koala

Is a koala a bear?

Though sometimes called a koala bear, the koala is not a bear. The koala is actually a type of tree-dwelling marsupial, with a backwards-facing pouch, like wombats.

How long do koalas live?

Koalas can live to about 15 years of age in the wild and somewhat longer in captivity.

Where are koalas found?

Koalas are found in eastern Australia. Their habitats require the eucalyptus trees on which they feed and in which they live.

Koalas eat the leaves of certain eucalyptus trees . A koala can digest as much as 1.3 kg (3 pounds) of leaves daily, and it has an intestinal pouch about 2 metres (7 feet) long, where symbiotic bacteria degrade the tannins and other toxic and complex substances abundant in eucalyptus. This diet is relatively poor in nutrients.

Are koalas an endangered species?

Koalas are considered a vulnerable species. Their population was decimated from hunting for their fur during the 1900s, and koalas are still in danger from human encroachment upon and destruction of their habitats as well as disease. Chlamydia, which infects many koala populations, makes the female koalas infertile.

Recent News

koala , ( Phascolarctos cinereus ), tree-dwelling marsupial of coastal eastern and southern Australia classified in the family Phascolarctidae (suborder Vombatiformes). Due to the animal’s superficial resemblance to a small bear , the koala is sometimes referred to, albeit erroneously, as the koala bear.

The koala is about 60 to 85 cm (24 to 33 inches) long and weighs up to 14 kg (31 pounds) in the southern part of its range ( Victoria and South Australia ) but only about half that in subtropical Queensland to the north. Virtually tailless, the body is stout and gray, with a pale yellow or cream-coloured chest and mottling on the rump. The broad face has a wide, rounded, leathery nose, small yellow eyes , and big fluffy ears. The feet are strong and clawed; the two inner digits of the front feet and the innermost digit of the hind feet are opposable for grasping.

The cheetah is the fastest land animal over short distances. It has become an endangered species in Africa, and is almost extinct in Asia. Cheetah mother with young. Cheetah cubs

The koala feeds very selectively on the leaves of certain eucalyptus trees . Generally solitary , individuals move within a home range of more than a dozen trees, one of which is favoured over the others. If koalas become too numerous in a restricted area, they defoliate preferred food trees and, unable to subsist on even closely related species , decline rapidly. To aid in digesting as much as 1.3 kg (3 pounds) of leaves daily, the koala has an intestinal pouch ( cecum ) about 2 metres (7 feet) long, where symbiotic bacteria degrade the tannins and other toxic and complex substances abundant in eucalyptus. This diet is relatively poor in nutrients and provides the koala little spare energy, so the animal spends long hours simply sitting or sleeping in tree forks, exposed to the elements but insulated by thick fur. Although placid most of the time, koalas produce loud, hollow grunts.

The koala is the only member of the family Phascolarctidae . Unlike those of other arboreal marsupials, its pouch opens rearward. Births are single, occurring after a gestation of 34 to 36 days. The youngster (called a joey ) first puts its head out of the pouch at about five months of age. For up to six weeks it is weaned on a soupy predigested eucalyptus called pap that is lapped directly from the mother’s anus. Pap is derived from the cecum . After weaning, the joey emerges completely from the pouch and clings to the mother’s back until it is nearly a year old. A koala can live to about 15 years of age in the wild, somewhat longer in captivity.

Studies suggest that there are five distinct populations of koalas, which began to diverge from one another sometime between 300,000 and 430,000 years ago. Formerly killed in huge numbers for their fur , especially during the 1920s and ’30s, koalas dwindled in number from several million to a few hundred thousand, which substantially reduced the species’s genetic diversity and that of four of the five individual populations, making the species susceptible to inbreeding . In the southern part of their range, koalas became practically extinct , except for a single genetically diverse population in Gippsland , Victoria. Some were translocated onto small offshore islands, especially Phillip Island , where they did so well that these koalas were used to restock much of the original range in Victoria and southern New South Wales . During the same period, some koalas were also introduced to Kangaroo Island , and later (during the 1950s and ’60s) additional animals were introduced to several other coastal habitats in South Australia. Though once again widespread, koala populations and subpopulations are now scattered and separated by urban areas and farmland, which makes them locally vulnerable to extinction . Another problem is the infection of many populations with Chlamydia , which makes the females infertile.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) has listed the koala as a vulnerable species since 2016. The species decreased in number by nearly 28 percent between the years 1984 and 2012, largely because of habitat loss and fragmentation, which made the animal more susceptible to vehicle strikes and predation by dogs . Devastating drought and bushfires during the late 2010s also contributed to the decline in the number of koalas, reducing the total by an additional 30 percent between 2018 and 2021. Some 60,000 koalas were killed or injured during the “Black Summer” (the Australian bushfire season of 2019–2020) alone. As temperatures increase and the drying effects of climate change become more pronounced in Australia, wildlife officials expect that the number of koalas will decline further in the coming decades.

Koalas are marsupials, related to kangaroos.

Most marsupials have pouches where the tiny newborns develop. A koala mother usually gives birth to one joey at a time. A newborn koala is only the size of a jelly bean. Called a joey, the baby is blind, naked, and earless. As soon as it's born, this tiny creature makes its way from the birth canal to its mother's pouch. Using the two well-developed senses it's born with—smell and touch—along with its strong front legs and claws and an instinct that tells it which direction to head, the baby koala reaches the pouch. There it stays, safely tucked away, growing and developing for about seven months.

After a baby has been in the pouch for about six months, its mother begins to produce a special substance called pap. The joey feeds on this in addition to the milk it's already getting. Pap comes from the mother's intestines and contains bacteria that the joey needs to have in its own intestines so that it can digest an adult diet of eucalyptus leaves.

At about seven months, the joey leaves the pouch to eat leaves, but returns to it to nurse. By the time the joey is about one year old, it stops nursing and eats just leaves.

What is the koala?

The koala is an iconic Australian animal. Often called the koala “bear,” this tree-climbing animal is a marsupial—a mammal with a pouch for the development of offspring.

Though koalas look fuzzy, their hair is more like the coarse wool of a sheep. They have two opposing thumbs on their hands, and both their feet and hands have rough pads and claws to grab onto branches. They have two toes, fused together , on their feet, which they use to comb their fur.

Habitat, behavior, and diet

Koalas live in the eucalyptus forests of southeastern and eastern Australia. When not sleeping, they’re usually eating. They rely on the eucalyptus tree for both habitat and food. Koalas can eat more than a pound of eucalyptus leaves a day. Eucalyptus is toxic, so the koala’s digestive system has to work hard to digest it, breaking down the toxins and extracting limited nutrients.

That’s why koalas sleep so much— they get very little energy from their diet. Tucked into forks or nooks in the trees, koalas may sleep for 18 to 22 hours.

Koalas usually don’t drink much water as they get most of their moisture from these leaves. Koalas can even store leaves in their cheek pouches for later. They eat so much eucalyptus that they often take on its smell .

Threats to survival

Koala numbers plummeted in the late 19th and early 20th century from hunting for their fur. Now they face serious threats from habitat loss. Land clearing, logging , and bushfires—especially the devastating 2019-2020 season —have destroyed much of the forest they live in. Koalas need a lot of space—about a hundred trees per animal—a pressing problem as Australia's woodlands continue to shrink.

Koalas are listed as vulnerable by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, which has named the species one of 10 animals most vulnerable to climate change . Increasing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is decreasing the nutritional quality of eucalyptus leaves (which is already quite low) and causing longer, more intense droughts and wildfires. In response to drought, koalas are forced to stop napping and come down from the trees to find water , spending precious energy and putting them at a higher risk of predation.

Predators include dingoes and large owls . They’re also at risk of getting hit by cars and attacked by dogs. Chlamydia is widespread in some koala populations and can cause blindness, infertility, and sometimes death .

Conservation

Koalas lost substantial portions of their habitat in the 2019-2020 bushfire season and have been identified by the Australian government as one of 113 animals requiring urgent help . Wildlife hospitals, rescue organizations, zoos, and volunteers have stepped up to care for injured koalas, with the goal of rehabilitating and releasing them back into the wild.

Ensuring there’s the right kind of forest for them to return to is a priority. Though there are some koala sanctuaries and reserves, many live on private, unprotected land. There are conservation efforts by the Australia Zoo and others to buy large tracts of land to set aside for koalas, and state governments are also creating new koala reserves . Campaigns urging landowners not to cut down eucalyptus trees are also ongoing.

Research is another important component of conservation efforts. Understanding koala genetics, mating choices, and health will shed light on koala biology that’s important for developing plans to better protect the species.

Introduction

The Koala is one of Australia's best-known animals.

Identification

The Koala's thick ash-grey fur, white chest and round head with fluffy ears make this species unmistakable.

The Koala lives in eucalypt forests.

Distribution

The Koala has a patchy distribution from northern Queensland to southern Victoria and south-eastern South Australia. The Koala is no longer common in the Sydney region, although a significant population remains on the southern outskirts. Clearing and fragmentation of its habitat for housing developments and farming continues to significantly reduce its distribution.

Feeding and diet

The Koala has a highly specialised diet made up of the leaves of certain species of eucalypts as well as some flowers and stems. The eucalypt leaves are high in fibre and the Koala has a long caecum (part of the large intestine) to aid with digestion. The leaves also have a high moisture content.

Other behaviours and adaptations

Most of the Koala's time is spent in eucalypt trees sleeping and feeding, although occasionally it travels along the ground like its closest relatives, the wombats.

Breeding behaviours

The Koala is solitary and the larger males have scent glands on their chest. Breeding occurs during summer and usually one baby, or joey, is produced each year. After six months in the pouch, the joey is gradually weaned from milk, to leaves and soft liquid faeces, called pap, from the mother. This is thought to provide the right bacteria needed to digest eucalypt leaves.

Conservation status

Koala populations in New South Wales, Queensland and the ACT are listed as Endangered under the federal Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 .

Koalas: Facts About Iconic Marsupials

koala face

Koalas are tree-hugging marsupials with big, round ears and black oval noses. They are an iconic symbol of Australia, the only place in the world where they are found. Like kangaroos, wombats and opossums, koalas have pouches in which they carry their newborns. Koalas spend most of their time sleeping and eating.

They are often called koala bears, but that is incorrect. Koalas are not bears at all. Both animals are mammals, so they are distantly related. However, koalas are more closely related to kangaroos and wombats. They got the "bear" tagline from English-speaking settlers in the late 18th century because of the koala's bearlike appearance and behavior. The mistake is reflected in the name of the genus, Phascolarctos , which is derived from Greek phaskolos , "pouch," and arktos , "bear."

Size & appearance

Koalas are 2 to 3 feet (60 to 85 centimeters) tall when fully grown. Their weight varies, depending on where the koala lives. Northern koalas weigh around 9 to 19 lbs. (4 to 8.5 kilograms) and southern koalas weigh around 15 to 29 lbs. (7 to 13 kg). Typically, males weigh 50 percent more than females, according to San Diego Zoo .

Koalas range in color from slate gray to reddish brown, according to Sea World . Koala fur isn't as soft as it looks. It is very coarse, like wool. This fur repels water to keep them dry in the rain.

Koalas have large, sharp claws to assist with climbing tree trunks. Their hands and feet are built to curl around tree branches very tightly. Their hands have two opposable thumbs, providing better gripping ability.

Koalas have big, fluffy ears and an excellent sense of hearing. Because they have poor eyesight, koalas generally detect predators by sound, according to the Australian Zoo . They have an even better sense of smell, which helps them select which leaves are best to eat.

Where do koalas live?

Koalas live in southeastern and eastern Australia — in the states of Queensland, new South Wales, South Australia and Victoria — in the eucalyptus forests and woodlands. They live in eucalyptus trees and spend most of their time wedged between forks in the tree's branches. Koalas eat in the trees, sleep in trees and hang out in trees. The only time they leave the trees is to walk to another tree with a better food supply.

Koalas do move around in their chosen tree. When they need to cool down, they find the shadiest spot of the tree to rest. When they are chilled, they move to a sunnier spot.

Koalas spend most of their time sleeping and eating by themselves. The only time they spend  with other koalas is during mating and while raising their young.

koala presentation english

What do koalas eat?

Koalas eat 3 hours per day, usually during the nighttime, and rest 16 to 18 hours a day, according to the Adelaide Zoo . They sleep so much because they need time and energy to digest their food. It takes a lot of energy to digest the fibrous leaves of the eucalyptus.

Koalas are herbivores who eat only eucalyptus. On average, a koala eats 1 to 1.5 lbs. (454 to 680 grams) of eucalyptus each day, according to the San Diego Zoo. Koalas may spend a lot of their waking time eating, but they are somewhat picky eaters. There are more than 700 eucalyptus species, but koalas will only eat fewer than 50 of those species, according to the Australia Zoo.

Baby koalas

A baby koala is called a joey. A koala carries her joey for a gestation period of 35 days. When it is born, the joey is only around 2 centimeters (.79 inches) long — about the size of a kidney bean, according to the Australian Zoo — and weighs about half a gram (0.017 ounces). Soon after birth, it climbs into its mother's pouch and latches onto one of its mother's teats. The teat swells to keep it firmly in the joey's mouth. The sphincter muscle at the opening of the pouch will keep the joey from falling out, since the joey will reside there as it develops for the next six months. When it gets too big for the pouch, the joey will climb on its mother's back and ride there as they both snack on leaves.

koala presentation english

At 12 months, the joey is completely weaned, according to the Adelaide Zoo. Males become sexually mature at 3 to 4 years of age, while females become sexually mature at a much younger age of 2 years. Koalas live 10 to 15 years.

Classification/taxonomy

Koalas are marsupials , which are mammals that have pouches. According to Integrated Taxonomic Information System (ITIS), the taxonomy of koalas is:

  • Kingdom : Animalia
  • Subkingdom : Bilateria
  • Infrakingdom : Deuterostomia
  • Phylum : Chordata
  • Subphylum : Vertebrata
  • Infraphylum : Gnathostomata
  • Superclass : Tetrapoda
  • Class : Mammalia
  • Subclass : Theria
  • Infraclass : Metatheria
  • Order : Diprotodontia
  • Suborder : Vombatiformes
  • Family : Phascolarctidae
  • Genus & species : Phascolarctos cinereus

Conservation status

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) lists koalas as "least concern" for extinction because of "its wide distribution, presumed large population and because it is unlikely to be declining at nearly the rate required to qualify for listing in a threatened category."

However, the Australian government declared koalas as "vulnerable" in 2012. The Australian Koala Foundation estimates there are 43,000 to 80,000 koalas left in the wild. The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service lists koalas as "threatened."

Koalas have few natural predators, according to the San Diego Zoo. Dingoes and large owls sometimes attack them. The biggest threats to koalas, however, come from habitat loss due to deforestation , injury or death from traffic and attacks by domestic dogs. More than 4,000 koalas are killed each year by cars and dogs, according to the Australian Koala Foundation.

Another threat to the koala population is the sexually transmitted disease chlamydia, which can lead to blindness, infertility and death. There is hope on this front, however, as microbiologists from the University of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland have recently announced that vaccine trial has shown success in keeping koalas chlamydia-free.

Related: Why the heck do so many koalas have chlamydia?

Other facts

The word "koala" derives from an ancient Aboriginal word meaning "no drink" because they rarely ever drink water; they get 90 percent of their hydration from gum leaves.

Like humans, koalas have fingerprints . They are the only other mammals besides primates to have them.

Though koalas generally don't make noise, the male has a loud call during breeding season that can be heard about a kilometer away. Koalas can make other sounds, from snores to screams.

Eucalyptus is poisonous to most animals. The koala's digestive system creates bacteria that deactivate the poison.

Koalas have a scent gland on their chest that they rub against trees to mark their territory. The gland is bald.

The average life span of a koala in the wild is between 10 and 14 years.

Koala: an extraordinary animal towards extinction

Why are koalas in danger?

Habitat clearance, disease, dog attacks, car hits, and climate change are threatening the survival of Australia’s most iconic animal.

Koalas will be extinct in the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW) by 2050 unless there is urgent action. The worst threat for Koalas is the habitat loss, disease and climatic events.About 5,000 koalas are thought to have died in devastating bushfires, the report to state parliament said. It urged lawmakers to ensure that remaining populations did not perish in rapidly diminishing habitats.

In late 2015, a University of Queensland report presented clear statistical evidence of dramatic declines in koala populations in southeast Queensland. That report showed that, between 1996 and 2014, koala densities declined by about 80 percent in the Koala Coast area and 54 percent in Pine Rivers.

climate change

The effects of climate change on koalas and the ravages of diseases such as chlamydia were main issues raised at a national conference about the beleaguered animal, and delegates heard that koalas are already functionally extinct in some areas of Australia.

More than 350 koalas are feared to have been killed by bushfires in Australia's New South Wales state.

The blazes which burned near the coastal township of Port Macquarie have destroyed more than 2,000 hectares (4,492 acres) of koala heartland

3) Although you may have heard people call them koala ‘bears’, these awesome animals aren’t bears at all – they are in fact  marsupials . A group of mammals, most marsupials have pouches where their newborns develop.

4) When an infant koala – called a joey – is born, it immediately climbs up to its mother’s pouch. Blind and earless, a joey uses its strong sense of touch and smell , as well as natural instinct, to find its way.

Koala Facts

5) A joey grows and develops in the pouch for about six months . Once strong enough, the youngster rides around on its mother’s back for a further six months, only using the pouch to feed.

6) Koala’s grow up to become big eaters, shifting up to one kilogram of eucalyptus leaves in a day! They are fussy, too, and will select the most nutritious and tastiest leaves from the trees where they live.

7)  These magnificent mammals get their name form an Aboriginal * term meaning, ‘ no drink’ . It’s believed this is because koalas get almost all their moisture from the leaves they eat, and rarely drink water.

8) But check this out – eucalyptus leaves are super tough and poisonous! Luckily for koalas, they have a long digestive organ called a cecum which allows them to break down the leaves unharmed.

Koala Facts

9)  Enjoy having a snooze? Well so do our furry friends! Koalas don’t have much energy and, when not feasting on leaves, they spend their time dozing in the branches. Believe it or not, they can sleep for up to 18 hours a day!

10) Although these beautiful creatures are protected by law, and not classed as an endangered species, their habitat is under threat. Sadly, around 80% of koala habitat has been lost to human homes, drought and bushfires .

Year 6 would love to travel to Australia and meet these koalas i their natural habitats. We could go and visit them in zoos over here in the UK- England (and some of us have already met them.) Most of us here have never seen a koala in real life form, but are very close with them. Thank you National Geographic Kids for sharing this information. We cant wait for more!!!

cool facts mates! supa groovy, i love kolas

Since Im from Australia, I occasionally see them. Its quite hard to see them as the eucaliptus trees are so tall in the forests! There arent that may in the country, as animals - theyre my fav!! If you go to Australia ( the Eastern Side), dont go thinking that your going to find one because you might not. Since the eucalyptus treres are so tall, the koalas prefer to be up high. This gives you less of a chance to see them, but remember NEVER GIVE UP! Bring biocluars if you want to look up high in the tree tops for them! Mb1

DID YOU KNOW THAT:

  • Koalas are not bears. They are MARSUPIALS, which means that they carry their young in a pouch.
  • Koalas have two thumbs on their front paws - to help them climb, to hold onto the tree and to grip their food.
  • Koalas are NOCTURNAL animals. This means that they sleep in the daytime, and move around and feed at night.
  • Koalas' fur is different in different parts of Australia. In the southern parts of Australia it is longer and shaggier than in the north, in order to keep them warm in the cold southern winters.
  • The male koala has a dark scent gland in the center of his chest. He rubs this on the tree in order to mark his territory.
  • Koalas also communicate with each other by making a noise like a snore and then a belch, known as a "bellow"
  • Koalas usually have only one cub per year. Older females will usually have one every two years.
  • Koala babies are known by several names - "pouch young", "back young", "joeys" and "cubs".
  • When koalas are born, they are only 2 centimetres long, which is about as big as a jellybean!
  • At birth, koala joeys have no fur and their eyes and ears are still closed.
  • The koala joey rides in it's mother's backward-facing pouch for about 5 or 6 months, and drinks milk from its mother's nipple. after that, it rides on its mother's back until it leaves home to take care of itself at about 1 year old.
  • Koalas are fully grown by their third or fourth year.
  • Koalas do not live in rainforests or desert areas. They live in tall eucalypt ( gumtree ) forests and low eucalypt woodlands.
  • There are about 600 varieties of eucalypts. Koalas Australia wide eat only about 120 of these. Koalas in a specific area would prefer to eat only about 4-6 different types.
  • An adult koala eats about ½ - 1 kilogram of leaves each night.
  • Koalas don't normally need to drink as they get all the moisture they need from the gumleaves. However, they can drink if necessary, such as in times of drought.
  • A forest can only have a certain number of koalas living in it, otherwise they get hungry and sick.
  • The biggest problem for koalas is that their bushland ( or "habitat" ) is being cut down to make way for houses and roads.
  • Eucalypts (gumtrees) are both food and homes for the koalas.
  • Koalas are protected by law, but their homes and food aren't.
  • When koalas become upset and worried ("stressed") by the loss of their homes, they may get a disease called " Chlamydia".
  • Dogs and cars kill many koalas each year.
  • It's believed that less than 100,000 koalas left in the wild of Australia. Most of their habitat has already been lost. This makes it very important to preserve what is left.

What People Are Saying About Us

I consider myself fortunate to have had Mr. Akhondzadeh as my teacher.

Mohammad Hossein Mahroughi photo

Mohammad Hossein Mahroughi

I had the pleasure of being taught by Mr. Akhondzadeh and I can confidently say he is the best in his profession .

Mohammad Nazari photo

Mohammad Nazari

The most important point in Moha's teaching method is his special attention to the writing skill, which is one of the main students' weaknesses.

As of Speaking skill, he uses conversation-based scenarios and assigns them to pairs or groups, which makes speaking more vibrant. In addition, the grammar of each section is analyzed fundamentally, which helps to get previous grammatical points reviewed. Last but not least, he always tries to keep the atmosphere of his classes as friendly as possible.

Amir Jafari photo

Amir Jafari

I'm consistently impressed by Mr. Akhondazadeh's ability to convey complex language concepts in a clear and understandable manner.

Mr. Akhondzadeh has a wide range of English knowledge to help individuals learn English or to take various exams. Also, being cool and friendly with English learners are the main parts of his characteristics.

My English proficiency has improved significantly with Moha. He is going to accompany you in your English learning journey by teaching basic and advanced grammar, vocabulary, English structures, and many other subjects as well as he can.

Mohammad Hossein Jafari photo

Mohammad Hossein Jafari

I have had two different courses with Mr. Akhondzadeh; Touchstone 1 and Speaking.

The way he taught was so satisfying that I really felt a significant improvement in my English language skills. I have taken English classes with a good number of instructors, but I have had a particular liking for his teaching methods, which were more beneficial.

Mohammad Ghasemi photo

Mohammad Ghasemi

Honestly, the semester with Mr. Akhondzadeh was a miracle for me because my English language progressed and became noticeable.

In particular, the end-of-semester presentation helped me a lot to speak with confidence. He is the best teacher I have ever seen. It is great that students' learning is a priority for him.

Mohanna Malakouti Nasab photo

I once a semester of English class with Mr. Akhondzadeh.

What was always followed in his classes was the importance of time management and paying attention to each individual student.

Arash Salavati photo

Arash Salavati

Moha is one of those teachers you would love to listen to for hours without feeling exhausted.

He is a knowledgeable instructor with a smile on his face and he is always punctual. I never saw him in a bad mood. He always has a presentation prepared to teach with and helps language learners find their mistakes and correct them.

Mohammad Shamlou photo

Mohammad Shamlou

Mr. Akhondzadeh's teaching methods made my wife improve in English language and utilize it to meet her needs.

If I were to mention just a few of Moha's main teaching and personality characteristics, I would enlist his special attention to students and more importantly showing effective reaction while listening to students. His classes are accompanied with entertaining games and activities, all of which made me and my wife fully absorb whatever taught.

Listening to learners and following their favorite topics increase their self-confidence, and you did so with pose. Thanks to your teaching skills and knowledge, I do hope that I could improve my language skills even more than now and create a new and better world for me and my wife.

Moein Vatankhah photo

Mr. Akhondzadeh was one of the best teachers that I have had.

His lessons were like a journey of joyfulness and kindness. I highly recommend him.

Sajjad Shadkani photo

Sajjad Shadkani

Mr. Akhondzadeh is one of the best English teachers that I have ever had.

His classes are always filled with enthusiasm, and he uses lots of different materials to teach us. I can always remember what he thought me because of the attractive way of his teaching. He really loves English and that is the reason of his great semesters.

Ali Alipoor photo

Ali Alipoor

I am a Bachelor student majoring in English Translation. I had a semester with Mr. Akhondzadeh.

He taught with precision and passion. He was delicate when it came to discussing points related to lesson. He is extremely patient, and has a special ability to establish rapport with a wide range of age group while teaching.

Shadi Akbari photo

Shadi Akbari

As an English instructor, Mr. Akhondzadeh possesses both professionalism and friendliness.

Such a great time I had in his classes! Every lesson was taught in an entertaining and informative way. I learned a great deal of English language and I will always be thankful to the Great Moha.

Mostafa Taghdisi photo

When I had class with Mr. Akhondzadeh, he always corrected my mistakes.

He has been one of my best teachers. To be honest, he was way better than I thought. I always appreciate him, and I take pride in having been one of his many successful students. I thank him for everything.

Alireza Ramezani photo

Alireza Ramezani

There are various great things about Moha's teaching which helped me learn English faster and more easily.

They include being friendly with students, being confident and on time all of which carry significant importance to me. I thank him for the great time and experience that he provided me with.

Mostafa Ahmadzadeh photo

Mostafa Ahmadzadeh

Although I had a class with Mr. Akhondzadeh for a short time, I got to know him as a calm and cool person.

These qualities of his inject peace to the class and you will unconsciously listen to his words with much attention. He is able to open the subject and explain well, and you always understand what he is saying.

Summer Game Fest 2024: Everything Announced

Putting a spotlight on the biggest summer game fest reveals..

Michael Cripe Avatar

The 2024 Summer Game Fest showcase has come to a close after bringing out a steaming plate of game reveals, trailers, and surprises. It was a presentation jam-packed with nearly every kind of video game from across the industry.

Summer Game Fest 2024 Games

LEGO Horizon Adventures

The show put the spotlight on games of every shape and size throughout its two-hour runtime, with some highlights bringing first looks at new titles like Lego Horizon Adventures, Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, and everything Blumhouse Games is cooking up. We’ve gathered everything you need to know here.

Lego Horizon Adventures is coming to PlayStation 5

The long-rumored Lego Horizon Adventures game kicked off Summer Game Fest, revealing brick versions of Aloy and the robot dinosaurs fans have come to know over recent years. First footage of the project revealed a Lego adventure that’s a bit more family-friendly than Guerrilla Games’ mainline series, including what seems to be the option to play co-op with a friend. The footage also teases customization options to enjoy when Lego Horizon Adventures comes to PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, Nintendo Switch, and PS5 this holiday season.

Quidditch Champions launches this year

Harry Potter fans looking for something to tide them over after the release of Hogwarts Legacy last year can finally look forward to Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions when it launches for PC via the Epic Games Store and Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox on September 3, 2024.

No More Room in Hell Early Access arrives this Halloween

No More Room in Hell 2 is bringing its first-person shooter zombie gameplay to Early Access this Halloween. Gameplay for the gory action title revealed brutal combat and gruesome enemies that will stop at nothing to take you down. The trailer, which also highlighted dismemberment mechanics and a handful of weapons, also teased eight-player co-op in a world with plenty of replayability.

Star Wars Outlaws teaser trailer reveals more gameplay

Ubisoft’s first crack at an open-world Star Wars game, Star Wars Outlaws, warped into Summer Game Fest 2024 to show players a new swash-buckling gameplay trailer. Quick cuts of the scoundrel-centered sci-fi game showed off locations both old and new as protagonist Kay Vess made her way through and around the Empire. We’ll learn more at the upcoming Ubisoft Forward, but until then, Star Wars Outlaws is expected to launch on August 30.

Sid Meier's Civilization VII is coming to consoles in 2025

Developer Firaxis Games and 2K announced that its long-awaited strategy game, Sid Meier’s Cvilization 7 is coming to PC and consoles in 2025. The project’s reveal trailer understandably didn’t show off any gameplay yet, but it did give fans an atmospheric trailer to keep them waiting for a few months. Come August, Firaxis will host a gameplay showcase, meaning players don’t have much longer to wait before learning more.

Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero release date set for October

The Dragon Ball franchise will continue to deliver frenetic Super Sayain gameplay when Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero launches for PC via Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X | S on October 11, 2024. Our latest look at the anime spinoff game revealed destructive gameplay for iconic characters like Goku, Frieza, Buu, Vegeta, and more. The footage also promised six early character unlocks for those who pre-order their copy, including another mystery fighter to play as, too.

Batman: Arkham Shadow trailer introduces players to VR Gotham City

The Meta Quest 3-exclusive Batman: Arkham Shadow finally stepped out of the darkness to give DC fans a better look at its younger Batman and the new threats he faces. The new footage of the VR spinoff game arrived during Summer Game Fest, revealing a cinematic look at a Bruce Wayne that might seem a bit familiar to Arkham fans. Its trailer, which sets up the Rat King as its main villain, also packs in a few Easter Eggs for those looking for nods to the rest of Gotham’s criminals.

For more, be sure to check out our interview with developer Camouflaj .

Street Fighter 6 Is Getting a Fatal Fury Crossover

More Street Fighter 6 content is on the way, as Capcom is promising to deliver four new characters with Season 2 . The upcoming season promises to be one of the classic fighting game’s busiest yet, as the new roster includes a crossover with Fatal Fury that will see fighters Terry and Mai joining the battle. Also on the way are classic Street Fighter characters M. Bison, who seems to be sporting a new look, and Elena. The content will rollout throughout the remainder of the year.

CRISOL THEATER OF IDOLS. IMAGE COURTESY OF BLUMHOUSE.

Blumhouse Games unveils Crisol Theater of Idols, Fear the Spotlight, and More

Blumhouse, a studio that has made a name for itself over the last decade with horror movies like M3GAN and Five Nights at Freddy’s, is entering the games business . Instead of launching the new endeavor with just one video game project, the studio announced a variety of horror games from teams like Eyes Out, Half Mermaid, Cozy Game Pals, Perfect Garbage, PlayMe Studio, and Vermila. Blumhouse explained that its goal is to offer games for more than one kind of player. It kicks off with Fear the Spotlight, but other titles, like Grave Seasons, Sleep Awake, Crisol Theater of Idols, are on the way, too.

Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind reveals new old-school-style beat-em-up

Beat-em-up gaming fans time traveled back to the ‘90s when Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind was revealed at Summer Game Fest 2024. This old-school-style video game sees players team up to fight off Putties and other iconic villains while playing as the original Rangers themselves. So far, the game’s strength seems to be the variety of activities it offers, as players can be seen switching between beat-em-up, FPS, and racing gameplay.

MECHA Break sets beta test date for this August
