1: Establishing confidence within future professionals through the writing of personal statements 4.1.1. Background The Department of Interior and Architectural Design at the University of Canberra is responsible for delivery of the Bachelor of Interior Architecture program. The academic associate coordinates the activities of the second year. A range of disciplinary-based skills was developed across the first and second year of the program, with studio-based skills being the main focus. As is the case with many similar programs, development of these disciplinary-based skills is often more successful when infrequent, overt reinforcement or validation is provided by a third party. Such feedback helps the student to develop independent, valid self-assessment of capability. These validated self-assessment skills help the student make informed decisions concerning their learning pathway. Students in the Department of Interior and Architectural Design's programs were seen as lacking these self-assessment and positive decision-making skills. It came to the attention of program management that, as a result, student confidence waned into their graduation year. The resulting work produced by these students was often seen as being pedestrian. The pedagogies of teaching, learning, and assessment as they applied to studio practice have arguably met students' needs in this regard. The situation presented sparks the question: To what extent do the post-studio pedagogies of teaching, learning, and assessment continue to be responsible for the students' action research and independent study including their capstone project?

4.1. Analyzing Successful Personal Statements

The biggest question I am sure most of you have is some version of "How can I make my personal statement more successful?" Although I can't answer that for you since I haven't seen your personal statement yet, I can offer you some perspectives on what the most successful personal statements did. Believe these are multiple contexts on which to found success, and that doesn't mean you have to accomplish all of them; it just means these are some tools that past successful applicants have employed. 4.1.1. The Importance of Articulation Some of the most compelling aspects of the personal statements included in our analysis were the ability of the writer to articulate a viewpoint. They were generally "easily read" in the sense that the prose was clear and the sentences were generally grammatical and easily parsed. A successful personal statement could also be described as recognizable. Being able to articulate one's thoughts is unique to an applicant; this required a writer to put a lot of thought into what can be easily written. Due to this strength, a committee could easily understand not only an applicant’s point of view but what characteristics set them apart from other applicants. Not that it is important just to write but to write with insight and clarity, course content or past experiences weren't explicitly required but could and did support ideas. The statement was well developed and highly effective, it allowed needed context in order for the committee to understand the backbone of an applicant. A context for their professional development that helped portray why they had applied to the program in the first place wasn't necessarily present in every successful application but was a part of enough applications to be common at the successful level. Successful personal statements seemed to allow committees a look at the applicant in a professional and intellectual context.

Often times, I can enter an open room and simply visualize the possibilities of what that space can be. I possessed this knack from a young age. I found a thrill from organising spaces in a unique and creative manner. Much to my parents’ chagrin, Martha Stewart and Mary Kondo were my idols. As I grew, I start conceptualising about how a space can be used and endless possibilities for remodelling and expansion. After watching countless interior design shows and amassing a vast collection of Architectural Digest and Better Homes & Gardens, I realized my true passion lay in interior design. I would like to apply to the Interior Design program at University X because it will equip me with the skills and tools I need to design liveable and sustainable spaces.

In high school, I had the opportunity to complete an internship at Perfect Designs. The experience gave me a unique sense of satisfaction that I have never experienced before. Imagine being able to create a space that fulfils both form and function, while enhancing a person’s well-being. That’s what interior design means to me. As an intern, I assisted with showing room layouts and drawings to potential clients. I loved interacting with prospective customers, determining their needs, and translating it into something tangible through sketches and drawings. It was also exciting, learning about a client’s vision for the room and transforming it into something doable. It was a unique and rare opportunity when I acquired the chance to create interpretative drawings of my own using SketchUp Pro. The software brought to life what I was envisioning. In one occasion, I used my drawing on the virtual reality platform, Microsoft HoloLens. I was able to literally walk through a project that I was working on. More importantly, it enabled the client to see my ideas come to life. Although this internship position was for only three months, it was instrumental in harnessing my creative and analytical energies. I decided that this something I want to do lifelong.

After graduating high school, I decided to pursue the Bachelor of Architecture with a specialisation in Computer-Aided Design degree at the National Institute of Technology in Calicut. This specialisation expanded my skills in using CAD software. I learned how to draft precise drawings and technical illustrations. In addition, the subjects Architectural Drawings, Design Applications, and Architectural Appreciation were my favourite. For my thesis, I examined suburban homes for modern families and how to incorporate sustainable building practices. My thesis was much appreciated by my professors. I graduated from the architecture program in XXXX with an X CGPA. While I waiting to hear a response from potential employers, I continued to enhance my design expertise by taking additional certification courses such as Computer Aided Interior Design, SketchUp, and Floor Planner.

In addition to my academic pursuits, I love exploring museums and historical edifices. I enjoy examining how spaces were utilised in various historical periods. What fascinates me is how design is reinvented in every generation. During this time, I started delving into notable architects who transformed the face of design. The likes of Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier, and Frank Gehry, caught my attention. I loved how they were able to extend design beyond the limits of imagination.

Five months after graduation, I was hired as an Assistant Designer at BG Design Studio. In this role, I visualized and sketched design plans according to the client’s requirements. I learned how to source materials and products for projects. I also improved in determining costs and overseeing projects to ensure that it was on track and met the requirements of the client. I have worked at this studio for the past two years and loved every moment. I have reached a pinnacle in my career where I want to expand my acumen in planning and product design. This prompted me to search for design courses that offer this expertise, which eventually helped me discover the program at your university.

By attending the Interior Design program at your renowned institution, I will get a chance to hone my skills and talents in organisation and planning. I will be exposed to some of the most talented and creative professionals in this field. To learn from these experts is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity itself. After graduating from the program, I aspire to work at top tier architectural firms in India such as X, Y, and Z. I believe that with my unique skills in planning and product design, I will be a unique and creative asset to any firm. In the future, I envision seeking my master’s degree in architecture and design. I would also like to be a part of academia and teach budding designers.

The opportunity to study the interior design program at your university will serve as a launching pad for bright and rewarding career for me in interior design.

Interior Design Personal Statement

Sample Interior Design Personal Statement

From an early age, I was constantly transforming my bedroom into a range of different looks. I enjoyed working around the challenges posed by rooms which were not simple rectangles, and using soft furnishings to add layers of texture. Having grown up in China, I look forward to learning more about Western cultural influences, and the synthesis this can form with my own inspirations. In Britain, people typically think of ‘Made in China’, but it is my ambition to transform this perception to ‘Designed in China’.

I recently majored in Decoration Art Design at Shandong Vocational College of Industry (Equivalent to UK A-level). This mostly consisted of team projects working through the entire design process, from conceptual ideas to technical drawings, to researching consumer needs, appropriate materials and finance, and then producing our end-products. For one project I designed a successful office layout, for which I scored top in my class. In 2008, alongside my college studies I completed a part-time course in Visual Communication at China Central Academy of Fine Arts. I particularly enjoyed learning about The impact of design on people’s behaviour. I look forward to learning more about this fascinating area at degree level

Beyond the scope of my academic studies, I love reading innovative interior design magazines such as ‘Wallpaper’. I have already had some exposure to British designs through TV shows such as Grand Designs. Watching professionals at work inspires my designs. My ultimate goal is to design a full smart house, with a fully automatic floor that responds and enables you to move positions at the push of a button.

I have supplemented my academic interests with practical experience working at an interior design company last summer. I worked independently to design a new open plan house for a small client. I learnt that in additional to creative flair and technical ability, a good designer must possess excellent communication skills in order to listen to the customer and understand their vision. My designs at this company successfully secured the customer’s approval and were put into creation. I enjoyed visiting the finished room and seeing my ideas transformed into reality.

My language skills (I speak native Chinese, advanced English and basic Japanese) enable me to interact with people from very different cultures, which will help my designs be varied and diverse. I enjoy meeting new people and look forward to moving to the UK to study .

In my spare time I enjoy expressing my creative side through painting, singing and dancing. I also swim throughout the year to build my fitness and will power. I set myself distance goals and then mentally and physically commit myself to meeting them. I apply this same approach to my studies, planning my time carefully and fully dedicating myself to ensure every task is completed to the best of my ability. This attitude will enable me to rise to the challenges faced by university study. Thank you for taking the time to consider my application, I look forward to hearing from you.

We hope this sample of an Interior Design Personal Statement has been help for you.

Ideas for Writing an Interior Design Personal Statement

Quality Is the Major Tenet of Our Philosophy!

Forgetting about quality is the right way to nonsuccess.

Creative Ideas for a Catchy Interior Design Personal Statement

With the rapidly increasing demand of getting admission in an interior design course of a well-reputed institute, the competition among applicants has also become higher. To make space in the shortlisted applications for securing admission in the desired institute of interior design, it is highly advisable to hire the services of a professional service that can provide you a unique and creative interior design personal statement. In fact, a personal statement is the only way to prove an applicant, a right candidate for the interior design course. Following are some creative ideas to write a catchy interior design personal statement:

Your personal statement for interior architecture and design is your chance to make a good impression on your readers. Writing a generic paper won’t help which is why it is best that you look for a unique approach to your personal statement. No doubt, the basic structure of a personal statement cannot be changed but the format of your personal statement for interior design should be unique because the selection committee expects something exclusive from you to judge your artistic abilities and personal statement is the only forum through which you can prove your ability.

Admissions officers would like to know what makes you the ideal candidate for the program. Talk about your skills that best represents how qualified you are for this program. You must highlight your expertise and some extraordinary work relevant to your interior designing skills. This thing you should do in the beginning of your personal statement to convince the readers to stay at your personal statement.

You don’t have to write long and winding sentences to show your readers that you are adept in writing. What’s important is that you get straight to the point so you won’t waste your readers’ time. Remember! There is no space to use the complex language and include the unnecessary details in your personal statement. No one has time to translate your language and ultimately your application will get negative remarks.

Your personal statement should be written in a professional tone as befitting this course. Even if you will be adding personality to your writing, don’t forget to write professionally.

To write an inspiring and winning interior design personal statement, it is highly recommended to take inspiration from already winning interior design statement examples.

Don’t forget to follow the essay format when writing your interior design essay. Your paper should have an introduction, body, as well as conclusion so your readers will understand the flow of your statement.

What Cliches You Should Avoid

  • Don’t start your interior design personal statement by explaining your history and background.
  • There is no need to start the personal statement by writing the quote of a famous personality. Readers will think it just wastage of time to read these quotes.
  • Always avoid including obvious clichés in your statement such as “From my childhood, since I was ten years old etc…
  • You should never include unproven statements or claims about yourself such as “I am sure that I am highly motivated person” etc.
  • Don’t include idioms and phrases again and again your personal statement.
  • You must have to avoid lies, plagiarism and exaggerations in your personal statement.

Interior Designer Personal Statement Examples

ORDER PAPER LIKE THIS

After a hard day of work, every person longs for peace and quiet, for the sound of closing the door from the inside and becoming one with the peaceful refuge that is called home. However, not all homes provide the same amount of this soothing emotion, so essential to human happiness. Some homes lack color, vibrancy, emotions, life, that delightfully cozy essence. This is the reason why I decided to become an interior designer, to be able to help people make their home a true place of refuge and contentment, where their field of vision would rest on soothing images that warm the heart.

I remember being little and having crayons scattered all across my room. My mother would always scorn me about having them like that, but seeing them, the mere thought of knowing that there exists something as beautiful as colors and that my imagination has the power to create multihued pictures on papers and canvases simply astonished me, even as a small child. Art has always been a part of me. I have always felt a certain sensibility to colors and vibrancy of shades all around me, in the falling autumn leaves, in the frozen lake I used to visit when I was a child, in the delightfully buoyant kitchen of my mother, with tinted, red tiles and daisies on them, hanging from the walls. It is as if I have been looking at life through glasses which not only enhanced colors, but with it, enhanced the quality of life itself.

Currently, I am a city college student, who has established plans of transferring next year. Before college, I took art class in high school, and was quite successful at it. I thoroughly enjoyed entering art shows and contests, though it was more about participating than winning. The mere idea of presenting my art to other people was sufficient to make me content, due to the fact that other artists and their work inspires me a great deal, and they motivate me to delve deeper into my own inspiration. Having started college, I took several, art-related courses, which taught me a lot about art in general and have made me realize the profound desire I have of pursuing the career of an interior designer. Courses such as drawing, 2D design and sculpture also had a deep effect on me, as I took art into my own hands. I drew, I sculpted and I created art. This is a feeling that cannot be compared to anything else in the world. I felt like stumbling onto a profound truth, such as the one Georgia O’Keeffe states: “I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way – things I had no words for.” Consequently, I took classes in art history, which funneled my knowledge forward, and I started to comprehend the immense role art has in affecting society and culture.

In addition, I was a volunteer art teacher, teaching children to make traditional Chinese art, calligraphy and paper cards. This proved to be an invaluable experience, as children find it so effortless to express themselves artistically. They have no inhibitions, they do not question their adequacy, and rather create for the sake of creation itself. This is what true art is about, not caring whether someone will like what you created or not. That is irrelevant. What does matter is that you expressed your thoughts, wishes and dreams in the most beautiful manner possible.

The reason I chose interior design is because it intertwines art with every day, human life. It not only possesses an aesthetic characteristic, but it also satisfies an essential human need and creates a function within itself. If properly applied, it offers a soothing experience not only to the human soul, but to all the senses: a warm red oozing from the carpet, a mild blue pacifying the mind, a gentle green caressing the vision, and warm memories flooding the heart. After all, isn’t that what we all need?

Architecture Personal Statement Examples

interior design personal statement examples

What is an architecture personal statement?

Your architecture personal statement should tell the university all about your strengths, skills, experience and ambitions.

It should also convey your enthusiasm for architecture and what aspects of the subject you enjoy and why.

How do I write an architecture personal statement?

It’s a good idea to start your statement with why you want to study architecture at university. Try to choose a specific aspect that you like in particular and why it appeals to you.
