This thesis by publication is devoted to the study of the observational constraints on cosmological inflationary models, and to the investigation of fundamental aspects related to the quantum nature of the inflationary physics. Inflation is an early phase of accelerated expansion taking place at very high energy.

The thesis is structured as follows. Chapter 2 is an introduction to cosmic inflation, with an emphasis on the connection between cosmological observations and the inflaton potential. In chapter 3, we study the Higgs field and its quantum-corrected potential, both with and without the non-minimal coupling.
